One of the Xbox’s most successful releases in recent years has been the Halo: Master Chief Collection (following a bunch of updates and patches) – bringing all the previous Halo titles onto modern platforms in a remastered format while also allowing players to hot swap the graphics, sound effects and more. It has long been rumoured that Gears of War is set to receive a similar treatment, and following a long period of silence, new leaks have sprung up reiterating that the collection is happening.

Shpeshal_Nick has amassed quite a reputation over the months and years for their Xbox-specific leaks, with the insider recently reiterating the fact that a Gears of War Collection is supposedly in the works, responding to one person on Twitter by saying:

“I keep telling @JezCorden and @Rand_al_Thor_19 that I won’t back down. It’s happening”. Adding a little bit of extra information, Nick continued, “I’m currently not allowed to give much more detail than ‘it’s happening’ at the moment (I’m working on loosening the grip) but even as someone who isn’t a big Gears fan anymore, what this is should be really awesome. Add even better adjectives for Gears fans.”

Though there has been no official announcement or acknowledgement of such a collection, from what is being said, it seems as though this bundle will indeed share many similarities with Halo: Master Chief Collection, at least in terms of its ambitions. Hopefully this means that like Halo, players will be able to switch back and forth between the old games and their remasters. We will have to wait and see.

Relic Games' Homeworld is one of the most well remembered strategy titles of the past couple of decades, right up there with classics of the genre. However getting older titles like that to work on modern operating systems is never easy, which is why a lot of people are particularly excited by Gearbox's upcoming revamp of the series. But it's not just re-releasing the content with some compatibility improvements, the developer roped in many of the original sound and visual artists to improve the aesthetics of the game, making it look far prettier than it ever did, without altering the original game's style.

homeworld2

This is showcased at its best in the new trailer for Homeworld 2, which cuts between the original game and the HD remastered edition (both of which are included in the Homeworld Remastered Collection) to show what improvements have been made.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JH8ETGPXBO4′]

Also bundled with the new versions of the classics is a new Steam multiplayer beta, which creates  a single hub system for those wanting to go at it in the original games' multiplayer modes, meaning you can jump between playing Homeworld and Homeworld 2 against friends and enemies without needing to change games.

The only part of the series not included is the Cataclysm expansion, due to the source code for the original being lost. However there is some hope, as its developers have stated that the new remastered engine that Gearbox utilised for this collection could essentially recreate the original expansion. No announcements have been made as of yet though, so we'll have to wait and see.

For those wanting a truly exclusive version of the game too, there's a Collector's Edition that comes bundled with a 13″ tall Pride of Hilgara mothership replica with USB powered lighting, for ‘just' £99.

The Homeworld: Remastered Collection launches tomorrow, 25th February.

KitGuru Says: I must admit, the Homeworld games are a series I never played through back in the day. Considering how well it's remembered it is though, I may need to pick this up and give it a try.

Clear out your schedules space fans, as the Relic Games classic, Homeworld and its sequel, are set to return, remastered and compatible with contemporary operating systems in just under a month's time. Working with original Relic artists, Gearbox has revamped not only the original in-game aesthetics to bring them into the modern age, but also touched up some of the cinematic scenes, to help the game remain true to its roots, whilst appealing to a more graphically savvy audience.

To celebrate the unveiling of the release date, there's a new teaser trailer out too:

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXjI3DgyOqM']

Both Homeworld and Homeworld 2 will come with new high-resolution textures and models, with added graphical effects and a much cleaner HUD, all shown in high resolution (all the way up to 4K if your display can show it). The game's audio however, will be entirely original, though some of it has been remixed to enhance the soundtrack. There's even a combined multiplayer mode for both Homeworld one and two, letting you go head to head with other players in the universe without needing to switch versions.

However, if you prefer the original experience, the classic games will also be present in the collection and simply updated to work with modern operating systems.

If you want to go the whole hog and show your love for the series more than ever, there is a limited collector's edition available, coming with a digital download code for the game; a 13″ tall Pride of Hilgara mothership replica, featuring USB powered lighting and engines; a Historical Briefings and Artwork book, giving you the backstory and history of the Homeworld universe and a tonne of concept art from the original game's creation, along with a die cast Angel Moon Homeworld keychain.

All of this can be yours for £99.00.

KitGuru Says: Somehow, Homeworld and its sequel are two games that I completely missed out on. I hear great things though so this is one remastering I will be checking out for sure.

Last week, Hideo Kojima teased a new ‘Metal Gear Collection' for release this year, most gamers were expecting an updated HD collection of past titles for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Unfortunately, what we actually got was wildly different, the Metal Gear Collection 2014 is actually just a fashion line.

The Metal Gear 2014 collection comes with some figurines, a leather jacket, a phone case and some mystery items in a box. A massively underwhelming announcement considering we were hoping for past Metal Gear games to come to the PC platform. However, we did get something good out of TGS, we have some new Metal Gear Solid V footage- which IS coming to the PC:

In addition, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has been confirmed for a 2015 release. No exact date was given but it will arrive next year at some point. In the mean time, console owners can play Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, which will also be coming to the PC platform soon.

KitGuru Says: While the Metal Gear collection announcement was a huge disappointment, the new Phantom Pain footage looks pretty good. Have any of you guys been following the TGS announcements today?

An MGS collection was released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 a couple of years back but with Metal Gear Solid V coming out next year, this would be a good opportunity to offer up past games in the series to PC owners along with early adopters of the new consoles.

Kojima posted the above image on his Twitter account. We've also got a sneak peak at an upcoming preview for Metal Gear Solid V, which will be shown in full at TGS next week:

KitGuru Says: The Metal Gear Collection 2014 has yet to be announced and bringing older titles to the PC could be a bit of a challenge. However, I imagine that a PC version of the collection would sell fairly well. Would you guys like to see the Metal Gear Collection come to PC? Are you looking forward to Metal Gear Solid V?

Minecraft is this generation's Mario. It's the game that's going to define a genre and generation of gamers for years to come and for many, will be the first game they really invested themselves in. Not us, we're too old, but those kids, this will be the one they remember. To help them out in that regard, when they finally move out, they can take with them their collections of Minecraft figures, which are set to hit the shops in the next couple of weeks.

Made by Character Options, thee same company that handles Disney and Doctor Who action figures, the new Minecraft range will be three inches tall, with articulated limbs and come in several different flavours: Steve, Enderman, Creeper and Zombie. Each will come with its own personal accessory, like a pickaxe or spade, and a single block of varied type. Each will be priced at £7.99.

However these guys aren't the only Minecraft toys heading our way. Character Options is also releasing a paper-craft range, which comes with 30+ foldable blocks, which lets you build, Minecraft style, outside of the game world. These kits will come with added animal mobs or hostiles and cost £9.99 each. Larger packs will also be available for £12.99 and £19.99 a piece, coming with 48 pieces and 90 pieces respectively.

The final piece in this puzzle are the plushes, with Creeper, Enderman and pig versions, though no pricing information has been revealed for these yet.

KitGuru Says: You've been able to buy pick-axes and the like for a while now, but will any of these papercraft of action figures attract you guys to drop some cash on it?

Rockstar isn't done making money just yet, after earning more than $1 billion in its first week and making Grand Theft Auto V the fastest selling game of all time, its only right to release the soundtrack. ‘The Music of Grand Theft Auto V Collection' spans across three albums with a total of 59 tracks.

The collection includes: the original game score, original music from artists and third party songs licensed for the game, available as a bulk buy or as individual albums. Volume one of the collection titled ‘Original Music' has 18 tracks from various high profile and emerging artists. Volume two ‘The Score' has 22 tracks, filled with the games original composures.

“GTAV is the first entry in the series to feature a dynamic original score composed and engineered to be completely responsive to the player’s actions within both missions and open world gameplay.”

Volume three ‘The Sountrack' features songs from the 17 in-game radio stations compiled on to this 19 track album.

GTAV album artwork

The Grand Theft Auto V Collection can be downloaded on Itunes now, each individual album costs £7.99, if you want the whole collection it'll cost you £17.99 saving you nearly £6 over buying them individually. If you want to view the tracklist, it can be found here.

KitGuru Says: It's easy to overlook the hard work put in to the music and sounds for a video game. That said, with so much effort going in to this release, from radio stations and sound effects to the original score, I'd be surprised if Rockstar didn't release a soundtrack album. Did you enjoy the music in GTA V? Are you thinking of buying the soundtrack?
