As all the leaks predicted, Apple today announced this year's iPhone and the big change is indeed the addition of USB-C. Due to new EU rules, a universal charging standard must be used by all smartphone makers, prompting Apple to finally drop its proprietary Lightning port in favour of USB-C.

There is an iPhone 15 and an iPhone 15 Plus on the way. While previously, only the iPhone 14 Pro had Apple's fancy new Dynamic Island UI element, this feature is now available on this year's standard iPhone models.

The standard iPhone 15 is also getting a camera upgrade. The main sensor is now 48MP, has sensor-shift stabilisation and 26mm focal length. Unfortunately, the standard iPhone's display isn't being upgraded, remaining at the 60Hz refresh rate rather than making the jump to 90Hz or 120Hz. The standard-sized iPhone 15 does have a 6.1-inch display, while the Plus model has a 6.7-inch screen instead. Under the hood, there is a chip upgrade to the A16 Bionic SoC.

The iPhone 15 will launch on the 22nd of September in black, white, green, yellow and pink colour options, priced at £799.

KitGuru Says: The iPhone 15 doesn't offer a lot of surprises, but the inclusion of the Dynamic Island and upgraded chip are nice additions. Still, I don't see a lot of compelling reasons to upgrade from an iPhone 12 or 13.

Back in late 2021, 2010’s Sonic Colours received a much-anticipated remaster in the form of Sonic Colours Ultimate. At the time, the game’s PC release was limited to the Epic Games Store. Finally, more than a year after its launch, Sonic Colours Ultimate is finally available on Steam.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Sonic the Hedgehog page said “Surprise! Sonic Colors: Ultimate is available on Steam NOW!” Alongside this surprise launch, Sonic Colours Ultimate is currently listed on Steam for 30% off as a launch discount promotion, bringing the game down from £34.99 to a much more palatable £24.49.

Sonic Colours Ultimate released in September 2021 to less-than-stellar reviews. While the creative choices made with the remaster seemed to be hit-or-miss depending on the player, what was unanimous was the fact that the game’s technical performance was a mess.

At launch, Sonic Colours Ultimate suffered from some pretty big issues, including major graphical problems, glitches, sound issues, and so much more. Fortunately, most of these bugs have since been fixed, and so if you were wanting to give Sonic Colours Ultimate a try, now is a good time to do so. Hopefully more Epic Games Store exclusives find their way onto Steam.

While SEGA do not have a new Sonic title ready for the hedgehog’s 30th anniversary in 2021, to satiate fans, the publisher is releasing a remaster of the 2010 title Sonic Colours. Being a Wii title, the game only ran at 30fps at the time. While a jump to 60fps is one of the biggest new features, it seems as though the Switch may still only be able to run the game at 30fps.

Following the announcement of the Sonic Colours: Ultimate Edition, SEGA has been detailing to fans exactly what they can expect with this remaster of a now 10 year old game. While trailers detailing these upgrades for Sony and Microsoft’s consoles have touted 4K resolutions and 60fps gameplay, the Switch trailer promises no such thing, simply “re-vamped lighting and improved textures.”

While it was obvious that the Switch wouldn't run the game at 4K, it is disappointing to see that it won’t at least hit 60fps – especially considering the fact that the game originally released on Nintendo hardware from 2 generations ago which was already outdated at launch.

This lack of 60fps was further cemented by the video itself, which was encoded at 60fps, but with the gameplay still only running at 30fps. Previous 3D Sonic titles such as Sonic Forces were limited to 30fps on Switch, but considering the fact that they were targeting modern hardware at the time, the compromise was understandable. With Sonic Colours being so old now, relatively speaking, it is disappointing to see that 60fps appears to be off the table for Switch users.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Sonic Colours: Ultimate? Is the 30fps cap Nintendo or SEGA’s fault? Do you want to see a true Switch Pro? Let us know down below.

Google attempts to undermine the Apple’s 2018 iPhone launch with Pixel 3 launch pages https://www.kitguru.net/lifestyle/mobile/android/damien-cox/google-attempts-to-undermine-the-apples-2018-iphone-launch-with-pixel-3-launch-pages/ https://www.kitguru.net/lifestyle/mobile/android/damien-cox/google-attempts-to-undermine-the-apples-2018-iphone-launch-with-pixel-3-launch-pages/#respond Fri, 14 Sep 2018 16:13:44 +0000 https://www.kitguru.net/?p=386929 As expected, Google geared up some teasers for its upcoming Pixel 3 launch earlier this week in an attempt to undermine Apple’s iPhone 2018 launch. As expected, Google geared up some teasers for its upcoming Pixel 3 launch earlier this week in an attempt to undermine Apple’s iPhone 2018 launch. While there is nothing concrete confirming recent conspiracy theories of a third Pixel 3 entry, Google has lined up at least three launch colours for its Pixel XL.

Immediately after Apple made its iPhone Xs and Xs Max available for pre-order, Google began teasing what’s to come when its Pixel 3 range debuts on October 9 with a new launch page. This sports a simplistic grey design with a plain “3” in the middle, accompanied by a way to sign up to “get the scoop” on the new handsets as new information drops directly from Google itself.

Shedding a little more light on the impending devices, Google Japan launched an interactive web page earlier today teasing what looks to be colour variants of the upcoming Pixel 3 devices. The page itself shows a two-tone background that spills into the frames in order to mimic Google’s darker glass portion that previously surrounded the camera and the fingerprint scanner, both of which are omitted from the frame. Google’s signature ‘G’ made the cut, however, helping accentuate the designs.

The first generation of Pixel devices came in three different variants, comprised of Very Silver, Really Blue, and Quite Black. The second generation dulled things down to Kinda Blue, while still offering Just Black and a Clearly White version too. It’s not certain what the Pixel 3 versions will be called, but it looks like it will debut Silver, Black and a never-before-seen Green variant.

As it stands, we know almost everything there is to know about the Pixel 3 smartphones, expecting them to land with a Snapdragon 845, Adreno 630 GPU and 4GB RAM. The rear snapper is believed to forgo a dual lens design by sticking with a single camera, while selfies will benefit from a dual front-facing lens. The price remains a mystery, however it is expected to climb ever-higher as premium devices.

Due to the controversially thick notch on the leaked Pixel 3 XL, some fans have clung onto the conspiracy theory that Google has a third entry that is untouched by leaks. It’s almost a certainty that the Pixel 3 XL we’ve seen will be a device launched, but suggestive evidence has led to the belief that it might not be the flagship. Google Japan’s prominent three colours debuted could subtly feed into that narrative, however it’s more than likely following Google’s trend of releasing three variants on launch day.

KitGuru Says: I’m not the biggest fan of that notch, but Google could capitalise on Apple’s disappointing showcase provided it hits the right price point. People are still going to hope for the notchless third iteration, but it is a stretch. Are you intrigued to see what Google has in store this October?

As the second mouse from Roccat's updated Kone series to hit our labs, the Kone Pure looks to offer the same excellent gaming performance as its sibling – the Kone XTD – while reducing the physical dimensions and retail price. Does the Kone Pure have what it takes to impress as much as the ‘Must Have' Kone XTD did?

Packing an 8200 DPI Pro-Aim laser R3 sensor and a 32-bit Turbo Core V2 72MHz processor into a form factor that is 91% the size of the Kone[+], Roccat's Kone Pure targets gamers that lust for a mouse that has the ability to offer outstanding performance while maintaining a sleek, user-friendly style.

Accompanying the Kone Pure during testing will be Roccat's Hiro gaming mouse pad. The surface's large 350 x 250 x 2.5mm size and vulcanised silicone surface give gamers a good degree of free movement that is required when contesting at the highest levels.

Is the Kone Pure a worthy addition to Roccat's flagship series? And is the Hiro gaming surface its perfect partner?

Specifications:

  • Pro-Aim Laser Sensor R3 with up to 8200dpi
  • 1000Hz polling rate
  • 1ms response time
  • 30G acceleration
