After a great deal of excitement, Dragon’s Dogma 2’s launch was hampered by a great number of controversies both surrounding the game’s monetisation as well as its graphics/performance. While the former does not appear to be changing, Capcom have promised a bunch of fixes for the game’s visuals and performance.

Making the announcement on Twitter, Capcom revealed their current and immediate plans for Dragon’s Dogma 2, saying “We're planning to release patches including the following updates and fixes in the near future, and will release them as soon as they are ready for distribution on each platform. Thank you for your patience and support!”

While not extensive, the list of changes include a number of notable and much-requested fixes, including:

 • A new motion blur toggle on PS5 and Xbox
 • Adding the option to switch ray-tracing on/off on consoles
 • Ability to lock console frame rates to 30fps or leave it uncapped
 • Improved DLSS quality on PC
 • Other miscellaneous fixes

While certainly focused on the console versions currently, adding the option for a 30fps cap was a must – especially with Dragon’s Dogma 2’s wildly inconsistent frame rates currently.

Furthermore, while motion blur is typically an aesthetic choice, the option can cause motion sickness for some, and so the ability to disable it is welcome.

While this upcoming patch will fix some of the most notable issues, Dragon’s Dogma 2’s poor monetisation remains a sore spot. Hopefully Capcom will also make some changes to this system soon.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Dragon’s Dogma 2 so far? Are its issues enough to put you off? Do you prefer a locked 30fps or an uncapped framerate? Let us know down below.

While Capcom did a great job keeping things quiet for the unveiling of Resident Evil 7, since then, there have been numerous leaks that have spoiled elements of Resident Evil Village, as well as the Remakes, including RE2, RE3 and RE4. The latest leaks are now beginning to swirl, focusing on Resident Evil 9, which may see the series make the jump to an open world map.

Dusk Golem, a leaker who has specialised in Capcom projects, particularly the Resident Evil series, has now claimed that Resident Evil 9 will feature some significant changes, including an open world map.

The newer Resident Evil games haven't been particularly linear. The most recent mainline games in the series have offered large, open maps, with plenty of backtracking and shortcuts involved, connecting all the areas together. Resident Evil Village had the biggest explorable area to date, so it sounds like Resident Evil 9 will take things a step further in this regard.

While the game may end up featuring a larger, open map, Dusk Golem does also reassure fans that Capcom has tasked its development teams with retaining the DNA of its franchises, so despite any changes, Resident Evil 9 should still look and feel like it belongs in the series. The same can be said for Dragon's Dogma 2 and next year's Monster Hunter Wilds.

We don't have a release date, or even an official title for Resident Evil 9. It has been around a year since Resident Evil 4 Remake landed, so perhaps we'll see a teaser for the next major Resident Evil game before the end of the year.

KitGuru Says: I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this, but if the open world takes inspiration from games like Elden Ring, and avoids the pitfalls that make so many other open-world games feel cookie-cutter, then Resident Evil 9 could be set to impress.

The post KitGuru Games: Dragon’s Dogma 2 launch squandered by greed first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
While I'm typically more positive when it comes to discussing games, today we're going to be diving into a very unexpected controversy. This week, Capcom officially launched Dragon's Dogma 2, a game that was getting rave reviews ahead of its release and was hyped up by many who loved the original game from a decade ago. Unfortunately, Capcom was keeping a few things quiet, with an atrocious list of microtransactions dropping alongside the game.

Dragon's Dogma 2 was set to be another hit in a long-running line of solid releases from Capcom in recent years. Unfortunately, the launch-day excitement has been absolutely squandered, with Capcom launching a list of 21 purchasable microtransactions for the game, many of which spit in the face of the game's deep RPG design.

In a game like Dragon's Dogma, players spend a ton of time crafting not only their main character, but their ‘Pawn' as well, a secondary character that joins you in your party and will mould its playstyle around the things you do in battle. Want to reset your Pawn to act differently? That will cost you £1.70.

There is a particular quote now doing the rounds on social media from Dragon's Dogma 2 director, Hideaki Itsuno, where he explains that fast travel wouldn't be necessary in games if the ‘travelling' part of the game was actually fun. In direct contrast to this, Capcom thought it would be prudent to sell ‘Portcrystals', an item that costs £2.49 and allows you to fast travel to a location of your choice.

Dragon's Dogma 2 does not include a New Game button, so once you've created your character and committed to it, there is a sense that you are stuck with it. To get around this, Capcom is selling a Character Editor item for £1.70, allowing you to tweak your character's appearance should you want to make any adjustments after starting the game. Getting around this is a convoluted process that involves making sure your Steam Cloud Saves are switched off, finding your original save files hiding in a folder and then deleting them. Sure it's not the end of the world to have to go through this workaround, but the fact that Capcom is obscuring the ability to start a fresh new character and instead selling you an item to make any appearance changes, is nothing short of bad practise.

With these two examples alone, Capcom has already undermined core pillars of the game. Dragon's Dogma 2 was designed to be played and explored without fast travel – so why sell pricey single-use fast-travel ‘crystals'? The character creator is one of the most detailed in the industry – so why lock adjustments behind a ridiculous paywall and intentionally make it difficult to start a new character?

As a hardcore RPG, Dragon's Dogma 2 players also have to grapple with limited inventory space and weight management, a good chunk of which is taken up by your camping gear. Don't like this? Well you will be pleased to learn that you can spend £2.49 for an upgraded camping kit that weighs less and takes up less inventory space. Running low on revive potions? Just buy some more at the low price of £0.89 each. Want to hire some new Pawns to join your party and aid you in battle? You can top up on Rift currency to do exactly that. You can even pay for a special key to escape jail should you be arrested in-game – which is an issue, as Dragon's Dogma 2 has save policies in place to make it harder for players to ‘save scum' to avoid things like ending up in jail when trying to steal valuable items or sneak into closed off areas.

It is just baffling to see how each and every microtransaction directly counters deliberate design decisions made for the game. What we could have had here was a deep, rewarding and challenging RPG, but it has all been cast aside in favour of penny pinching.

Imagine being able to buy revive stones as a microtransaction in a game like Elden Ring? The game would be nowhere near as popular as it is if its mechanics and design were undermined at every turn by paid-for items, so Capcom's decision to go down this route with Dragon's Dogma 2 is all the more baffling.

Now the ‘good' news is that you can buy many of these ‘time saving' items in a cheaper bundle, rather than buying them all individually, but it still doesn't change the fact that the very existence of these items damages the perception of the game and casts doubt on the design decisions made to make the game more challenging. Something like not being able to save scum to avoid going to jail would be easily forgiven if Capcom wasn't also turning around and trying to sell you a ‘get out of jail free' card.

Turning inventory and weight management into a core mechanic is usually commendable for a serious RPG, but the ‘seriousness' of the game is immediately called into question when you can just spend £2.50 to buy a magic camping set that gives you back inventory space. This contradiction between developer-intent and monetisation hurts nearly every aspect of the game. I could even look past the ‘one save slot' rule if we could freely make adjustments to our characters in-game, but you can't, you need to buy an item for that, or delete your save and start over.

Now, what should have been a fantastic launch weekend for Capcom, and a big boon for the popularity of Dragon's Dogma as a franchise, has been utterly wasted. The high critic scores don't mean much when word of mouth amongst paying customers has turned overwhelmingly negative. Over on Steam, the game has already dropped to a ‘Mostly Negative' score based on over 11,000 user reviews. The subreddit for the game is also filled with complaints, as well as memes about how bad the game is. When the meme-makers turn against you, it tarnishes your reputation in ways that are not easy to fix – just look at Cyberpunk 2077. Even now, three years on and after a renewed wave of critical acclaim, there are still people who talk down on the game due to its launch troubles.

The worst part about this is if sales are hurt, which they very likely will be, the chances of Dragon's Dogma becoming a mainstay franchise start to get very slim. It already took over a decade to get a sequel to the original. After this debacle, Capcom may need to put the series on ice once again.

The main saving grace here is that most of these items and currencies are earnable in-game, and the critics that did review it for launch all played it without knowledge of the incoming microtransactions, which does suggest that they can be ignored for the most part, but the fact is, many are now going to be put off upon visiting the store page for the game. Prior to this, Capcom had a lot of goodwill built up amongst gamers but the fact is, that has now been traded off for overly pervasive monetisation.

One of the biggest games of 2023 was the long-awaited remake for Resident Evil 4. Released in March, the title is nearing its 1 year anniversary. Ahead of this, Capcom have revealed that RE4 Remake has already sold 7 million copies.

Making the announcement via a press release, publisher Capcom revealed that “the multiplatform title Resident Evil 4 has sold over 7 million units worldwide approximately one year after its release” – helping to push total franchise sales beyond 154 million.

Since its release, RE4 Remake has seen quite a bit of support from Capcom, with the game getting the Separate Ways DLC, a PSVR2 update, Mercenaries mode and even an iOS mobile port.

All-in-all, it’s safe to say that Resident Evil 4 Remake has been a success in all avenues – both critically and commercially. It’ll be interesting to see which entry the team chooses to reimagine next.

2024 marks the 20th anniversary of Capcom’s Monster Hunter franchise. What was once a niche series ballooned into one of Capcom’s biggest thanks to the overwhelming success of 2017’s Monster Hunter World. In celebration of the franchise’s milestone anniversary, a crossover has now been announced with Street Fighter 6.

As part of Capcom’s Monster Hunter 20th anniversary celebrations, the publisher announced a crossover with Street Fighter 6. Arriving in April, this special event will see players “Adventure through the Battle Hub in Rathalos Armor and take photos in a redesigned space built for all hunters aching for a fight.”

It is currently unknown how extensive this crossover event will be, or if it will simply be a glorified photo mode. Regardless, fans of the Monster Hunter series should have some decent fun at the very least – and a surprisingly great time at best – so a win either way.

Street Fighter 6 has had a select number of crossovers so far with varying degrees of integration, including the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; the manga series Spy x Family and Capcom’s own Mega Man. Hopefully the upcoming Monster Hunter crossover exceeds expectations.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Street Fighter’s crossovers so far? What do you expect from this Monster Hunter collab? Will Capcom release a more robust crossover in the future? Let us know down below.

Last month, we reported on the overwhelming success of Capcom’s Monster Hunter World, with the 2017 title continuing its reign as the best-selling game in the publisher’s history with 24 million copies sold. Now, Capcom has announced the game’s latest milestone – surpassing 25 million copies.

Making the announcement via a press release, Capcom revealed this impressive statistic as part of the franchise’s 20th anniversary celebrations, saying:

“With Monster Hunter: World, Capcom drove the Monster Hunter series to global-brand status with a series-first worldwide simultaneous launch and international promotional activities, establishing the game as Capcom’s best-selling title of all time within a month of its release.

They continued, “In the six years since the game’s launch, Capcom has continued to promote digital sales, leading Monster Hunter: World to achieve a new Capcom all-time-record of 25 million cumulative units sold.”

It is worth noting that this 25 million figure includes sales of the game’s Iceborne Master Edition (a bundle of the base game and its expansion) – though this should not take away from World’s undeniable success.

With the game’s long awaited sequel Monster Hunter: Wilds set to arrive some time in 2025, there is still plenty of opportunity for Worlds to continue to cement itself further as Capcom’s Golden Goose.

Exoprimal is one of Capcom’s weirder franchises, with the dino mech shooter offering a fast-paced co-op environment in which players must work together to take down an onslaught of highly aggressive dinosaurs. Since its release back in July last year, the game has had multiple crossovers with various Capcom franchises – the next of which will see players donning Mega Man’s iconic blue suit and blaster.

Season 4 of Exoprimal arrives on the 17th of April and brings with it a new Capcom collaboration – this time seeing the world of Mega Man drop into the game.

Alongside a number of various other additions (such as new beta suit variants, custom matches and more), Exoprimal’s 4th title update will see players take engage in a “fiendish 10-player co-op crossover event with the Yellow Devil from the Mega Man series that can earn you Mega Man-themed rewards.”

Unlike previous crossovers, this latest collab appears to be eschewing its previous method of theming these skins in alignment with the world – instead, this time players will seemingly take control of Mega Man himself.

Exoprimal remains one of the weirder live-service games to have released in 2023. Unlike many others, the game appears to neither be an overwhelming hit nor a commercial and critical failure. As such, it will be interesting to see how Capcom continues to evolve and add to Exoprimal over the coming months – or perhaps even years.

Character creation is a huge part of many RPGs, so much so that players can wind up spending multiple hours simply trying to craft their perfect OC. Capcom’s upcoming Dragon’s Dogma 2 is leaning into this, having now released a standalone character creator app ahead of the game’s official launch.

Available to download right now, the ‘Dragon's Dogma 2 Character Creator & Storage’ app on Steam allows you to “Customize the looks of your main character, the Arisen, and the looks and inclination of your companion, your Main Pawn. You can store up to 5 characters of each, the Arisen and your Main Pawn respectively.”

Of course, these creations can then be transferred to the main game when it launches on the 22nd of March – letting you skip straight to gameplay as soon as it goes live.

It is worth noting that the visual quality in the character creator might not match the final product, with Capcom stating that “In the main game there will be additional graphic options available.”

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is gearing up to be one of Capcom’s biggest titles of the year, and considering the relatively niche popularity of the first game, offering a character creator ahead of time a great way to get prospective fans excited for the full game’s release.

2023 was an excellent year for Capcom, with the Japanese game developer and publisher releasing the likes of Resident Evil 4’s remake and Street Fighter 6. 2024 looks set to be another great year for Capcom, with the publisher having announced a two-day digital event for its current and upcoming games.

Taking to their website, the publisher announced Capcom Highlights: “a 2-day event with the latest on our newest titles”. Taking place on the 7th and 11th of March respectively, day 1 of the event will focus on two of the publisher’s soon-to-be-released titles, namely Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess and Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Day 2 meanwhile will offer updates on pre-existing games, notably Street Fighter 6; Exoprimal; Monster Hunter Now and Monster Hunter Stories (the latter of which is being remastered for current-gen systems).

Capcom’s digital showcases have been a bit hit-or-miss in the past, and so fans should not expect any surprise announcements during either of these days.

That said, for fans of these various IPs, there will hopefully be enough new information to get excited over. The full details on Capcom Highlights can be found HERE.

Just a few short days into 2024, Capcom began its celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the Monster Hunter franchise – announcing updated sales figures for its most recent entries. Following this kick-off, the publisher has now announced a special Monster Hunter Anniversary Program – set to go live on the 12th of March.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Monster Hunter page said “Join us March 12 at 4am PDT / 11:00am GMT for the Monster Hunter 20th Anniversary Special Program! We'll be celebrating 20 years of Monster Hunter, revealing your top 10 monsters of all time and more!”

It is worth noting that this stream appears to be focused entirely on celebrating the franchise’s past legacy, with the team specifying that “This special program will not feature new game announcements or news on Monster Hunter Wilds.”

Clearly, Capcom is gearing up for a big event where they will likely blow the lid off of Monster Hunter Wilds. Ahead of that though, it is cool to see the publisher celebrating one of its most popular franchises alongside the fans. Hopefully the special program does offer some teases of the future.

Capcom is a rare publisher in that they publicly release concrete sales data for pretty much all of their games, letting fans know exactly how their favourite game/series is performing. The company has updated its Platinum Titles – revealing a number of new milestones.

As of the 31st of December 2023, Monster Hunter World continues to be Capcom’s best-selling game of all time, reaching 19.6 million copies (or 24.1 million if you include the Iceborne Master Edition) and helping to push the entire Monster Hunter franchise to just shy of 100 million copies – 97 million to be exact.

Speaking of series milestones, the Devil May Cry franchise has always been more of a cult hit for Capcom, with the franchise mostly residing in the shadows of franchises such as Monster Hunter, Resident Evil and Street Fighter. Even so, the DMC franchise has now officially sold over 30 million copies – putting it at Capcom’s 5th best-selling series (behind Mega Man’s 41 million copies).

It’s always interesting to see the disparity between Capcom’s big franchises and the rest of the publisher’s IPs. Considering the fact that Monster Hunter World alone has almost sold as many copies and the entirety of Devil May Cry, it’ll be curious to see just how many copies Monster Hunter Wilds ends up surpassing in its first year alone.

The Resident Evil series is by far Capcom’s biggest, with the decades-long franchise seeing more than 150 million copies sold across its many games. Following its continued success with the likes of Resident Evil Village and RE4 Remake, the publisher is said to currently be working on nearly half a dozen entries in the series.

As reported by known Resident Evil insider DuskGolem (and shared by Reddit user KekanKok), Capcom is said to be working on a whole host of new Resident Evil titles, with the leaker saying:

“I know of 5 RE games in dev right now including RE9”. For context, DuskGolem previously reported on the status of Resident Evil 9, claiming at the time that it has been in development since 2018 and is planned to release some time in 2025 – not only giving it the longest development time of any RE game, but also the biggest budget.

DuskGolem also offered a small tease on one of the games in development, stating that “I got a…big update on a Resident Evil project literally yesterday, and I’m really excited for it. But it won’t be releasing until late 2026 or early 2027 most likely. So to just hold my tongue for now.”

Based on the fact that RE9 is supposedly coming out in 2025, it is unlikely to be the mysterious project that DuskGoldem is referring to. That said, with Capcom claiming that they plan to develop more remakes of their RE titles, the possibilities are nearly endless.

The word DRM leaves a sour taste in many PC players’ mouths as such anti-piracy software typically impacts a game’s performance in a noticeable manner. For years, Monster Hunter Rise has been plagued with Denuvo’s DRM, and so it came as a welcome surprise when Capcom decided to remove the software. Unfortunately, following its removal, the team added a new form of DRM to the game – breaking Steam Deck support.

Monster Hunter Rise recently saw an update, bringing the game to version 16.0.2.0. The patch removed the infamous Denuvo DRM, though unfortunately it was replaced by yet another anti-tamper software: Enigma DRM.

It is unknown why exactly Capcom did this, but one of the side effects (as reported by Overclock3D) is that Monster Hunter Rise is currently broken on the Steam Deck, despite being a verified title. Capcom has publicly acknowledged the problem, promising that “a hotfix for this issue is planned for release in the very near future.”

Immediate reactions to the new DRM have been unsurprisingly negative, and so we will have to wait and see whether Capcom ends up reversing their decision.

In the lead up to Street Fighter 6, both Capcom and fans alike seemed confident in the fact that this latest fighting title would be a big deal, with the publisher hoping to sell 10 million copies when all is said and done. Capcom is already well on its way to achieving this goal, with SF6 having reached 3 million copies sold in just over 6 months.

Making the announcement via a press release, the team at Capcom said, “Street Fighter 6, the latest title in the storied Street Fighter series, has sold over 3 million units worldwide (as of January 3, 2024).”

This represents a great milestone for the game, which for context managed to sell 1 million copies in just 3 days.

This was then pushed to 2 million copies within the first month; so while the rate at which the game has sold might’ve slowed down significantly since June, it still represents a strong and consistent grand return for the Street Fighter series – especially in the wake of SF5’s less-than-stellar launch.

Considering that game ended up selling 7.4 million copies, Street Fighter 6 should easily beat it in just a few short years. We will have to wait and see.

Dragon’s Dogma released all the way back in 2012, falling under the radar – though amassing a cult-like status amongst those who played the open world RPG. While the first game in the series was hampered somewhat by its technology, Capcom appears to be going all-out for its sequel, announcing that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will include both DLSS and ray-tracing at launch,

Announced by Nvidia during CES, the next batch of RTX-enabled titles have been revealed, including the fact that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will feature both DLSS 3 and ray tracing from launch (on the 22nd of March).

Going into slightly greater specifics, Nvidia confirmed that the ray tracing being used for Dragon’s Dogma will be ray traced reflections and ray traced lighting. Generally, RT reflections and lighting are the two most impactful types of ray tracing.

RT lighting especially will be big for the game, as Dragon’s Dogma 2 features a large open world with a dynamic time of day and an incredibly dark night time – the perfect situation for ray traced lighting.

2024 marks the 20th anniversary of what has become one of Capcom’s biggest franchises – Monster Hunter. Though initially a relatively niche title, the past two entries (MH: World and Rise) have done gangbusters for the publisher, with the former now selling 23 million copies.

Releasing a new year’s message via YouTube in celebration of the franchise’s 20th anniversary, Monster Hunter series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto said: “I hope you’ve been enjoying your hunts! As we welcome the new year, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the progress of the Monster Hunter series last year.”

With that, Tsujimoto revealed some rather impressive stats for the prior two mainline entries, saying “In 2023, Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise achieved total sales of 23 million and 13 million units respectively”. This makes Monster Hunter World by far Capcom’s best-selling game of all time, with second place going to ‘Rise’ and third place being Resident Evil 2’s remake – also with 13 million copies sold.

Despite the fact that the next-gen ‘Monster Hunter Wilds’ isn’t due to release until 2025, this year looks set to be another big one for Capcom and Monster Hunter.

One of the biggest games of 2023 was the long-awaited remake for Resident Evil 4. Released back in March, the game would later get an expansive piece of DLC in the form of ‘Separate Ways’. It seems as though Capcom are preparing to release a complete edition of sorts for the game, as Resident Evil 4 Remake ‘Gold Edition’ has now leaked online.

Though it has since been removed, ResetEra user ‘Vito’ discovered a new listing by game review aggregator MetaCritic for Resident Evil 4 Remake Gold Edition. While no specifics were listed, the Gold Edition will likely bundle the base game with its Separate Ways DLC – and hopefully also the Deluxe Edition content.

Added features aside, the game is supposedly set to launch on the 9th of February – just under a year following RE4’s initial release. While perhaps not the most exciting package, it will be good to see the complete version of RE4 Remake being included in a single package.

Hopefully the DLC and all prior updates will be included on the disc, both for ease of use and for the sake of preservation.

Following the success of the Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes, Capcom has confirmed plans to continue to remake more Resident Evil games. The company has not yet disclosed which title will be the next to receive the remake treatment but in all likelihood, it will be Resident Evil 5, the next mainline game in the original series.

At this year's PlayStation partner awards ceremony in Japan, Resident Evil 4 remake director Yasuhiro Anpo (via IGN) stated that the studio will reveal their next Resident Evil remake in due time.

Many fans are speculating about which title Capcom will choose to remake next. Following the current trend, Resident Evil 5 would be the most likely. However, spin-offs such as Code: Veronica should not be discarded as options. There's also a small chance we see proper, modern remakes for Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil 1. RE1 technically had a remake years ago, but it didn't come anywhere close to matching the ambition seen in the RE2, RE3 and RE4 remakes and is much more akin to a remaster, rather than a remake.

During the same Q&A, Resident Evil 4 remake producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi mentioned the advantages of using Capcom's RE technology to redo Resident Evil titles, implying that they plan to use it for future projects.

Capcom announced plans for a VR version of Resident Evil 4 Remake prior to the game's launch this year. It has been a while since we've had an update on its status but that changed today.

Resident Evil 4 Remake VR will officially launch on the 8th of December, initially only for PlayStation VR2 owners. The mode will be a free update to those who already own the main game on PlayStation and will allow players to run through the entire game in VR, just as the VR modes for RE 7 and RE Village did.

If you don't already own Resident Evil 4 Remake but do own a PlayStation VR2 headset, then have no fear, as there will be a free demo for the VR version available on day-one too, so you can download it and try it out without going all-in by buying the full game.

We don't know if the Resident Evil 4 Remake's VR mode will eventually make its way to the PC version but we certainly hope it does. With that said, we also had the same hope for Resident Evil 7 VR, but that remains a PSVR exclusive to this day.

KitGuru Says: Are you planning on trying out the RE4 Remake in VR? If you are a PC-only player, then it is worth noting that the classic version of Resident Evil 4 also has its own VR version, which is already available.

While most other publishers have made the jump to the $70 starting price for new games, Capcom has managed to avoid it for a while. However, that will be changing next year with the launch of Dragon's Dogma 2, which will be Capcom's first title to launch at $69.99 in the US, however, PC players in the UK will get a bit of a break here.

On PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Steam in the US, Dragon's Dogma 2 will cost $69.99. While this typically means a £64.99 or higher price tag for those in the UK, we appear to be catching a break for a change, especially on PC. Here in the UK, the Steam version of the game will cost £53.98 instead, which is actually a little under the current exchange rate. At the time of writing, $70 USD works out to just over £55 GBP, without accounting for any VAT.

The game's Deluxe Edition, which includes a handful of useful items to help kickstart your progress in the early game, is naturally more expensive. In the US, this will cost $79.99 across PC and consoles. In the UK, we're looking at a £69.99 price tag on console, or £65.98 on PC.

Considering how much game prices have risen and how the price conversion often works out for those of us in the UK, this is a fairly nice change of pace.

KitGuru Says: Part of me does wonder if the Steam prices for the game will be adjusted eventually, as it doesn't seem to have been worked out entirely correctly. If you are planning on getting this game on day-one, it might be worth putting in a pre-order on Steam ahead of time – you can always refund the game afterwards as long as you don't play for more than two hours.

The full 15-minute stream is still available to watch, showing the new story trailer, followed by a lengthy gameplay showcase:

Graphically, Dragon's Dogma 2 makes a leap compared to the original and its remaster. The core components of what made the original game unique remain too, including huge monster fights, the Pawn system and open world exploration set in a vast fantasy world. The new character creator is pretty in-depth too with a generous number of customisation options.

Dragon's Dogma 2 will launch for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5 on the 22nd of March. On PC, pre-orders are already live, priced at £53.98 for the standard version, or £65.98, which includes additional items to help you get started.

Preliminary PC system requirements have also been uploaded to the game's Steam page, calling for an Intel Core i5-10600 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, 16GB of RAM and a GTX 1070 or RX 5500 XT graphics card at minimum. The recommended system requirements call for a Core i7-1700 or Ryzen 5 3600X, 16GB of RAM and an RTX 2080 or RX 6700 graphics card.

The miminum requirements target 1080p at 30FPS while the recommended requirements target 4K at 30FPS but the graphics settings used weren't noted. Hopefully some additional details are shared a bit closer to launch.

It has been over a decade since Dragon's Dogma first launched. Over the years, the game has garnered a cult following but Capcom is hoping to expand the series' reach with a long-awaited sequel, Dragon's Dogma 2. Ahead of a showcase for the game later this evening, the game's release date has leaked once again.

Hours ahead of Capcom's planned livestream, the Steam Store page for Dragon's Dogma 2 was accidentally updated early. The page briefly showed a release date set for the 22nd of March 2024. This date matches an earlier leak from the PEGI games ratings board and given how close we are to Capcom's official announcement, this information is likely legitimate and accurate.

Interestingly, Capcom had previously hinted at a major project slated for release in Q1 2024 during discussions with shareholders. The leaked release date confirms that Dragon's Dogma 2 is indeed the undisclosed project, dispelling speculation about a secret new project in one of Capcom's other renowned franchises, such as Monster Hunter or Resident Evil.

Capcom's upcoming 15-minute livestream, scheduled for 9 PM GMT, promises an exclusive look at Dragon's Dogma 2 gameplay and insights into what fans can expect from the sequel.

I do hope that the sequel is a bit more polished and easier to get to grips with from the early stages of the game. Will you be checking out the Dragon's Dogma 2 stream later this evening?

In recent weeks, we've seen some positive signs that Capcom's highly anticipated title, Dragon's Dogma 2, is much closer to release than expected. The game was playable at the Tokyo Game Show in September and a showcase dedicated to the game is coming later in the month. Now, we may have an idea of what Capcom plans to announce, as Europe's video game ratings board may have just leaked the game's release date.

Capcom has already stated that it has a major release planned for Q1 2024, ahead of the end of the fiscal year. Now, it appears that this mystery game will indeed be Dragon's Dogma 2. As spotted by Wario64, PEGI has rated the game and in its listing, it put the release date down as the 22nd of March 2024. If this were a placeholder date, then it would likely be set as the 31st of March instead.

Capcom will most likely unveil the release date during the 15-minute showcase scheduled for November 28th. We can also expect a new look at gameplay and a dive into the features of the game and story premise.

Based on what we've seen in the trailers so far, Dragon's Dogma II will be similar to the previous title, featuring enhanced combat, better graphics, and a unique party system. The scenarios and environments align with those of Dragon's Dogma, but the better graphics give it more visual appeal. So, if you like the former game, you should at least try it.

In 2022 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Dragon's Dogma, Capcom made the announcement fans had been waiting for. Dragon's Dogma 2 is finally on the way and it is starting to look like the game's release is just around the corner.

Capcom has told investors that it has a big game on the books for the first half of 2024 but so far, we have not been told what this title is. However, there are positive signs that it could be Dragon's Dogma 2, as VGC reports that the game has now been rated in at least one country. Typically, games are submitted to ratings boards to get the all-clear for release months ahead of time.

Dragon's Dogma 2 was also playable recently at the Tokyo Game Show in September and press did get to play a preview build as well to put out first-impressions, another good sign that development is pretty far along at this stage.

Capcom has not announced a release date for Dragon's Dogma 2 yet but there are a few opportunities to make a big announcement in the near future. For starters, The Game Awards takes place in a couple of weeks and we are expecting some new game announcement streams from all three big console makers in Q1 2024.

Capcom is one of the few publishers to directly share transparent sales figures for its games, providing data on all titles which have sold over 1 million copies. As part of the company’s latest fiscal report, Capcom revealed that the Devil May Cry series has hit a new sales milestone.

Sharing its updated list of Platinum Titles, Capcom revealed that the Devil May Cry series has now officially sold more than 30 million units – with a good portion of that being thanks to DMC5’s 7.4 million copies sold.

Another smaller franchise which continues to perform admirably is Dragon’s Dogma. Despite only having one mainline title released to date, total sales for the series has now reached 7.9 million copies – an excellent outcome, especially in anticipation of Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Though we reported on it previously, Capcom also shared that the Resident Evil franchise has now sold over 150 million units in total, making it by far the most successful franchise in the publisher’s repertoire (with Monster Hunter coming in second place at 95 million units sold).

With Capcom promising to release a new ’massive’ title by March of 2024, it will be interesting to see how these numbers shape up in comparison. We will have to wait and see.

The Resident Evil series is by far Capcom’s biggest, with the publisher recently reporting that the franchise has sold over 150 million copies in total. This increasing success has afforded them the opportunity to go bigger with each successive entry – with Resident Evil 9 now said to have the “biggest budget of the series.”

As reported by known Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem, the leaker claimed via their Discord (and shared by Insider-Gaming) that Resident Evil 9 has been in development since 2018 and is planned to release some time in 2025, meaning it will have had 7 years in development when all is said and done.

Additionally, the upcoming unannounced sequel is reportedly the most costly entry in the franchise’s history, with Dusk Golem stating: “The two things I've said about it publicly is RE9 is the biggest budget & longest development time of any RE game to date.”

In discussing some of the reasons as to why the game is taking so long to develop, Dusk Golem continued, “Capcom have considered RE9 to be a closing chapter for a few things to move onto from there to new story arcs and focuses, take the series in new directions. So RE9 is sorta' both a closing & beginning chapter for things in Capcom's eyes.”

After straying away from the series’ roots with Resident Evil 6, Capcom went back to the drawing board, introducing Resident Evil VII: Biohazard with a new protagonist and a whole different playable perspective. The story of Ethan Hunt then continued with Resident Evil Village. It will be interesting to see what the team has planned for RE9 – especially with it seemingly being the end of the trilogy.
