Edifier recently introduced its latest speaker set, the QR65 desktop active monitors. These speakers offer a unique blend of acoustic expertise, Lumia light effects, and TurboGaN fast-charging capabilities, designed to cater to a wide range of users.

The QR65 has already won a few prestigious awards, including the Visual Grand Prix 2024 and VGP 2024 Gold Medal awards. The QR65 incorporates sophisticated acoustic architecture, which enables it to deliver rich and full-bodied sound. With 2.75″ mid-low drivers, an aluminium alloy diaphragm, and long-throw construction, the speakers can produce powerful bass frequencies and clear mids.

The QR65 also delivers precise high-frequency performance thanks to 1.25″ silk diaphragm dome tweeters calibrated by Edifier. These tweeters result in crisp and bright trebles that stand out above even the most “bass-full” mixes. The speakers are housed in an MDF shell featuring dedicated acoustic chambers to segregate amplification components, resulting in decreased resonance, signal loss, and distortion.

Edifier's MazeTube Bass Reflex Channels and TurbMuff Air Noise Suppression Technology help to decrease unwanted acoustic resonance. The QR65 has two machine-tooled aluminium supports that lift the speakers, eliminating unwanted vibrations and channelling sound towards the top when placed on a desk. To complement the audio experience, the QR65 features 3D lighting effects via TempoAbyss technology (infinity mirror). A button on the side controls 11 preset light effects, and the ConneX app offers an extra ‘customise your own' option, offering 16 million conceivable combinations.

The Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless-certified QR65 uses LDAC and has an end-to-end audio process flow that supports high-resolution audio up to 24 bit/96 kHz. It also has USB and Line-In inputs and a subwoofer output connector. The Edifier QR65 speakers are now available for £329.99.

KitGuru says: These speakers might be a bit too pricey for most users looking for a pair of desktop speakers. Still, for those for whom money is no object, the QR65 might be worth considering if they deliver on Edifier's claims.

Intel released its first Core 14th Gen “Raptor Lake Refresh” desktop CPUs earlier this week. Initially, Intel announced that these CPUs would support Thunderbolt 5, the most recent version of the protocol. However, Intel has recently said that although certain 14th-generation processors will support Thunderbolt 5, this is not the case for the current batch of desktop CPUs.

An editors' note attached to Intel's announcement of the Core 14th Gen desktop CPUs clarifies that while some processors in this series will include support for Thunderbolt 5, these desktop models won't. More information about the Intel Core 14th Gen CPUs supporting Thunderbolt 5 will be shared later.

Without desktop CPUs supporting Thunderbolt 5, it seems that the new connection standard will be seen on laptops, most likely on Intel Core Ultra “Meteor Lake” chips. Thunderbolt 4 and older versions have been more prevalent on mobile devices with Intel CPUs than on Intel-based desktop computers, most likely because the connector isn't widely available on desktop motherboards.

In simple terms, Thunderbolt 5 is the same as USB 4 Version 2.0, but with all of the optional features enabled. Thunderbolt 5 has an 80Gbps capacity that is uniformly spread, allowing it to send and receive data at the same pace. When there is a need for more display bandwidth, it may go up to 120Gbps, making it quicker than DisplayPort 2.1. As such, Thunderbolt 5 can handle up to three 4K monitors at 144Hz, as well as multiple 8K displays. Thunderbolt 5 cables will also support up to 240W charging on laptops.

Intel's public roadmap takes us up to Lunar Lake but after that, the company's plans are still a mystery. According to a new report, Intel's plans are now taking shape, pointing towards an Arrow Lake refresh, as well as the introduction of new Panther Lake and Nova Lake architectures.

In a new video, Moore's Law Is Dead claims that after launching Arrow Lake next year, Intel will introduce a refresh in late 2025. Additionally, it is claimed that Lunar Lake will launch in late 2024 or the first half of 2025. Looking further beyond that, we can apparently expect to see the first Panther Lake chips in late 2025 or the first half of 2026, followed by Nova Lake in the second half of 2026.

The first generation of Arrow Lake CPUs, planned for Q4 2024, will have up to 26 cores, of which up to 8 are Lion Cove P-cores, up to 16 are Skymont E-cores, and 2 are low-power E-cores within the SoC. Intel has yet to announce whether or not these SoC cores will be included in the core count and how they work, but since they seem to exist, we'll count them like another set of cores.

These chips are expected to beat Raptor Lake in single-thread performance by over 25%. Multi-core performance is still expected to improve considerably over its predecessor too. Desktop Arrow Lake chips should come in late 2024, followed by mobile versions for laptops in 2025.

Moving on to Panther Lake, the latest rumours claim it will feature up to 4 P-cores (Lion Cove), up to 4 E-cores (Skymont), and 2 low-power E-cores in the SoC. These will supposedly target the 7–15W segment, working much like a successor to Tiger Lake-U and Lakefield. The Lunar Lake chips are expected to come out between Q4 2024 and H1 2025.

Intel is said to be considering an Arrow Lake refresh that will keep the same node and core types but increase the number of Skymont E-Cores from 16 to 32. This circumstance is similar to what happened with Alder Lake and Raptor Lake, where E-Cores were also doubled. Single-core performance over standard Arrow Lake chips should improve by single-digit numbers, but multi-core will get a big leap due to the increased E-core count. These ones are expected to come out in H2 2025.

Then, we'll have Panther Lake with up to 4 P-cores (Cougar Cove), up to 8 E-cores (Darkmont), and up to 4 low-power SoC cores. These laptop chips are believed to feature a new tile layout that will also be used by Nova Lake. The first devices to feature these chips should come out between late 2025 and H1 2026.

Lastly, Nova Lake will come to succeed the Arrow Lake Refresh in H2 2026, packing up to 16 Rentable Units (HyperThreading successor) P-cores, up to 32 E-cores (Arctic Wolf), and 4 low-power E-cores on the SoC.

Earlier this week following the publication of an interview with Intel's Michelle Johnston Holthaus, Executive VP and GM of the Client Computing Group, we learned that Meteor Lake processors would be coming to desktops. As it turns out, this statement was only partially true as Intel has now offered clarification.

In a statement, an Intel spokesperson told ComputerBase that Meteor Lake will power “desktop form factors such as All-in-One (AIO)”. This is an important clarification as AIO desktop machines often use repurposed notebook chips, soldered onto a board much like a laptop. So while Meteor Lake processors may be available in desktop form factors, they will not be available for desktop in the classic sense.

Here's the full quote: “Meteor Lake is a power efficient architecture that will power innovative mobile and desktop designs, including desktop form factors such as All-in-One (AIO). We will have more product details to share in the future.”

Intel Meteor Lake will make its debut with the first Intel Core Ultra processors in mid-December. At first, these processors will be reserved for laptops and notebooks but OEMs will have the option to put them into all-in-one PCs or perhaps even mini PCs like the NUC line in 2024. You won't actually be able to go out and buy a Meteor Lake processor as a consumer to use in a PC build.

UPDATE: There has been an update to this story. As it turns out, Meteor Lake is not coming to desktops, at least not in the traditional sense. Instead, Meteor Lake chips will be made available to OEMs to use in desktop form-factor systems like all-in-one PCs. You can find our updated article, HERE

Previous leaks indicated that Intel's upcoming Meteor Lake architecture would not be making its way to desktop processors. However, in a recent interview, the company has set the record straight, confirming that Meteor Lake chips for desktops will arrive in 2024.

At Intel Innovation 2023, Michelle Johnston Holthaus, Executive VP and GM of the Client Computing group at Intel, confirmed to PCWorld that Meteor Lake desktop processors are still on the roadmap, with plans to launch in 2024, putting to rest rumours that the desktop release had been cancelled.

While Meteor Lake will be arriving for desktop in 2024, the architecture will debut later this year with the launch of the first Intel Core Ultra processors for laptops. These chips are due to arrive on December 14th but the desktop launch date is still unknown.

Regardless of when Meteor Lake for desktops will be available, it begs the issue of whether it will debut in early Q1 with the Raptor Lake Refresh 65W CPUs or whether it will arrive later, closer to the rumoured Arrow Lake-S platform. Furthermore, both goods might be featured in the same product portfolio, or, as previously anticipated, Arrow Lake could be planned for the 2nd Gen Ultra series with a possible later release.

KitGuru says: If the rumours are true, Intel might produce three desktop series in a single year: Raptor Lake Refresh (65W components), Meteor Lake-S, and Arrow Lake-S. However, it's worth mentioning that the veracity of these rumours, particularly about the Arrow Lake launch in 2024, is uncertain.

The upcoming Raptor Lake Refresh from Intel will reportedly bring important changes to the entry-level and mid-range segments, including higher core counts, increased clock speeds, and support for faster DDR5 memory. In the latest leak, we get details for the full 14th Gen Core line-up of processors.

According to RedGamingTech, Intel will not be adding more cores to the Core i9 lineup. However, rumours suggest these will get higher clock speeds than their predecessors, featuring a maximum boost clock of 6.0GHz for the i9-14900K and 6.2GHz for the i9-14900KS variant.

Moving on to the 14th Gen Core i7, these processors will feature up to 20 cores and 28 threads. This configuration has been used in the mobile Core i7-13850HX processor but has not been seen in desktop CPUs before. As for the 14th Gen Core i5, Intel is reportedly planning to include 16 cores and 24 threads for the i5-14600. Lastly, the i3 will reportedly get two more P-cores for a total of 6x P-cores, matching the 12th Gen Core i5.

Support for DLVR (Dynamic Voltage Regulation) is yet to be confirmed, but Asus has mentioned the possibility of enabling it on future CPUs. DLVR has the potential to improve power efficiency by 20%, meaning you could either get lower temperatures at the same clock speed or higher clocks with the same power consumption. Either case would bring benefits to the Raptor Lake refresh, which is expected to debut in October.

The release notes of AMD's latest chipset driver have raised eyebrows, as mentions of Ryzen 7045HX support for desktops have been spotted. This listing has left some wondering whether it was an unintentional mistake or a subtle confirmation of the arrival of new Zen4 desktop APUs.

In the highlights section for the latest round of Ryzen chipset drivers, AMD notes that it added support for AMD Ryzen 7000X3D CPUs for desktops, as well as Ryzen 7045HX APUs for desktops. So far, AMD has not officially announced any plans to bring these APUs to desktop.

What makes this listing intriguing is the fact that the 7045HX CPUs have basic integrated graphics. These processors come equipped with a 2-CU iGPU, which serves more as a display driver than a gaming-capable GPU. To truly deliver a gaming experience on par with dedicated graphics cards, AMD would need to release Phoenix APUs instead of Dragon Range APUs. This would align more sensibly with the idea of a desktop APU.

Given these considerations, it is reasonable to assume that AMD might have made a mistake in writing the release notes for the driver.

KitGuru says: Such slip-ups are not uncommon, and it's possible that the listing was merely a result of oversight or miscommunication.

An Intel roadmap for 2023 and beyond has been leaked, revealing updates for the 18th week of the year, from May 1st to May 7th. Although most of it is covered, the updated roadmap confirms the cancellation of a specific Meteor Lake-S processor for the desktop we've heard about in previous leaks.

For quite some time, there have been speculations about the cancellation of the Meteor Lake-S chip with 6P+8E cores, with rumours pointing to a replacement in the form of an Arrow Lake die with the same configuration. If the updated roadmap shared by @OneRaichu is accurate, it validates those earlier rumours.

Unfortunately, the remaining details on the roadmap are concealed. As such, there are still unanswered questions, adding to the confusion surrounding the next-generation Core series. If the roadmap details weren't hidden between 2023 and 2026, it could've provided valuable insights into Intel's plans for the next few years.

Besides the cancelled Meteor Lake-S part, rumours circulated about Intel potentially preparing a 6P+16E Meteor Lake chip, which would be offered alongside the Arrow Lake-S chip featuring an 8P+16E setup. While the upcoming Core series may not introduce a significant increase in core count compared to Raptor Lake, there will be updates to the core design with a hybrid architecture called Lion Cove and Skymont.

There are fresh Meteor Lake-S rumours doing the rounds this week. According to sources, Intel's desktop Meteor Lake CPUs will support as many as 20x PCIe 5.0 lanes, as well as an upgrade to WiFi support.

According to TLC (via EXPReview), Intel Meteor Lake-S desktop processors will support 4x PCIe Gen4 and 20x PCIe Gen5 lanes. Of those 20 PCIe 5 lanes, 16 are dedicated to the GPU, and 4 are for storage. Compared to Raptor Lake-S, that's a 4x PCIe Gen5 lane increase. Moreover, the Z890 platform it's rumoured to feature four more PCIe Gen4 lanes than Z790, for a total of 24x PCIe Gen4 lanes.

Other details mentioned by the leaker include not supporting the AVX512 instruction set and introducing Wi-Fi 7-compatible wireless modules. Additionally, the leaker claims that the list of supported OSes included Windows 12. We haven't heard anything about Microsoft launching a new OS, so we don't know if this was a typo or something Microsoft is working on.

Lastly, the report states that Meteor Lake-S processors with 6 P-cores and 8/16 E-cores are ready, but 8 P-core chips could also be in development. According to the latest rumours regarding the release date of Meteor Lake-S, the new chips should launch in 2024, but meanwhile, we should get a refreshed Raptor Lake lineup in 2023.

Currently, Nvidia is working on filling out the line-up of RTX 40 series desktop graphics cards. Currently, the RTX 4070 Ti is rumoured to be announced in January. An educated guess would put the RTX 4060 as arriving around June, with a decent performance and efficiency boost.

Nvidia has not yet officially announced an RTX 4060 and we do not know the planned spec of the GPU either. Still, there are smart people across the industry capable of making a pretty educated guess. Wolstame, a product planning manager at Lenovo China recently shared their expectations for the RTX 4060, including a boost to RTX 3070-level performance with gains in efficiency too.

In a discussion online, Wolstame shared his estimations for the RTX 4060, including a 20% performance boost over the RTX 3060 to deliver performance similar to an RTX 3070, as well as a 10% efficiency boost over the RTX 3060 to bring the GPU into the 140W to 180W range.

If these guesses are on point, then we should begin hearing more about the RTX 4060 in Q2 next year.

We've recently seen quite a few cases of laptop GPUs being used for desktop graphics cards, particularly in China. Recently, an AIB partner known as Sheli took the mobile RTX 3070 Ti and began selling it as a desktop graphics card.

The AliExpress listing (via VideoCardz) of the Sheli 51 Risc graphics card shares the same specifications as the mobile variant. It uses a GA104 GPU with 5,888 CUDA cores and 8GB of GDDR6 memory clocked at 14Gbps. The GPU-Z screenshot shared on the listing shows the GPU comes with a base clock of 910MHz and boosts up to 1410MHz, falling within the laptop GPU clock range. The TDP, however, is set at 220W, considerably higher than laptop variants (80-125W) but lower than the fully enabled GA104-based cards (290W).

According to the Geek3D Furmark benchmark shown on the listing, the maximum temperature hits 64ºC, which is pretty good. No gaming benchmark results were shared, but the specifications suggest it should perform similarly to your average RTX 3070 Ti mobile laptop.

Because it's not an official Nvidia SKU, you'll have to use mobile drivers and 3rd-party software to make the card work. The card itself has a dark grey shroud and a dual-fan cooling solution with a dual-slot design. Like most cards nowadays, it has a perforated backplate for better passive cooling. To power the card, there's a single 8-pin power connector.

Available for £375 at AliExpress, the Sheli 51 Risc graphics card is easily more affordable than your average RTX 3070 Ti desktop GPU. However, without testing it, it's hard to pick the better deal in terms of performance.

KitGuru says: If Sheli is adapting RTX 3070 Ti mobile GPUs to work on desktop systems, other Chinese AIB partners should also be able to do the same. The question left unanswered is if that's even worth it. That can be hard to tell without any performance numbers.

Intel is already working on the next two generations of desktop chips. Named Meteor Lake-S and Arrow Lake-S, the two new architectures promise to bring architectural changes to Intel's CPU design philosophy. These changes are being made to accommodate the new features they'll introduce, but it seems Intel had to sacrifice some things.

According to Wccftech, which claims to have access to an internal Intel presentation, Meteor Lake-S desktop chips will come with up to six P-cores (Redwood Cove) and 16 E-cores (Crestmont) for a total of 22 cores. Compared to the current Raptor Lake-S offering, that's less, but the new core designs might be enough to compensate for the lower core count. These processors should also include an iGPU with 4 Xe cores (64EUs).

As per the source, there will be five chip configurations. You can see all of them in the table below:

Chip P-Cores E-Cores iGPU Cores TDP
Meteor Lake-S 22 6 16 4 125W
Meteor Lake-S 22 6 16 4 65W
Meteor Lake-S 22 6 16 4 35W
Meteor Lake-S 14 6 8 4 65W
Meteor Lake-S 14 6 8 4 35W

Continuing into the Arrow Lake-S, the future architecture will bring back the 8 P-core and 16 E-core configurations, totalling a maximum of 24 cores. The iGPUs will remain with 4 Xe cores, but these could use a different GPU architecture. It's also worth noting that the number of chip configurations reduces to three, as seen in this table:

Chip P-Cores E-Cores iGPU Cores TDP
Arrow Lake-S 22 8 16 4 125W
Arrow Lake-S 22 8 16 4 65W
Arrow Lake-S 22 8 16 4 35W

KitGuru says: With Meteor Lake-S, Intel could face a similar issue to that of Rocket Lake-S, where the top SKU had fewer cores than the previous flagship CPU.

As is almost expected by now, the specifications of the upcoming generation of Intel Core desktop processors have been leaked ahead of the official announcement. The lineup will include 14 models with up to 24 cores and 5.8GHz clock speeds, a record high for Intel CPUs.

Wccftech got ahold of some tables listing all 13th Gen Core desktop chips, as well as the key specifications. Much like the 12th Gen Core ‘Alder Lake' series, Raptor Lake (13th Gen Core) will use a hybrid architecture with performance and efficiency cores. Compared to its predecessor, 13th Gen parts will offer more efficiency cores, and maximum clock speeds have also increased.

As you can see in the images above, the 13th Gen Core desktop series will consist of 14 SKUs. These will be divided into K, non-K, F, KF and T series, where those with a “K” are unlocked, and the ones with an “F” don't feature an iGPU. Moreover, the unlocked parts also come with higher TDPs than the others, while the “T” series chips have the lowest TDPs of the stack. All chips support DDR4-3200 and DDR5-5600, except for the Core i5-13400, which “only” runs DDR5-4800 natively (though it can run higher-clocked memory in OC mode). In addition, only i9 SKUs (except the i9-13900T) support Thermal Velocity Boost (TVB).

The flagship processor is the Core i9-13900K/KF, packing 8x P-cores and 16x E-cores. Through TVB, it can go up to 5.8GHz in a single P-core, but the all-P-core frequency is locked at 5.5GHz at stock. For those that still want top performance while saving a bit of cash, the Core i7-13700K/KF could be worth checking out. Peaking at 5.4GHz and featuring 8x P-cores and 8x E-cores, the i7-13700K/KF will likely be a best-seller for Intel fans. Lastly, the i5 chips are led by the Core i5-13600K/KF with 6x P-cores peaking at 5.1GHz and 8x E-cores. Considering the higher clock speeds of the other 13th Gen Core chips, the i5 “K/KF” CPUs will probably be the ones with more OC headroom.

Intel 13th Gen Core desktop CPUs are expected to be presented at the Intel Innovation event on September 27-28th.

We've not seen as many free game promotions with graphics cards this generation, likely in part due to the major stock shortages preventing many gamers from upgrading in 2021. At this point, availability has vastly improved and we're finally starting to see some deals. This week, Nvidia has begun offering free copies of Doom Eternal and its expansions, as well as Ghostwire: Tokyo, with certain graphics card purchases.

Nvidia's “Face Your Demons” campaign arrives this week, offering £100 worth of games when picking an RTX 3080 powered laptop or desktop, or an RTX 3080, RTX 3080 Ti, RTX 3090 or RTX 3090 Ti graphics card.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is an Action-Adventure FPS developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda. The game is set in the city of Tokyo after a series of paranormal events made 99% of the city's population disappear without a trace. With a 76 OpenCritic score, most critics praise the game's atmosphere and visual design.

On the other hand, Doom Eternal barely needs any introduction. Following the success of the 2016 reboot, the sequel is one of the best single-player shooters in the last couple of years, currently sitting at an 89 OpenCritic score. Both The Ancient Gods DLCs parts were not as highly rated as the base game. However, they still bring extra content worth playing, especially if you enjoy Doom's game design.

The promotion will run from July 12th to August 1st or while stocks last. Only purchases made after July 12th will be eligible to earn game codes (Steam). You may redeem your code by September 1st.

AMD's annual Financial Analyst Day wasn't only focused on upcoming Radeon products. During the event, AMD also shared a lot of details about its upcoming processors, with new roadmaps for upcoming Ryzen CPUs and APUs.

With the first Zen 4 products set to release this year, we've come to the end of the current public Ryzen roadmap, so it is time for an update. Following on from Zen 4, we'll see AMD launch Zen 4 V-Cache processors, and Zen 4c. These will be based on 5nm or 4nm process nodes. It's unclear where each of them will be used, but rumours claim Zen 4c will be powering Bergamo, a CPU architecture aimed at cloud computing.

Compared to Zen 3, AMD claims Zen 4 offers an IPC boost of 8-10% and a single-thread performance improvement of over 15%. Moreover, bandwidth memory per core will increase, and the new chips will support ISA extensions for AI and the AVX-512 instruction set. These improvements result in a performance-per-watt gain of over 25% and an overall performance improvement of over 35% (based on the Cinebench multi-core test).

After Zen 4, we will get Zen 5 in 2024, which will also have V-Cache and “c” variants. All Zen 5 variants will be based on 4nm or 3nm nodes, bringing more performance and efficiency gains and improved AI and ML optimisations.

After the Ryzen 6000 series, AMD's next laptop CPU architecture is Phoenix Point, possibly belonging to the Ryzen 7000 series. Based on the 4nm process node, the new architecture will feature RDNA 3 graphics, Zen 4 cores and AIE (Artificial Intelligence Engine). Then, we'll get Strix Point, based on an “advanced” node and featuring RDNA 3+ graphics and an AIE too. Phoenix Point products should come out in 2023, leaving Strix Point-based chips for 2024.

Lastly, AMD also shared the roadmap for desktop platforms. Later this year, AMD will release Ryzen 7000 series desktop CPUs (Raphael), but they already have plans for what's coming next. The Threadripper product line will receive a new series based on the Zen 4 core architecture, and the Ryzen 7000 mainstream series will feature chips using 3D V-Cache. After that, AMD will focus on Granite Ridge (Zen 5), expected to launch in 2024.

New rumours about the Intel Arc Alchemist desktop line-up have surfaced, stating which Nvidia and AMD GPUs each A-series GPU will compete with. So far, it seems that Intel has models lined up to compete with everything from the entry-level to more capable gaming GPUs.

According to sources on Bilibili (via Wccftech), Intel is preparing an Arc A310 GPU that will offer similar performance to the Radeon RX 6400. In addition, this Intel graphics card should come with 4GB of GDDR6 memory. Based on the leaks and rumours we've heard up to now, the A310 should be based on the ACM-G11 GPU with either 4 or 6 Xe cores and a 64 or 96-bit memory bus.

The leaker also mentioned the A750 would be on par with Nvidia's RTX 3060, and the A580 would stand between the RTX 3060 and the RX 6600. Finally, the A380 should be inferior to the RTX 3050 but outperform the Radeon RX 6400, assuming this information is accurate.

Intel is currently launching the first Arc series GPUs for laptops, with plans to introduce the first desktop graphics cards over the Summer.

Alongside the mobile GPU launch, Intel has also begun teasing its upcoming ‘limited edition' Arc graphics card. This will essentially be Intel's Founders Edition equivalent, while board partners like Asus, MSI, Gigabyte and others will create custom-cooled solutions, which will be more widely available.

The image gives away very little and Intel hasn't confirmed specifics about this GPU, its specs or expected performance. However, we can see that this GPU will have a sleek dual-fan cooler, three DisplayPort ports and an HDMI port for connectivity.

Intel's desktop GPUs will pack more Xe Cores, RT units and faster memory at the top-end compared to the laptop variants. The first desktop GPUs will launch ‘this summer', so hopefully we'll have more news in June.

KitGuru Says: As interesting as the mobile GPUs are, many of us DIY PC enthusiasts are more interested in the desktop versions. The card looks nice, but we still need to see specs and benchmarks before we start getting excited.

With Intel Arc Alchemist desktop graphics cards coming in Q2 2022, we are starting to see a few benchmark entries of the engineering samples hitting the Internet. This was the case in the Geekbench database, where an Intel GPU with 512 EUs was spotted running at 2.4GHz.

According to the Geekbench 5 entry spotted by @Benchleaks, the Intel Arc Alchemist GPU with 512 EUs had 12.7GB of VRAM running at an undisclosed speed (probably 16 or 18Gbps). The remaining system specs include a 6C/6T Intel i5-9600K and 32GB of DDR4-2666 memory.

With an OpenCL score of 85448 points, this engineering sample performed at about the same level as an RTX 2060/2070, far from the rumoured performance targets. However, it's worth mentioning that this is an engineering sample running a benchmark with a not so important framework for gaming. Although we expect to see a higher result once Intel releases the Arc Alchemist desktop GPUs to the public, the OpenCL score shouldn't reflect on the card's gaming capabilities.

Nonetheless, user @326powah (via VideoCardz) created a chart showing the individual results from the Intel GPU, an average RTX 3070 card, and a Radeon RX 6700 XT. In most instances, the Intel GPU scores lower than the other two, but there's also the occasional case where it can stand toe-to-toe with its rivals. In the Gaussian Blur test, the blue team's GPU actually beats the AMD and the Nvidia cards.

As the launch of Intel's Alder Lake desktop processors approaches, more detailed leaks have started to surface. The latest of these details the K-series SKUs, including the clock speeds of each core cluster, the amount of L3 cache as well as the PL1 and PL2 values.

The leak was shared on Zhihu (via @davidneco25320) and is based on qualification samples that were reportedly sent to partners. The processors listed in the leak are the Core i9-12900K, Core i7-12700K, and Core i5-12600K. These three processors share the same PL1 and PL2 values, which are 125W and 228W, respectively.

The supposedly 12th Gen Core flagship processor, the Core i9-12900K, will come with 30MB of L3 cache. The P-core cluster (big/performance cores) clock speeds will peak at 5.3GHz (1-2C), reducing to 5.0GHz when using all 8x P-Cores, while the E-Core cluster (small/efficiency cores) will be able to reach 3.9GHz (1-4C), but only 3.7GHz on all 8x E-Cores.

As for the Core i7-12700K, which features 25MB of L3 cache, 5.0GHz clocks speeds will be achievable when using 1-2x P-Cores, reducing to a maximum of 4.7GHz on all 8x P-Cores. The E-Cores on the i7 processor will boost only 0.1GHz less than the i9, but only on 1-2x cores. When using all 4x cores, it should boost up to 3.6GHz.

Last but not least, there's the i5-12600K with 20MB of L3 cache. The P-Core cluster can boost up to 4.9GHz on 1-2x cores and 4.5GHz on 6x cores. The E-Core cluster turbo boost is further reduced in this SKU, reaching up to 3.6GHz on 1-2x cores and 3.4GHz on all 4x cores.

Intel Alder Lake desktop processors are expected to hit the market by the end of this year, supporting DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0.

Back when Microsoft first introduced Windows 10, it had a lofty goal of reaching 1 billion active users within its first three years. That milestone ended up taking five years to reach, with Windows 10 being found on 1 billion active devices by March 2020. Now a year later, Microsoft has added another 300 million users to the Windows 10 ecosystem.

Last night during Microsoft's financial earnings report, the company revealed that Windows 10 is now installed on 1.3 billion active devices. A large portion of this growth was driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw many people having to switch to working from home. The PC market as a whole also grew over the last year.

At this point, Windows 10 holds just shy of 80 percent of PC market share, while Windows 7 has dropped to around 16 percent, according to Statcounter.

With more users than ever before, Windows is also bringing in more money for Microsoft. Windows OEM revenue rose by 10 percent from the previous quarter and according to ZDNet, Windows OEM revenue rose by 44 percent year-on-year.

Microsoft's Surface line-up also saw growth in the past year, with revenues rising to $1.5 billion for the quarter ending on March 31st. As a whole, Microsoft revenue sat at $41.7 billion for the quarter.

Konami might be lagging behind when it comes to new releases in some of its historic game franchises, but it is not lagging behind when it comes to hardware. This week, Konami is taking a step away from Pachinko machines and instead launching a series of decently spec'd gaming PCs.

The Arespear PC line-up has three entries, the C300, C700, and C700+. The C300 is the cheapest out of the three and will be equipped with an Intel Core i5-9400F, 8GB DDR4-2666MHz RAM, a 512GB NVMe M.2 SSD, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650.

Both the C700 and C700+ have identical hardware specs – an Intel Core i7-9700 CPU, 16 GB DDR4-2666MHz RAM, 512 GB NVMe M.2 SSD, a 1 TB HDD, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super. The only thing that separates the two gaming desktops is that the C700+ comes with a windowed panel.

The C300 comes at a price of about £1,350, the C700 for about £2300 and the C700+ will cost you about £2500. To start, these systems will primarily be available in Japan, with shipping set to begin in late September. However, there is always the possibility that these could spread to other markets eventually.

KitGuru Says: Konami is well known in Japan for Arcade machines, so taking a step into the Japanese desktop PC market isn't as much of a stretch as it may first seem to westerners. What do you think of Konami's first line-up of Gaming PCs?

A Huawei-powered desktop has surfaced online, featuring an 8-core 7nm Kunpeng 920 processor running at 2.6 GHz across eight cores.

Most desktops today are built using a CPU that is based either on the x86 or the x64 architecture. However, Huawei has chosen to go down a different path with the introduction of its latest desktop. The Kunpeng 920 CPU found in Huawei's desktop is built using the ARM v8-architecture and as a result cannot run current versions of Windows and macOS. Instead, the company opts to use a Chinese distribution of Linux, called Unity Operating System (UOS), which is a 64-bit operating system.

The Kunpeng 920 processor was announced back in early 2019 and the CPU has been aimed at the server market – being equipped with up to 64-cores. The introduction of the processor in a desktop marks a small step for the CPU market as a whole, but a big leap forward for the Chinese market. China has previously announced its plan to become independent of foreign chipmakers within the next couple of years, something that the country slowly is making progress in.

ID-Cooling has announced it will introduce a new CPU tower cooler to its current range of desktop CPU cooling solutions. The new design includes RGB lighting, four heat pipes and a 120mm Fan to join the mid-range CPU air cooling market.

The new SE-234-ARGB tower cooler from ID-Cooling is set to be the company’s offering in the mid-range CPU air cooling market and has all the features to make it a candidate for your next PC build. The new cooler will please RGB lighting enthusiasts as it features RGB lighting areas to the fan blades and the heatsink top cover.

ID-Cooing has equipped the SE-234-ARGB with four direct touch copper heatpipes running through the thermal transfer plate at the base, with a 120mm PWM fan attached by a new metal-mecha mounting system to the large heatsink. The entire heatsink is covered with a black coating to give it a stealthy appearance.

The RGB lighting is connected to a single cable which can then be plugged in directly to a standard 3-pin 5V motherboard header that can be configured and controlled by motherboard RGB sync software such as Asus Aura Sync, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, MSI Mystic Light Sync or ASRock Polychrome Sync. For users without RGB integration on the motherboard, ID-Cooling includes a standalone RGB lighting controller to provide multiple RGB lighting effects.

With dimensions of 126x88x154mm, the ID-Cooling SE-234-ARGB should fit all regular ATX cases with relative ease and is compatible with all mainstream socket types including Intel LGA2066/2011/1150/1151/1155/1156 and AMD AM4. ID-Cooling bundles its own ID-TG25 thermal compound with the cooler which has a thermal conductivity of 10.5W/m-K.

The ID-Cooling SE-234-ARGB is due to be launched in early January 2020 priced at $40 USD or €73 excluding VAT.
