Just recently, Overwatch added its newest character, Doomfist, and while the unveiling was exciting, some were disappointed in the lack of Terry Crews. Despite plenty of teasing since late 2016, Blizzard ended up going with another voice actor for Doomfist. However, Crews is still keen to do something with Blizzard at some point in time.

Terry Crews recently had an interview with PC Gamer, where the actor discussed his new found love for PC gaming, as well as what occurred with Blizzard/Doomfist. Speaking about his initial meeting with Blizzard, Crews said: “It’s funny because when I went down to Blizzard and we were talking about possibilities I realised that I don’t wanna be the guy that hijacks a game, you know?”.

He went on to explain that his main concern was hijacking the creators' vision, but left the door open for future work: “The creators have a vision and I didn’t want to mess that up. I was not interested in trying to hijack the game, I let them know that whatever fitted in their programme I would love to do”.

While Terry Crews isn't playing Doomfist, he is happy with the choice Blizzard ended up making: “I can honestly say that they made a move that's better for the game, which is what they're about”.

So what about the future? Well, a collaboration is still on the table: “If I ever do do anything with Blizzard, you watch: it’ll be perfect. With those guys, we’re all friends, we’re all good. I think there will be something coming down the line—but the good thing for me, through all of this, is that I ended up doing Microsoft’s Crackdown which is huge”.

KitGuru Says: Terry Crews might not be in Overwatch yet but it seems the actor is very keen on doing more video game related work. He will be taking a roll in Crackdown 3 later this year, so perhaps we will see him in some other games down the line.

After months of hints and teases, Blizzard has officially announced Overwatch’s 25th hero, Doomfist. The legendary villain is fresh out of prison and playable on the public test realm available for PC.

While some were expecting more tank aspects, Doomfist lives up to his name as an Offense character with high DPS and a base of health of 250. His main attack is a Hand Cannon with 4 shots that recharge over time without reload, but this deals little damage in comparison to his melee focused abilities that all surround the gauntlet on his right hand.

His Rocket Punch is activated by holding the right click to charge a lunging attack that can cripple the enemy, reminiscent of Captain Falcon’s famous falcon punch in Super Smash Bros. This attack is particularly powerful as it has the ability to go through barriers, including Reinhardt’s shield and deals even more damage if the enemy is knocked into something from the sheer force. His ability bound to left shift is called Rising Uppercut, resembling Ryu’s signature punch from Street Fighter. It launches Doomfist up into the air, dealing damage on connect but also providing manoeuvrability. Another skill with the same advantages is his Seismic Slam, in which Doomfist leaps up into the air and smashes to the ground, dealing damage upon landing.

His Ult is called Meteor Strike. Doomfist is launched into the air with a giant reticle pointing below, in which the player directs to inflict an area of effect attack. Once selected, Doomfist comes smashing down from above, stunning all around him. He is intended as an initiator and flanker, and therefore has a passive ability called The Best Defense, which grants Doomfist a temporary shield when he deals damage with his abilities. This shield decays over time, so as with every Overwatch hero, every second counts.

Even before his release, Overwatch’s story is expanding. Director of the game, Jeff Kaplan revealed that the Talon organisation isn’t run by Reaper, but rather a council that controls him as a figurehead. Doomfist is one of these integral council members, who has the world view that human kind can only become better through conflict. Since it was Winston that put him behind bars for so long, Doomfist is sure to have no trouble in creating conflict no matter where he goes.

Unfortunately for many fans, it seems that Doomfist is not voiced by Terry Crews as previously teased, but in fact voiced by Sahr Ngaujah according to Gamespot. Crews had originally mocked up an audition for the role and was invited to the Blizzard HQ, prompting many fans to believe he was bringing Doomfist to life. There’s still a possibility that Overwatch will feature Terry Crews in another role somewhere down the line, with other speculated characters being Hammond, Bria and Ivon.

There is currently no word on the arrival of Doomfist on ordinary servers or consoles, but if previous releases are anything to go by then it shouldn’t be too long of a wait.

KitGuru Says: It’s been a long journey for fans awaiting the arrival of Doomfist, but is the payoff worth it? What do you think about Doomfist in action?

With Overwatch characters being so heavily steeped in lore, the rumour mill for the next reveal never stops turning. Many fingers seem to point towards the heavily anticipated Doomfist with the latest tease coming from an update to the official Overwatch website revealing new story details.

Blizzard has been quite hush on the subject of Doomfist entering the Overwatch world as a playable hero, recognising that expectations are now through the roof. With a blog post updating the already deep lore to the game, fans might be getting what they want.

“Three months after initial reports of an incident at Helix Security International's classified maximum security installation, a more complete picture of what happened has emerged,” reads the post. “Information and details of what happened were scarce as has been any news from the installation, said to be a prison for the world's most dangerous threats. However, after recent events in Numbani, it can now be confirmed that what occurred was an attack by the Talon organization with the express purpose of freeing one man: Akande Ogundimu, better known as Doomfist.”

Ogundimu was reportedly broken out by “a black shadowy figure” that is speculated to be Reaper, who has attempted the theft of Doomfist’s Gauntlet in the past. “After escaping from the facility, Helix lost track of Ogundimu until he resurfaced in Numbani, where he clashed with the newly introduced OR15 defense robots at the Adawe International Terminal, easily destroying them and reclaiming the Doomfist.”

The Doomfist moniker has been held by numerous people of different allegiances, with the first being “The Savior,” the second “The Scourge,” and third “The Successor.” Ogundimu is believed to be aligned with the villains of Overwatch, but could also take on traits of an anti-hero.

It is currently unknown when an official reveal of the next character will be or even if Doomfist will come at all. A good bet is to look ahead to Gamescom this August 22nd – 26th. Blizzard has a history with the event, with last year’s reveal of the Eichenwalde map.

KitGuru Says: Doomfist seems a little overpowered to be a playable character in Overwatch, after being rumoured to be able to level skyscrapers but this is nothing that a little lore couldn’t fix. Would you like to see Doomfist come to the game? What abilities do you think he’d have?

Ever since Doomfist was teased in Overwatch’s reveal cinematic, fans have been eager to see the character finally show up in the game. While we know Doomfist will eventually enter the roster, a Public Test Region crashlog reveals that it might be happening a lot sooner than expected.

The Public Test Region is an entirely separate server to the live game that runs the latest of patches before they head over. Currently testing the upcoming 1.13 patch, a crashlog makes reference to both Doomfist and “Summer Games”.

The latter will likely be a continuation of Overwatch seasonal events, repeating last year’s Summer Games that began on the 2nd of August. The mention of Doomfist, however, is what grabs the attention of fans. Doomfist is featured heavily in Overwatch lore as a mantle passed between characters, both villainous and heroic. Appearing in both the reveal cinematic as well as referenced in both the Numbani map and Orisa’s backstory, fans are certainly hyped for an official reveal.

After a flood of posts about the crashlog on the Battle.net forums, Reddit and screenshots cropping up online, Blizzard has removed the reference altogether. Doomfist was also said to be the second quarter hero release in a 4Chan leak from someone claiming to be a QA member from Blizzard Austin. This leak also reports two names of speculated future heroes, with Bria said to release in the third quarter as an area control hero and Ivon coming in the fourth quarter as a defence hero. The credibility of this leak is called into question as any new character is still yet to appear on the test servers, but if Doomfist is next in line then Blizzard are going to want to do justice to the reveal.

One thing Blizzard loves to do is expand its lore, planting seeds for future characters by dropping names early on. With a character named Hammond appearing in the Horizon Lunar Colony map’s data logs, it’s possible that the 25th character could be him, any of the leaked names or a character we’ve yet to hear about at all.

There’s still many questions about Doomfist. When will he finally be playable? Will the next one be a villain or hero? Will Terry Crews get to voice him? Even with all fingers pointing to Doomfist, only time will tell who character number 25 will be.

KitGuru Says: What do you expect from Doomfist? Would you be happy if Crews got to voice the character after months of teasing?
