Last year with the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple made a few surprising gaming announcements. Now, several AAA studios are bringing their games to iOS devices, including the likes of Resident Evil Village and Death Stranding. Unfortunately, other acclaimed titles are going in a different direction, with a free to play mobile version of Elden Ring reportedly in the works.

Elden Ring first launched in early 2022 and has remained in gaming discussions ever since. It won many GOTY awards and many are looking forward to returning to the game for the upcoming expansion. Aside from new main game content, an Elden Ring mobile version is reportedly in development, according to Reuters.

According to the report, a small team is currently working on the mobile version and progress is said to have been ‘slow', so it could be a long time before we see this. It is also claimed that Tencent is behind this version of the game and is looking to make it a free to play experience with microtransactions. This essentially flies in the face of what fans have come to respect From Software for. All of the Souls games are praised for being complete, highly replayable experiences. A free to play version with microtransactions has the potential to be very iffy.

We'll have to wait and see where this goes but it is worth noting that Tencent has also abandoned plenty of projects and given that progress on this idea is going slow, it could end up being cancelled before it ever becomes an official thing. However, I think it is also worth noting that perhaps Reuters doesn't have the expertise to frame this properly, as a mobile version of Elden Ring is very different from a new game set in the Elden Ring universe with different characters, story and gameplay.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: This would have to be a spin-off rather than an attempt to recreate the game for low-power devices, with microtransactions forced in. That is perhaps the only way this could feasibly work but I still don't think it is the best idea. Then again, it might stand a better chance in certain markets.

The music industry is notorious for having rather harsh copyright laws with a relatively recent example seeing Nintendo forcefully remove over 1000 songs from YouTube in 2022. Fortunately not every company takes this approach as we saw with Square Enix uploading over 5500 songs to its YouTube channel last year. Now, Bandai Namco is doing the same, bringing its library of music to YouTube for free.

As discovered by ResetEra user ‘–R’ Bandai Namco have opened up a new YouTube channel called ‘Bandai Namco Game Music’ which as of right now includes more than 1000 songs from across a whole host of franchises. Just some of the OSTs uploaded so far include:

  • Code Vein
  • Dark Souls
  • Elden Ring
  • Little Nightmares
  • Soul Calibur
  • Tales of Arise
  • Tekken
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology

The full 1000+ songs were dropped onto the channel at the same time, and so it is currently unknown when/if more music will be added. Regardless, the list of soundtracks available right now is already more than enough to sink your teeth into.

Video game soundtracks are just as important to the gaming experience as the actual gameplay itself, and so it is exciting and encouraging to see more publishers making their music available to all for free. Hopefully Nintendo follows suit.

Following the overwhelming success of the Souls franchise we have witnessed many teams taking on the task of trying to carve out their own niche within the genre. One of the more exciting Souls-likes is the upcoming Lies of P; letting you play as the famous Pinocchio in a cruel, dark Belle Époque world. The game dropped a demo during Summer Game Fest – with the devs confirming it has already been downloaded over 1 million times.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Lies of P account shared that “Lies of P reached 1 million demo downloads and it has been our pleasure to welcome so many new guests to Krat! The puppets have certainly been busy since your arrival.”

Alongside the announcement, a few additional details were shared, including the fact that the game peaked at over 170,000 viewers on Twitch and hit the number 3 spot on Twitter’s Global Trends.

Featuring “hours” of gameplay, the demo includes the first two chapters of Lies of P, including challenging boss encounters, introductions to key characters, and unique areas to explore – “but only scratches the surface of the game’s full content fans can look forward to at launch.”

It seems as though the title’s unique concept and promising gameplay has turned Lies of P into an early success. Hopefully the demo translates into more copies sold when the game releases on the 19th of September 2023.

Following the overwhelming success of the Souls franchise we have witnessed many teams taking on the task of trying to carve out their own niche within the genre. One of the more exciting Souls-likes is the upcoming Lies of P – letting you play as the famous Pinocchio in a cruel, dark Belle Époque world. After much anticipation we now have an official release window.

Making the announcement during IGN’s 2023 Fan Fest, two short but exciting trailers were released for Lies of P, giving fans another look at the title’s flashy and purposeful combat while also informing them of the souls-like’s release window – revealing that Lies of P is planned to launch in August 2023.

Of course, while undoubtedly exciting, we have seen many different Souls inspired games released over the years to varying degrees of success. Between the likes of Nioh; Lords of the Fallen; Remnant: From the Ashes; Mortal Shell; The Surge and more the sub-genre is quickly becoming rather crowded.

All that said, hopefully Lies of P is able to not only stand out from the crowd, but stand on its own when compared to FromSoftware’s classics. Luckily we don’t have too long to wait in order to find out.

Elden Ring quickly became by far FromSoftware’s biggest success following its release in February earlier this year – where the game managed to sell over 12 million copies within its first few weeks on the market. Unsurprisingly, the game is continuing to sell like hotcakes, with publisher Bandai Namco now revealing that Elden Ring has sold over 17.5 million copies.

As reported by RMC, Bandai Namco recently released their latest fiscal reports, including a Q&A section where the publisher revealed that Elden Ring has officially sold 17.5 million copies as of the end of September 2022.

For comparison’s sake, the most recent figures for Dark Souls III puts the game at having sold 10 million copies – and that took 4 years. Elden Ring performing as well as it has is impressive not only for FromSoftware, but also due to the fact that Elden Ring is a new IP while Dark Souls III was the conclusion to a highly regarded and popular franchise.

What’s more, Elden Ring has managed this all without releasing any post-launch content – though considering the fact that the game has been nominated for a GOTY, fans are hoping to see news of some DLC at the upcoming Game Awards.

With Elden Ring having Sold 17.5 million copies in just 7 months, there’s no telling just how many units it will have sold when all is said and done.

All the way back in early 2022, the PC servers for a number of Dark Souls titles were taken down due to a major exploit in the system which could allow for one’s PC to be remotely accessed by others. Following the return of the PC servers for Dark Souls 3 and Dark Souls II, their predecessor is now also back online.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Dark Souls account said ”Online features for the PC version of #DarkSouls: Remastered have been reactivated. Thank you once again for your patience, understanding, and support.”

As mentioned last time, the original release of Dark Souls – the Prepare to Die Edition – will not ever have its servers turned back online, with the team explaining “We have determined that we will not be able to support online services for the PC version of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition that was released in 2012, due to an aging system. We apologize for the long wait and ask for your understanding in this matter.”

The exploit found within the Dark Souls titles was quite serious, and so as frustrating as it may have been for fans of these games, time was needed in order to ensure that such an exploit cannot happen again. It is good to see that all three Dark Souls titles are now back online meaning PC players can once again experience these games as intended.

It has been just four weeks since From Software brought Dark Souls 3 multiplayer back online for PC users, after spending months fixing a major security bug. Unfortunately, the game has run into a new problem, and as a result, multiplayer is now offline once again.

This week, the Dark Souls Twitter account confirmed that Dark Souls 3 multiplayer services will be going offline once again for an undetermined amount of time. From Software says this is due to a “confirmed issue”, but specific details have yet to be shared.

As of the 21st of September, From Software has been investigating the source of the problem and plans to bring Dark Souls 3 back online again as soon as possible. Unfortunately, this is likely going to slow down progress on bringing Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 2 back online, as those games have not yet been updated following the security issue discovered in early 2022.

Hopefully whatever this new problem is, it isn't as serious as the previous bug. Prior to the recent update, a bug in all three Souls titles meant that an attacker could remotely execute code on another player's PC. Remote Code Execution bugs are particularly dangerous, as it means a hacker can gain access and infect your PC without physical access.

Back in January, Bandai Namco and From Software were forced to take the multiplayer servers for the Dark Souls series offline for the PC platform due to a major security bug. Last month, we learned that the team was close to bringing multiplayer back online, but things went quiet again. Now, PvP is finally back up for Dark Souls 3, with Dark Souls and Dark Souls II set to follow later.

In Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3, players can enable online functionality to invade other player's games and also be invaded. Unfortunately, a flaw with this system could grant Remote Code Execution privileges, enabling a hacker to worm their way into the PCs of unsuspecting players.

Since the bug was discovered right before the release of Elden Ring, From Software decided to take Dark Souls offline on PC for a while so it could finish up with Elden Ring and then properly work out a fix for the Dark Souls issue. Back in May, a studio spokesperson told PCGamer that the update would be coming soon. and in July, SteamDB showed that the developers were working on a Dark Souls 3 update.

Now over half a year later, From Software has officially announced that Dark Souls 3 now has its multiplayer back online. The studio also confirms that it is still working to restore online functionality to all other Dark Souls titles too.

Considering the severity of the bug, it seems that the development team had to go through quite a bit of effort to properly secure Dark Souls multiplayer. Hopefully the update can roll out to the other titles in fairly quick succession, but they likely want to see if any issues pop up with the new Dark Souls 3 update first.

Several months later in May, From Software gave us a small update, stating multiplayer would come back online ‘soon'. Now two months later, the update appears to be imminent.

Now, as spotted by FromSoft-focused streamer, modder and dataminer, Lance McDonald, Dark Souls 3 has recently had several updates on the backend of Steam, showing that the developers are gearing up to roll out a new patch.

This update should restore online multiplayer to the Dark Souls games on PC. There may end up being a staggered schedule, with Dark Souls 3 coming back online first, followed by Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls Remastered. Hopefully this is something that Bandai Namco or From Software can confirm soon.

Just last week, we learned that From Software already has a new game on the way, with the unannounced title entering ‘the final stages of development' just months after Elden Ring shipped. As it turns out, this isn't the only other project the studio is working on, as it has multiple directors all putting together new games simultaneously.

In an interview with Japanese site, 4Gamer, From Software President, Hidetaka Miyazaki, confirmed that the studio has been working on a second game alongside Elden Ring and that it is “in the final stages” of development. The interesting part about this is that the news comes just a few months after we last heard some buzz around a new Armored Core game. Earlier this year, From Software sent out consumer surveys specifically asking for feedback on a new Armored Core, and even included screenshots and gameplay videos.

Elsewhere in the interview, Miyazaki also added that From Software is working on “several titles directed by people other than myself”. Some of these games may stray from what we've come to expect from the studio over the last decade. Miyazaki hopes that we'll see “a different colour of direction” from the studio soon, as reported by VGC.

So far, we know From Software is working on Elden Ring DLC, and likely has a new Armoured Core game on the way, but it sounds like there is even more in the works behind the scenes.

Back in January, Bandai Namco and From Software were forced to take the multiplayer servers for the Dark Souls series offline for the PC platform. The lack of online functionality is a temporary measure, as a bug that could grant an attacker Remote Code Execution (RCE) privileges was discovered. It has taken longer than expected to fix the issue, but online functionality will finally be returning soon.

In Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3, players can enable online functionality to invade other player's games and also be invaded. Unfortunately, a flaw with this system can grant Remote Code Execution privileges, enabling a hacker to worm their way into your PC by exploiting the game's code. With RCE, the attacker could obtain full control of a system without the owner's knowledge, making this a very serious issue.

The bug was discovered right before the release of Elden Ring, which was From Software's primary development focus at the time. With that in mind, we anticipated that Dark Souls would be fixed sometime in March, but several months have gone by without an update/ Fortunately, that changed this week, with From Software saying it is now in the process of bringing PC servers back online.

In a statement to PCGamer, a studio spokesperson said: “We are currently in the process of restoring the online servers for the Dark Souls series on PC. We plan to restore online service for each game progressively, bringing back servers for Dark Souls 3 once we complete the necessary work to correct the problem. We will provide additional updates as soon as the restoration schedule is finalised. We want to thank all our players for your patience and understanding as we work to fix this issue.”

Elden Ring launched last week to rave reviews and is already looking like a GOTY contender despite its share of technical issues. Fans of the Souls games have flocked to the latest title in droves – we've already seen it smash records for From Software on platforms like Steam, and it appears retail copies of the game are also breaking records for the studio.

New launch-week sales numbers have been published by GI.biz, showing that Elden Ring has managed to surpass other Souls titles in physical sales at launch. For the week ending on February 26th, Elden Ring debuted as the number one selling game in the UK, beating out the likes of Horizon: Forbidden West and Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which take up the second and third slots respectively.

Boxed sales for Elden Ring are 26 percent higher than Dark Souls 3 at launch, a number that is made more surprising due to the fact that many console gamers have shifted to digital releases since that game's release, with lower physical game sales taking place across the industry. Currently, Elden Ring is the fastest selling ‘Souls' game to date.

Around 63% of physical sales in the UK for Elden Ring were for PlayStation 5, followed by 17% on Xbox platforms, and 17% on PS4 respectively. Just 3% of physical sales were for PC, but we've seen the game crack 900,000 concurrent players on Steam, so we know the game is selling very well digitally on PC.

Two weeks ago, Bandai Namco and From Software were forced to take the multiplayer servers for the Dark Souls series offline for the PC platform. The lack of online functionality is a temporary measure, as a bug that could grant an attacker Remote Code Execution (RCE) privileges was discovered. Unfortunately, the team has not yet been able to fix the security flaw, so the games will remain offline for the foreseeable future.

A similar multiplayer system is also in Elden Ring and it was believed that the flaw could also be present in the upcoming game. With that in mind, From Software has prioritised testing and ensuring safeguards are in place for Elden Ring to avoid having to delay the game, or temporarily remove online features from the PC version. Due to this, From Software has not been able to fix multiplayer in Dark Souls just yet, and as a result, those games will remain offline on PC until after the release of Elden Ring.

“We want to thank the entire Dark Souls community and the players who have reached out to us directly to voice their concerns and offer solutions”, From Software said in a statement. “We have extended the investigation to Elden Ring – our upcoming title launching on February 25th – and have made sure the necessary security measures are in place for this title on all target platforms”.

“Due to the time required to set up proper testing environments, online services for the Dark Souls series on PC will not resume until after the release of Elden Ring. We will continue to do everything we can to bring back these services as soon as possible”.

From Software has promised to provide another update as soon as it has a date in mind for bringing Dark Souls multiplayer back online for PC.

KitGuru Says: This security flaw was serious and fortunately, From Software has been treating it that way. Hopefully we'll have another update on the status of Dark Souls multiplayer before the end of the month, or possibly in early March.

Over the weekend, Bandai Namco and From Software announced that all the servers for Dark Souls Remastered, 2, and 3 were temporarily shut down because of an “issue with online services.” While the publisher didn’t share more details, the bug is believed to grant Remote Code Execution privileges through the Souls’ series multiplayer invasion system, which could allow an attacker to take control of another player’s PC.

News of this issue first broke on the Elden Ring subreddit, where the RCE exploit was revealed publicly. An RCE bug allows an attacker to run code on another machine remotely, essentially giving them full control. While the news broke on the Elden Ring subreddit, since Elden Ring is not out yet, there is time for the bug to be fixed before launch next month. However, since the bug is also present in the Dark Souls trilogy on PC, the servers for those games have been taken offline for the time being.

This bug only impacts the PC versions of the games, so this doesn’t impact the console versions of the Dark Souls games. If the bug is present in Elden Ring, then it should be fixed in time for launch on the 25th of February, but if not, we could see a situation where multiplayer features are disabled for the PC version at launch.

From Software has publicly acknowledged the issue and is actively working on a fix but there is no time frame yet. Hopefully the developers will have an update for us later this week.

KitGuru Says: Given the severity of this bug, it makes sense to take servers offline for an immediate fix. The timing is unfortunate though, as this may take resources away from Elden Ring during the final stretch of bug fixing.

Elden Ring may be one of the most anticipated games of 2022 currently. First officially shown off at E3 2019, the game and its developers remained quiet, offering little more information until June of this year. Now the floodgates are opening, with a 15 minute long gameplay demo being showcased tomorrow.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Elden Ring account said “Join us for a 15-minute glimpse of #ELDENRING gameplay on November 4th at 3 PM CET/7 AM PDT [2pm UK time].”

Described as “The largest FromSoftware game to-date,” Elden Ring is a collaboration between Game of Throne's George R R Martin and FromSoftware's own Hidetaka Miyazaki – the Director for Demon's Souls; Dark Souls; Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Despite very little being shown so far, Miyazaki has earned the right to have FromSoft games greeted with a great deal of hype and excitement.

While we did see some gameplay during the recent June showcase, this upcoming demo will prove to be the most extended look at the upcoming game yet. Ever since the release of Bloodborne in 2015, the team at FromSoftware have evolved the gameplay of each new game in new and interesting ways, all the while keeping that unique FromSoftware identity which makes the games feel so good and rewarding to play.

Hopefully this upcoming showcase will give fans a look at the evolution of FromSoftware ahead of Elden Ring’s release on the 25th of February 2022.

One of the most impassioned video game fan bases is that of the Soulsborne series. This is doubly the case for Bloodborne, which only received one release, with no performance patches or remasters for PS5. Those who are hoping for that Bloodborne kick may be able to go to Team Ninja’s games, as it has now been announced that Bloodborne’s Producer has joined the studio.

Shuhei Yoshida, the Head of Independent Developer Initiative and overall PlayStation veteran recently took to twitter to share his most recent run-in with Masaaki Yamagiwa, the producer for 2015’s Bloodborne, saying “A fun evening with Team Ninja’s Yasuda-san and [Masaaki Yamagiwa], who joined Team Ninja.”

Team Ninja is known most famously for developing the Nioh franchise, a series of games which fall very closely to FromSoftware’s efforts. While not as highly regarded as FromSoft’s entries, the Nioh series cemented itself as the best soulsborne-like games.

With Masaaki Yamagiwa now joining the team, it is safe to assume that their next game will be even more elevated, perhaps being able to capture a whole new magic (as Bloodborne managed to do back in 2015).

Whatever Masaaki Yamagiwa makes next, it is possible that it won't be Nioh 3, as Team Ninja has already confirmed that the next game developed will most likely be a whole new IP. If Masaaki Yamagiwa serves as producer, this will allow him even more freedom to experiment and come up with something new and brilliant. We will have to wait and see.

Being combat-focused games that require precise and calculated moves in order to ensure survival, the Dark Souls series benefits greatly from running at 60fps. Unlike on PlayStation however, which saw Dark Souls 3 get a PS4 Pro patch, the Xbox received no such thing – limiting the game to 30fps. Thanks to FPS Boost however, this cap has now been removed.

Released in 2016, Dark Souls 3 came to consoles running at 30 frames per second. Thanks to the early release of the PS4 Pro in 2016, FromSoftware opted to offer a PS4 Pro patch, unlocking the frame rate and allowing the game to hit a theoretical 60fps (though this wasn’t truly realised until the backwards compatibility of the PS5).

By the time the Xbox One X had arrived in 2017, FromSoftware had moved on from the title, limiting the game to 30fps on Xbox despite the hardware boost. Though FromSoftware never returned to correct this, thanks to the efforts of Microsoft Dark Souls 3 can finally be played at 60fps on Xbox consoles.

Making the announcement, Xbox said “Praise the sun! We've updated Dark Souls III with FPS Boost on the Xbox Series X|S.”

While this is undoubtedly an exciting update, it is worth noting that despite the tenfold increase in hardware power, Dark Souls 3 will still only run at the original Xbox One resolution of 900p – albeit now at 60fps.

With 60fps becoming a standard in the new console generation, it is good to see Microsoft committed to improving older titles.

Recently, a leak suggested that Team Ninja, the studio behind Nioh, was working on a Dark Souls-inspired game set in the Final Fantasy Universe. At the recent Square Enix E3 conference, the game was officially confirmed – with a demo available to download right now.

Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin is described as follows: “With the memory of their struggle buried deep in their hearts… Jack and his allies, Ash and Jed, burn with resolve to defeat Chaos as they throw open the gates to the Chaos Shrine. Yet doubts remain—are they truly the Warriors of Light the prophecy foretold? Step into a world of dark fantasy and revel in the exhilarating, action-packed battles!”

As mentioned, the game is an action-RPG in the style of Team Ninja’s own Nioh franchise, and the FromSoftware titles – though with a lot more party chatter. Coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC in 2022, PS5 players can get an early look at the game.

Available right now is a limited-timed demo of the game exclusively for PS5 players, which runs from today all the way until the 24th of June, giving PS5 players a very early and exclusive look at the game.

Team Ninja has proven they know how to make an action-RPG twice over with Nioh and its sequel. It will be interesting to see how the team adapts the world of Final Fantasy into this style, and how they will manage to maintain the franchise’s unique identity.

Elden Ring excited fans when it was first announced during E3 2019. The collaboration between FromSoftware and George R. R. Martin could potentially make for an interesting and exciting game. That being said, since its initial announcement, very little else has been revealed. Now however, in a recent interview with FromSoftware, more information has been divulged.

In a recent interview conducted in Japanese, and later fan-translated, the studio revealed that Elden Ring “is larger and deeper than anything we've done before,” adding that “the game has got a sort of ‘open-worlded-ness’ to it with wide open areas where you can ride your horse and things, it seems there are scenes like that in the game so, well,… There's a feeling of a world here, I suppose, right?”

Speaking on the themes of the game, the rep described Elden Ring as “a very painful fantasy drama… There's pain there and from a human perspective there are themes of racism, politics, citizenship, and so on (…) So this is a work that is psychologically quote (sic) painful in a lot of ways.”

Some of what was revealed here was previously reported by leaks prior to the game’s official announcement. Still it is interesting to see the perspective that FromSoftware is coming from when tackling the development of Elden Ring. Hopefully we won’t have too long to wait to see more from this much-anticipated game.

The Dark Souls series is undoubtedly one of modern gaming's most highly praised franchises. Developed by FromSoftware, the series catapulted the Japanese studio to fame, thanks in part to its tough-but-fair attitude to gameplay, as well as its intriguing world. Though Dark Souls III released back in 2016, it would seem the love for the series has not dwindled, as the studio has now announced that the final game in the trilogy has sold 10 million copies.

Announced via a press release, Bandai Namco – the company responsible for publishing the Dark Souls titles – stated that “Even after 4 years since its release, DARK SOULS III is active and strong due to the support of the many player communities established for the game, thus leading to the sales of over 10 million units and counting.”

Moreover, this success is not unique to Dark Souls III, as the publisher also announced that the Dark Souls series as a whole has surpassed 27 million copies. Commenting on the series’ success, FromSoftware took to Twitter to say “We are incredibly grateful to every single one of our players. This success is owed to you. We hope you continue to enjoy our games, and look forward to Elden Ring, the new Action RPG that's currently in development.”

Though 10 million copies may seem relatively little compared to gaming juggernauts such as Minecraft (which recently passed 200 million copies), the Dark Souls series represents a relatively niche genre of gaming. Furthermore, considering the series’ spiritual predecessor Demon's Souls saw relatively little interest from publishers such as Sony when the game was first pitched, the Dark Souls series has certainly come a long way and is worth commending.

Since the release of Demon Souls, From Software has gone from strength to strength. Now, all eyes are on the studio's next game- Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which had a promising showing at E3 this year. A From Software game is always going to generate buzz, but the new direction that Sekiro takes has raised a lot of questions from fans of the developer, including what genre the game will be.

While the Dark Souls series is considered to be an RPG, Sekiro will be going in a different direction. After seeing the game in action at E3, PCGamer reports that Sekiro will be an action game, with no classes or stats to level up. This extends to weapons and armour too.

Sekiro will be a full on action-adventure title, with players utilising different gadgets over the course of the game. The grappling hook was shown during the E3 trailer, but more will become available over time through the main protagonist's ‘Shinobi Prosthetic', a tool that replaces your lost hand.

The combat system will also different to what Souls players are used to. This time around, combat is less about chipping away at a health bar, and more about reducing enemy stamina in order to inflict big damage hits and eventually open them up for a lethal finishing move. In some ways, it is comparable to Ni-Oh, which launched last year.

KitGuru Says: While Sekiro will be ditching the RPG-style level up system, this does point towards this game being fairly different to Dark Souls and Bloodbourne. That in itself, is fairly exciting, as it shows that From Software is interested in trying out new approaches to gameplay after many years of Souls-likes. Are many of you looking forward to Sekiro?

Shortly after Dark Souls: Remastered was first announced, publisher Bandai Namco mistakenly listed a ‘loyalty discount' for owners of the original game on PC, which would give them a 50 percent discount. At the time, they denied that such a discount would exist, but since then it looks like plans have changed.

Those who already own Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition on Steam will get a discount on the remaster when it launches on the 25th of May. Owners of the original game will be able to upgrade at half price, meaning you can get the game for £20/$20 instead of £40/$40.

However, in preparation for the remaster, Bandai Namco will be removing Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition from Steam entirely. The game will no longer be sold as of the 9th of May, so new players will only be able to pick up the remastered version.

KitGuru Says: It's always nice to see remaster ‘loyalty discounts' in place for those who bought games when they first came out. Will any of you be picking up Dark Souls: Remastered next month? Nintendo Switch owners were treated to a special announcement in January, in which Bandai Namco unveiled that the first title in the Dark Souls series was being remastered for the portable platform. Unfortunately, it seems that players will have wait for the real sun to begin praising once again as the title has been delayed until the summer.

Only Switch owners seemed to have been affected by the reported delay, with PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One still receiving the remaster on May 25th. Unfortunately, the new time frame for the Nintendo version is simply “Summer of 2018,” meaning it could take until the end of August until Switch owners get their hands on.

Similarly, the companion Solaire of Astora amiibo has been delayed until a similar time frame. Bandai Namco also went on to confirm that network testing for the Switch version will commence separately from the other platforms, however there was no indication as to when this might be.

This is a slight step back from the title being showcased at PAX East, however the publisher has tried to assure fans that “this time will ultimately be used to improve your journey to Lordran.” In the meantime, we will learn how comprehensive the final version of the remaster will be when it releases for other platforms on May 25th.

KitGuru Says: Thinking back to the less-than-ideal PC launch of the first Dark Souls game, I can understand why developer FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco are taking their time with the remaster. In the end, everyone will be better off with a little patience. Are you looking forward to the remaster?

While The Game Awards 2017 held many big reveals, such as Soulcalibur VI and Beyonetta 3, Dark Souls developer FromSoftware is a little more coy on what it currently has in the oven. Its 30-second teaser has prompted the rumour mill to spin wildly, suggesting a new Souls game, or perhaps something different entirely.

Since 2009, FromSoftware has relied on its critically acclaimed Dark Souls series alongside its spiritual spin-off, Bloodborne. Dark Souls is undoubtedly the developer’s biggest title, but with its last entry, Dark Souls 3 having been released in 2016, it seems a stretch that the company would announce something so soon.

Instead, many have speculated that the teaser is related to a Bloodborne sequel, considering the gory imagery of bone, bloodied rope and dated parchment match the tone of the PlayStation 4 exclusive more so than its Souls counterpart.

Perhaps even more interesting is the final caption before FromSoftware’s title card shows, in which is states “Shadows Die Twice.” This has prompted speculation that the teaser is for something else that the developer has in its history, with 1998’s Shadow Tower and its Japanese-exclusive sequel, Shadow Tower Abyss (2003).

Despite its longest running series, Armored Core being a third-person shooter, FromSoftware has firmly pegged itself as a keen developer of RPG games, so it wouldn’t be unusual for it to revisit the series that laid the groundwork for its acclaimed Souls series. Of course, it could similarly be something else altogether.

KitGuru Says: A reboot or continuation of the Shadow Tower series would be interesting as it would be something of a first-person Dark Souls/Bloodborne experience. Of course, many would prefer a new Bloodborne that, perhaps, might even break the exclusivity of the first game. What would you like to see out of FromSoftware teased title?

It seems that there might be some issues with From Software's anti-cheat system for Dark Souls III on the PC at the moment as according to numerous reports across the web, perfectly legitimate players are finding themselves banned. This is something that has happened before with a Souls game and a fix is already being looked at.

The big fear amongst some players is that they've been permanently soft banned without reason. This would mean that they can still go online but only interact with other players who have been soft banned, some of which could be actual cheaters in the game.

As Kotaku points out, there are some big posts about this over on Reddit and the Steam forums.  Over on the Reddit side, user Meowtock seems to have picked up on the fact that quite a few of the legitimate players getting banned found themselves in that position after suffering either a crash (which could corrupt save data and trigger the anti-cheat) or a disconnection from the server.

The Dark Souls community manager has tweeted out about this issue already, so From Software does know about the issue and hopefully some more information will be shared soon. It could be a while though, after all, we are also still awaiting an update on Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition on PC, which has mysteriously been offline for the last couple of weeks.

KitGuru Says: It seems that From Software needs to give its anti-cheat engine a bit of work, after all, it's not really fair to ban legitimate players or lump them in with potentially real cheaters in PvP. Are any of you currently playing Dark Souls III? Have you faced any problems?

While a lot of attention has shifted over to Dark Souls III in recent weeks, plenty of people have still noticed that Dark Souls: Prepare to Die edition has been taken offline recently. The original Dark Souls is still played and loved by many but the game has been stuck in an offline state since the 13th of April, the day after Dark Souls III launched over in the west.

The worst part is, From Software or publisher Bandai Namco have yet to say anything about it. The only form of ‘official' communication we have had on the matter has been from one of the Dark Souls community managers, who said they would pass on the information to the developers. Aside from that, no further updates have been given.

This means that the original Dark Souls currently has no multiplayer functionality, including invasions, co-op or in-world messages. A modification was made to the Dark Souls Steam configuration files a few days ago but right now, nobody knows exactly what is going on.

There are a few theories out there at the moment, some believe that this is Bandai just trying to push more people to Dark Souls III by taking the original game offline, while others think this is simply a case of freeing up additional server resources to cope with the amount of people logging into Dark Souls III right now. Unfortunately, there are no specific answers at this point.

KitGuru Says: It is always frustrating when developers and publishers go completely silent on issues affecting those that play their games. Hopefully this is just a temporary issue and those that are still dedicated to the original Dark Souls will continue to be able to play together.

Dark Souls 3 has been out in Japan for a little while now and the speed runners have wasted no time in getting to work dissecting the game and figuring out the quickest ways to blast through it. One player in Japan has spent the last week and a half putting a ton of hours into the game and has already set the speed run world record for the game, beating it in under two hours.

The exact in-game time is 1 hour, 42 minutes and 10 seconds, which is very impressive. The full play through is already up on YouTube so you can see it for yourself:

This was an any percentage run so the only rule was that the player had to make it to the end of the game as fast as possible, meaning they can skip areas or bosses where possible. This is likely just the first step too as speed running on Dark Souls is a pretty huge thing. Right now, the record on Dark Souls 2 is under twenty minutes so it will be interesting to see if anyone can get that close on Dark Souls 3.

KitGuru Says: I always find speed runs so interesting to watch, it must take a lot of skill to know a game so well that you can effectively cut the playtime down that much. What is the fastest any of you have beat a game?
