Intel has taken a bit of a hit over the last week, after announcing delays for 10nm desktop processors and delays to its first planned 7nm CPUs. Now, Intel has also announced that its chief of hardware is leaving the company soon, with his last day set to be the 3rd of August.

Murthy Renduchintala has been the Chief Engineering Officer at Intel since February 2016. During that time, he has overseen almost all of Intel's hardware launches. Previously, he worked at Qualcomm before Intel lured him away.

This is part of a number of changes happening in Intel's executive leadership team. From now on, Intel's Technology, Systems Architecture and Client Group will be separated into a few teams. Dr. Ann Kelleher will lead Technology Development, Keyvan Esfarjani will lead Manufacturing and Operations, Supply Chain will be led by Dr. Randhir Thakur and finally, Raja Koduri will continue to lead Architecture, Software and Graphics.

Design Engineering is going to be led by Josh Walden in the interim while Intel “conducts an accelerated global search to identify a permanent world-class leader”.

As part of the announcement, Intel CEO, Bob Swan, offers the following statement: “I look forward to working directly with these talented and experienced technology leaders, each of whom is committed to driving Intel forward during this period of critical execution. I also want to thank Murthy for his leadership in helping Intel transform our technology platform. We have the most diverse portfolio of leadership products in our history and, as a result of our six pillars of innovation and disaggregation strategy, much more flexibility in how we build, package and deliver those products for our customers.”

KitGuru Says: We'll have to wait and see what this all means for Intel in the long-run. Perhaps the launch of Xe Graphics will help distract from the delays the CPU side continues to face.
