The Cooler Master Case Mod World Series has come to an end with the reveal of this year's winners. The contest had six categories: Best Scratch Build, Best Tower Mod, Best Non-PC Mod, Best Use of Reusable Materials, Best Art Direction and Best Craftsmanship.

Starting with the Best Scratch Build (also Best Craftsmanship), we have Keir Graham's PowerCore construct, a unique bespoke liquid-cooled system with a brilliant design. This year's Best Tower Mod category winner was Timeplay, who impressed the jury with a stunning Cosmos C700M mod (C700MI) that reimagined the iconic full tower case in an ITX form factor.

The Best Non-PC Mod winner was also Timeplay, but with two NR200 cases turned into speakers (NR200CH). The Best Use of Reusable Materials award went to Ghost Customs with its Ghost system. Lastly, the Best Art Direction prize went to JMDF Mods with a robot-looking system named Killer Man.

Cooler Master paid out $22,500 in the prize pool, which is split across the six categories. There was also an extra $5000 reward for the best use of reusable or biodegradable materials in any of the categories as part of the company's commitment to environmental sustainability.

Following on from the Acer Thronos and Razer’s Project Brooklyn, Cooler Master has become the latest company to announce a ‘gaming throne’ designed around full immersion. The Cooler Master Orb X is a uniquely designed, multi-purpose gaming pod aimed at both gamers and professionals.

The Cooler Master Orb X has a semi-enclosed design, featuring an automatic shuttle dome, that when closed, creates a “private space” for users. There's also support for 3x 27-inch monitors or a single 49-inch monitor, so you can be surrounded by displays.

The included ergonomic chair is fully adjustable, offering six ways to calibrate the seat to the user's liking, including the lumbar and headrest. On the back of the gaming pod, users will find a hidden compartment to hide the system or console, offering a clean aesthetic. Additionally, it features a 2.1ch immersive sound system.

As per the images, the gaming pod will be surrounded by RGB strips that should be customisable and feature a desk where you can place a mouse and keyboard. Moreover, it looks like Orb X will be available in black and white.

Cooler Master expects to release the Orb X by December 2021, priced around $12,000-$14,000. Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru says: Considering its price, the Cooler Master Orb X isn’t going to be available in or sell in large quantities. However, based on previous battle station-like systems released, the Cooler Master Orb X seems the most feature-packed, which is reflected in the price.

CoolerMaster is adding two new cases to its vast portfolio – the MasterBox 540 for RGB-lovers and the MasterBox MB600L V2 for those who prefer a minimalistic design.

The CoolerMaster MasterBox 540 has a unique ARGB ether front panel to create a dazzling display of colours. Users can choose to customise the RGB lighting through the included controller or sync it with the motherboard and other components. The front panel comes with a USB-C 3.2 (Gen 2) port, 2x USB-A 3.2 (Gen 1) ports, and a 3.5mm headset jack.

The top panel can be removed to improve access to the system, which is particularly useful when you have to install an AIO cooler. The tempered glass side panel can also be easily removed thanks to its screwless and tool-free design. On the inside, users can install 410mm long GPUs, 165mm tall CPU coolers, 2x 360mm radiators, and up to 7x 120mm fans.

Featuring a more subtle design, the MasterBox MB600L V2 features a brushed front panel with side mesh intakes and CoolerMaster's hexagon logo. If you install an RGB fan on the front panel behind the hexagon, the colours shine through. There will be a version with ODD support and another without, where the first is slightly deeper. Moreover, there will be a tempered glass side panel and steel side panel model.

The MasterBox MB600L V2 offers plenty of support for cooling components, allowing users to install up to 6x fans and front and top radiators, although radiator sizes differ on whether you pick up the ODD version or the standard version. Inside the case, there's also support for 400mm long GPUs and 161mm tall coolers. Users can also remove the included HDD cage to increase compatibility with longer PSUs.

Both cases are available now. The MasterBox 540 is priced at £109.99, and the MasterBox MB600L V2 at £49.99 with a steel panel and £54.99 with a tempered glass panel.

Cooler Master is about to launch a new edition of the legendary Hyper 212 cooler. The new dual-fan Hyper 212 ARGB Turbo is similar to the Hyper 212 LED Turbo, with the main difference being the addition of addressable RGB fans.

Featuring 2x Sickleflow 120mm ARGB fans with support for 16.7 million colours, the fans' RGB lighting can be synchronised using your motherboard's RGB software, with support for Asus Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light Sync and ASRock Polychrome Sync. Additionally, an ARGB controller comes included, just in case your motherboard doesn't support ARGB.

The fans spin between 650-1,800RPM (±10%), generating up to 61CFM of air volume and up to 27dBA of noise. The fans' rated MTBF is 160000 hours and connect to the motherboard through a 4-pin (PWM) connector. Using direct touch technology, the 4 asymmetrical heat pipes transfer the heat from the plate to the aluminium heatsink, which is then cooled by the two fans.

Measuring 120x109x15mm, Cooler Master claims the Hyper 212 ARGB Turbo can be easily mounted to your CPU because of its simple installation process. Socket compatibility includes Intel's LGA 2066/2011(v3)/1366/1156/1155/1151/1150/775 and AMD's AM4/AM3+/AM2(+)/FM2(+)/FM1.

Pricing and availability details have not yet been shared.. You can learn more about the Hyper 212 ARGB Turbo CPU cooler HERE.

Announced back at CES 2020, Cooler Master is now set to officially release the MasterBox MB311L ARGB alongside the MasterBox MB320L ARGB. Both cases are very similar, with one key difference being the front panel: the MB311L uses a fine mesh front panel, while the MB320L has a ‘DarkMirror' front panel.

While the MB311L design focuses on delivering optimised airflow, the MB320L is slightly more closed off. The MB311L's airflow capabilities come from its ‘Fine Mesh' front panel that is complemented by two honeycomb vents on each side. The MB320L uses a ‘DarkMirror' panel which is made of smoked acrylic. According to Cooler Master, this will “sharpen the contrast of the ARGB fans”, while the two honeycomb vents on the sides should still allow enough airflow.

Both cases support Micro ATX and Mini ITX motherboards and come with two pre-installed 120mm ARGB fans, alongside a HDD cage with two 2.5″/3.5″ bays. They also support up to 3x120mm fans on the front, 2x 140mm fans on the top, 1x 120mm fan on the rear, and have an extra 2x 2.5-inch bays. There's clearance for a CPU cooler with a maximum height of 166mm, a PSU with 140mm or 325mm without the HDD cage, and a GPU with a maximum length of 344mm.

The I/O panel for both cases is composed of 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1, 1x 3.5mm Audio Jack, 1x 3.5mm Mic Jack, an ARGB 2-to-3 splitter, and an ARGB Controller (only for the S02 versions). There are dust filters installed on the front, top and bottom vents, and both cases come with a tempered side glass panel and a PSU shroud.

Both MasterBox 311L ARGB and the MasterBox 320L ARGB are available to preorder for $59.99, and will launch on the 18th of February. If you want to know more about the MasterBox 311L click HERE. For for information on the MasterBox 320L, click HERE.

Usually, when the word Mirage is mentioned, it’s swiftly followed by being headshot multiple times in Counter-Strike Global Offensive. That aside, it is actually the name of a new All-In-One Liquid CPU cooler from Cooler Master. Its full name is the Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240P Mirage – not exactly an easy one to remember! Just how good is it for £139.99?

The Mirage is just one of a growing number of 240mm RGB All-In-One Liquid CPU coolers currently available from Cooler Master. Right now, there are a whopping seven 240mm All-In-Ones to choose from across Cooler Master's current line-up, which all have RGB lighting in some form.

With a current price tag of £139.99 from online retailers, it places the ML240P Mirage in a market full of very popular All-In-One liquid coolers. So what could Cooler Master have possibly thought up now to set the Mirage apart from the rest?

The post BitFenix Enso Mesh Case Review – The King of Budget Cases? first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
With its current price at around £85 from online retailers, the BitFenix Enso Mesh is placed towards the top end of the budget PC case market. But will its stylish looks, tempered glass panel and RGB goodness be enough for it to be crowned the king of budget cases? Over recent months, we have seen manufacturers implementing mesh into their front panel designs. Leading names such as CoolerMaster, Fractal Designs and Corsair, to name but a few, have mesh fronted cases on the market.

The BitFenix Enso Mesh has also adopted the front mesh panel design (hence the name). As we can see, the Enso Mesh comes from the BitFenix current line of Enso case platforms. The obvious and only difference from the original Enso, is the front panel has now changed from a solid plastic panel, to the hopefully free-flowing plastic and mesh design. The Enso (non-mesh version) suffered badly with high temperatures due to its air-flow restricted design. We hope this mesh solution will help considerably with airflow and therefore reduce the temperature of components while the system is under load.

It has been just over a year since we first saw a demo of Cooler Master's ‘Aimpad' technology, and today we finally have our hands on a keyboard that features the new tech. Aimpad takes 8 keys on the mechanical MK850 keyboard and, using infrared lighting, it allows them to be pressure sensitive. The analog control is similar to that of a console controller, allowing gamers to make slight adjustments to speed or direction.

This all sounds very exciting as the MK850 could be the start of the next evolution of gaming keyboards. But does it actually give an advantage or is it just a gimmick? And do the other features justify the hefty £200 asking price?

Design and build quality:

The MK850 from Cooler Master is a full size mechanical keyboard. With the removable wrist rest it has quite a large footprint sat on my desk. The wrist rest itself attaches to the keyboard via a set of reasonably strong magnets that do a good job of holding it in place. It's made of mostly plastic but is quite attractive to look at with the faux leather surface and the hexagonal Cooler Master logo embossed into the centre. It was very comfortable to use as the entire surface works like a padded cushion, and I think it is a really nice addition to this keyboard.

The front of the keyboard does look rather premium with its brushed aluminium faceplate that creates a nice contrast against the matte black keycaps. You also get the option of some additional eye catching keycaps – a whole bunch of them in fact! There's 18 of them to kit out the WASD, QERF, M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, ESC and arrow keys in Cooler Master purple.

The overall design of the MK850 is very sleek and the neutral colour scheme means it should look at home with any set up. Each of the corners are squared off in a way that is very reminiscent of the Cooler Master logo and the entire chassis is quite thin and low profile as the keys are raised off the body, floating keycap style. This allows the backlight to shine out and create a nice reflection off that brushed aluminium.

The body in general doesn’t feel quite as solid as I was expecting probably because there is quite a bit of plastic but it still maintains a premium aesthetic and it feels sturdy to type on with little flex to the body.

Functionality and features:

Across the top of the keyboard you have a little bit of extra functionality with 2 scroll wheels on this keyboard. By default, one works as volume control, the other changes the RGB backlight brightness. To the right of the wheels you find a set of dedicated media keys and a button that immediately shuts off the RGB backlighting for a more stealthy approach. I was disappointed that these dedicated keys don't light up like the rest of the keyboard. Not just for aesthetics, but it also makes them a little harder to find quickly in low light.

You’ll also find 2 USB ports which is super handy for plugging in a USB stick or other peripherals. I was surprised to find that this keyboard only has the 1 USB connector which is beneficial for not clogging up the USB ports on the back of your PC, and even better is that the cable is not only braided but also removable and it uses a USB C connector! Thank you to Cooler Master for finally being one of the first to move away from Micro USB.

Flipping the keyboard over, the back is mostly made out of plastic but I really like the different cable routing options on this keyboard. There are 3 different slots that allow for different cable management solutions depending on your desired desk layout. Changing the height of the MK850 is easily achieved with the two large flip out feet. I really welcome their chunky form factor as they feel very stable with no risk of sliding around or flipping down suddenly in the heat of battle.

I don't think it will be going away any time soon so of course the MK850 comes with fully customisable RGB lighting. It comes through at a decent brightness that shows up even in direct sunlight and you also get a little bonus RGB strip along the bottom of the keyboard. Although, unfortunately, this strip does get covered if you opt to use the wrist rest. The RGB lighting has multiple lighting modes and effects with loads of possibilities. It can all be adjusted using the Cooler Master Portal software or the onboard on-the-fly system.

I think this keyboard has more onboard functionality that I have ever seen on a keyboard before. It's almost to the point of being a bit over complicated but it’s great for those of you that really hate downloading software as with the FN key you can literally do everything. It does definitely take some learning but you can switch & reset profiles, record macros, lock the windows key, switch Aimpad profiles, and not just scroll through RGB effects but create and edit them in detail.

What does slightly bug me though is that the software and keyboard seem to work independently. Any macros recorded don’t show up in the software and the same goes for any RGB lighting changes. Switching between different Aimpad profiles or changing the sensitivity doesn’t seem to have much effect either. I would prefer if the keyboard and software worked together in harmony.

The mechanical switches used are Cherry MX Red switches. To me this makes sense as they are very popular and great for gaming. Part of this decision is also due to the Aimpad technology, which is not able to work with a tactile switch and the Cherry MX Reds are of course linear.

The keys are raised off the body of the keyboard but I didn’t find them to have much wobble and the spacing and layout is pretty standard. The font on each keycap is clear and easy to read but keycaps themselves are pretty basic. This isn't normally an issue but considering the high price point I would like to see Cooler Master supply their flagship keyboard with superior PBT keycaps.

A few weeks ago we reviewed Cooler Master's new pair of 120mm and 140mm MasterFans. However, that review also doubled as a sneak peek at another upcoming product- the MasterCase Pro 5 NVIDIA Edition, which we can now tell you a bit more about as the case has launched today. The MasterCase Pro 5 is a mid-sized modular tower featuring Cooler Master's standout FreeForm modular system.

The Modular system allows users to expand the case by replacing ceertain elements, including drive cages, top panels, the case door and more, giving unparalleled control over both form and function. With this system in-place, this case can support a variety of configurations ranging from home servers and water-cooled workstations to high-end gaming systems with multiple GPUs.

Being a gamer is not necessarily cheap. If you want to do it on a console, it is going to cost you a few hundred on the latest system and then at least another triple digit figure to get all the controllers, games and accessories. While gaming PCs are a lot more bang for buck these days, their peripherals can cost even more, with some gaming mice and keyboards setting you back over £100 each. Not so in the case of the Octane set from Cooler Master which hopes to make gaming peripherals affordable for everyone.

But as always, the question is, does a price drop mean the quality suffers?

CoolChip Technologies, a startup from Massachusetts, promises a breakthrough in computer cooling by reinventing the way modern cooling systems work. While the tech itself seems to be simple enough and may bring in a lot of benefits, it requires major changes in the way how computer coolers are made.

Air-cooling remains the most popular method of cooling chips inside personal computers. The principle of air-cooling is simple: heat is taken off a chip to a heatsink and then the radiator is cooled down using airflow generated by the fan. Air coolers are made by tens of companies, are affordable, efficient, widely available and reliable.

At present, there are several ways to improve performance of computer cooling: by using higher-speed fans, larger heatinks, hybrid cooling systems or unconventional cooling technologies (peltier, phase-change, liquid nitrogen/helium, etc.). All of the aforementioned technologies either cost a lot, produce too much noise, require too lot of space, or are just not reliable or not practical to use.

coolchip_prototype

CoolChip Technologies proposes to improve efficiency of air-cooling by using fans as heatsinks. CoolChip calls its approach “kinetic cooling technology” and claims that it is 35 – 40 per cent more efficient compared to conventional coolers. The principle behind kinetic cooling technology (KCT) resembles that of traditional air coolers: the heat from a chip is transferred to a copper baseplate that (unlike usually) does not have fins. Instead, a metallic fan (impeller) is located just several microns above the baseplate and absorbs its heat because of normal convection. Since the fan is rotating, it naturally takes the heat away. Moreover, given that it is easier to cool-down a fan that absorbs heat instead of cooling down a heatsink, the KCT assembly is more efficient than regular coolers.

coolchip_prototype_1

The assembly of a KCT cooling system requires high-precision mechanics that is akin to assembly of a hard disk drive a couple of decades ago. The flying height – the distance between the disk read/write head on a hard drive and the platter – is just three nanometers today, but many years ago it was several microns. CoolChip wants to use similarly precise technologies for cooling chips down.

coolchip_prototype_3

The core advantage of contemporary cooling solutions for personal computers is their easy manufacturability and low costs. High-precision mechanics necessary for CoolChip’s cooler assembly is hardly a low cost technology, advanced manufacturing tools are needed to produce KCT-based coolers, so many suppliers of PC cooling systems will not be able to take advantage of the tech. Moreover, it is barely as reliable as today’s coolers because it can be damaged by an impact during installation, handling or usage. In fact, in order to prevent damages caused by coolers themselves because of thermal expansion, special metal alloys will be needed, something that will further increase the costs of coolers powered by the CoolChip’s tech. Finally, the micron-wide gap between the copper basepate and the impeller as well as spaces between fins will inevitably become clogged with dust, dramatically reducing efficiency of the whole solution.

coolchip_prototype_2

But despite of all the risks and potential disadvantages kinetic cooling technology brings, it theoretically remains a very efficient way of cooling down chips. As a result, Cooler Master and Microsoft Corp. recently got interested in the KCT, reports TechCrunch. Therefore, the tech has potential to actually make it to real products.

KitGuru Says: Using a fan as a heatsink seems to be a nice idea in general. However, a micron gap between the fan and the baseplate seems like a very unreliable thing. While it is possible to widen the gap, too much air between the metals means that efficiency will get worse since air is not a good conductor. All-in-all, the time will tell whether kinetic cooling technology makes sense or not.

While they are famous for huge chassis like the Cosmos II and Storm Trooper etc, KitGuru learned up at Multiplay i53 that there is a definite increase in interest around small form factor chassis among gamers. Chris Gough explains the draw.

While Chris didn't actually say that Cooler Master is selling less large chassis, he was keen to point out that recent improvements in PC hardware are making smaller and smaller LAN machines viable.

KitGuru says: With the latest Intel chips, more powerful APUs and the advent of Maxwell, smaller LAN gaming rigs could become more popular in 2015.

Whether you botched it with a roller or made your best effort using a primed surface and layers of spray paint, it's unlikely that you will have managed better than this system from Utopia Computers on the Cooler Master stand at Multiplay i53.

Getting someone to say “I love you” – even if they don't necessarily mean it – is a pretty decent marketing play. One that Cooler Master had going in full effect up at Multiplay's Insomnia i53 LAN gaming event at the massive Ricoh Arena in Coventry over the weekend. KitGuru cameras were on hand to capture the declarations.

Essentially, choose one of 3 keyboard technologies and, using a custom built app, type “I love Cooler Master” as fast as you can. Winner takes all.

KitGuru says: We heard that the first person onto the Olympic scoreboard was an Overclockers.co.uk marketing guru – who set such a fast time that there was a chance it would not/could not be beaten. A quick call to the developers was required in order to remove the spurious winner. Nice try Mark!

Update 26th November: Cooler Master have replied saying that Marks score needed to be removed due to his being a cyborg and his implants giving him an unfair advantage, the majority of players were human and we needed to ensure an even playing field.

Everyone hears music slightly differently and we all have very specific preferences when it comes to how audio is delivered.

That said, as long as there is clarity, what could be better than access to serious volume and thumping bass?

Generating the perfect combo, is something that Coolermaster scientists have been working on.

The result is the company's latest set of earphones, complete with a bass-volume-dial on each earpiece.

Talk about fine tuning the control.

Anyone who's owned one of Cooler Master's awesome Cosmos chassis will, at some point, have wondered why they didn't make a smaller one. One that would fit easily into any space. Well, with the launch of the Cosmos SE, that wait is over. We're happy.

If a chassis won't take an E-ATX mainboard, how many people will that really affect? We guess a very small part of the population.

The new Cosmos SE is an updated and smaller version of KitGuru's ‘Chassis of the Year 2012'.

It has a polymer appearance, with a mesh front bezel, steel case body and aluminium struts.

The case caters for ATX, micro-ATX and Mini-ITX motherboards (can you just imagine the loneliness of a Mini-ITX board in this chassis!).

There are three 5.25″ bays on the front panel, and 8x 3.5″ bays – alongside 15 slots for SSD drives. OK, so this is ‘small' in the way that the Tardis is small.

We managed to chat with Cooler Master's expert in these areas, Raymon Wu. He told us, “It can support 360mm radiator on the front, a 240/280mm radiator on the top and a 120mm radiator on the rear for those water cooling enthusiasts. The maximum graphics card length is limited to 390mm, and the clearance for CPU cooler is 165mm”.

We're not sure that you can describe 390mm as a limitation for graphic cards in the general sense – it's enough to handle a Titan with many centimeters to spare.

Asked about the clever airflow design that is a fundamental part of the chassis layout, Ray told us, “We focus on cooling so the our customers don't have to”.

Nice.

We love the way that Cooler Master has combined elegance with a sinister edge – like looking into the eyes of a gorgeously dangerous woman – especially with the deep red tones that permeate the shadows within.

It's easy to be proud when your company just delivered something like this.

KitGuru says: Can't wait for these to arrive in a couple of months' time.

The Cooler Master HAF XB Mid-Tower chassis is part of the ‘High Air Flow' range of cases, but it is crafted into a new and special form factor. Is this a case you need to be shortlisting for a new system build?

The Cooler Master HAF XB is eyecatching. At 330 mm it is just a bit taller than the length of a ruler but can cope with all standard sized motherboards and components. The HAF XB should also offer great thermal performance in both its Mid-Tower Chassis set-up and the Test Bench set-up – great for enthusiasts and overclockers.

Aiming to stamp their authority in a rapidly-growing market, the trio of ‘Seidon' units represents Cooler Master's first range of globally-available, new-generation all-in-one liquid CPU coolers. Can the mid-range Seidon 120M prove itself as a viable competitor to the likes of Corsair's H60 and Antec's Kuhler 620?

Not to be outdone by Corsair, Antec, NZXT and many other competing brands, Cooler Master has released the Seidon 120M as a direct competitor to each companies mid-range offering. Utilising a 27mm-thick radiator and a 120mm, 2400 RPM fan, the Seidon 120M aims to offer balanced cooling performance with the added advantages of an All-In-One (AIO) liquid CPU Cooler.

Can the Seidon 120M prove itself as a God of the mid-range, All-in-One liquid CPU cooler sea? Or does it struggle to stay afloat in the ocean of competitors?

As the final stragglers made their way to the huge campsite, pitched their tents and lugged their weapons of destruction to the multiple halls of the Telford International Centre, KitGuru took a step back to consider the scale of this event in 2012. We must confess, we were simply not equipped to shoot the halls in all their glory. Read on for the gory details of our optical failings.

For many moons, the world plus dog was happy with a 50mm lens. Then the optics went a little nuts. Paparazzi across the planet demand more and more telephoto, while naturists [Naturalists? – Ed] demand powerful macro zoom lenses, so they can shoot smaller and smaller objects. Then, in the middle, you have the wedding/school photographers with their un-naturally wide lenses.

This what we should have brought to Multiplay i46, not a 24mm lens.

It was just not wide enough. Not by a mile.

Here are some amazing shots that show the scale of Mutiplay's hugely successful i46 event. Where necessary, we have had to PhotoChop several shots together – or it would not have been possible to bring you the full enormity of what we witnessed.

Just ONE of the main battle halls at Multiplay i46. Yep. You heard us right. There was more than one of these monster halls in action over the August Bank Holiday weekend. With almost $30,000 at stake - no wonder.

.

Eagle-eye view of a battle hall, courtesy of an 'Access All Areas' Pass. It's not Dreamhack. Not yet.

.

Teams that get to the finals will be on this gorgeous stage, with thousands cheering them on to victory

.

In the 10 years since we've been visiting Multiplay's Insomnia Events - this was the BEST exhibitor hall yet

.

Craig and Stewart Fletcher are the gaming gurus behind Multiplay and the 46 LAN gaming events they've successfully delivered. Stewart's older, so he uses the traditional 'cup' method for ingesting alcohol. Judging from the thick tube bulging under his t-shirt, we suspect that Craig's mainlining Bombardier. Hurrah!

.

The famous Multiplay raffle was alive and well at i46. Top prizes from Asus, Gigabyte, Thermaltake, Cooler Master, BeQuiet, Sapphire & others (worth £1,000s) and each will be won with a £1 ticket. Get in there!

.

One of many Nom Nom mountains on sale at Multiplay i46. What's really scary is that Multiplay sells this stuff for very little profit - it's all about keeping the gamers fuelled

.

While Multiplay i46 provides a warm and welcoming environment for all races, colours, creeds and sexes - you have to say that diabetics will probably view it as a torture paradise. Nom Nom Mountain II

.

The awesome power of Will Lowther manning the t-shirt stand. If KitGuru had to buy one, which would it be?

.

Yep. At heart, we just want to hear distant church bells toll in the misty morning as a dead black swan floats down stream. If you're not sure of the reference, you need to pick up a copy of Sabbath's first album.

.
So, there you have it. Having taken over several rugby pitches for their campsite, Multiplay has squeezed thousands of hard core gamers, overclockers and enthusiasts into Telford's International Centre for many days – with the promise of fun, friendship and around $30,000 in prize money. Without doubt, this is the best Insomnia event ever. Which was nice.

Headsets are an integral part of any gamers arsenal, and the competition has been fierce in 2012. CM Storm have already produced an impressive gaming headset the CM Storm Sirus 5.1. It even seems the company have improved on a few things we didn't like, as the new CM Storm Sonuz is said to be lightweight and features larger ear pads.

Unfortunately, the CM Storm Sonuz doesn't support native surround sound and several of the Sirus key features, but it does boast larger 53mm drivers, which could improve sound quality. Additionally, the Sonuz is targeted at a much wider audience, being half the price of the Sirus.

After the success of the original Cooler Master CM 690 II it is no great surprise that they have released a new and improved version. The reason for the success of the 690 II is that Cooler Master were able to fit full tower features into a mid tower chassis while maintaining a reasonable price point. Cooler Master and Thermaltake have many years combined experience in the cooling sector and today we are looking at two of their latest cooling platforms designed for hot running, performance oriented laptops. Both coolers are priced between £30 and £40 and feature adjustable height settings with a focus on delivering plenty of airflow.

The Thermaltake Massive23 GT is designed to accommodate laptops from 10 inch to 17 inch and features a dual USB hub onboard. They have opted for a 20cm fan with a red LED featuring a control switch for speeds between 500 and 800 rpm. The Massive23 GT has five adjustable heights with an anti slip rubber design to ensure the laptop is held steady in place. It is primarily made from durable plastics. The retail price is around £30 inc vat.

The Cooler Master NotePal U is designed to accommodate laptops up to 17 inch and features a 3 way USB hub onboard. Cooler Master are using a patented, configurable cooling fan system which comprises dual 10cm fans. These can be moved around the underside of the cooler, and even removed completely. The U Stand cooler also has 5 adjustable height settings with anti slip holders in place to ensure the laptop won't move around. It is made from a combination of aluminum, plastics and rubber. The retail price is expected to be around £37 inc vat.

We don't believe in taking it easy when testing one of these coolers, so we will be loading them with the ultimate desktop replacement, the AlienWare M18x. If they can handle this beast, then they can handle anything on the market.
