After spending years away from the platform, Activision finally announced that it would bring all future published titles to Steam. This began with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II late last year and since then we have seen a number of missing Activision titles added to the platform. Though not the full library of missing games, a number of older Call of Duty titles have finally been brought over to Steam.

Available to purchase on Steam right now, Activision has brought over its 3 most recent Call of Duty entries, namely 2019’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare; 2020’s COD Black Ops Cold War and then 2021’s Call of Duty Vanguard. All three titles are currently on sale for 50% off, meaning you can get your hands on each of these games for £24.99 a pop.

With the addition of these three entries, there only remains a few COD titles which have yet to be added – those being Call of Duty Black Ops 4 and Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered.

While each Call of Duty game does stand on its own merits, it is typical for the COD fanbase to move from game to game each time a new entry is released, and so the inclusion of these prior titles is somewhat less significant than it may initially appear.

Still, it is welcome nonetheless to see that slowly but surely all of Activision’s previously-exclusive titles are being unshackled from the Battle.net store.

One of the biggest innovations with the PlayStation 5 is the creation of the DualSense controller, which added a whole new layer of haptic feedback as well as adaptive triggers – increasing immersion in a number of games. PS5 players are not the only ones who can benefit however, as Adaptive trigger support has now been brought to Black Ops Cold War on PC.

One of the biggest games to take advantage of the PS5’s new DualSense controller at launch was Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. With full haptic and adaptive trigger support, every weapon felt more unique than ever before. Though these features were previously exclusive to PlayStation, PC users with a DualSense controller can now experience these enhanced features.

With the recent release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 4 Reloaded, it seems that Treyarch stealthily added enhanced support for the DualSense controller, as players are now reporting that the adaptive triggers now function on PC as they do on PS5.

Currently, it is unknown whether the game also supports the enhanced haptic feedback as well, or if support is limited to just the triggers. It is certainly possible to do both, as was seen with Metro Exodus, which added full DualSense support for PC in an update.

While the controller was developed for the PS5, it is encouraging to see PC players able to use the enhanced features of the system’s controller, changing the feel of a game purely through the purchase of a new peripheral.

It looks like Treyarch is cooking up a new mode for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The new mode is known as Outbreak and its existence leaked via the Call of Duty app and website.

Ad spots in-game and on the Call of Duty website went live for roughly 30 minutes last night, teasing a “new large-scale zombies experience”. There is also a button to watch the trailer, but that trailer has not been made public yet, as this early reveal was unintentional.

These ad spots have since been taken down, but of course, the leak has already done the rounds, becoming common knowledge amongst those who follow gaming news.

Activision has not commented on the leak yet, so perhaps Treyarch is saving its Outbreak mode for a bit later in the year, perhaps lining up with the next major seasonal update.

KitGuru Says: A large-scale Zombie mode sounds like it would be quite fun. We'll have to wait for Treyarch to properly announce the mode before seeing it in action though. Are many of you still playing Black Ops Cold War? Will you be looking forward to this new mode?

Many online multiplayer titles offer sporadical free weekends, allowing those who have yet to purchase a game to experience what they may be missing out on. Call of Duty is no stranger to offering free weekends. Interestingly however, this time it is the Zombies mode that will be made free – and not just for a weekend, but a whole week.

Announced on its blog, the “Black Ops Cold War Zombies Free Access Week” will allow everyone across PlayStation, Xbox and PC the opportunity to play the Zombies mode from the recently released Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Taking place between the 14th and 21st of January, players will be able to try the traditional zombies experience on the Die Maschine map, the ‘Cranked’ mode – which requires you to kill zombies to reset a timer – while PlayStation users will also be able to play the timed-exclusive Onslaught mode, which places zombies on the regular multiplayer maps.

While PlayStation and PC users will be able to freely access the week long trial, Xbox users will be required to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription in order to access the trial.

To those who do partake in the ‘Black Ops Cold War Zombies Free Access Week’, all progress towards character and weapon levelling will transfer over should you end up purchasing the full game following the conclusion of the free period. While weekend trials can sometimes feel too short, especially if the game’s download files are large, offering a week long trial will give everyone plenty of time to slay some Nazi zombies.

We've known for a while now that Call of Duty: Warzone will persist between annual Call of Duty games, but details on exactly how that will work have been slim. We are finally starting to get some answers this week though.

Warzone will remain its own separate game, incorporating elements from new Call of Duty titles each year. With that in mind, there will be some lag time between the release of Black Ops Cold War and its inclusion in Warzone. Black Ops Cold War releases on the 13th of November. Elements from the game will make their way over to Warzone in December, likely with a whole new map.

Warzone also will not be switching over to the new Black Ops Cold War engine and will remain on IW 8.0. This makes sense as an engine switch would require a total rebuild of Warzone and it would need to be rebuilt each year as new mainline Call of Duty games release.

Instead of engine changes, the focus will be on new content. So when Black Ops Cold War launches, we can expect a new map, new weapons and other new features to coincide with the annual Call of Duty shift.

KitGuru Says: It will be interesting to see just how much Warzone changes when Black Ops Cold War releases and if we'll be able to switch between maps. Are many of you planning on picking up Black Ops Cold War? Will you continue to play Warzone either way?

Nvidia is teaming up with Activision to include a copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War with RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 graphics cards for a limited time. As one of the biggest RTX-supported games of the year, Black Ops Cold War should be a great showcase for ray-traced lighting and the performance benefits of DLSS.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is releasing on the 13th of November, taking the reigns from last year's Modern Warfare. If you buy an RTX 3080 or RTX 3090 graphics card, or a pre-built PC featuring one from a participating retailer before the 10th of December, you will get a copy of the game for free.

It isn't just ray-tracing and DLSS that Nvidia GPU users can take advantage of. Black Ops Cold War supports a pretty big list of Nvidia technologies, including:

  • RTX-accelerated ray-traced ambient occlusion, local shadows, and sun shadows effects
  • NVIDIA DLSS to boost frame rates
  • NVIDIA Reflex to reduce system latency.
  • NVIDIA Ansel for hi-res screenshots.
  • NVIDIA Highlights in Multiplayer to automatically record and save your best gaming moments.

This new bundle replaces the previous one, which saw RTX 30 series buyers given a copy of Watch Dogs Legion.

KitGuru Says: Are many of you planning on picking up an RTX 3080 or RTX 3090 before the end of the year?

The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer beta is set to kick off soon, first for PS4 this week and then for other platforms next week. Ahead of the PC beta on October 15th, Activision has announced the game's PC hardware requirements.

The beta period kicks off on the 8th of October for PS4 for pre-order customers, followed by an open beta on PS4 from October 10th to 12th. Then on October 15th, pre-order customers on Xbox One and PC can start beta testing. Finally, the open beta will be available across all platforms from October 17th to the 19th.

Here are the PC system requirements for the beta-

Minimum:

  • OS: Windows 7 64-Bit (SP1) or Windows 10 64-Bit (1803 or later)
  • CPU: Intel Core i5 2500k or AMD equivalent.
  • Video: Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 2GB / GTX 1650 4GB or AMD Radeon HD 7950.
  • RAM: 8GB RAM
  • HDD: 45GB HD space
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Audio: DirectX compatible, requires DirectX 12 compatible system

  • OS: Windows 10 64 Bit (latest Service Pack)

  • RAM: 16GB RAM
  • HDD: 45GB HD space
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Audio: DirectX compatible, requires DirectX 12 compatible system

The beta includes a mix of maps and multiplayer modes, an early look at the multiplayer progression system, score streaks, class creation and unlockable weapons/equipment for your loadout.

The Black Ops Cold War beta will just take up 45GB on your HDD/SSD, but if last year's Modern Warfare is any indication, we can expect the game to get much, much bigger.

KitGuru Says: Are many of you planning on jumping into the Black Ops Cold War beta?

As expected from previous leaks and rumours, this year's Call of Duty will indeed be Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. This has previously been confirmed by insiders, reputable sources and even a Doritos marketing campaign, with today merely marking the first time that Activision has officially revealed the title itself.

Activision has been oddly quiet on this year's Call of Duty. Typically, each yearly release is announced in May or June. This time around though, Activision chose to let rumours and leakers run wild while it led fans through a series of in-game teasers in Call of Duty Warzone.

After solving a series of puzzles, which involved plenty of Cold War clues, Call of Duty Warzone players have unlocked the teaser for Black Ops Cold War. This game was previously being co-developed by Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software, but internal struggles pushed Activision to remove Sledgehammer from the project and put Treyarch in place as the lead studio. As a result, this year's Call of Duty is now a Black Ops game.

The new teaser just shows the title logo, so Activision's marketing machine still has plenty more work to do. Rumour has it that Black Ops Cold War is planned to release in October, which if true, means announcements and gameplay footage will need to be shown very soon.

KitGuru Says: The plan for this year's Call of Duty seems to be a mess, but perhaps things will finally get on track now that the first official teaser is out. Are any of you looking forward to this year's Call of Duty? Or would you be happy to see Modern Warfare continue for another year?
