Diablo 4 has had its ups and downs over the past nine months. While each season so far has had its high moments, season 1 simply didn't have enough content and season 3 has suffered from a pretty boring seasonal mechanic. However, there is a lot of hope for season 4, one that the developers have been hyping up for months. We'll get a preview of some of the biggest changes ahead of time, as Blizzard is finally implementing a PTR.

The Public Test Realm (PTR) is a tool that a lot of online games use. Players can access a separate server where progress is temporary. In return, you get to test out new seasonal features and provide feedback, usually a few weeks before the planned launch of an update. For season 4, Diablo 4 will be getting its first PTR, offering players an opportunity to see the new loot overhaul first hand. This will also give developers a chance to root out any bugs prior to updates rolling out to all players.

We don't have an exact date for the PTR yet, but a stream is coming within the next few weeks, during which Blizzard devs will announce Season 4 properly. We should hear about the PTR around that time, as the new season is due to launch in mid April.

KitGuru Says: Season 3 has disappointed me but I am itching to jump back into Diablo 4 for the next season. Hopefully the changes and breadth of new content planned for this season can live up to expectations and set the game up for a stronger year as we head towards the first expansion in late 2024.

Yesterday during the Official Xbox Podcast, Phil Spencer announced plans to bring four Xbox games to rival consoles. While this is happening, Xbox, PC and mobile will continue to be the only places with Xbox Game Pass access, and soon, Microsoft will finally start bringing Activision Blizzard titles over.

During the podcast, in which Phil Spencer was joined by Sarah Bond and Matt Booty, it was announced that Activision Blizzard games will finally start coming to Game Pass next month, starting off with Diablo IV on the 28th of March.

Diablo IV has been out for roughly nine months now and is currently in its third season of post-launch content. This season has been widely seen as a bit of a step back compared to Season 2 but players are very hopeful for Season 4, which kicks off in April.

This means those joining the game for the first time via Game Pass can spend a couple of weeks learning the game, beating the excellent story campaign and maybe trying out a few different classes to get a feel for what you like best. Then, they can jump into Season 4 as it kicks off.

Season 4 will include a massive itemization update and will also make changes to the way aspects are gathered. Blizzard will fully detail these upcoming changes shortly before launch.

KitGuru Says: I really liked Diablo 4's second season but season 3's theme didn't really grab me. All indications so far appear to be that Blizzard is putting the most effort into preparing for Season 4, which will coincide with the game's 1-year anniversary. If it ends up being really good, then Blizzard needs to focus on keeping up that momentum leading up to the expansion, as there is tough competition in the ARPG market right now between the likes of Path of Exile (and its upcoming sequel), and Last Epoch, which launches next week.

The ever-growing list of DLSS-compatible titles just keeps increasing. We have three new titles getting support for Nvidia's upscaling technique, alongside a new DLAA title and the introduction of ray tracing to one of the most popular games of 2023.

The new survival Action RPG Enshrouded was just launched yesterday and already supports DLSS 2 and ray tracing. Moreover, Tekken 8, which is coming out tomorrow, will be released with support for DLSS 2. Lastly, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, also releasing tomorrow, will feature DLSS 3 support at launch.

On January 30th, for the early access release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (exclusive for Deluxe Edition pre-orders), the upcoming Rocksteady title will also get support for Nvidia-exclusive technologies at launch. Instead of just getting DLSS, the game will also support DLAA (AI-based anti-aliasing) on day one.

Finally, there's Diablo IV, which has just received its fourth season of content (Season of the Construct). Although it already supports DLSS 3, the game has yet to receive ray tracing effects. That's changing this March when Blizzard introduces ray-traced reflections and shadows.

KitGuru says: Are you planning on playing any new games that are getting DLSS? Will you try the upcoming ray tracing effects coming to Diablo IV?

Despite owning a great deal of well-known IPs, Blizzard has historically kept many of them separate, even in this era of collaborations and crossovers. Finally, two of the company’s biggest games are set to crossover as Overwatch Season 7 is confirmed to include Diablo-inspired content.

Teasing the upcoming 7th season of Overwatch, Blizzard took to Twitter to say: “Might want to keep the lights on for this one #Overwatch2 Season 7: Rise of Darkness launches Oct 10.”

Alongside confirmation of its launch date, the team released a brief teaser showcasing the Halloween-inspired changes coming with the upcoming update.

The Junkstein’s Revenge co-op mode will be returning, this time taking over the Tristram Cathedral section of Blizzard World. A new map – Salmon – is also being added to the general game rotation.

Perhaps the most interesting announcement came in the form of confirmation that Season 7 of Overwatch 2 will be crossing over with Blizzard’s other popular IP: Diablo IV. This will take the form of cosmetics which can be acquired, including a new skin for Moira which transforms her into Diablo IV’s poster child ‘Lillith’. Additionally, Overwatch character Wrecking Ball looks to also be getting a Diablo-inspired outfit.

October has always been an exciting month for Overwatch fans, thanks to its annual Halloween events and whatnot. It will be interesting to see the full extent of the Diablo crossover – and what other future plans Blizzard has for collaborations.

Diablo IV has undoubtedly been one of the biggest games of the year, both as a result of its pre-launch hype and post-launch performance. Alongside the announcement of the game’s second Season, Blizzard revealed that in the 2+ months since its release, Diablo IV has surpassed 12 million players.

Announced by Rod Fergusson during their on-stage presentation at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live showcase, the general manager for Diablo IV revealed the game’s second major update – Season of Blood.

That is not all however, as during this talk, Fergusson also revealed that the game had already surpassed 12 million players. While they did not specify how many copies had been sold, Diablo IV currently is not available on any game subscription platforms, and so the total copies sold is likely not too far off from the aforementioned figure.

For comparison, since its launch back in 2012, Diablo III has officially surpassed 65 million players, with at least 30 million copies sold. Of course, the game took quite a while to reach such numbers, and so it will be interesting to see where Diablo IV is at one year from its launch and beyond.

Blizzard has finally announced its plans for Diablo 4's first season. ARPG seasons work a little differently to seasonal content in other games, so if you're a first-timer, or have just never engaged in an ARPG season before, there are some important points you need to be aware of. Here, we'll break down all the Season 1 details and what you can do now to prepare and have an easier start.

What is a Diablo IV season?

In Diablo IV, seasons are essentially a reset. Each season will introduce a handful of new items and a new gameplay mechanic for players to base a brand-new character around. To participate in a season, you will need to make a fresh ‘seasonal' character and you will need to do this for each season you want to participate in. Once a season is over, you will have the option to bring your character from that season to the  ‘eternal realm', so you can continue to use them in the standard game mode.

The fun of a season really comes in embracing the reset and getting experimental. Each season brings new items that can have a huge impact on gameplay, so the idea is you start fresh and experiment with new ideas to tackle content.

If you are a lore-head, then seasonal storylines should be a good pull. These will be self-contained stories that don't majorly impact Sanctuary, as Blizzard is saving the biggest story moments for future expansions.

If you decide you don't want to play a seasonal character, that does not mean there will be no updates for you in the standard game. While most content will be exclusive to seasonal characters, new unique items and legendary affixes will be available to all. Blizzard also reserves the right to bring a seasonal mechanic to the standard game after a season is over if it is particularly popular. This will not be happening with the first season's mechanic and will likely only happen in rare circumstances.

Diablo IV First Season Content Breakdown:

Diablo IV's first season is called Season of the Malignant. The story/theme has a malignant force invading Sanctuary, corrupting everything from wildlife to demons. We'll meet up with Cormond in Kyvoshad to figure out how to put things right. The season begins on the 20th of July.

The new seasonal mechanic revolves around a new type of item – the Caged Heart. This is essentially a new gem type that you can socket into your rings or amulet to enable brand-new effects. One early example shown is the Caged Heart of the Picana, which enables critical strikes to electrically charge enemies, causing lightning to bounce between nearby enemies. Blizzard has said there will be 32 Malignant Hearts to find, enabling new powerful builds. Blizzard has described some of the effects as ‘game-breaking in a fun way'. As I noted in my recent Diablo 4 review, these effects will hopefully shake up the meta and enable new types of builds and gameplay styles to shine.

To obtain Caged Hearts, you will need to defeat a Malignant Monster, which will then drop a Malignant Heart. You use the Malignant Heart to summon an even more powerful version of the monster. If you beat the boss, you get a Caged Heart.

Caged Hearts are separated into four types, three are colour-specific, while the fourth can be socketed into any slot. If you need a specific colour for your build, you can go to a Malignant Tunnel on the map, which will allow you to specify the coloured heart you want before summoning the enemy for you to fight.

As you play through the game, you will make progress on your Season Journey, which is split into seven chapters. You'll finish major objectives, like collecting a specific item, completing a dungeon or defeating a certain enemy type a number of times to complete a chapter and unlock the next one. These are just examples of early objectives, we would assume they will become a bit more difficult/meaningful later on. Finishing 7 of 9 chapter objectives will earn you a reward, including new legendary affixes for your Codex of Power.

Season Journey progress will fuel your battle pass progress. The Battle Pass has 27 free tiers, which unlock seasonal blessings, like bonus XP gain, or bonuses to currency drops. The remaining 63 Premium Tiers unlock cosmetic items for those who purchased the battle pass.

Each season will run for 12 weeks, so you'll have until the 12th of October to make as much progress as you want. As seasonal content is more experimental, you may run into situations where you just don't like the current seasonal mechanic. This is bound to happen to some players at some point in time, in those situations, you may just want to take a break and see if the next season can bring you back in.

That's all the information we have on the season for now. We'll have to wait until launch to learn more about the different Caged Heart effects, new unique items and legendary affixes.

How to Prepare for Season 1:

If you are planning on playing Diablo IV's first season, there are some things you can do now to prepare and have the easiest start possible for progressing a fresh character. Not all renown progress will transfer over to the season, but all claimed Altars of Lilith and world map progress will. You only need to have completed the map and Altars once and it'll unlock for all future characters, including seasonal ones. In order to ensure your progress is transferred over, you'll need to log in once on your highest progress character after July 18th. Unfortunately, Blizzard didn't have a more elegant, background solution prepared in time but the good news is, you'll only ever have to do this once.

Obtaining all of the map locations has an obvious benefit for future fresh start characters. Altars of Lillith may have been the thing you've been putting off, but the stat bonuses you get from obtaining all of them do really add up and will provide a big bonus for current and future characters you make. Doing all of this will grant the instant unlock of the first two Renown reward blocks. You'll earn the rest by completing dungeons, side quests and strongholds.

To participate in seasons, Blizzard requires that you have finished the campaign at least once on a character. You will still have the option to do the campaign again with a seasonal character. Completing the campaign once unlocks the option to skip the campaign on all newly made characters. Also, be sure to unlock all of your potions and your horse so you can start seasons (and newly made characters in general) with a bit of a boost.

If you don't know much about the MSI MEG 342C QD-OLED monitor, it features a QD-OLED panel that combines a blue self-emitting layer with a pioneering Quantum Dot layer. This unique combination delivers exceptional colour conversion and a deeper black level, ensuring clear visibility even in dark environments within the game. The monitor is an ultrawide 3440x1440p with 175Hz refresh rates and an impressive 0.03ms response time.

As for Diablo IV, Blizzard has recently announced that the game is the company's fastest-selling game of all time, beating the likes of Overwatch, World of Warcraft and its expansions, Starcraft II, and all other Diablo games. With an OpenCritic score of 89, it currently sits in fifth place among the highest-rated games of 2023.

The MSI MEG 342C QD-OLED gaming monitor hasn't been released yet, but some listings that have been removed suggest it will cost about £1,300.

Nvidia has been rapidly improving DLSS adoption since its launch in 2018. While the technology started off small, with support in just a handful of games with developer support from Nvidia. Nowadays, DLSS is available in plugin form for major engines like Unreal Engine and Unity. Adoption of the performance-saving tech has skyrocketed, now surpassing 300 supported games and apps.

This week, Diablo IV officially launches with DLSS support. RTX 40 GPU users can enjoy the full effects of DLSS 3 with Frame Generation to greatly enhance frame rates. Those on older RTX 30 series graphics cards will benefit from DLSS 2 instead.

Aside from Diablo IV, the upcoming PC release of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will also support Nvidia technologies, including DLSS 3, Ray Tracing, Nvidia Reflex and DLAA. DLSS 2 is also heading to Alone in the Dark Prologue and will be in the full game at launch. Recent titles like Wild Hearts and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty are also getting DLSS updates this summer to enhance performance.

Tower of Fantasy just recently received its DLSS 3 update too and with the upcoming Necrom expansion, The Elder Scrolls Online will also support DLSS 2, as well as DLAA for enhanced graphics.

If you happen to be a Diablo fan and would like to win a custom RTX 4080 with a Diablo 4-themed backplate, then Nvidia is running a giveaway for exactly that, which you can check out HERE.

After two very successful and widely played public beta tests, Diablo 4 is finally ready for launch. The game will be arriving next week for those with early access and will be available to all just a few days later. Now, Blizzard has shared early access and launch-day unlock times for the game, as well as when pre-loads begin.

If you are grabbing the Digital Deluxe or Ultimate Edition of Diablo IV, you will get to start playing early. Here in the UK, the early access unlock time is set at 12AM BST on the 2nd of June. This works out as 7PM ET or 4PM PDT over in the US, 1AM CEST for western Europe and 9AM AEST in Australia.

Those unlock times remain exactly the same for the official launch day, which is June 6th for most of the world, although those over in the US will get access in the evening of June 5th because well, that's how time zones work.

If you are looking to pre-load Diablo 4 so you can jump straight in when the game becomes available, you'll be able to do so starting on the 30th of May at 4PM PDT. Here in Europe, that means pre-loading begins in the early hours of May 31st. Pre-loading will be available across all platforms, no matter if you are on PC, Xbox or PlayStation.

To celebrate the launch, Blizzard will be running a Twitch Drops campaign. If you tune into participating Diablo IV streams from June 5th to July 2nd, and link your Twitch and Blizzard accounts, you'll get free cosmetic rewards.

We'll have another opportunity to play Diablo 4 ahead of release during the upcoming ‘Server Slam' weekend, designed to stress test the game's servers ahead of launch. Interestingly, the Server Slam beta version of Diablo 4 will have a number of launch-day features, including DLSS 3 support.

Blizzard is inviting gamers to participate in the Diablo IV Server Slam to stress test their servers from May 12th to 14th. Gamers can earn special cosmetic rewards during this event, including a Beta Wolf Pack Cosmetic and a new Mount Trophy.

If that's not enough to motivate you to participate in the Server Slam, Blizzard is also adding DLSS 3 support, massively boosting framerates via frame generation. Unfortunately, the technology is only supported by RTX 40 series GPUs. However, if you are planning to get an RTX 40 series graphics card in the near future, you'll get a free copy of Diablo 4 with the GPU.

In addition to the latest Diablo title, three other games have received support for DLSS 2 through game updates. If you have Fobia – St. Dinfna Hotel, No One Survived, and Someday You'll Return: Director's Cut, you can now run them with DLSS 2 enabled. Adding these to the list, we now count over 290 games and apps supporting DLSS 2.

We're a little over a month away from the launch of Diablo 4 and just a couple of weeks away from the next open playtest ahead of launch. Many of us have already had a chance to test Diablo 4 out on PC, but now the official system requirements are in.

The minimum spec targets 1080p/30FPS with low settings, while the medium targets 1080p at 60FPS with medium settings. Interestingly, the medium spec also targets 1080p gaming, with the Ultra spec making the jump to 4K resolution, leaving out a spec for those targeting 1440p.

The minimum requirements for Diablo 4 are very low, calling for a 2nd Gen Intel Core i5 CPU or AMD FX-8350, 8GB of RAM and a GTX 660 or R9 280 graphics card. The medium spec raises the bar a little, calling for a Core i5-4670K or Ryzen 1300X, 16GB of RAM and a GTX 970 or Radeon RX 470 graphics card.

The high requirement calls for a much more modern gaming rig:

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10 version 1909 or newer
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 2700X
  • Memory: 16GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
  • DirectX: Version 12

And here are the ‘Ultra 4K' system requirements:

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10 version 1909 or newer
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
  • Memory: 32GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT
  • DirectX: Version 12

Naturally, if you want to take advantage of DLSS 3, which Diablo 4 has day-one support for, then you'll need an RTX 40 series graphics card instead. The game itself will require 90GB of storage space and an SSD is recommended over a HDD, which is pretty typical for newer games. Diablo 4 will release on the 6th of June, although Deluxe and Ultimate Edition pre-order customers will get access on the 2nd of June.

Fans have been eagerly anticipating the upcoming June release of Diablo IV, especially following the open betas hosted by Blizzard – with many fans going through the beta content multiple times with different characters. Those wanting to play with and level up multiple classes will fortunately not need to grind the story, as the devs are adding a ‘skip campaign’ option to Diablo IV.

As discovered by Twitter user ‘DatModz’, the latest episode of Diablo IV’s ‘inside the game’ series (focusing on the title’s classes and customisation) featured a shot which seemed to confirm that with its official release, the game will include a skip campaign option.

Upon sharing this discovery, Diablo’s Global Community Development Director Adam Fletcher confirmed the feature, though added some clarification, saying “[you’ve] gotta beat the campaign once for this.”

The feature was then elaborated on further by Diablo IV’s Lead Quest Designer ‘Don Adams’ who added “As [Adam Fletcher] mentioned, this becomes available for your account after beating the #DiabloIV campaign once. Each character can then skip at creation or any time after.”

Adams continued, “Did you roll a bunch of alts to explore the classes before taking one to the finish line? You can skip the alts ahead or play them through – up to you. Want to play just up to your favourite part of the story or to grab a specific quest reward before skipping to the endgame activities? Go for it.”

Concluding the positive news, Adams stated “The team worked hard to build a high quality Campaign as an introduction and initial journey through the world of Diablo IV. I think it's worth playing multiple times, but we never planned on requiring repeat playthroughs per character or even per season. Once per account. Enjoy!”

It is highly welcome to see that Ubisoft-styled ‘time savers’ or other such XP boosting mechanics will not be necessary in Diablo IV. Hopefully more games follow suit.

Blizzard opened up pre-orders and announced bonuses for Diablo 4's deluxe and ultimate editions a while ago, but it seems there will be a bonus benefit. Those pre-ordering the higher-tier versions of the game will also get early access ahead of the game's official release date.

If you pre-order the Diablo 4 Deluxe or Ultimate edition, you'll get access to the game on Tuesday the 2nd of June, while standard edition buyers will have to wait for the official release date on the 6th of June. Blizzard head, Mike Ybarra, shared the unlock times for different regions on Twitter:

Diablo 4 had a very successful closed and open beta, with millions downloading the game and hitting the beta level cap of 20. The full game will include the full campaign, additional world tiers and difficulty levels. The final release will also have some balance changes compared to the beta, so don't expect to get as powerful as quickly compared to the beta.

Diablo 4 officially releases on the 6th of June for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5.

Ahead of its official launch on the 6th of June, Blizzard hosted a beta for the much-anticipated Diablo IV. With the open beta now officially concluded, the publisher released a number of impressive stats for the period, revealing that Diablo IV achieved “the largest Beta in Diablo franchise history.”

Taking to Twitter, the official Diablo page announced this impressive feat, saying “With 62M hours played, thank you for making #DiabloIV the largest Beta in Diablo franchise history. This is just the beginning. Hell welcomes all on 6.6.23.”

Alongside this statistic, the team released an infographic featuring a number of other metrics, revealing that across those 62 million hours played, nearly 30 billion monsters were slain, with player deaths totalling just shy of 47 million.

Blizzard also revealed the most-played classes during this period, with the sorcerer and necromancer topping the list. Interestingly, the team did not share exactly how many players participated in the beta, but in revealing how many ‘beta wolf packs’ were earned, we can discern that 2.6 million players reached level 20.

It is worth noting that the beta for Diablo IV was available across 3 platforms, namely PC, PlayStation and Xbox (in comparison to Diablo III’s singular PC beta) and so it is unsurprising to see the upcoming title perform so well.

Still, if this is any indicator toward the performance of Diablo IV, then it is safe to say that the game will be huge. Since its release all the way back in 2012, Diablo III has seen more than 65 million players (with official sales putting the game at 30 million copies sold) cementing the game as an undeniable success. Having released more than a decade ago now however, it will be interesting to see just how much bigger Diablo IV winds up being. We will have to wait and see.

While the Diablo 4 beta had some initial issues, the early access beta weekend was largely successful and led to a wave of positivity as players began to experience the game first hand. Now, Blizzard will be taking the lessons learned this weekend and making improvements ahead of the upcoming open beta.

If you missed out on the early access beta last weekend, then be on the lookout this weekend, as Diablo 4 will go into open beta from the 24th to the 26th of March. You'll be able to freely download the game on PC, Xbox and PlayStation and play up to the beta's level 20 cap, test out a couple of different world tiers and experience much of what the game has to offer, while keeping campaign spoilers to a minimum.

Speaking on criticism of the early access beta, Diablo franchise lead, Rod Fergusson, expressed some frustration with the way the term ‘beta' is viewed nowadays: “The word beta nowadays has kind of been misconstrued, where people start calling things beta that’s [actually] a marketing beta, and it’s just another term for a demo”, he said in an interview with NME.

“That’s not our case at all. Our beta is actually us testing our technology – especially on the server side. We had a little bit of a rocky start on Friday. We put out six hotfixes over the weekend, we solved dozens of issues and all of that work is going to pay off next weekend and then pave it for launch.”

It is true that the word ‘beta' has been diluted over the years. Publishers like EA and Activision will routinely hold beta tests just over a month before the launch of a game. These are typically marketing betas, as very little tends to change or improve between the end of the beta and the game's release. In Blizzard's case, it has stuck to the older route of testing things months ahead of time, allowing teams plenty of time to take action based on feedback or issues that crop up.

Diablo 4 will be entering open beta this weekend. Given that over a million players logged into the early access beta, we would expect that the open beta will see even higher amounts of traffic.

KitGuru Says: I spent a little bit of time with the early access beta last weekend and I must say, Blizzard has nailed it. It seems like such a huge improvement over Diablo 3, storytelling is looking like a big improvement and the graphics and gameplay are both highly polished.

Pre-order customers will get early access, allowing them to play the beta from the 17th of March until the 19th. On the 24th of March, the open beta will go live, free for all across PC and consoles. The open beta won't be running for very long though, with Blizzard planning to close off access on the 26th of March.

We've learned through numerous leaks that Blizzard has been holding an ongoing private beta for Diablo IV in recent months. Now, it seems that a public beta will be taking place soon, giving us a chance to play the game early ahead of its June release.

Diablo IV Producer, Rod Fergusson, recently hinted on Twitter that Blizzard would soon be making a beta announcement at an upcoming event.

Which event? Well it seems to be IGN Fan Fest 2023 (via PCG), as Diablo IV is on the list of featured games for the livestream. Chances are, the announcement will also go live on social media at the same time, so you don't necessarily have to be watching the stream to hear the news.

Diablo IV is currently set to release on the 6th of June, but Blizzard typically likes to beta test well ahead of time, so a late March – early April timeframe seems like a reasonable estimate.

Activision Blizzard recently announced its June 2023 launch date for Diablo 4 and the game is now available for pre-order with a number of editions to choose from. There's just one glaring problem with Diablo 4's collector's edition – it doesn't include the game.

While the Digital Deluxe and Ultimate editions of the game ship with both the game and extras, Diablo 4's collector's edition doesn't include the game at all, meaning you'll have to buy the base game and the season pass separately, adding on to the price tag.

At £96.66, Diablo IV Collector's Edition comes with a plethora of merchandise from Diablo IV, including a Candle of Creation, an Occult mousepad, a cloth map of Sanctuary, a pin of the Horadrim, an artbook, and two matted fine art prints. If you want a copy of Diablo IV, you'll have to purchase it separately.

Unlike the Digital Deluxe and Ultimate Editions, the Collector's Edition doesn't include any in-game items. Another thing worth noting is that the Collector's Editions will only be shipped starting June 30th. As a reminder, the game will release on June 6th, so those who buy the Collector's Edition will receive it 24 days after the game's launch, at best.

There have been plenty of Diablo 4 leaks in recent months. Now, just ahead of the game's release date reveal at The Game Awards this week, the launch date has leaked alongside some other details.

While earlier rumours pointed to a potential April launch for Diablo 4, the game won't be releasing quite that early. According to a leak through the Microsoft Store, Diablo 4 will be launching on the 5th of June. A new release date announcement trailer is expected to go live during The Game Awards.

Pre-orders for the game should also go live this week alongside the first details of Diablo 4's Collectors Edition. As expected, the game will be launching for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5, skipping over last-gen consoles.

The Game Awards will be going live on the 9th of December for those of us in the UK, starting at 12:30AM GMT.

Currently, the team is said to be gearing up for an April 2023 release date, which would make sense given all the gameplay tests and leaks we've seen in the second half of this year.

In recent months, Blizzard has been running extensive private beta tests for Diablo IV, leading to a ton of gameplay leaks showcasing the game in action. From what we've seen so far, the game is close to being finished, so these remaining months of development are likely going to be spent on bug fixing, polishing and ensuring all the multiplayer features are working correctly.

Diablo 3 had a very rocky launch, in part due to its always-online requirement, which hindered players from progressing in the single-player campaign while servers were down. Diablo IV is going to have more multiplayer features and a social hub for players to gather. With that in mind, potential network issues should be at the forefront of Blizzard's priorities for this launch.

KitGuru Says: Despite recent controversies with Blizzard, and the disappointing monetisation of Diablo Immortal, I am still looking forward to diving into Diablo IV next year. Hopefully that April 2023 launch date sticks.

Blizzard has been making good progress with Diablo 4 this year. Not only did we finally get a gameplay trailer back at E3, but the development team has also been posting monthly updates on the game's progress. In the latest update, Blizzard set out plans for Diablo 4's beta.

We've seen some beta footage leak already, as Blizzard has been holding an internal ‘friends and family' beta for a few months. The rest of us will get our first taste of the game later this year, as a closed beta test will be taking place for PC, as well as Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

This year's closed beta will require an invite from Blizzard, and you won't be able to share footage of the game. However, in early 2023, there will be an open beta for all platforms, which will be available to all.

For the closed beta, Blizzard will primarily be selecting players that have spent a lot of time with Diablo 2: Resurrected and Diablo 3. For a potential invite, you'll have to opt in to receiving communication updates from Blizzard by the 11th of October. Given the cut-off date, it is likely that the closed beta will begin in late October.

KitGuru Says: Diablo 4 is releasing in 2023. Depending on how soon the open beta takes place, we could be playing the final game by the summer.

The past weekend has been massive for gaming leaks. First, an hour of pre-alpha Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay leaked online, split across 90 videos showing different portions of the game. Now, almost an hour's worth of Diablo 4 gameplay has found its way onto the web.

As with the previous Diablo 4 gameplay leak, this footage comes from Blizzard's ‘friends and family' test phase (via Reddit). Someone with access was streaming the game to a group in a Discord server and a member of that group recorded the footage and put it online, according to VGC. The videos are clearly watermarked, and an ID number can be seen in view, meaning Blizzard will have an easy time figuring out where this leak came from.

There are two videos currently online, one is roughly 5 minutes long, and the other is 38 minutes long. You can hear people talking in some parts of the footage, so it is far from a great look at the game.

At this point, Blizzard is starting to share more about Diablo 4 publicly and even publishes monthly development updates. With that in mind, you can get a better look at the game, and quite a bit of information on Blizzard's plans, through official channels.

KitGuru Says: That's two leaks in the span of two months from Diablo 4's friends and family testing, which isn't an ideal scenario for the team to deal with while trying to finish up the game for 2023.

Diablo IV had a pretty good showing at the Xbox and Bethesda showcase a few days ago, but due to Diablo Immortal's recent microtransaction controversies, fans have been worried about Blizzard's monetisation plans for the new game, something that the studio has now responded to.

While Blizzard still hasn't really acknowledged the disappointment in Diablo Immortal's monetisation systems and hidden gameplay caps, the company does seem to want to establish that Diablo IV is an unrelated project, developed for a different market. While Diablo Immortal is geared towards casual players and catching the few whales with pockets deep enough to be truly competitive, Diablo IV is being developed as “a full price game” designed for PC and consoles, rather than the mobile gaming market.

In response to concerns on Twitter, Diablo franchise lead, Rod Fergusson, said: “To be clear, D4 is a full price game built for PC/PS/Xbox audiences. We are committed to delivering an incredible breadth of content after launch, for years to come, anchored around optional cosmetic items & full story driven expansions.”

The response confirms that while Diablo IV may have microtransactions in the form of cosmetic items, it won't be going in the Diablo Immortal direction, with paid dungeon rewards and weird balancing quirks to push people towards paying rather than grinding.

Diablo IV does not have an exact release date just yet, but it will be heading to Xbox Series X/S consoles and PC in 2023.

During the Xbox and Bethesda showcase, Blizzard ended up on stage for a considerable amount of time. Not only did we get new announcements for Overwatch 2, but Rod Fergusson also took to the stage to give us a pretty deep look at Diablo IV in action.

The new gameplay reveal for Diablo IV is only 5 minutes long, but it is packed with new information. Not only does the game and its darker style look great, but we now have confirmation that game will now have a full open world and new multiplayer elements. For instance, you can squad up with other players on the fly to take down massive world bosses, and in some zones on the map you can engage in open PvP. The best players in PvP will be marked as a champion on other player's maps, making them high value targets for other players.

The team is promising over 150 dungeons, a full campaign and a deep end-game with even more content for players to run through in search of unlocking more power. Overall, it looks like the next great Diablo game we were hoping for, which should restore some confidence following recent criticisms of Diablo Immortal. The game will also feature couch co-op on console, although the game will not be coming to last-gen systems, so this will be an Xbox Series X/S and PC title. If you play the game across both systems, cross-progression is in place so you can take your character with you and make progress from your desk, or in your living room.

Diablo IV does not have a release date yet, but it is scheduled in for 2023, so we should find out much more next year. So far, it looks like just five classes are planned for launch – Barbarian, Sorceress, Druid, Necromancer and Rogue. This leaves the door open for additional classes to come later down the line, as Blizzard promises to support this game for ‘years to come'.

Back in August, shortly after legal issues arose with accusations of employee mistreatment and harassment at Activision Blizzard, the company announced some key changes. Notably, Diablo 4 lost its director, but now after a couple of months, a replacement has been found.

Diablo 4 is now being directed by Joe Shely, a Blizzard veteran that has previously worked on World of Warcraft Expansions like The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, as well as Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls.

Shely has been on the Diablo 4 team for a long time already and is ready to continue the important development work on the game. In the latest development update for Diablo 4, Shely wrote:

“Over the past few years, we've assembled a strong team with incredible passion for Diablo IV. You, Diablo’s fans, are a critical part of this team. With the help of your valuable feedback, we've steadily refined and deepened the game experience. We have ways to go, and while much has changed, our commitment to the game is unwavering.”

Diablo 4 does not currently have a release date, but it was expected to release in late 2022. Any release date announcements will likely be saved for BlizzCon, which will be an online-only event again, taking place early next year.

KitGuru Says: Diablo 4 has found its new director and should be back on track development-wise. We should get another update on the state of the game before the end of this year, although we'd expect any major news to be saved for Blizzcon in 2022.

We were all awaiting new Diablo IV news at BlizzCon this weekend. Last night during the event's big opening ceremony, we got our latest look at the game, this time with a trailer focusing on the Rogue class.

The Rogue is returning for Diablo IV, after not appearing in a Diablo game since the original. The Rogue will be one of the first classes available in Diablo 4, joining previously announced classes: Barbarian, Sorceress and Druid.

The Rogue class won't be exactly the same as we remember. Long-range combat will be one build option, but you can also set up the Rogue to play more like the Assassin class from Diablo 2 with more close-ranged combat abilities.

Stealth abilities, temporary invulnerability and damage buffs are all also possible with the Rogue class. In Diablo IV, we can expect class-specific quests too. For the Rogue, players will be able to choose between different factions of Rogues and work with them on missions throughout Sanctuary.

You can get a good look at the class and its different abilities in the trailer. Diablo IV does not have a release date yet, but it won't be coming out this year. Instead, we'll be getting Diablo 2: Resurrected in 2021 to help ease the wait for Diablo IV's eventual debut.

KitGuru Says: Are many of you looking forward to Diablo IV? Are you satisfied with what was announced at BlizzCon, or were you hoping to see a bit more of the game?

Back in March, former Gears of War franchise head, Rod Fergusson, moved over to Blizzard to helm Diablo 4's development. Of course, the global coronavirus pandemic hit just one week later, which has had an impact on many game development studios. In the case of Diablo IV, while there were some initial difficulties, the project is moving forward.

Diablo IV has had a troubled development, with the project being rebooted several times. This time around though, Blizzard seems determined to finish and ship the game and has even began showing it off publicly, starting with an announcement at Blizzcon 2019.

Speaking during a GDC panel this week, via PCGamer, Rod Fergusson discussed his time at Blizzard so far and the progress on Diablo IV: “I had a full eight days in office. I started on a Tuesday and then the following Thursday, everybody was on work from home”. Despite this setback though, the switch to working from home for Blizzard has been “going very well” and the team has remained productive.

In the case of Blizzard, many employees have been able to take their work PCs and other equipment home and there are allowances to cover certain expenses like home internet connections. Steps like this are key to ensuring upcoming releases like WoW: Shadowlands still make it out this year, while also keeping development on other projects running smoothly.

KitGuru Says: We still have no idea when Diablo IV will be releasing, but hopefully progress continues and we can get an update at the recently announced Digital BlizzCon in early 2021.
