Sea of Stars is an indie RPG from Sabotage Studio – the team that brought you 2018’s excellent retro action-platformer The Messenger. Launching to near-universal acclaim last year, Sea of Stars ultimately went on to win ‘Best Indie Game’ at the 2023 Game Awards. That said, the title looks set to get even better with a surprise couch co-op update.

Sharing an 8-second teaser, Sabotage Studio officially announced ‘Single Player+’ – a new upcoming mode which “allows for three players to journey together in Sea of Stars.”

This update will switch up the gameplay quite a bit, with the team explaining: “Staying true to the game’s core turn-based roots, each player will engage in traversal and combat with a new ‘Co-op timed hits’ mechanic as they embark with friends on Sea of Stars’ grand adventure.”

Given the complexity of this update, the team have not shared a release date, simply stating that “The new mode is currently in development and more details are set to be released soon.”

In other news, the team also revealed that Sea of Stars has officially surpassed 5 million players; an impressive increase of 1 million since December last year.

Little Nightmares is one of the most exciting new horror game IPs of recent memory, with the first game launching back in 2017 followed by a sequel in 2021. Announced during Gamescom, Little Nightmares 3 will be the first game in the series to include multiplayer co-op – but only online. Now, the team behind the upcoming title has explained exactly why.

In an interview conducted by Gamesradar+, the developers of Little Nightmares 3 – Supermassive Games – spoke on the upcoming 2024 title, its tone, the implicit horror of the series and more.

For the first time, Little Nightmares 3 will let you take on the horrors with a friend, though only via online co-op. Explaining the reasons behind this decision, Supermassive's game director Wayne Garland said:

“Co-op was the most requested feature from our fans, so it was really important for us to give them that. I do think that it will add a layer to the game as well, by letting you experience it with a friend.”

They continued, “We've been asked questions about online versus couch co-op. Couch is something that we considered, but again, when you come back to the atmosphere and the immersion that we're trying to elicit through Little Nightmares, I think it was important for us that we stuck to our online co-op only rather than traditional more party aspects.”

Little Nightmares is a rather sombre game, and so it makes sense as to why the team opted not to include local co-op in order to ensure that the title’s tone is maintained. Hopefully this decision pans out when Little Nightmares 3 releases some time in 2024.

Late last year the side scrolling beat ‘em up River City Girls 2 finally released after much anticipation. Following a few technical and performance issues at launch, the game was updated with over 100 different fixes and changes. The team at WayForward were not done however, as a new update has brought it with an online 4-player co-op mode and more.

Making the announcement on their website, the team at WayForward said “We are thrilled to announce that a new free update is now available for River City Girls 2, adding online play to the co-op beat-’em-up’s 4-player mode on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. This is in addition to the existing up-to-4-player local co-op mode and the crossplay-enabled online 2-player mode available on all platforms, which includes Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.”

As mentioned, this is just the latest update to come to the game, with prior patches bringing with it a whole host of improvements – including but not limited to:

  • The animation rate and camera movement updated for smoother gameplay on all platforms, effectively displaying at 60 FPS on PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox, and Steam. Improvements could also be seen on Switch
  • New Game+ can be replayed again after defeating the final boss in New Game+ mode
  • Combos and juggles had been made more user-friendly
  • Provie can now perform air specials and air grabs from aerial light combos
  • Riki’s Guard Break now always dizzies enemies

Adding 4-player co-op online could not have been an easy task and so it is certainly a welcome surprise to say the least. Hopefully River City Girls 2 continues to get a bunch of surprise and welcome updates for years to come.

While Grounded is a great survival game, many fans of Obsidian Entertainment became fans through single-player RPGs. At one point, Avowed was going to be more multiplayer-focused as part of an internal effort to entice publishers into helping with the project.

Prior to being acquired by Microsoft, Obsidian had spent decades as an independent studio and constantly had to hustle to keep things going. In a particularly bad period between projects, Obsidian turned to Kickstarter to fund Pillars of Eternity, a decision that ended up saving the studio from going under. Avowed is a new first-person RPG, set in the same universe as the Pillars of Eternity games.

In a portion of the Obsidian 20th Anniversary Documentary, co-founder Feargus Urquhart confirmed that at one point, he “really pushed” for Avowed to contain multiplayer, as it would enable him to sell it as a ‘more interesting game' to publishers in hopes of securing funding and partnerships to see the game through to release.

Looking back on this, Urquhart says that he now believes this was “the wrong decision” and ultimately, Obsidian did drop its multiplayer hopes, in part due to difficulties restructuring the team's usual workflow to accommodate for multiplayer and co-op gameplay. Now, Avowed is set to be the type of RPG most fans follow the studio for.

Avowed does not have a release date yet but it is expected to launch sometime in 2024 for PC and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

KitGuru Says: Most RPGs struggle to incorporate co-op in a way that makes sense to me or is completely user-friendly. There are usually some caveats and the gameplay experience is typically very different from a polished single-player game. Obsidian has Microsoft's backing now, so it will have the ability to try out new ideas in the future but in the meantime, sticking to single-player for Avowed will be considered the right choice by many fans.

We've known for a while now that Insomniac was at one point considering the possibility of adding co-op to its Spider-Man game. With Spider-Man 2 set to be more of a team-up effort between Peter Parker and Miles Morales, the idea of co-op gameplay has come up again, but Insomniac has now confirmed it is firmly committed to single-player for the time being.

Comments from voice actor, Nadji Jeter, who voices Miles Morales in the game, seemed to indicate that co-op might make its way into Spider-Man 2. Before that, datamining efforts found references to co-op and multiplayer within the game files for the first game. Due to this evidence, fans did begin asking Insomniac about this on Twitter and sure enough, the studio has replied to set the record straight.

Insomniac says that there won't be co-op multiplayer in Spider-Man 2, instead it will be “an epic single-player adventure” just like the original game. For some, this will be cause for celebration, as co-op and multiplayer features can often water down what otherwise could have been a great single-player game.

Sony will be going live with the PlayStation Showcase on Wednesday at 9PM BST. During the stream, we expect to see new gameplay for Spider-Man 2, alongside confirmation of a September release date.

It has long been rumoured that Guerilla Games is working on a multiplayer game set in the Horizon universe. Thanks to a number of new job listings, this fact has officially been confirmed, with multiple positions explicitly stating that the team is working on a co-op multiplayer Horizon title.

Making the announcement on their ‘LifeAtGuerilla’ careers Twitter page, the studio said “Join Guerrilla in Amsterdam as we work to expand the world of Horizon.”

With that, the studio explicitly stated for the first time that they are working on a multiplayer Horizon title, saying “We are continuing to create epic solo adventures for Aloy. But there is more. A new internal team is developing a separate Online Project set in Horizon's universe. Featuring a new cast of characters and a unique stylized look, friends will be able to explore the majestic wilds of Horizon together.”

With how many major positions are open for application, it is safe to assume that this title is still many years away. Fans of the franchise will not be left wanting however, as 2023 will see the release of the Forbidden West expansion ‘Horizon Burning Shores’ and those getting a PSVR 2 will be able to explore Horizon Call of the Mountain.

Furthermore, this multiplayer project is said to be separate from the Horizon MMORPG which is also in development – meaning there is a lot more Horizon coming our way in the near and far future.

Despite promises to include local and online co-op with Halo Infinite, a recent roadmap update confirmed that 343 Industries has cancelled split-screen features. This was largely seen as odd, as players have been able to use a glitch to activate split-screen since launch, and the feature seems to work really well even to this day.

After the announcement that split-screen was cancelled a few weeks ago, some of the team at Digital Foundry began investigating. In a new video, they put split-screen co-op to the test across Xbox Series X and Xbox One. On the new-gen system, the game handles split-screen well, with decent visual settings and the option for 60FPS with just a few minor dips. On Xbox One, the game runs at 30FPS in split-screen, but resolution does suffer, often dropping below 720p.

While co-op runs well, there are some issues that players have discovered. The time of day often goes out of sync between the two players in split-screen mode, which isn't game-breaking, but could be distracting. There's also no collision detection for the two Master Chief models, and there are occasional visual glitches in parts of the map.

The video ultimately comes to the conclusion that split-screen co-op is very close to being finished. However, it is worth keeping in mind that 343 likely has a larger team of testers that have uncovered a larger number of bugs that need to be addressed before shipping.

On 343's end, the company did admit that it is shifting resources away from local co-op development in order to speed up development of future seasonal content. However, with players being able to glitch their way into a decent enough local co-op experience, cancelling the feature outright doesn't make much sense.

KitGuru Says: With all of this now becoming public knowledge, hopefully 343 will backtrack. Infinite has had a lot of problems, but if you have a fan-favourite, staple feature of the Halo series working this well unofficially, then there seems to be little reason to pull the plug entirely.

Halo Infinite's first year has been rough to say the least. Content droughts, progression system issues and delayed features have really soured the overall opinion of the game and unfortunately, 343 still hasn't managed to get on top of it.

This week, 343 revealed its new Infinite roadmap, which pushes ‘Season 3' all the way to March 2023. Instead, this holiday season will bring a ‘Winter Update', which will have a free battle pass and run for a lengthy 5-month period. This update will include a ‘Match XP beta', indicating that 343 is finally revisiting multiplayer progression to address complaints made back at launch.

The update will also include two events, a new game mode and two new maps. The most important part of this update, which drops on November 8th, is the addition of Campaign co-op and mission re-play, as well as the Forge mode beta. While campaign co-op has been delayed once again, at least now it will launch alongside mission replay, which wasn't a confirmed feature previously.

The arrival of Forge mode should also help ease some of this coming content drought. If you've been following the Forge updates while the tool has been in testing, you'll know that it offers the most impressive toolset of any Halo game to date. Now we just have to hope there is enough of a community left around this game to make custom content for.

The delayed ‘Season 3' will now begin on the 7th of March and will end on June 27th, the shortest Infinite season to date. This coincides with an important note – local and split-screen co-op modes have now been cancelled and all of those resources have been reassigned to ‘live service' development. The cancellation is a bad look for a game that has struggled so much since launch, but it does mean the game will get swifter content updates from Season 3 onwards.

Now that Spider-Man has officially broken free of PlayStation exclusivity and ended up on PC, dataminers have swiftly gone to work trying to figure out all of the game's secrets. As it turns out, at one point, Insomniac was considering a multiplayer co-op component for the game.

In the game files, dataminer ‘DniweTamp' found several strings pointing to co-op gameplay and file references to multiplayer. It would seem that at one point Insomniac was considering two playable characters in co-op mode, likely a combination of Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

Ultimately, Insomniac chose to not go ahead with this feature for the first game, or in the smaller standalone expansion, Miles Morales, which sees Peter Parker leaving NYC for a bit and leaving hero duties Miles.

Interestingly, Insomniac is currently working on Spider-Man 2 and the cinematic reveal trailer does hint at a closer partnership between Parker and Morales, with both of them fighting together. It is possible that co-op will make its way into the sequel, or perhaps Insomniac will stick to its current formula of having multiple playable characters at different points in the story.

Last week, 343 made it known that the team is planning to go live with a campaign co-op beta test for Halo Infinite soon. Initially, the target was to go live with the beta on the 11th of July. As the clock ticked down to the final minutes, 343 confirmed that the beta still needs work and won't be going live just yet.

In an update posted yesterday evening, 343 Community Manager, Brian Jarrard, explained that flighting is a fluid process and that one of the teams found some last minute issues that needed to be resolved before the team could open the doors to public tests.

343 is still targeting to go live with the campaign co-op flight test sometime this week, so if you are a Halo Insider member, then be sure to keep an eye on your emails for an invite. If you haven't already signed up to the Insider program, then you won't be considered for this current flight, but you will be considered for future tests.

Once online campaign co-op is out of the way, 343 will turn its attention to local co-op, and then later this year, we'll also get the Forge update, bringing in some of the most requested features missing at launch.

KitGuru Says: Many won't consider Halo Infinite's campaign mode to be complete until co-op is available. While 343 is at it, we could also do with mission replay. Once these features and Forge mode are finally in place, perhaps we'll finally start to see some positivity around Infinite.

Modders have been working on enabling co-op multiplayer for Skyrim for years in various forms, like Skyrim Together and Tamriel Online. Later this week, the most promising Skyrim multiplayer mod to date will launch – Skyrim Together Reborn.

Skyrim Together Reborn is a version 1.0 update to Skyrim Together, marking the mod's official release. As the name implies, the mod will enable multiplayer in Skyrim, allowing up to 5 players to explore and do quests together. The mod will even handle quest syncing so everyone progresses together.

Originally, Skyrim Together Reborn was supposed to have a beta before the final release, but after some last minute improvements, the dev team decided it could polish things up and jump straight to version 1.0.

As with any ambitious mod, there will be quirks and not everything will work perfectly at all times. With that in mind, if you're planning on downloading this, don't expect an ultra-polished multiplayer experience. There will likely be some issues, like networking errors or crashes while playing. The developers will fix lingering issues post-launch, but as with most mods, the team primarily consists of volunteers doing this as a labour of love in their spare time, so patience will be required.

Skyrim Together Reborn will be available on Nexus Mods as of the 8th of July at 4PM GMT.

Aside from online campaign co-op, 343 is also working on local co-op and split-screen, which will be arriving later in a separate update. Right now, the team is targeting the 11th of July to begin publicly testing Infinite's online campaign co-op, so assuming there are no last minute delays, Halo Insider members will be able to test the feature in less than two weeks.

To get into the beta, you will need to have registered for the Halo Insider program by the 5th of July. The beta will also require players to download a separate build of the game, as has been the case with previous Halo flights.

Assuming all goes well with the test, the feature should roll out to all Halo Infinite players fairly soon. Then in August, we should get updates on local co-op and split-screen. We should also hopefully hear more about Infinite's Forge mode too, as recent leaks suggest the mode is nearly ready.

KitGuru Says: Halo Infinite needed a lot more work post-launch than anticipated. Progress has been slow, but hopefully by the end of this year, all the necessary features for a truly great Halo game will be in place.

Following on from the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase a few days ago, developers have been taking on interviews and revealing a few new details about upcoming games. This includes Arkane's Redfall, a co-op game that will have one major downside – progress isn't persistent for all players.

Speaking with IGN in an interview this week, Redfall designer, Harvey Smith, revealed that campaign progress will only be persistent for the host of a co-op game. That means any players joining a host's campaign won't make any story progress on their own saves, so you'll have to replay missions in solo mode if you aren't the host. While you won't make story progress for your character while joining another player, your character level, skills and weapons will apparently carry over, which could ruin the balance of early missions in the game on your solo playthrough.

Smith claims that while the team initially intended to give every player in a session a ‘credit' for completing a mission, they found that for the flow of the game, players would be better off having to replay missions in solo mode to better keep up with the story.

Other co-op games have done this in the past, including Wolfenstein Youngblood and Dying Light. A number of fans have already commented negative reactions to this news, with many hoping there is still time to reverse this decision.

KitGuru Says: Typically I'll pick up a game like this to exclusively play in co-op, but having to replay story missions kind of takes the point out of it for me. Unfortunately, it may well be too late in the development cycle to make any major changes to this now.

Yesterday, the second trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet dropped, giving us a new look at gameplay. Not only did we get to see new Pokémon, but we also got a November 18th launch date, confirmation of open-world gameplay and up to four-player co-op.

Besides the release date, the trailer also shows some new Pokémon from the new generation, including the legendaries that will be exclusive for each version. These are Koraidon (Scarlet), a red reptile with a magnificent mane, and Miraodon (Violet), a violet, android-like serpentine with two jet engines in place of its legs.

In addition to the new legendary Pokémon, the trailer gives us our first look at Pawmi, a cute electric-type mouse, Lechonk, a hog Pokémon that looks adorable, and Smoliv, an olive Pokémon that looks like Budew. Moreover, you can also see the starter Pokémon in action, as well as an overview of the open-world featured in the game.

The studio also revealed the upcoming Pokémon titles will feature co-op gameplay, allowing you to join up with three other players to explore the world. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will release exclusively on Nintendo Switch on the 18th of November.

Back in March, Supermassive Games officially announced The Quarry, a spiritual successor to Until Dawn, the studio's best known game. Unlike Until Dawn, The Quarry will feature co-op gameplay and will release across Xbox, PlayStation and PC later this year. Unfortunately, the game's online co-op features have been delayed.

Rather than delaying the full release, The Quarry will still release this year, on the 10th of June. However, the game will be missing its planned online multiplayer feature. Instead, online multiplayer will be added to the game roughly one month later, on the 8th of July. Local multiplayer should still be available at launch.

The Quarry stars a cast of teenagers as they try to survive the final night of summer camp. Just like in Until Dawn, each of these main characters can live or die depending on the player's choices. The cast is also made up of Hollywood actors, so expect to see some familiar faces, like David Arquette from the Scream films, Miles Robbins from 2018's Halloween, Lance Henriksen from Aliens, Ted Raimi from Evil Dead and more.

In co-op mode, Player 2 will take on the role of a counsellor in-game. In online mode, multiple players can join your game and help to vote on decisions, a feature that should make for some interesting Twitch streams. The Quarry is set to release for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and PS5 on the 10th of June.

KitGuru Says: Supermassive did a great job keeping this game under wraps right up until just a few months away from launch. The inclusion of co-op seems excellent too, although it is unfortunate that online features will be coming a month later. With such a small delay, we do wonder why the studio wouldn't just hold off and release the game in July with all features in place.

Yesterday as promised, WB showcased new Gotham Knights gameplay, giving us our first look at Red Hood and Nightwing in action. The stream also brought along a few important updates about the game – it is no longer coming to PS4 or Xbox One, and co-op is not being upgraded as previously rumoured.

Following yesterday's stream, Warner Bros Games confirmed that Gotham Knights is still on track to release on the 25th of October. However, the developers have decided to cancel the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, opting instead to fully focus on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5.

We don't have confirmation on what specifically led to this decision, but it was likely to cut down on the amount of testing, debugging and fixes needed during the final months of development. Chances are, the game would have to be delayed again to include the Xbox One and PS4 versions at launch.

Yesterday's stream also confirmed that Gotham Knights will support 2-player co-op and not 4-player as rumoured earlier in the week.

WB's co-op spin on the Arkham formula is on the way this year, with Gotham Knights set to release in October. Up to this point, the developers have only confirmed 2-player co-op gameplay, but it seems that the developers may have increased this to up to 4-player co-op. On top of that, there will be new gameplay footage shown later today.

In Gotham Knights, players will assume the roles of Nightwing, Robin, Red Hood and Batgirl to protect Gotham City after the passing of Bruce Wayne. We know that the Court of Owls will be involved in the story in some way, as well as the League of Shadows. We can assume some other fan favourite villains will also make an appearance during the game.

The next major update for the game will be arriving later today, at 2PM BST. The new update will focus on Nightwing and Red Hood, as well as their combat abilities.

While this hasn't been confirmed yet, a recent update to Gotham Knights' PlayStation Store listing indicates that 4-player co-op will also be in the game at launch, which makes sense given that there are four playable characters in the game.

Gotham Knights is currently scheduled to launch on the 25th of October for current-gen and last-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles, as well as PC.

Halo Infinite drew a lot of criticism at launch for its lack of campaign co-op and forge modes. As the months have gone on, that criticism has grown louder due to a lack of meaningful content updates for multiplayer. Much of this was supposed to be fixed with the rollout of ‘Season 2' in May, but as it turns out, we'll have to wait a bit longer for some major features.

Last week in a development update, 343 revealed that campaign co-op will no longer be coming in time for Season 2's launch on the 2nd of May. This includes local, split-screen co-op, which players can actually glitch in to already, as well as online co-op:

“We’re making great progress on Campaign network co-op, but the reality is that it’s going to take more time to land a high-quality, full-featured 4-player network co-op experience in the massive, wide-open world of Halo Infinite”, 343 said. “We’re also committed to a great 2-player split-screen co-op experience on all Xbox consoles, from the original Xbox One through Xbox One Series X—and the non-linear, wide-open sections of the Campaign present some big challenges for split-screen that have taken us more time to solve.”

Rather than arriving in early May, campaign co-op will be arriving ‘later' in the season. The next season itself should also be shorter than season one, which was extended by several months so that developers could focus on finishing up features like co-op and Forge mode.

The custom multiplayer/creative mode, Forge, is still planned for Halo Infinite ‘Season 3', but we don't have a date for that just yet.

KitGuru Says: Without campaign co-op or main mission replay, there is little reason to return to Halo Infinite outside of multiplayer. While there was initially talks of treating Infinite like a ‘live service' game with frequent content updates, it appears that 343 wasn't fully prepared to take that task on.

This month, the Halo Infinite campaign officially launched and as great as it is, the lack of co-op play has been disappointing for many fans. As it turns out, there is a way to get local co-op working already, but it requires exploiting a glitch.

Campaign co-op has been a staple of the Halo franchise since its inception, with split-screen campaign co-op being present in Bungie's original games for Xbox. As it turns out, split-screen, local co-op is present in Halo Infinite, but if you want to try it, you'll have to glitch your way there.

Twitter user ‘nobleactual' discovered the glitch (via Windows Central). In order to get split-screen co-op working, you need to load the Halo Infinite campaign with your Xbox in offline mode. From there, connect a second controller and sign into an Xbox account, then load up a campaign save using Controller 1. Once loading has finished, hit the start button on Controller 1 and then back out of the menu. Then, hit start on Controller 2 and split-screen will activate and a second Master Chief will appear in the game.

Unfortunately, this is an early, unfinished version of co-op campaign, so there are some issues. For instance, player 2 does not get their own HUD and in some areas, you will experience graphical errors. It is also worth noting that this only works on Xbox consoles and not on PC.

For the next several months, this will be the only way to experience co-op campaign, unless 343 Industries patches this glitch out of the game. Official campaign co-op is planned for Halo Infinite's Season 2 update, which drops in May 2022.

KitGuru Says: I'm most interested in seeing how split-screen co-op impacts performance on an Xbox Series X. In single-player mode the game delivers an almost flawless 60FPS throughout, so it will be interesting to see if the hardware can keep that standard up in split-screen mode.

It is no secret that Halo Infinite is missing a few features at the moment, from fan-favourite multiplayer playlists and Forge mode, to campaign-specific features like co-op and replayable main story missions. While these aren't in the game right now, they will be coming at some point, with mission replay being a point of focus right now for 343 Industries.

Compared to previous Halo games, Infinite's campaign is markedly different. Linear levels still exist, but they are spread out over a huge open-world map, rather than sitting in a menu waiting to be selected. According to creative director, Paul Crocker, this made adding in mission replay “incredibly challenging”, but not impossible.

Speaking with Stevivor, Crocker explained that players can expect to be able to replay campaign missions at some point down the line: “It's part of what is coming later. The main reason is because, being a more open game and a nonlinear game, it became incredibly challenging. It's not that it doesn't work, it's just that it's not finished.”

“We made the decision to make a better game, to improve the quality of the game so we could then add the features – just like co-op. And that is disappointing for us as the people who made it, but it was, also, the better option for us to make a better game and add that later.”

Campaign mission replay is being worked on alongside other core features for Infinite, like campaign co-op and Forge mode. Currently, campaign co-op is expected as part of Infinite's Season Two update, scheduled for May 2022. Presumably, campaign mission replay will also be coming next year.

KitGuru Says: Unfortunately, many of Infinite's linear missions have similar level layouts and maps, so there are less standout moments. Still it would be nice to revisit some specific boss fights and of course, go back and find collectibles, skulls and audio logs that may have been missed the first time.

Back in August, 343 Industries confirmed that Halo Infinite would not include campaign co-op or Forge mode at launch, pushing them back to coincide with the game's ‘Season Two' content drop. With the early release of Halo Infinite Multiplayer this month, the game's first season of content has been extended, and as a result, these features will take longer to drop.

Season one of Halo Infinite will run through to May 2022, close to half a year. In an interview with Eurogamer this week, Halo Infinite Campaign lead, Joseph Staten, confirmed that the extended season does mean that it will take longer to implement campaign co-op and forge mode.

At this point in time, campaign co-op is still planned for Infinite's second season, but Forge mode has been delayed a bit further, being pushed back to coincide with Infinite's third season of content.

“Yes, we are extending Season 1. So our goal still remains what I said before, which is to ship campaign co-op with Season 2 and Forge with Season 3. But those remain goals”, Staten said. “Those remain targets. And we can't commit to any hard dates right now, because as we're seeing with this multiplayer beta, other things might move up in the priority stack for us.”

Co-op play has long been a fan favourite feature in Halo games, and Forge mode serves as the series' level editor/custom mode, allowing players to put together creative maps for multiplayer games.

KitGuru Says: It is a huge shame that co-op and Forge won't be available at launch, and the long wait for those features is sure to be disappointing for many fans. Still, so far, the multiplayer seems to be successful and based on early previews this week, the campaign is shaping up to be very good.

Halo Infinite is still ‘on track' to launch before the end of this year, but the game will be missing some key features to start off with. Last night, 343 Industries confirmed that campaign co-op won't be available at release, and neither will Halo's long-running custom content mode, Forge.

As part of this month's Halo Infinite development update, 343 Industries confirmed that some planned features will be held back until 2022. As reported by PCGamer, co-op mode for the campaign is planned to roll out alongside Infinite ‘Season 2', which will also see a slew of new multiplayer content released as part of the game's Battle Pass system.

“Unfortunately, as we focused the team for a quality experience for launch, we made the really tough decision to delay shipping campaign co-op for launch”, 343 said.  Co-op play has been a long-standing component for Halo games, although 343 already made some changes with Halo 5, which omitted couch co-op entirely.

As part of this, Forge has also been delayed, so user-generated custom game modes and maps won't be available until some time in 2022. In slightly more positive news, 343 also confirmed that the recent Halo Infinite multiplayer tech test shipped with a misconfigured .exe file on PC, for the next technical test, performance should be improved by around 20 percent.

For now, Capcom is still referring to this as Project Resistance but more details are teased to be coming at TGS so perhaps we'll get a proper title then.

Original Story (30.08.19): A few weeks ago, we learned that alpha/beta testing for a brand new Resident Evil game would begin in September. Yesterday, we also learned that this brand new game would debut at the Tokyo Game Show next month and a trail of breadcrumbs were swiftly found, giving us an early idea of what to expect. Based on all of the evidence so far, it looks like we can in fact expect a new co-op focused Resident Evil Outbreak.

For now, Capcom is officially referring to this game as ‘Project Resistance', which will be properly unveiled for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One on the 9th of September. There is also a Project Resistance website set up, although it currently doesn't lead to any publicly viewable content. Interestingly, the website for Resident Evil Outbreak has recently been updated too, although its contents are also hidden from the public for the time being.

With all of this information in hand, internet sleuths were able to pull some thumbnails images from an unlisted/private YouTube trailer Capcom has uploaded in preparation for the full announcement. These images show what looks to be a four-player co-op game, once again hinting at a new Resident Evil Outbreak.

Outbreak was the first game in the Resident Evil series to feature co-op gameplay and online multiplayer. The original game was from the PS2-era but multiplayer gaming has come forward leaps and bounds since then, so it will be very interesting to see what this idea looks now on current-gen hardware.

KitGuru Says: Resident Evil 2 Remake has been one of my favourite games so far this year, so I'm looking forward to seeing what's next. For now, we are almost certainly getting a successor to Outbreak, which could help expand RE's appeal beyond the usual single-player crowd.

Set to launch on July 26, developer Machine Games is giving Wolfenstein: Youngblood a nice co-op-based twist with its “buddy pass” feature. There’s no need to panic as this is not another season pass, but instead allows owners of the Deluxe version of the game to invite one friend at a time to download and play for free.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood is set much later than previous games, as players step into the shoes of the Terror Twins. Otherwise known as Jess and Soph Blazkowicz, the daughters of original protagonist BJ Blazkowicz, the two must hunt for the whereabouts of their father across a Nazi-occupied Paris in the 1980s.The retro-inspired synthwave-clad trailer showcases all of the over-the-top action we’re used to seeing in the Wolfenstein series, blending particularly well with the spin-off’s co-op mode.

While users can blast through the campaign on their own with the computer controlling the second character, Machine Games is hoping to give players the full experience with its new buddy pass, included within the Deluxe version of the game. This is incredibly reminiscent of Nintendo’s DS Download play, allowing those that own the game to invite those who don’t to get in on the mayhem. There is also an upgrade path presented to the invitee, allowing them to grab their own paid copy with ease.

Deluxe Edition owners are also granted exclusive cosmetic items, including weapons and a titanium alloy variant of their default Power Suit. It’s not certain whether invitees will gain access to the same exclusive items when they join Deluxe players, but the buddy pass certainly seems like a feature more co-op games utilise in future.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood Deluxe Edition is currently available for pre-order at £34.99 on Steam. The Standard Edition of the spin-off title will set players back £24.99, if the added benefits don’t suit.

KitGuru Says: It looks to me as though this is a progression on the long-lost art of the demo, and certainly a practice I want to support by throwing my money at the screen. Do you think you’ll be buying Wolfenstein: Youngblood?

When it comes to the Far Cry games, Ubisoft has always tried to include some form of co-op. In Far Cry 3, there was a separate side-story that you could play with a friend. In Far Cry 4, all side quests were accessible in co-op mode but the main story was still locked down to single player. Now in Far Cry 5, Ubisoft is opening up co-op play for the entire campaign for the first time.

Far Cry 5 is heading our way in February. This time around, the game is taking place in a fictional county in the US state of Montana. The game includes a recruitment system, allowing you to bring an AI-controlled partner along with you for missions. Alternatively, you could also invite a co-op buddy into your game to fight through main story missions with you.

When playing in co-op, your friend will appear in game as a custom character. You’ll be able to share ammo and health packs, friendly fire can be switched on or off and there will be full in-game voice chat support.

Only the host of the game can accept missions and keep progress made in the world. However, your co-op buddy will still be able to earn XP, cash, guns etc and take them back to their own save. You can only start a co-op game with players on your friends list, so there is no matchmaking in place.

Far Cry 5 launches on the 27th of February 2018 for PC, Xbox One and PS4.

KitGuru Says: I’ve always wanted to play through a Far Cry campaign in co-op mode. However, if story progress doesn’t transfer back to your own save after joining someone else, then it seems like a less attractive option. Will any of you be playing Far Cry 5 when it comes out? What do you think of the new co-op features?

In the year following Final Fantasy XV’s initial launch, the development team has been hard at work on additional content. One major expansion heading to the game is the addition of co-op multiplayer. This has been in the making for a long time and while it was initially supposed to launch this month, some extra time is required to get everything right.

The online multiplayer mode for Final Fantasy XV, known as ‘FFXV Comrades’, will now be coming out in November. The Comrades D LC is set between chapters 13 and 14 of the main campaign, giving players the chance to create their own character and complete side quests, populate towns and complete different activities with friends.

This DLC comes ahead of the game’s PC launch, which arrives in ‘early 2018. Final Fantasy XV ‘Windows Edition’ will include all DLC released so far and is designed to be a graphical showcase, pushing the luminous engine as far as it will go.

KitGuru Says: I didn’t get around to finishing Final Fantasy XV on the PS4, so I’m looking forward to the PC version coming in a few months time, especially with the Comrades DLC included. Will any of you be hopping back on to Final Fantasy XV when the comrades DLC releases? Will you be waiting for the PC version to check it out?

One of the biggest issues many had with No Man's Sky on release was the lack of multiplayer/co-op, particularly since we were told before release that players would be able to encounter each other in-game. That didn’t turn out to be true at the time but it seems that Hello Games might be making good on its promise now, as new details about the upcoming Atlas Rises update have come to light.

Earlier this week, we heard that No Man’s Sky would be getting a big free expansion this week called ‘Atlas Rises’. At the time, we knew that this update would add a Stargate style fast travel system and make changes to the story. However, some new details have come to light after a list of upcoming changes accidentally went live on the No Man’s Sky website before being promptly pulled.

From what we saw, Update 1.3, otherwise known as Atlas Rises, will feature an “overhauled central story line, portals, a new procedural mission system, trade improvements, system economies, joint exploration and more”. If that last little note is true then multiplayer will finally be in the game like originally promised.

Multiplayer is only a fraction of the story here though. Judging from the description, the entire game is getting an overhaul, with new trading systems and a new story. Hopefully the central story will be a little more satisfying this time around.

KitGuru Says: This update for No Man’s Sky sounds huge but obviously, this studio has over promised and under delivered in the past so many will remain sceptical until the proof is shown. I’ll be looking forward to seeing what people think once the update goes live.

Final Fantasy XV has finally gone gold and aside from the final game itself, fans of the game will also have some interesting DLC to look forward to, the first of which will add an online co-op mode to the sprawling RPG. Square Enix announced what would be in the first of its DLCs for the game this week, giving it the name ‘Comrades'.

The Comrades DLC will add up to four player co-op to Final Fantasy XV, giving players the chance to take on the roles of Prince Noctis and his crew. This will be a paid DLC though, so you will either need to grab the $24.99 season pass, or pick up the DLC when it is released as a standalone purchase.

Other DLCs in the season pass will focus on Noctis's three companions, which each one of them getting their own story to flesh out the character. There is no specific release schedule for Final Fantasy XV's season pass content just yet, but the final game is set to launch on the 29th of November, so we can expect additional as we enter 2017.

KitGuru Says: A co-op mode for Final Fantasy XV actually sounds pretty interesting, especially given that you will be running around the game-world with a group of four anyway. Are any of you planning on picking up the new Final Fantasy when it comes out?

Platinum Games has been taking on a lot of licensed projects over the last year or so, the most recent of which was Transformers: Devastation- which turned out to be pretty fantastic. Now the studio is set to tackle Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as well, with a release set for next week.

The game is officially titled ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan' and judging by the trailer, things are looking good so far, with a cell-shaded art style and co-op battle system.

While this game doesn't have any tie-in to the upcoming TMNT movie, the two projects do share a few villains in the form of Bebop, Shredder and Krang. Judging by the game's description, this is going to be a co-op focussed experience too, which is great as quite a few games have steered away from co-op play in recent years.

“Battle alongside your brothers through the sewers, subways, and streets of NYC to take down Shredder and Krang's evil organization, Foot by Foot. Unleash custom combat skills and powerful team combos to save Manhattan from the overwhelming dark forces growing in the shadows.”

KitGuru Says: As a fan of the spectacle fighter genre and the old TMNT cartoons myself, I'll be looking forward to this one- especially after Platinum Games delivered with Transformers Devastation. What do you guys think of this announcement?
