We've seen a number of graphics card makers launching bespoke cards aimed at crypto mining rather than gaming. It looks like Sapphire is currently making a new card for this market, a dual-GPU version of the Radeon RX 570.

The card has been spotted by @Zed_Wang (via VideoCardz) on the saraba1st forums. As per the photos and screenshots uploaded, this card seems to feature two RX 570 GPUs on its PCB and a single HDMI connector. Given the lack of video outputs, understated design and simple cooler, this does appear to be a crypto-mining card.

Although there are none of the usual Sapphire brandings in the card, taking a good look at the photos allows you to see Sapphire's logo on a choke below the shroud. If the specifications of the Polaris-based RX 570 are anything to go by, this card should have 2x 2048 stream processors and 2x8GB of GDDR6 memory with a TBP of 150W.

GPU-Z doesn't seem to recognise this card properly but it identifies the card as a Radeon RX 570 GPU. The owner of the card also ran some mining performance tests, with each GPU managing about 30MH/s, or 60MH/s combined, while using 156W of power.

KitGuru says: Even when compared to today's graphics cards, the AMD Polaris-based GPUs are still quite efficient at mining. So, it's not that surprising to see an AiB partner launching a dual-GPU card like this.

We have been hearing about AMD's Radeon Pro Duo for a while now but today, the company is finally bringing it to the market, featuring 16 teraflops of compute performance and LiquidVR technology to help developers looking to dive in to creating virtual reality content.

Virtual Reality demands a lot of compute performance to ensure a consistent level of performance, which AMD wants to offer with the Radeon Pro Duo, as well as the LiquidVR SDK, which AMD claims to be the world's fastest platform to enable highly detailed VR experience.

Radeon Pro Duo

The Radeon Pro Duo isn't being pitched as a gaming card but rather, a tool for developers to help solve major problems with VR development by reducing latency and enabling faster workflows using FireRender technology, which offers up to 1.73 times GPU scaling. This is also the first product introduced as part of the AMD VR Ready Creator line-up of products, which is aimed at collaborating with and helping developers working on VR projects.

The Radeon Pro Duo will be available from today world-wide with a price tag of £1200/$1500 from select add-in board partners and system integrators. This means that it won't necessarily be widely available for consumers at standard retailers as you might expect.

KitGuru Says: While the Radeon R9 295×2 was served to a broader market, the Radeon Pro Duo has been designed mainly with VR development in mind. What do you guys think of the Radeon Pro Duo?

VRLA kicked off over the weekend and it seems that both AMD and Nvidia showed up with prototype hardware. Nvidia went to the event armed with a Light Field Display headset while AMD and PC builder Falcon Northwest came to the event with PCs featuring the long-awaited dual-Fiji GPU.

Nvidia's Light Field Display is a prototype and while the company is currently showing off the device rarely at events like VRLA, it isn't disclosing many details so we don't actually know anything about it. We do have the following picture from Nvidia's Twitter account though:

AMD on the other hand has once again teased its upcoming GPU, which is codenamed ‘Gemini'. This is AMD's upcoming dual-GPU card featuring two Fury X chips on one PCB. This particular graphics card was announced alongside the Fury and Fury X last year but unfortunately, it has seen some delays to release.

Right now, the current rumour is that AMD will finally release the Fury X2 (or whatever AMD does decide to call the card) around March or April in order to position it as the card for those looking to pick up one of the first wave of virtual reality headsets, such as the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift.

KitGuru Says: We don't really know anything about Nvidia's prototype head display yet but we have heard quite a lot about AMD's new dual-GPU card. Are any of you currently waiting on AMD to release Gemini/Fury X2? What do you think of Nvidia experimenting with its own head-mounted display?

We've been hearing quite a bit about AMD's upcoming Fury X2/Gemini dual GPU over the last couple of months. However, we may not see the card launch for a while, if new rumours are to be believed, as AMD may be delaying its launch to coincide with the release of virtual reality headsets like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

Originally, it was said that AMD would launch the Fury  X2 by Christmas this year. However, according to a report from hardware.fr, this has now changed, with availability expected in Q2 2016.

Fury-X2-e1448651799283

“Some delays due to VR in overall ecosystem readiness, HMDS are now expected to be available to Consumers by early Q216. To Ensure the best VR experience, we're adjusting the Fiji Gemini launch schedule to better align with the market.”

AMD's upcoming dual-Fiji GPU card was initially announced alongside the Fury lineup earlier this year. However, the launch of the card has been pushed back quite a bit and will now end up releasing closer to next year's Arctic Island GPUs, which are also expected to launch later on in 2016.

KitGuru Says: A lot of people were impressed by the R9 295X2 and may have been waiting for AMD's new dual-GPU offering. However, it looks like it won't be coming out for a bit longer. Are any of you currently running a dual-GPU card? Are you planning on upgrading your PC in time for the Oculus/Vive headset launches?

Last week, we heard talk of AMD's dual GPU graphics card, the Fury X2, which is currently rumoured to be set to launch this month with an announcement event planned for within the next couple of weeks. However, while the announcement might be coming this month, it may not be available to buy for a bit longer and could face delays.

This is all according to a report from benchlife.info, which says that while AMD is planning on officially introducing the card in December, and some add-in board partners may already have samples, mass production isn't set to gear up until Q1 2016, so the card may not hit store shelves for a little while.

Fury-X2-e1448651799283

Obviously, we have no way of verifying benchlife's sources, so take all of this with a pinch of salt. What we do know, is that the Fury X2, referred to internally as ‘Gemini', will feature two unlocked Fiji cores on a single PCB, equipped with 4GB of high-bandwidth memory per graphics core. Due to the way CrossFire works, memory per core doesn't stack, so you will still effectively be using 4GB, rather than 8GB.

Whether this pans out or not, stay tuned in the coming weeks for more information as we get closer and closer to AMD's official announcement.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: While a new GPU announcement could be exciting, that hype could wear off if AMD can't follow-up with units on store shelves fairly soon after. That said, this is all still rumour for now, so we will wait and see what happens before coming to any real conclusions. Are any of you running a dual-GPU card at the moment? Are you waiting on the dual-Fiji card?

The Titan Z was notoriously known for being ridiculously expensive at launch, setting back early buyers by a hefty £2300 in the UK and $3000 in the US. However, Nvidia seems to be coming to its senses, the company has cut the regular price down to £1100 and retailers like Overclockers UK are attempting to shift stock at even lower prices.

We missed it unfortunately but earlier this morning, OCUK were selling Palit Titan Z cards for just £899, the deal sold out in just an hour. However, Andrew ‘Gibbo' Gibson has told us that the retailer is attempting to source some more stock at this low price, although it's having some trouble due to low stock:

“OcUK is trying to do a deal for more units to hit £899 but unfortunately it looks very unlikely simply as stocks are so low at board partners and they don't feel the need or requirement to reduce price any further. But we won't give up as OcUK are market leaders, not followers!”

Titan Z

While we may not see another £899 Titan Z deal any time soon, you can pick up several models for under £1200 at OCUK. The EVGA model is currently the most expensive, coming in at £1199.99 while you can grab the Asus version for £1099.99, a big improvement from the launch price. Additionally, you can pick up a Gigabyte Titan Z for £1079.99.

As Gibbo noted, board partners are starting to run low on Titan Z stock and we don't know if any more will be made. It might not be long now before the Titan Z is completely out of stock so if you're eying one up, you might want to act fast.

You can see OCUK's Titan Z range, HERE.

KitGuru Says: £899 for a Titan Z is a pretty crazy deal, those who did manage to pick one up at that price are pretty lucky considering we may not see the cards priced that low again. However, just under £1100 for the Gigabyte and Asus models isn't a bad price either. Have any of you guys purchased a Titan Z? Would you be more likely to consider one at the new lower price?

PC hardware enthusiasts have always been about bleeding edge performance. Overclocks, voltage mods, extreme cooling, it's all part of PC aficionado's arsenal. However, while we all know that keeping up with the latest and greatest can be expensive, it rarely gets as pricey as one ebay user's recent acquisition: an engineering sample of AMD's upcoming 7990 Malta GPU listed on ebay, which closed at $96,100 (£63,000).

This was just one bid among a hundred others that finally clinched the ultra-rare GPU. Considering the final price, it would be surprising if a large majority – if not the final one too – are troll bids, designed to just drive the price up to see how far it would go. If the winner hasn't paid though, we'd likely have seen the Malta back up for sale by now, since its value is intrinsically linked to its lack of availability – and so far, there's no sign of it. Unless AMD intervened and gave the auction lister a rollocking.

malta
And here's me gaming on a 5870 still… I feel inadequate.

But I presume you want to know how powerful this thing is? For a full rundown keep an eye on your favourite review site in the near future, as I'm sure whichever one it is, it'll have a copy of this card at some point. For now just know that it smashes all competition. GTX 690? beaten. Some leaked performance numbers can be found at WCCFtech, though of course until the NDA is up and these can be verified, don't take them as gospel. Its in the public domain, so don't blame us.

Specs wise the twin chip Malta is packing over 6GB of GDDR5, a core clock that breaches the Ghz barrier, a 2 x 384bit memory interface and it requires twin 8pin power connectors. Again, all information widely available on the net.

The question at this point turns to, how exactly did the ebay user wowbagger1234, manage to get himself an engineering sample of the card? Judging by his previous auctions on ebay (of which he's been a member for nearly nine years) he just seems like an average dude, buying and selling average things. If he did net nearly $100,000, his standard of living just took a nice bump. Of course if its an AMD publicity stunt, it worked well.

KitGuru Says: Perhaps there are companies out there that release a product a bit early, let it be described as a leak so publicity is drummed up for the real launch. Not graphics card companies though. They'd never do that.

A leak through Chinese channels not only further engrains previous confirmation that NVIDIA has a dual-GPU based GeForce GTX 690 in the works, but also lets a few more details out the bag on the specs front.

This upcoming dual-GPU wielding weapon will be based on the 28nm GK104 silicon and is said to require juice from two 8-pin PCIe power connectors. The card will harness a PCI-E 3.0-compliant bridge chip and its display output configuration will comprise three DVI and one DisplayPort.

Certainly, the biggest concern for many will be the power draw, but given the kinds of people that are serious about laying down big dollars for the top tier models like these, it won't strike potential buyers as anything outrageous.

Apparently NVIDIA is setting the PSU requirement for the GeForce GTX 690 to be a minimum of 650W. If anything, seems a little lowly? Odds are most people buying one of these cards will already have the funds (if not already own) a high quality 750W+ power supply to ensure stability won't be an issue.

It can also be expected that the GTX 680's complete feature set will be in place with the GTX 690.

KitGuru says: We're yet to obtain the real juicy details including core config, memory amount, speeds etc. – It has been determined that NVIDIA will be timing the launch of its next dual-GPU card to strike soon after AMD's HD 7990 comes out to play.
