We shouldn’t have to wait too much longer for Intel to launch its 10th generation desktop Core CPU line up and it seems as though motherboard manufacturers are putting the final touches on product pages ready for the big launch.

Rumours have been circulating for a while that Intel will launch its 10th generation Comet Lake-S desktop processors sometime this month, whether that has been pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic we will have to see. However, if the Asus product pages are anything to go by, it looks like the release could be edging closer since the motherboard manufacturer leaked a couple of its own upcoming motherboards for the new Intel desktop platform this week.

It appears Asus inadvertently posted images on its product pages of a couple of its own impending LGA1200 Z490 motherboards. The Asus Z490 Prime motherboard page was spotted by the guys over at VideoCardz, but Asus quickly removed the page not long afterwards. The apparent slip up seems like an accidental mishap at Asus since the page link should have directed us to the current crop of Z390 Prime boards and not Z490.

The two boards that were leaked by Asus include the PRIME Z490-P, a standard ATX size cost-effective motherboard aimed at the lower end of the market. This could be Asus budget Z490 offering with minimal VRM cooling and a lack of premium features like an I/O shroud, M.2 heat spreaders and such like.

The other Asus PRIME Z490-A leaked motherboard seems to be a more premium offering with larger VRM cooling, built-in I/O shroud, shield plate and multiple M.2 drive heat spreaders. As we can see from the images, the Z490-P has just two PCIe x16 slots, whereas the Z490-A has four as well as three x1 slots. Both boards seem to lack any Wi-Fi and have single ethernet ports, while the PRIME Z490-A also seems to have RGB lighting onboard too.

The post Intel Comet Lake-S desktop processors spotted for sale first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Earlier this week, details of Intel’s 10th generation desktop F-series processor SKUs were leaked out online and it seems that now there has even been listings of the new processors spotted for sale in some European online stores.

Even though Intel has still not officially given us a firm release date or a hint of pricing for its new 10th generation desktop processors codenamed Comet Lake-S, it is expected that they will hit the online shelves sometime within the next eight weeks. However, it seems as though a couple of Czech/Slovakian distributors may have jumped the gun and listed the new CPUs for sale already.

The listings were first noticed by serial CPU leaks specialist momomo_us on Twitter a couple of days ago and include new Pentium, Core i3 and Core i5 processors. Pricing in the premature sale listing didn’t include VAT and whether the prices accurately represent what they will be at the official launch remains to be seen.

However, it could give us an indication that when the processors finally release in the UK, the Intel Core i5 10600 non-K version may be priced around £260-£280, which is similar to how previous generation Coffee Lake processors were priced at launch. The most glaring omission from the listing was the missing core i7 and core i9 SKUs and there was no sign of any unlocked K series CPUs listed either.

We assume that the listing has now been taken down, but since a retailer has now actually listed them for sale, whether this was on purpose or not, it gives us a good indication that the official release is very close and could be a little earlier than some may have been expecting. Since this is still not an official listing, we could see prices adjust depending on the situation at launch.

The post Intel Comet Lake-S 10th Gen F-series processor specs revealed first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Even though there has still been no official word from Intel regarding a firm date for when its 10th generation Comet Lake-S series desktop processors will finally launch, it feels as though it is getting ever closer as each day passes, more specifications and sightings of the CPUs leak out in the media.

One of the latest 10th gen Intel desktop processors leaks to surface this week was the news of the return to F series SKUs. Intel used the F marque on its previous generation of desktop CPUs to describe a processor that has its iGPU chopped off, with processors such as the Coffee Lake Core i3-8100KF, i7-9700KF, i9-9900KF and so on. It looks as though Intel’s 10th generation Comet Lake-S F-series will include the 65W Core i5-10400F, i7-10700F, i9-10900F and 125W Core i5-10600KF, i7-10700KF and i9-10900KF SKUs.

This was first picked up on by Informatica Cero who published an image of an Intel 10th Gen Core presentation slide which was actually part of a presentation in December 2019, however, this slide has only just surfaced online this week. Usually, these F series processors would be gobbled up by gamers and enthusiasts who use a discreet graphics card in their systems and therefore wouldn’t necessarily need a CPU with a built-in iGPU, saving a little on the cost of the processor.

According to Intel, the F-series processors use exactly the same quality silicon to the non-F processors, the iGPU has been chopped off simply because there would have been some kind of fault in the iGPU during manufacture that rendered it useless. Rather than just throwing the processors with a faulty iGPU in the bin, Intel sells them at a slightly reduced price. According to an Overclock3D report, 9th generation F series processors sold for $25 less on average compared to non-F variants.

According to the recently leaked presentation slide, it seems as though this strategy will be implemented again by Intel since the F series processors are listed as having the same core frequencies and core/thread counts as non-F models. However, Intel has still not yet released official price information, so for now, we are not sure how much will be saved by purchasing a 10th generation F series processor.

While AMD has been busy launching desktop, HEDT and mobile processors in volume over the last six or seven months, it feels like we have been waiting an eternity for Intel to officially unveil its next-generation desktop CPUs. We have heard plenty of rumours over the past few months, however, there is still some uncertainty of when the new Intel 10th generation desktop line up will become available.

The latest Intel 10th gen desktop rumour comes from serial Twitter leaks specialist and PC enthusiast TUM_APISAK, which apparently shows a Futuremark screenshot of a system that contains an Intel Comet Lake-S 10th generation Core i7-10700K processor, confirming the base and boost core frequency along with the core count.

TUM_APISAK revealed the potential Core i7-10700K core frequencies on Twitter running in a system containing an ECS Z490H6-A2 motherboard. The reported stock core speed shows a respectable 3.8GHz frequency, while the maximum turbo boost frequency is listed at almost 5.3GHz (5,291 MHz) which sounds like it will be pretty handy for gamers, especially if the CPU can be overclocked to run that at that speed across all cores.

As well as the impressive core frequency, the Intel Core i7 10700K features 8 logical cores and HyperThreading to enable 16 threads, the same as Intel’s current 9th generation powerhouse, the Core i9-9900K, which is still regarded as one of, if not the best CPU choice for gamers. It is likely the Core i7-10700K will compete with the likes of the AMD Ryzen 3700X and 3800X processors, not only in terms of specification but it may hopefully come in at a similar price, although Intel is yet to announce its official 10th gen desktop pricing structure.

KitGuru says: Intel is expected to release it’s 10th generation desktop processors around April this year, it will be interesting to see how the new line up stacks up against AMD’s latest Ryzen CPUs and whether we will see much performance improvement in gaming. What do you guys think of this potential Core i7 10700K with a turbo frequency of 5.3GHz? and what do you expect in terms of performance from Intel 10th generation desktop processors?

Over the last couple of weeks, we have seen snippets of information from motherboard vendors to suggest that 10th generation Intel desktop processors and its new Z490 platform may be on the horizon. Rumours were stepped up again yesterday when it was noted that ASRock has listed its potential Z490 motherboard range in an official piece of software.

Just last week, the potential Z490 motherboard lineup from MSI was spotted on the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) database, which fuelled rumours that Intel was close to launching its 10th generation Comet Lake-S desktop processors. According to ComputerBase, Intel’s motherboard partners are ready for Comet Lake-S, however, its is rumoured that the upcoming Intel 10-core part isn’t running a smooth as expected, so a release is being held back until Intel irons out any problems.

While the EEC database can sometimes throw up hardware listings that never come to fruition, official motherboard manufacturer software is usually pretty accurate when it comes to listing new products. That is exactly what the guys over at VideoCardz noticed yesterday when they were browsing through the files of the latest version of ASRock’s Polychrome Sync application.

During a simple search of the files from the new ASRock Polychrome Sync, VideoCardz found references to a stack of new potential motherboard SKUs from ASRock, with Z490, H470 and W480 mentioned in the file names, which are the expected chipsets to support Intel’s 10th generation processors and could mean we are getting closer to a Comet Lake-S release.

The ASRock Polychrome Sync files show a range of Z490 and H470 motherboards with the usual Taichi, Steel Legend and PRO titles we would expect from ASRock. However, there was one new addition to the Creator range, this looks like it will not be Z490 chipset based but rather the W480 which is expected to be the new chipset that powers workstation systems for Intel’s next-generation Comet Lake-S mainstream desktop processors.

Just a few days ago, the potential specification of Intel’s 10th generation Core series desktop processors were leaked online and now an alleged internal Intel document appears to show the performance of the upcoming flagship ten-core Intel Core i9-10900K CPU.

The alleged internal Intel slide was originally leaked online by ITHome and then shared by Tom’s Hardware. The image shows the potential performance of the upcoming 10-core, 20-thread Comet Lake-S flagship Core i9-10900K processor compared against the current 9th generation Intel Core i9-9900K CPU.

The slide claims that performance comparisons were measured in the same chassis and both processors are said to be tested with all security patches available as of 4th November 2019. Performance comparisons of the two CPU’s include results from benchmarks such as Cinebench R15 and SYSmark 2014 SE, among others.

According to the benchmark results in the leaked slides, the Intel Core i9-10900k could offer anything from 2% to 30% performance increase over the Intel Core i9-9900k. In the Cinebench R15 benchmark the Core i9-10900K is up to 26% faster than the Core i9-9900k based on the results. When all benchmarks are considered, the Core i9-10900K could produce an average of 13% performance improvement over the current 9th generation Core i9-9900K processor.

Intel is due to hold a press conference at CES on Monday 6th January where we could learn more about the upcoming 10th generation Core desktop processors. Intel will be live streaming the event from CES, so if you are interested in what 10th generation Intel desktop processors have to offer, it might be worth checking out.

A new leak regarding the release date of Comet Lake-S CPUs and Z490 motherboards has been revealed. According to industry insiders, the upcoming Intel CPUs and respective motherboards will release in April 2020. Like any other rumour, this should be taken with a grain of salt.

As usual, while the Z490 chipset will spearhead the Comet Lake-S release, it's expected that other chipsets will be later available: the W480, the B460, and the H410. The 400-series platform seems to be very similar to the current 300-series platform, but there are some new features while others were improve, including:

  • Up To 10 processor cores
  • Up To 30 PCH-H I/O lanes for port flexibility
  • Up To 40 PCIe 3.0 Lanes (16 CPU, up to 24 PCH)
  • Integrated + Discrete Intel Wireless-AC (Wi-Fi/BT CNVi) Support
  • Intel Wi-Fi 6 (Gig+) Support
  • Enhanced Core and memory overclock
  • Integrated USB 3.2 Gen 2×1 (10 Gb/s) support
  • Programmable (Open FW SDK) Quad-Core Audio DSP
  • C10 & S0ix Support for Modern Standby
  • New LGA1200 socket with improved power delivery

Although the upcoming LGA1200 socket has the same dimensions as the currently used LGA1151, there will be no backward compatibility because the LGA1200 socket “keying has shifted to the left side”. Fortunately, this won't change the coolers' compatibility, as the thermal solution retention is the same. This new socket also comes with a higher pin-count package.

Regarding the upcoming CPUs, it looks like that HyperThreading will be a standard – the Core i3 will be 4C/8T, the Core i5 will carry 6C/12T, the Core i7 will have 8C/16T, and the Core i9 will boast 10C/20T.

If the leaked release date is correct, maybe there will be more information about the Comet Lake-S platform at CES 2020 in January.

KitGuru says: Are you expecting to jump on the Intel 400-series platform? What do you think of the increase in core and thread count?
