Bluepoint Games helped kick off the launch of the PlayStation 5 with their excellent remake of the 2009 FromSoftware classic Demons Souls. Since then, the team have been relatively silent – until now, with us getting our first tease towards their next title.

As part of the Seasonal celebrations, Sony – via the PlayStation Blog – released a whole host of Christmas cards from studios across the globe, both internal to PlayStation and 3rd party publishers.

The list of participating studios and publishers is impressive, and includes the likes of Activision; Bandai Namco; Square Enix; Sucker Punch Productions; Konami; Media Molecule; SEGA; Guerilla Games; Naughty Dog and so many more.

While most of the cards are cute but innocuous, the holiday card released by Bluepoint Games teases that the announcement for their next project may occur sooner rather than later. The card shows four different presents next to a Christmas tree with three open and one yet to be.

The three open presents had within them a shield (Demons Souls), the Ancient Sword (Shadow of the Colossus) and the Leviathan Axe (God of War: Ragnarök).

While Bluepoint Games did not develop God of War Ragnarök, they did assist with its creation, and so all three opened presents represent the team’s three most recent titles, with the fourth present temptingly waiting to be opened; hopefully in 2023.

Following the recent announcement that Bluepoint Games had been acquired by Sony, many fans were left wondering what this means for the studio. Having worked almost exclusively on remasters and remakes since their founding, fans might have expected their next project to likewise be a remake. This however will not be the case.

Speaking to IGN, the President of Bluepoint Games, Marco Thrush revealed that the next game by the studio – following on from Demon’s Souls – will in fact be an original game, seemingly not based on any previous release.

Thrush said “Our next project, we're working on original content right now. We can't talk about what that is, but that's the next step in the evolution for us,” claiming this to be the natural next step for the studio.

While many of the remakes produced by Bluepoint Games are as impressive as any original game, both in terms of quality and development skill, it is understandable that the team now wishes to work on their own original title.

This does, however, mean that hopes for a Metal Gear Solid Remake by the studio have now been dashed. While Bluepoint Games have more than earned the right to have a go at making their own IP, the studio is simply too good at remaking other games for them to not continue doing so. Hopefully the studio will be able to do both (thanks in part to the deep pockets of PlayStation).

Recently, Sony announced two more PlayStation Studios acquisitions, nabbing Housemarque and Nixxes. It is widely believed that a third acquisition is also set to be announced, likely to be announced during an upcoming State of Play stream.

While Bluepoint Games recently updated its Twitter bio to point out that it is an independent studio, a tweet from Sony Japan with an image welcoming the studio to PlayStation's first-party line-up suggests that a deal is in the works.

According to Nick Baker, Bluepoint Games joining PlayStation Studios was supposed to be one of the big surprises for an upcoming State of Play stream. While Sony has not announced its next State of Play yet, insiders claim that there will be one in July.

Bluepoint Games has long been rumoured to be joining PlayStation Studios. The studio has already released a PS5 exclusive with the Demon’s Souls and previously worked on other remakes, including 2018’s Shadow of the Colossus.

KitGuru Says: Bluepoint Games joining PlayStation seems like an inevitability at this point. Hopefully Sony's next State of Play stream isn't too far off.

Following the announcement that Sony would be acquiring Housemarque, the Finnish studio behind Returnal, rumours of another acquisition quickly followed. Due to an incorrect posting by one of the official PlayStation accounts, it would seem as though the console manufacturer may have also acquired Bluepoint Games. In the wake of these rumours, the studio has released an official statement.

Following the rumours that Bluepoint Games is set to be acquired by Sony, the studio, known for creating the well-received Demon’s Souls remake, as well as the remake for Shadow of the Colossus, updated their official Twitter bio, which now reads “Bluepoint Game is a fully independent self-funded studio. We are always looking for talented engineers, artists, and designers to join the team!”

This new addendum to their biography appears to be a clear statement against the recent acquisition rumours. Of course, even prior to these rumours, fans had expressed their desires to see Bluepoint bought by Sony.

The current trajectory of Bluepoint Games closely follows that of other recent acquisitions: the team works closely with PlayStation to make a number of exclusive titles; these titles prove to be successful, Sony buys the studio.

Such was the case with Insomniac Games, waiting until the success of Spider-Man to purchase them. Housemarque most recently saw a similar treatment following Returnal. With the success of Demon’s Souls, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the studio bought by Sony – even if their current stance seems to suggest otherwise.

Bluepoint Games has long been rumoured to be joining PlayStation Studios. The studio has already released a PS5 exclusive with the Demon's Souls and previously worked on other remakes, including 2018's Shadow of the Colossus. It is currently rumoured that Bluepoint Games is now working on a Metal Gear Solid remake for PlayStation, although the studio has yet to announce its next project.

Sony has not commented on the Twitter error, so perhaps the deal isn't fully finalised yet, or the company is just saving the announcement for another time.

KitGuru Says: If Sony already has assets prepared, then it seems incredibly likely that a deal has been made between PlayStation and Bluepoint. Hopefully any acquisition announcement also comes with a tease for the studio's next game.

Following on from the release of the Shadow of the Colossus remake in 2018, many fans speculated as to what franchise Bluepoint Games would remake next. The two frontrunners were Demon’s Souls and Metal Gear Solid. We now know that Bluepoint Games was working on the former. That being said, a new rumour has surfaced claiming that the team have also been working on a Metal Gear Solid Remake for the PlayStation 5.

In a video by YouTuber ‘Moore’s Law is Dead’, the tech analyst revealed that Bluepoint Games is allegedly working on a remake of the first entry in the Metal Gear Solid series.

According to ‘Moore’s Law is Dead’, who previously reported on God of War Ragnarok and its release year prior to the official announcement, the remake has allegedly been in development for three years, with Mark Cerny involved to some capacity – meaning that it was being developed concurrently with Demon’s Souls. Furthermore, it is said to feature similar controls to that of the most recent mainline entry, Metal Gear Solid V, which was lauded for its gameplay.

While this should all be taken with a pinch of salt, an interesting easter egg was discovered within the Demon’s Souls remake, where a soundbite plays in The Nexus, which many fans claim sounds like Metal Gear Rex from MGS. Prior to the announcement of the Demon’s Souls Remake, Bluepoint Games also teased the possibility of a Metal Gear Solid remake in a cryptic tweet.

Of course, this may all simply be confirmation bias on the part of the fans. That being said, where there’s smoke there’s fire, and so hopefully this rumour does indeed end up being true. Time will tell.

One of Sony’s biggest PlayStation 5 launch exclusives is undoubtedly Demon’s Souls. The remake of the PS3 classic has been received with a great deal of excitement due partly to the studio behind the remake, Bluepoint Games, which has made a name for itself through remastering and faithfully remaking many much-loved classic titles. Though the studio has always had a close relationship with Sony, it might be getting even closer as the console manufacturer is rumoured to be acquiring them.

This rumour comes via ResetEra user ‘MarsipanRumpan’ who claims that the concept of Sony acquiring Bluepoint games has been permeating for a while, with Demon’s Souls serving as a “final test”. With embargoes lifted and Demon’s Souls being received incredibly well, Sony has reportedly “started acquisition-based talks with the studio.”

According to MarsipanRumpan, “they [Bluepoint] want to make sure they get a shot at an original IP, they don't want to be simply a ‘remake studio’ (Even if they make more remakes)”. From Sony’s angle, the company has reportedly been impressed with the studio’s work on both Demon’s Souls and the Shadow of The Colossus remake. Furthermore, their collaborative nature with other Sony studios has seemingly made them a good fit for the company.

This deal will allegedly be announced “shortly,” though this may be as late as the 28th of February. There is no denying that Bluepoint Games has been associated with PlayStation for quite some time, and just as with Insomniac Games before them, the acquisition would make complete sense. We’ll have to wait to see whether this does in fact go through.

While the Soulsborne series is known and beloved for many things, you’d be hard pressed to find a fan that would defend FromSoftware’s character creators. Being far from the focus of the games, previous titles have offered much less robust character creators when compared to its competitors. With the remake of Demon’s Souls set to launch soon however, Bluepoint Games have detailed exactly how it has improved this aspect to the game.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Gavin Moore, the Creative Director for Demon’s Souls offered fans a first look at the new and improved character creator, saying “to create your character as you see fit is to build an emotional connection to the world of Demon’s Souls. You don’t play as a muscle-bound barbarian or a mighty god but an average person, vulnerable and familiar. Together you will face the same fears and overcome the same challenges. Watching your beloved character die is painful, but this spurs you to take revenge, reentering the battle. Each victory is ever sweeter because your creation lives on.”

Providing details on the creation tools itself, Moore revealed that “you will be able to customize your appearance with up to 16 million permutations. We’ve added many more customization options than you’ll remember from the PS3 game, and also worked hard to ensure there is a satisfying variety possible for those who wish to tinker with every slider. Play as yourself, or who you want to be.”

As can be seen with the example images, the character creator appears to be significantly more robust, allowing for creations which appear much more ‘realistic’ when compared to the PS3 game – to put it nicely. Though not a game-changing feature, a well made character creator is always appreciated, no matter the game, and so it's encouraging to see Bluepoint Games putting clear effort into this aspect of the remake.

KitGuru says: What do you think of character creators? How much time do you spend making a character? What do you think of the examples shown off? Let us know down below.

While the SoulsBorne series is known for a number of things, one of the game’s most notorious features is its difficulty. This fact is doubly the case due to none of the games featuring any tweakable difficulty options. With Bluepoint Games’ upcoming remake of the first entry in the series, some fans wondered whether the team would take the opportunity to add difficulty settings – the answer to which was a resounding ‘no’.

In a recent interview with Game Informer, the Creative Director for the Demon’s Souls remake, Gavin Moore, was asked whether the team had included any difficulty options, to which they responded with “There are no difficulty options in Demon's Souls, and there shouldn't be.”

As mentioned, no other SoulsBorne game has offered any difficulty options, and so it’s not surprising to see this also being the case with Demon’s Souls. That being said, the original team (FromSoftware) have received criticism in the past for this decision, due to the lack of accessibility options.

The SoulsBorne series of games are undoubtedly hard. That being said, there are a number of ways to make the experience easier. One such method is purely through grinding enemies for ‘souls’, allowing plays to upgrade their character. Another way is through the game’s co-op functionality, which allows a friend – or stranger – to join you in your fight.

Of course, adding difficulty modes, or even simple accessibility options would not take away from the game in any way – in fact, it would be objectively additive. Still, regardless of which route was taken, there would have undoubtedly been a select group of fans left unsatisfied by the decision. It’ll be interesting to see whether Bluepoint Games ultimately made the right one.

At Sony’s most recent PlayStation 5 showcase, the console manufacturer showed off a gameplay demo of the much-anticipated Demon’s Souls remake. Video game tech analysts Digital Foundry have now examined the gameplay, confirming that the segment highlighted was running at 1440p 60fps – though there is much more to it.

Developed by Bluepoint games, known for the Shadow of the Colossus remake, Demon’s Souls impressed many when it was shown off at Sony’s recent PS5 showcase. According to Digital Foundry, the gameplay demonstration was running at 1440p 60fps, though they did stress that the use of motion blur and anti-aliasing by Bluepoint did help in obfuscating this relatively low resolution.

Furthermore, Bluepoint has confirmed that the game will offer at least two modes, one of which is a performance mode. While not explicitly stated, it is highly likely that this gameplay section was utilising this mode. This is further evidenced by the fact that the initial reveal trailer – which was also running on a PlayStation 5 – rendered at a native 4K, but 30fps. Shadow of the Colossus on PlayStation 4 Pro also offered two modes: 1440p30 and 1080p60. With that in mind, the improvement purely based on resolution alone is already substantial.

While Bluepoint promised that the game would feature some degree of ray tracing, Digital Foundry was unable to find any evidence of this – again, perhaps due to it potentially running on performance mode. Lastly, the analysts praised the game’s load times, which while near instant on the PlayStation 5 demo, took roughly 10 seconds on the original PlayStation 3 game at the same location.

Of course, all of this may change by the time Demon’s Souls launches on the PlayStation 5 in November. Still, despite retailing for £70 in the UK, early impressions appear to suggest that Bluepoint is doing everything it can to earn that price point. The full analysis video by Digital Foundry can be found HERE.

When the Demon’s Souls remake was first revealed at Sony’s PlayStation 5 event back in June, the announcement came with no release date, suggesting that the title is still quite a ways off from launching. That being said, the much-anticipated remake of the 2009 cult hit has now been rated in multiple countries, indicating that the game might be releasing sooner than expected.

Discovered by Gematsu, Demon’s Souls for PlayStation 5 has already been rated in both Korea and Japan. While not always the case, a game being rated quite often means that it is relatively close to release – due to the game needing to be nearly complete in order to be played and rated.

While the trailer released for Demon’s Souls back in June arrived with no release date, leading many to assume that it would be a 2021 game, the ambiguity, especially when compared to other 2021 titles, meant that it is, in theory, just as likely to release this year – perhaps even as a launch title.

Adding further fuel to the fire is the fact that Spider-Man: Miles Morales was also recently rated in Korea. Miles Morales is a launch title, and so the two being rated so close together may mean that Demon’s Souls is likewise releasing – if not at launch – then during the launch period. Insider Imran Khan mirrored these sentiments, following the news of its rating in Korea, saying “As far as I know, they had always been targeting launch/launch window.”

Of course, this must all be taken with a pinch of salt until PlayStation itself confirms it. That being said, hopefully this does in fact mean that Demon’s Souls is arriving sooner rather than later. Time will tell.

From Software didn't just become a fan favourite developer over the last decade, the studio successfully managed to create its own genre, changing ‘action-RPGs' as we know them. This journey started off with Demon's Souls in 2009, utilising the PS3's now outdated hardware. Now in preparation for the PlayStation 5, the game is being completely remade, and we've got some excellent screenshots to showcase it.

The remake of Demon's Souls was announced during the PS5 reveal stream earlier this week. Bluepoint Games, who also did the incredible Shadow of the Colossus remake, is revamping From Software's first ‘Souls' release.

Above you will find not just the reveal trailer for the remake, but also a gallery of screenshots, so you can get a closer look at the graphics. Everything from textures to lighting has been enhanced, bringing Demon's Souls to the forefront of graphics technology.

The game will ship with two modes, one focused on maximising graphical fidelity and another that prioritises frame rates. Currently, we don't have a release date for Demon's Souls but hopefully we'll get more information on that later this year.

KitGuru Says: The PS5 is already drawing in interest thanks to a number of excellent exclusive game announcements. There is also a rumour that Bloodborne will get an enhanced PS5 release, so there could be more good news to come.

Right behind Microsoft’s March Games with Gold announcement, Sony has announced which games PlayStation Plus users are set to receive for free in the month of March. Subscribers will be receiving two games this month: Sonic Forces, the latest mainline title in the franchise to use the ‘Boost Formula‘, and Shadow of the Colossus, a complete remake of the PlayStation 2 classic. Both titles will be available to purchase for free from Tuesday the 3rd of March until Monday the 6th of April.

Sonic Forces was first announced during Sonic’s 25th anniversary event. Utilising a new version of Generations’ engine – the Hedgehog Engine 2 – Sonic Forces is split into 3 distinct styles. First, there's the Boost Formula gameplay. Popularised by Sonic Unleashed and Generations, this style puts you behind Sonic as he constantly moves and pushes forward, boosting all the while. The second style is Classic Sonic, which sees the movement and camera shift to a 2.5D perspective, evoking similarities to Sonic’s original gameplay styles. Lastly, players will create their own original hero and play them in sections which focus on the use of gadgets. Though Sonic Forces saw mixed reviews from both critics and fans, levels are relatively short and gameplay can be satisfying, meaning that the game is definitely at least worth giving a go – especially for the price of ‘free’.

Shadow of the Colossus is a complete from-the-ground-up remake of the classic PlayStation 2 title, in a similar vein to Crash Bandicoot N’ Sane Trilogy or Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Developed by Bluepoint Games, known to be one of the leading remastering studios in the industry, this first-party PlayStation exclusive saw universal acclaim both when it originally released in 2005, and 13 years later when it came to PlayStation 4. Shadow of the Colossus is described as “a breathtaking journey through ancient lands” and can be experienced for free on the 3rd of March.

There’s still time to add February’s free games to your library, which are The Sims 4, The Bioshock Collection, and Firewall: Zero hour. More information on those titles can be found HERE.
