Last year, in July 2023, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE was first released exclusively for China, but since then, AMD has decided to introduce this SKU to the global DIY market. The card has been widely reviewed by outlets (including us), where many noticed the limitations when trying to overclock the GPU.

The Radeon RX 7900 GRE sits between the Radeon RX 7900 XT and the RX 7800 XT, featuring 33% more cores than the Navi-32-based 7800XT variant. However, due to power constraints, it does not perform much better than the 7800 XT, especially for reference design models or GPUs running at reference speeds.

As explained by TechPowerUP, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE cards have artificial clock limits despite the comparatively high power restrictions. The highest programmable GPU clock speed is 2803MHz, and the memory can only reach 2316MHz. However, removing the arbitrary frequency restriction should result in better performance.

AMD (via Hardware Unboxed) has acknowledged this issue and has promised to fix it. However, we don't have an exact timeline for this fix just yet.

KitGuru says: Once AMD fixes these issues, the AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE should become a slightly better buy, especially if you like fine-tuning your graphics card to its optimal performance.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been out for a couple of weeks, with millions of players finally jumping in to Rocksteady's vision for a live-service DC game. The jury is still out on the ‘live service' element of the game, as Rocksteady has yet to fully unveil its plans for the game's first season of content. In the meantime though, we are finally starting to see patches roll out.

The first major patch for Suicide Squad is now rolling out. The bad news is that much like Diablo IV, this first patch mostly consists of nerfs, which is a quick way to turn players off after spending time diving into gear and character builds.

The main balance changes with today's patch include:

  • Heat Wave’s Molten Skin & The Turtle’s Shell have had their damage reduction reduced from 100% to 90%.
  • Due to some players exploiting certain mission mechanics, vehicle kills during Gizmo’s Support Squad missions no longer grant XP. You are still awarded XP for mission completion.
  • With the fix to Burning damage, players will be less likely to get to the same Mastery Level as before. As a result, we will be creating new Leaderboards in the interest of fairness. Fear not though, as we will be archiving the existing Leaderboards, so those currently atop the rankings will live on in infamy!
  • With the fix coming to Burning damage scaling and hearing the concerns around hitting a wall when climbing Mastery levels, we have reduced enemy health scaling for Mastery levels 46 and above.
  • To keep things challenging, enemies at Mastery level 46 and above will now deal more damage.

The patch also fixes a big with burning damage, which was scaling too high at launch, leading to unfairness in those chasing the top ranks in the leaderboards. Another issue with Augment stacking on gear has been fixed, as has a bug that prevented gear modifications from saving.

Right now, Suicide Squad's player numbers have fallen quite a bit on Steam, with the current 24-hour peak sitting at just 2,500 concurrent players. However, it is worth noting that many will have already finished the campaign and moved on. We may see a new player spike once the new seasonal content begins rolling out, but I wouldn't expect much of a boost, unless Rocksteady really manages to blow players away, as the game has fallen in sales charts too. On Steam, it has already fallen out of the top 100, though it may be faring better on other platforms, like PlayStation.

Rocksteady's latest game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is finally coming out, over eight years on from the release of their last game, Batman: Arkham Knight. While there is some scepticism around this release due to its co-op focused, live service nature, Rocksteady still has plenty of fans looking to jump in. Unfortunately, as soon as the servers went live earlier today, players began encountering a game-breaking bug.

Roughly one hour from the start of pre-order early access for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Rocksteady has had to pull the servers offline. Players were finding that upon logging in for the first time, the game would automatically skip the story and mark it as completed, throwing players right into the endgame.

It is a pretty poor start for a game that many were already sceptical of due to its online nature. Still, the bug should be swiftly fixed with online access to be restored. We're still awaiting an update from Rocksteady but fixing this ahead of midnight is going to be a big priority.

The game officially goes live for all pre-order customers on the 30th of January. On certain platforms, the game is already live as long as you know how to use a VPN.

Windows 11 KB5030310 has received a lot of attention for providing a lot of new capabilities brought by ‘Moment 4'. This is one of the most significant upgrades in recent months, and it includes Windows Copilot, a new File Explorer, and other features. However, customers have experienced some issues with its installation, including a bug that resets the AMD Adrenalin driver settings.

According to Windows Latest (via VideoCardz), the Windows 11 KB5030310 upgrade may create difficulties with AMD Adrenalin drivers, such as resetting the control panel's custom settings every time the system reboots. This issue has no effect on the graphics driver itself, but it is still inconvenient for users who have it adjusted to their preferences.

While AMD and Microsoft are working on a solution, people are already exploring workarounds for this bug. Disabling the Windows Copilot function, which was added with the KB5030310 update, is one potential fix for this problem. Another approach is to remove the update and wait for Microsoft or AMD to provide a permanent repair.

Users who were trying AMD's new capabilities, such as HYPR-RX or Fluid Motion Frames, which are activated per game, may be frustrated by the problem. If the settings are not saved, they will have to be applied again with each cold system startup. AMD and Microsoft are likely to release a solution for the problem soon.

With Blizzard introducing microtransactions in Diablo 4, players have been keeping a critical eye on all of the studio's decisions. Blizzard caught some flack for the implementation of its ‘Activate Season Pass' button, as many have mistakenly clicked it due to its position in the UI. Now, Blizzard is saying it will make an adjustment.

If you bought Diablo 4's Ultimate Edition, then you get a free accelerated battle pass, but you don't have to use it now for season 1. If you don't have the time to finish a season pass right now, or if your class is so busted (sorcerer) that you're holding out for a future season with fixes in place, then you can simply not activate your battle pass and carry it forward to a future season.

So what's the issue? Well, Blizzard decided to put the activation button for the season pass right underneath the button you need to press to check your seasonal challenges. Once pressed, the season pass activates instantly with no warning, confirmation window or opt-out option. Due to this, many players have activated their season passes by mistake when they had planned on saving it.

As a temporary measure, Blizzard is changing the default cursor position when you first click on the seasonal menu tab to try and mitigate the number of accidental activations. A more permanent UI change will be made to stop this from happening in the future. We don't know how long that fix will take but there is another Diablo 4 patch arriving next week and there will be a developer stream this Friday, so hopefully we'll hear more on that then.

KitGuru Says: When I activated my pass for the season I was shocked at the instant activation. Typically, you would expect a confirmation pop-up or something along those lines. If you are going to have an instant activation button, then at the very least, don't put it right by the button you need to press regularly to check seasonal challenge progress.

Last week, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor launched in pretty rough shape across all platforms but so far, most coverage has focused on the PC version. Even Respawn's public apology only addresses PC performance, completely ignoring the fact that the console version is broken too.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has a number of issues right now. On PC, the game's DRM is extremely restrictive, to the point where you can only install the game on two PCs before getting locked out – which will slow down performance testing and benchmarking for places like Digital Foundry. It also likely means you won't see Jedi Survivor amongst benchmarked games for new graphics card reviews on sites like ours.

Beyond the heavy-handed DRM, CPU performance has been a big issue, especially if you have a ‘weaker' CPU paired with a more modern and powerful GPU.

Respawn's newly posted apology only addresses the PC issues, completely ignoring the fact that the game is also busted on consoles. I've played roughly 20 hours of the game on PS5 so far and the situation has only gotten worse as I have made my way through the story.

I pointed out some of these issues in some early impressions last week. On PS5, the game struggles, especially in performance mode. If you don't have a Variable Refresh Rate display you are going to see constant screen tearing. The game's performance mode also regularly slows down to a crawl, rarely ever sticking to the 60FPS target and often fluctuating. As we can see in some early benchmarks from Digital Foundry, the PS5 can drop to as low as 17FPS on the game's second planet, Koboh. This is in line with my experience but I must say there are equally troublesome performance fluctuations throughout the game, no matter which level you are on.

These drops happen while exploring and in combat, which leads to plenty of frustration points during gameplay. On a number of occasions, I have died during platforming sections due to a button press not registering, or Cal not dashing through the laser gate, or not grabbing onto a climbable wall, instead choosing to just slam into the obstacle and fall into the abyss.

I've encountered freezes when trying to move between areas, particularly in the Saloon on Koboh, where trying to walk through the back entrance and then through to the main bar can take ages as the game tries to load the area behind the automatic door.

The game has crashed on my PS5 three times so far, albeit during lengthy play sessions. The issues go far beyond the PC platform and it would only be right for EA and Respawn to acknowledge the glaring and major issues with the console versions too. In its current state, it is extremely difficult to recommend Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, especially in ‘performance' mode. You get more consistent results from Quality mode, but the issue then is that you are capped to 30FPS, which can feel sluggish – something you don't want in an action game that requires quick parries and well-timed combat moves.

I haven't mentioned bugs yet either. I haven't encountered anything that directly hinders my progress, but often I have noticed graphical pop-in and flickering. Some audio bugs lead to bad lip-syncing, or enemies continuing to make sounds long after being killed off. At first, you'll be wowed by these big new areas and the graphical improvement over the first game, but then the game actively struggles and breaks right in front of your eyes on a consistent basis, which really takes the sheen off the whole visual presentation.

The worst part about this is that through all of its problems, I actually really love this game. The story took me by surprise by going in a direction that I never would have predicted and ultimately, this could end up being my favourite ‘Star Wars' story in years. I love the new lightsaber stances and combat moves. Being able to explore and having quicker access to moves that help you get from A to B is also a big plus over the previous game.

However, in its current state, I don't think the game is going to get the full due it deserves. This needed more than an extra six weeks of development – for all platforms, not just one.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launched with their fair share of issues and Game Freak has been slowly trying to get the game into better shape. Unfortunately, a recent update to the game that introduced expanded functionality and new content also introduced a bug that seems to be deleting some player save files.

According to a number of concerned players on Reddit (via VGC), after utilising the new in-game Pokemon Go link, they came back to the game to find their save file missing. Pokemon also doesn't support cloud saves on Switch in an effort to prevent exploits like Pokemon duplication, leaving you with little hope of getting your data back.

Nintendo and Game Freak have not yet acknowledged the issue. It does seem to be impacting a minority of players so far, but even so, a save-deleting bug should not be acceptable.

It would seem Game Freak still has some work to do on the base game before the new expansions for Scarlet and Violet start to drop.

If you play games regularly, particularly multiplayer games, then chances are you have Discord installed. Unfortunately, a recent update to the app has introduced a bug that unintentionally harms Nvidia GPU performance.

The bug seems to have an impact on memory clocks, reducing them by up to 200MHz on a number of RTX 30 GPUs, as reported by users on Reddit. Nvidia has already acknowledged the problem and a temporary solution is in place. For the temporary fix, you need to download the GeForce 3D Profile Manager and create a new setting for Discord, which will stop the GPU from downclocking its memory while Discord is active.

The update in question is the same update that introduced AV1 streaming with RTX 40 series graphics cards, although oddly enough, users are primarily noticing this bug on RTX 30 series GPUs, and not Nvidia's latest and greatest.

The bug will be fixed with another Discord patch ‘at a later date'. In the meantime, you can check out Nvidia's support article for the temporary fix.

The Witcher 3's next-gen update has arrived, bringing a fresh graphical upgrade and some new content to CD Projekt Red's highly-rated RPG. Unfortunately, the transition to the latest version hasn't been entirely smooth, as PC players are facing some issues.

A number of users have begun reporting performance issues for the PC version of the game across forums and on sites like Reddit. There have also been a number of crashing issues.

In my own experience with the game, I have run into an issue where I can't load a previous save due to having used mods – attempting to load that particular save results in a crash. I have also faced crashes on a fresh save due to fiddling with graphics settings. You may experience a crash when switching RT on and off.

CD Projekt Red is aware of the issues that users are reporting and the team is actively looking into bug fixes and other changes it can make to smooth out the experience for all users. In the meantime, you can switch back to the older DX11 version of the game through the launcher.

During October, Blizzard had to make changes to two Overwatch 2 heroes due to bugs, taking Bastion and Torbjorn out of the roster. To kick off November, Mei was disabled due to another bug. While Blizzard planned to bring Mei back this week, the fix has been delayed.

Mei, a popular DPS character in Overwatch 2, was disabled two weeks ago due to a bug with one of the character's abilities. The bug in question pertains to Ice Wall, one of Mei's abilities, which as you would expect, spawns a wall of ice on the map. A bug with the ability allowed for the Ice Wall to be used to reach “unintended locations” of the map and in some cases, it could also be used to get outside of the map.

Blizzard planned to bring Mei back free of bugs in a patch on the 15th of November, but due to a last-minute ‘critical issue', Blizzard delayed the patch by a couple of days. It will now be coming out tomorrow, the 17th of November.

This patch won't just fix Mei, it will also make other balance changes and bug fixes.

Overwatch 2's launch issues have been well-documented at this point. The game's initial days live were hampered by DDOS attacks, connectivity issues and long log-in queues. The past week has seen more issues, forcing some heroes to be taken offline for maintenance, and now, an errant PC bug is causing shutdowns and restarts.

This particular bug doesn't seem to be very widespread, but there are a few Overwatch forum posts about it dating back over the past couple of weeks. Blizzard has now acknowledged the issue on the Overwatch Support Twitter account, confirming that the team is “investigating an issue with computers restarting or shutting down while playing”.

As usual in cases like this, there could be a number of different problems at play that the developers need to sort through. Additionally, due to PCs having such a broad range of hardware, narrowing the issues down further can be quite the task. With that in mind, Blizzard encourages those that do encounter this issue to submit a DXDIAG, which will give the developers some information about your PC's specs.

Not updating a driver, a driver stability error or a conflict with your sound card can cause these sorts of issues, amongst other more complicated conflicts, but if Blizzard can gather enough data, it should be able to narrow down the problem quicker.

Last month shortly after the launch of KOTOR 2 on the Nintendo Switch, players found a progression blocking bug roughly halfway through the game. Aspyr did offer a workaround that involves skipping a cutscene while it worked on an official patch and now, that update has finally arrived.

Aspyr released KOTOR II on the Nintendo Switch last month, but unfortunately for early buyers, a progression blocking bug was found in the game at launch, which would cause the game to crash when going to Onderon for the first time in-game. You could cheat around this using the game's built-in cheat menu, but this did mean missing out on a cutscene.

Now, the latest patch for the game is rolling out and has squashed this bug. Aspyr also says its new patch fixes other top-reported issues, such as game crashes on certain late game save files when traveling to Dantooine and Korriban, and an infinite loading screen bug when escaping on the Ebon Hawk on Peragus at the start of the game.

Within the next three months, Aspyr will also be releasing an official piece of DLC for Knights of the Old Republic 2, restoring a chunk of cut content from the original game, mirroring the Restored Content Mod that is already available to KOTOR 2 players on PC.

KitGuru Says: I've been re-playing KOTOR on the Switch recently but I've been holding off on the sequel until the cut content DLC arrives, as the DLC will require a fresh save file. Have any of you revisited either of these classics on the Switch?

Earlier this week, Aspyr confirmed that currently, there is a progression blocking bug roughly halfway through KOTOR 2 on the Nintendo Switch. At the time, it was believed that this made the game unfinishable on the console, but it turns out that Aspyr does have a workaround those affected can try.

Aspyr released KOTOR II on the Nintendo Switch earlier this month and in Q3 this year, the team will be releasing a Restored Content DLC, putting cut content back in the game for console players. However, before that, Aspyr is going to have to fix a major bug within KOTOR 2. Currently, when players reach the planet Onderon for the first time, a crash occurs during a cutscene.

There is a way to get around this though. As it turns out, KOTOR 2 on Switch ships with a cheat menu available in-game, which you can access by triple clicking the left thumbstick. From there, you can warp your character to a different section of Onderon, OND504 to be specific, and skip the cutscene causing the crash.

Also it turns out that the bug isn't impacting all players, so there is a specific string of events that have to take place in order to trigger it. This is likely why the issue didn't appear during testing. Aspyr will be fixing the crash in the next patch but there is no timeline for release just yet.

KitGuru Says: It is great that there is a workaround here. Hopefully no other issues pop up to block progression further into the game. Now we've just got to wait for the real fix coming with the next patch.

We're all eagerly awaiting Aspyr's upcoming Restored Content DLC for Knights of the Old Republic 2, marking the first time cut content from the game has been officially packaged and released. Unfortunately, it seems Aspyr has bigger problems to solve first, as a game-breaking bug has been discovered in the newly released Switch version of KOTOR 2.

Aspyr released KOTOR II on the Nintendo Switch earlier this month and in Q3 this year, the team will be releasing a Restored Content DLC, putting cut content back in the game for console players. However, before that, Aspyr is going to have to fix a major bug within KOTOR 2.

After sinking some time into KOTOR 2 on the Switch, players have discovered a progression blocking bug. When you get to the planet Onderon, which is roughly half way through the main story, the game crashes during a key cutscene, stopping players from progressing forward and being able to complete the game.

After contacting Aspyr support, Twitter user, Daniel Moore, raised the issue again, forcing the studio to acknowledge the bug publicly. However, there is no exact timeline for a fix. This raises some questions about Aspyr's QA, as this bug occurs halfway through the game and blocks progression, meaning Aspyr is selling a game that nobody can actually complete. There is also the possibility that there are more bugs lingering in the second half of the game that have not been discovered or addressed yet.

KOTOR II is already two decades old, so it is unclear why Aspyr felt the need to rush this port out without fully testing it. Hopefully the studio will have an update for us later this week.

KitGuru Says: While it is a shame that this happened, hopefully it will be a wake-up call for Aspyr and these problems can be avoided with future releases, like the Restored Content DLC and the upcoming KOTOR Remake.

The first major update for Overwatch 2 has arrived. Blizzard launched the beta version of the game's multiplayer mode just one week ago and players were quick to discover a bug with Wrecking Ball, which can cause the game to crash for all players in the match.

The bug in question occurs when a player uses Wrecking Ball in a match and uses Roll mode. If a player rolls from the ground and up a wall, or rolls off of any high ground surface and then looks immediately down at the floor, the game will crash. You can see the bug in action in the clip below:

There are multiple clips showcasing this exploit being used in Overwatch 2 matches doing the rounds on social media. Blizzard acknowledged the issue this morning, confirming that Wrecking Ball has been disabled immediately while the developers figure out what's going on and patch it up. Wrecking Ball can still be used in Overwatch 1 without issue.

This is the first major bug to pop up during the beta, although there are other complaints amongst players, including calls for balance changes and other fixes. Having spent a good chunk of last week playing the beta, I can tell you it is far from perfect – you can read more on that in this week's KitGuru Games, HERE.

Hunt: Showdown was making headlines for the wrong reasons earlier this week. The game recently received its latest content update and major event, but unfortunately, players encountered major issues after the patch, but Crytek is looking to address the situation.

Following the Traitor's Moon event, Crytek has issued a statement, apologising for the issues present, and announcing an extension to the event so nobody misses out on limited time rewards.

“We understand that there have been several issues that have prevented some of you from comfortably participating in the event (server issues, bugs and for console the sensitivity issues). These have all been very frustrating and we understand the impact that the downtimes and issues have had for many of you”, Crytek wrote.

“As of now, we are extending the event until April 18th to allow those that have been impacted by this some extra time to complete as much of the event as possible. We are also aware that some of you may have lost out on boosts due to the downtime, so we are currently in the process of determining how to best compensate for these. We will keep you updated once we know more.”

In a patch that began rolling out yesterday, several bugs and exploits were fixed, including one that allowed players to be killed multiple times in a game. Due to this bug, Crytek is also reverting the recorded kills of players who abused this to inflate their K/D ratio.

After glowing reviews from critics this week, many of us expected Elden Ring to be in solid shape once the game launched. Unfortunately today, many players, especially those on PC, found out that the game has some major performance issues. Now, publisher Bandai Namco has acknowledged those problems, promising that patches are on the way.

Even with the game's day-one patch, many Elden Ring players are having a tough time playing the game, especially on PC. Complaints of crashes, flickering, stuttering and lower-than-expected frame rates can be found across many Steam user reviews. We've also observed some of these issues ourselves in testing, so stay tuned for an Elden Ring performance analysis in the near future.

While these issues are present now on patch 1.02, Bandai Namco says that updates are being worked on. In a blog post, the publisher writes: “We are currently experiencing some issues that are preventing the game from playing properly under some conditions. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and ask for your patience.”

The post goes on to explain that “the phenomenon of frame rate and other performance-related issues during gameplay” will be worked on “constantly” to improve. Bandai Namco adds that users should also ensure they are running the latest graphics drivers for their video card to ensure optimal performance.

Other bugs are also being fixed, including an issue with Easy Anti-Cheat, an issue with saving on certain platforms and more. We don't have a date for the next Elden Ring patch just yet, but we can expect another update next week, and for further patches to come over the next several weeks.

Two weeks ago, Bandai Namco and From Software were forced to take the multiplayer servers for the Dark Souls series offline for the PC platform. The lack of online functionality is a temporary measure, as a bug that could grant an attacker Remote Code Execution (RCE) privileges was discovered. Unfortunately, the team has not yet been able to fix the security flaw, so the games will remain offline for the foreseeable future.

In Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3, players can enable online functionality to invade other player's games and also be invaded. Unfortunately, a flaw with this system can grant Remote Code Execution privileges, enabling a hacker to worm their way into your PC by exploiting the game's code. With RCE, the attacker could obtain full control of a system without the owner's knowledge, making this a very serious issue.

A similar multiplayer system is also in Elden Ring and it was believed that the flaw could also be present in the upcoming game. With that in mind, From Software has prioritised testing and ensuring safeguards are in place for Elden Ring to avoid having to delay the game, or temporarily remove online features from the PC version. Due to this, From Software has not been able to fix multiplayer in Dark Souls just yet, and as a result, those games will remain offline on PC until after the release of Elden Ring.

“We want to thank the entire Dark Souls community and the players who have reached out to us directly to voice their concerns and offer solutions”, From Software said in a statement. “We have extended the investigation to Elden Ring – our upcoming title launching on February 25th – and have made sure the necessary security measures are in place for this title on all target platforms”.

“Due to the time required to set up proper testing environments, online services for the Dark Souls series on PC will not resume until after the release of Elden Ring. We will continue to do everything we can to bring back these services as soon as possible”.

From Software has promised to provide another update as soon as it has a date in mind for bringing Dark Souls multiplayer back online for PC.

KitGuru Says: This security flaw was serious and fortunately, From Software has been treating it that way. Hopefully we'll have another update on the status of Dark Souls multiplayer before the end of the month, or possibly in early March.

Earlier this week, a significant bug was found in the GOG Galaxy launcher, which caused the app to block PC displays from going to sleep after a period of time. Fortunately, the developers have been quick to respond, with a fix now available.

At the time, we learned that the GOG Galaxy PC app would prevent PC displays from automatically going to sleep after a select period of time. The root cause seemed to be the new GOG Winter Sale banner, which triggered a ‘Video Wake Lock', even when the app is running in the background.

In an email this afternoon, GOG brand and communication team manager, Lukasz Kukawski, confirmed to me that a hotfix update for the GOG client has been released today and should fix this very issue.

With that in mind, if you're running GOG Galaxy on your system, be sure to download today's update and avoid any issues with your Windows PC sleep and power settings.

No matter how stringent you are with squashing bugs, and how much time you spend playtesting a new build of a game or any piece of software, some bugs will inevitably fall through the cracks. Such is the case with the PC game client GOG Galaxy, which is currently preventing PC displays from turning off.

As reported by ResetEra user ‘Polyh3dron’, the GOG Galaxy PC app is currently affected by an issue which is preventing PC displays from automatically going to sleep after a select period of time. For those who rely on screen timeouts and auto sleep features in Windows, this bug is likely to be highly frustrating.

According to ‘Polyh3dron’, the reason for this is due to the fact that the current winter sale banner being advertised in the app is “triggering a ‘Video Wake Lock’ in the system, which prevents Windows from turning off displays, even when the app is running in the background with no window being displayed.”

As the bug is clearly a simple oversight on the part of CD Projekt, hopefully the issue is fixed sooner rather than later. Until then, if you have noticed your PC no longer automatically turning its screen off when it is supposed to, the GOG Galaxy may be to blame. You can follow the steps detailed HERE to see if this is indeed the culprit in your case.

This is neither an indictment of CD Project nor GOG Galaxy, but a simple PSA to all those who have noticed their PCs suffering from this issue. Now you know why (although hop[efully the issue will not persist for much longer – especially as the culprit is already known).

Recently, Amazon Game Studios had to hit pause on the economy in its new MMO, New World, following a series of item duplication and gold farming exploits. After getting everything back to normal, another error was made, gifting players on EU servers hundreds of thousands of gold. As you might expect, many immediately went on to spend it, forcing a server rollback.

New World's Central EU server was just rolled back, wiping out several hours of player progress due to another in-game economy-related issue. Following a patch deployed yesterday morning, players had been accidentally credited with up to 300,000 gold. Players of course went on to spend this gold for new gear at trade posts, or attempted to hide their gains by transferring portions across multiple characters and players.

Since so much of the gold had already been spent and the wealth had spread so widely amongst players, the developers had no choice but to roll back the servers to an earlier point before the gold was gifted. With that in mind, if you've been playing this week and have suddenly lost items, gold or progress made in the last 24 hours, it is because of the rollback to an earlier save point.

This rollback has caused another bug for some players though. As PCGamer points out, some accounts that transferred gold before the issue was identified may now get a character restore failure error. This bug is currently being addressed and should be fixed soon.

KitGuru Says: New World has run into a number of unexpected issues post launch and looking at the Steam Chart numbers, it has clearly had an impact on the player base. Hopefully in the next few months we'll be talking less about bugs and economy freezes and more about new content, giving players reasons to come back.

In the days following Halo Infinite's multiplayer launch, there has been a growing number of complaints around slow Battle Pass progression. Fortunately, it looks like 343 has now taken the feedback on board and changes will be made this week.

Halo Community Manager, John Junyszek, revealed the immediate changes coming this week. For starters, players will now get Battle Pass XP on a per-match basis, ensuring you can “consistently progress through the Battle Pass by playing matches the way you want”.

Additionally, the developers will be removing some weekly challenges, making adjustments to others and fixing bugs to help players progress through tiers at a faster pace. This update will cause a Challenges reset for all players, but to make up for this, anyone that logs in to Halo Infinite between the 23rd and 30th of November will get this week's ‘Ultimate Reward', which is the Sigil Mark VII Visor.

The final change taking place relates to double XP tokens, which will be buffed from 30 minutes to an hour. The team will continue to listen to feedback on changes that can or should be made as players continue to rack up more hours with Infinite multiplayer.

At launch, New World's developers had to scramble to set up additional servers and increase player populations to put an end to queuing issues for players. Now six weeks on, many players have left the game behind as developers continue to fight major issues with the in-game economy.

Last month, New World players discovered a duplication bug, which swiftly led to gold hoarding and a breakdown of the in-game economy. The developers were able to get a hold on things eventually, but a similar bug has now appeared over the weekend and as a result, Amazon has had to freeze New World's economy to deal with it.

With the economy frozen, no transfers of wealth can take place, including sending currency, the guild treasury, trading posts or player to player trading. So far, 1200 accounts have been permanently banned from New World for exploiting item duplication bugs.

There is another issue brewing in New World that needs to be addressed, as previously high population servers are now low population, which causes problems for the guild territory control mechanic that PvP is based on. Amazon has yet to announce changes in this area to reinvigorate PvP.

This morning a few hours ahead of the embargo lift for Intel Alder Lake reviews, Gigabyte Aorus published an impressive seeming overclocking result, claiming to have reached 8GHz on the Core i9-12900K. The embargo for Alder Lake has since lifted, allowing more people to talk freely about performance and it has quickly become clear that this 8GHz result was faked.

This afternoon, Doc TB, the developer behind the CPU-Z validator, explained that in the weeks ahead of Alder Lake's launch, overclockers discovered a bug which would report impossibly high results, some in excess of 10GHz. Intel quickly worked to patch this issue with a microcode update, and in turn, CPU-Z was updated with additional checks.

Following these fixes, the majority of overclockers working directly with motherboard vendors were reporting real results in the neighbourhood of 7.4GHz to 7.5GHz on the high-end. With that in mind, Gigabyte and HiCookie's 8GHz result stands out as odd.

As it turns out, while the initial bug was fixed and the CPU-Z validator should have invalidated the reported 8GHz result, an overclocker with access to the motherboard BIOS source code could still exploit the issue and avoid CPU-Z's additional checks to obtain a positive validation result on a bugged overclock.

Renowned overclocker, Der8auer, has already discussed this situation in a video, adding that HWBot will be implementing checks for results that exploit the validation bug and will likely issue lifetime bans to those who attempt to submit bugged results.

KitGuru Says: Unfortunately it would seem that the 8GHz overclock reported this morning was fake. For extreme overclocking, currently the limit for the Core i9-12900K sits closer to the 7.5GHz mark, as supported by other overclockers in the community.

While Nintendo's first party games are usually very polished at release, occasionally bugs do pop up close to release. This has been the case with Metroid Dread, with players of the newly launched title running into a crashing error with the game, something that Nintendo has now acknowledged.

Players that encounter this issue will see the game forcibly close on their Nintendo Switch, followed by an error message that reads “the software was closed because an error occurred”. This bug appears very close to the end of the game too, which can be particularly frustrating.

A patch is coming, but in the meantime, there is a Nintendo-approved workaround to avoid it and continue progressing through to the end of the game:

“We are aware of an error in the Metroid Dread game that prevents the player from proceeding when the specific sequence below is followed near the end of the game”.

“Near the end of the game, if the player destroys a door while a map marker for that specific door is displayed on the map, the game will forcibly close”.

To avoid the bug, all you need to do is remove the map marker on the door before breaking it and then, the game should continue as normal without crashing. In the meantime, Nintendo is working on a patch to address this, which will be available before the end of this month.

Last week following the launch of Windows 11, AMD warned that Ryzen systems are experiencing performance issues with the new operating system, which can reduce gaming performance by up to 15 percent. As it seems, there are some other issues present that we didn't know about last week, but Microsoft is working on a fix.

AMD and Microsoft identified and publicised the issue with Windows 11 and Ryzen processors last week around launch, noting that a bug is causing high L3 cache latency, thus reducing performance. This week, the first Windows 11 update began rolling out and according to some users, it has made the latency worse and it has also stopped the UEFI-CPPC2 (preferred cores mechanism) from working.

In its own tests, TechPowerUp found that the Ryzen 7 2700X, which typically has an L3 cache latency of 10ns, has risen to 31.9ns following the latest update. Before the new Windows 11 patch, latency was sitting around 17ns.

AMD has responded to this news already, stating that a patch for the preferred cores bug will be coming on the 21st of October, and Microsoft will be fixing the L3 cache latency bug through a Windows Update on the 19th of October.

KitGuru Says: If you're using a Ryzen powered system, perhaps wait a couple of weeks before making the jump to Windows 11 to avoid performance issues. The fixes for these bugs are just around the corner.

Earlier this week, we learned that a security bug has been found in Razer's peripheral companion software, Synapse. The issue allows for admin privileges to be granted without authentication. Razer has now responded, confirming that a fix is on the way soon to mitigate this issue.

The bug itself could be exploited during the Razer Synapse installation process and requires physical access to the PC. Razer is making changes to the Synapse installation application to fix the issue.

In a statement, a Razer spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a situation in which our software, in a very specific use case, provides a user with broader access to their machine during the installation process. We have investigated the issue, are currently making changes to the installation application to limit this use case, and will release an updated version shortly. The use of our software (including the installation application) does not provide unauthorized third-party access to the machine.”

“We are committed to ensuring the digital safety and security of all our systems and services, and should you come across any potential lapses, we encourage you to report them through our bug bounty service, Inspectiv.”

If you're using Razer Synapse, then there should be an update coming your way soon. Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Razer has a bug bounty program, so if you ever happen to stumble across an issue, be sure to report it.

A security bug has been discovered within Razer Synapse, Razer's peripheral companion software. The bug allows a user to obtain admin privileges without authentication. Fortunately, Razer is working on a fix.

The bug was found and reported by security researcher jonhat (via Bleeping Computer), who showed and explained how to gain admin privileges by exploiting the Razer Synapse bug. Considering that over 100 million PCs use Synapse, as per Razer's numbers, fixing this issue should be a priority.

To exploit this bug, you'll have to plug a Razer device and let Windows Update download and execute the driver. When it asks you to select the driver's installation directory, click on the “Install Location”, opening the Windows Explorer. There, press shift+right-click and choose “Open PowerShell Window Here”. Once you hit open, you'll have admin privileges.

After finding the bug, the security researcher got in contact with Razer. The company stated that their security team has started to work on a fix that will be deployed ASAP. Moreover, despite disclosing the bug publicly, the researcher received a bug bounty reward for its discovery.

KitGuru says: Razer is working on a fix, so we should have an update for Razer Synapse within the next few days.

Watch Dogs: Legion is officially releasing tomorrow but unfortunately for those looking to play it on Xbox One X, there is a serious game-breaking bug to be aware of.

During the mission ‘404', which takes place a few hours into the main campaign, Watch Dogs: Legion freezes when running on Xbox One X and as reported by Eurogamer, this then leads to a message from the Xbox warning of an imminent shutdown. The bug apparently causes the console to overheat.

The odd thing here is that Xbox One X is the platform Ubisoft recommended that reviewers play the game on. So there could be other bugs on other platforms that still need addressing.

Ubisoft is already aware of the Xbox One X issue and is working on a fix, which should come in a patch on Friday. Hopefully there aren't any other game-breaking issues further down the line.

KitGuru Says: It is unfortunate that this particular bug is still present the day of the game's launch. This is something that really should have been caught earlier. If you are picking this game up today and plan to play on Xbox One X, then you'll be best off avoiding this particular mission until later in the week when a fix rolls out.

Edison Mail has been described as an “award-winning AI-based independent mail app for secure mailbox management on iOS and Android”, with millions of active users. However, many users have reported that they are able to see emails that weren't meant for them.

Security is a key feature of all digital communication. Billions of emails are sent all over the globe each day – some of them containing sensitive information that both the sender and receiver wouldn't want anyone else to see. However, iOS users of the email application Edison Mail have reported that they could see emails meant for other people.

Edison Mail says the problem was caused by a bug in the code, not a security breach. What caused the bug isn't publicly known, however, it seems like the bug only affected iOS devices. One user, Petter Magnusson, took to Twitter showing someone with the device named “Mandy's iPhone” had gained full access to his email accounts.

In an effort to eliminate the bug, Edison Mail rolled back its latest update. Edison Mail also issued a statement via Twitter, saying:

“We are urgently working to resolve this technical problem in Edison Mail. Yesterday a software update rolled out to a small percent of our users. We have reverted that now and are reaching out to users who have been impacted as fast as we can.”
