Asus has introduced an interesting concept for consumer graphics cards that aims to address the issue of unused PCIe lanes. Currently, entry-level and mid-range graphics cards use a full-sized 16-lane slot, despite only requiring 8 lanes. To make use of the remaining lanes, Asus has proposed integrating high-speed SSD storage onto the graphics card itself.

In a video featuring Tony Yu (via @Olrak29_), GM at Asus, we see a concept RTX 4060 Ti Dual graphics card with a Samsung 980 Pro 2TB SSD attached to the backside. This design allows for easier accessibility to the SSD compared to traditional motherboard installations, which are often located in tight spaces that require the removal of other components.

One concern with this integration is the increased power requirement. However, the added power draw should not exceed 10W, meaning the single 8-pin power connector should still be enough. Tony Yu also addresses potential heat issues arising from connecting the SSD to the graphics card. To mitigate this, the PCB has been modified to allow airflow from the GPU cooler to reach the SSD. The cooler is directly attached to the SSD using thermal pads, and with triple-fan configurations, the cooling efficiency can be further improved. Performance also seems pretty much unaffected, as the SSD recorded 6.8 GB/s instead of 6.9 GB/s for peak sustained read speed.

It's worth noting that Asus is not the first to incorporate on-board SSDs into graphics cards. AMD previously implemented this concept with the Radeon SSG, based on the Vega architecture, but the implementation was less convenient.

KitGuru says: Asus's concept of integrating SSD storage onto graphics cards offers the potential for improved accessibility, reduced clutter, and efficient cooling. Although promising, it's unclear whether mainstream mid-range graphics cards will adopt this idea.

Just recently, Asus launched new RTX 3060 Dual models with GDDR6X memory in an all-black design. Now, these graphics cards will also be available in white.

With the release of the new RTX 3060 Ti with GDDR6X memory and the 8GB version of the RTX 3060, Asus has decided to refresh the looks of its cards with some new models. First, it redesigned the Dual card aesthetics with a new RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X card. Now, it's launching white-coloured options for the latest Dual designs.

The RTX 3060 Ti Dual White non-OC version has a +15MHz overclock over reference values in OC mode. If you want something more than that, the OC version comes with a +30MHz boost over reference. As for the standard RTX 3060 Dual white, it runs at +30MHz over reference. The OC version pushes slightly above that with +90MHz.

Like the black version, the RTX 3060 Ti Dual white is powered by two 8-pin power connectors. On the other hand, the RTX 3060 Dual White card comes with a single 8-pin connector. Pricing and availability are yet to be revealed.

Following on from months of leaks and rumours, the first GDDR6X RTX 3060 Ti graphics cards are starting to arrive. This time around, Asus is launching a revamped Dual-series RTX 3060 Ti with 8GB of GDDR6X memory.

Similar to previous RTX 3060 Ti Dual series graphics cards, the new ones (found by VideoCardz) use a two-fan cooling solution in a dual-slot design. The new design is slightly smaller than the previous design, which measured in at 269x136x52mm. The new version is about 4cm shorter, 1cm slimmer and 1.6cm narrower for a more compact graphics card.

Despite its compact form factor, there is an out-of-box overclock in place. The standard model boosts 15MHz over reference clock speeds, allowing it to push up to 1,695MHz. The new OC version boosts up to 1,710MHz.

Available video outputs have also changed with this revision. While the former model had five video outputs, including three DisplayPorts and two HDMI connectors, the newer one only has four, maintaining the 3x DP ports but only one HDMI connector.

KitGuru says: Do you prefer the older and bigger RTX 3060 Ti Dual series cards with higher clock speeds or the new, more compact version?

Previous rumours suggested that the RTX 3060 would receive an 8GB variant, and according to a few AIB partners, it seems they were accurate. For now, only Manli and Asus have listed RTX 3060 8GB custom cards on their websites, but others should follow soon.

A couple of days ago, we saw Asus introducing the first RTX 3060 Ti card with GDDR6X memory. Now, we turn our attention to the new version of the RTX 3060. As spotted by VideoCardz, Manli listed an RTX 3060 with 8GB of memory, confirming the rumours we've been hearing over the last couple of months. Moreover, Asus has also introduced two RTX 3060 8GB Dual series models.

The Asus cards' specs are unknown, but Manli has the spec sheet available online, which shows the card will feature 3,584 CUDA cores with a 1,320MHz base clock speed, boosting up to 1,777MHz as needed. This is the same as their RTX 3060 12GB graphics cards. The only difference seems to be in the memory subsystem. Instead of 12GB of GDDR6 memory and a 192-bit bus, it comes with 8GB on a 128-bit memory bus, reducing the GPU's maximum memory bandwidth to 240GB/s (down from 360GB/s).

Although we don't know the specs of the Asus RTX 3060 8GB Dual cards, we assume they should be similar to their 12GB variants but with less memory and a tighter bus.

KitGuru says: Nvidia has yet to say anything official about the new version of the RTX 3060, but it seems the 8GB variant will hit the market soon.

Asus will launch three custom-cooled versions of the RX 6700 XT. The line-up of Asus Radeon RX 6700 XT cards was designed to offer a suitable solution for each type of gamer, whether they want a compact graphics card such as the Dual model, a reliable and durable solution like the TUF Gaming card, or a high-performance GPU with outstanding cooling capabilities like the ROG Strix card.

The Asus Dual Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card features a dual-fan cooler, offering a smaller footprint than other Asus Radeon RX 6700 XT cards. The two axial-tech fans have a 0dB-fan mode and are responsible for moving the air through the 2.7-slot heatsink. The black and white shroud features a sophisticated Aura-Sync RGB LED, allowing users to synchronise with other Asus Aura Sync-compatible devices. Additionally, the card also has a backplate for extra protection and cooling.

Featuring a brushed-aluminium shroud with a triple-fan design and an RGB TUF logo, the TUF Gaming Radeon RX 6700 XT card also comes with a full-coverage backplate with screen cooling, allowing air to go through the heatsink and be exhausted through the back of the card. The 2.9-slot heatsink is cooled by three counter-rotating axial tech fans to optimise airflow.

The flagship Radeon RX 6700 XT card is the ROG Strix model. Starting with the 3-slot heatsink, it has 7 heat pipes that transfer heat to the dense array of fins and a MaxContact baseplate offering a bigger surface area and improved heat transfer from the GPU. Just like the other models, the ROG Strix Radeon RX 6700 XT uses axial-tech fans with 0dB-fan mode that counter-rotate to optimise airflow. Similar to the TUF Gaming card, this one also features a full-coverage backplate with screen cooling. Moreover, this card features an Asus Aura Sync RGB lighting strip and FanConnect II headers, allowing users to match the case fans' speeds with the GPU temperature.

The Asus Dual model is powered by a 6-pin power connector and an 8-pin power connector, while the ROG Strix and TUF Gaming come with 2x 8-pin power connectors. Asus recommends 650W PSUs to power these cards. Clock speeds for each model have not been disclosed, but we should find out on March 18th, when these GPUs start showing up at retail.

Asus has submitted its RTX 3060Ti graphics cards to EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission). As per usual, EEC listings are registered a few weeks before launch, meaning that an official release of the RTX 3060Ti before this year ends is most likely going to happen.

This listing includes multiple Asus RTX 3060Ti models and series, but that doesn't mean that they will come out all at the same time. Some might not even get a release.

The GPUs spotted on the listing include the ROG Strix series, the Dual series, the Dual Mini series, and the TUF Gaming series, all featuring a standard and a factory overclocked model. Additionally, there's a Phoenix card and 3x Turbo cards: a standard variant, a Gaming variant, and an EVO variant.

As seen on the codes in the listing, we can confirm that these cards will come with 8GB of GDDR6 memory. Remaining expected specifications include the GA104 GPU featuring 4864 CUDA cores, 152 TMUs, 152 Tensor cores, and 38 RT cores. Memory is expected to come clocked at 14GB/s on a 256-bit bus, resulting in a total bandwidth of 448 GB/s.

The RTX 3060Ti hasn't been officially revealed by Nvidia yet, but the latest rumours point to a launch on December 2nd.

Asus is set to launch six new RTX 30 series graphics cards. The ROG Strix and ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3090, GeForce RTX 3080, ROG Strix and ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 3070 models come with improved cooling systems, PCBs, and power design to “complement the new Nvidia Ampere architecture”.

Featuring 2nd gen RT cores, 3rd gen Tensor cores, and new streaming multiprocessors, the RTX 30 series offer up to 1.9X performance-per-watt over the Turing graphics cards. Capable of powering up to 8K@60Hz gaming experiences, the upcoming RTX 30 series graphics cards “represent the greatest GPU generational leap in the history of Nvidia”.

The ROG Strix graphics cards received a complete overhaul, just like we have seen in this leak. The new shroud encircles three Axial-tech fans, each with a dedicated role. The mid fan has 13 blades for high static pressure, allowing it to dissipate the heat accumulated in the GPU heat spreader. The other two 11 blade side-fans offer extra airflow for the cooling array. To reduce fan turbulence, the mid-fan rotation is opposite of the side fans.

The new ROG Strix cards feature a 2.9-slot design and a heatsink that fills most of it. The heat spreader is “polished with MaxContact technology” for increase smoothness, and high-grade capacitors, chokes, and power stages (Super Alloy Power II) were added onto the PCB. These graphics cards also feature ARGB LEDs, a vented backplate, Dual BIOS, FanConnect II headers, and an onboard voltage-sensing circuit.

The upcoming TUF Gaming RTX graphics cards use an all-metal shroud with three Axial-tech fans. Just like the new ROG Strix graphics cards, the TUF Gaming ones are “optimised for reduced turbulence” and feature a 0db mode to stop the three fans when idling. The GPU and memory have their own heatsink and the use of high-quality chokes and MOSFETs ensure that “the TUF stand tall amongst the competition” with its military-grade components.

Similarly to the ROG Strix cards, the backplate of the TUF Gaming RTX 3090 and 3080 are vented to allow the exhaustion of hot air through the case fans. These graphics cards also feature Dual BIOS and allow users to switch between profiles without the need of software.

The Asus Dual graphics cards deliver the “NVIDIA Ampere architecture experience in its purest form” with a mix of simplicity and performance. The clean-looking shroud comes with 2x Axial-tech fans that halt when the GPU is at low temperatures. The aluminium backplate and stainless steel I/O bracket avoid unwanted damage in the PCB, while the Auto-Extreme Technology ensures that components have a reduced “thermal strain” and are well placed on the PCB.

The ROG Strix, TUF Gaming, and Dual NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs are planned to release worldwide in September. Pricing has not been revealed.

We've seen a lot from ASUS this week at CES and now thanks to the announcement of the Intel NUC 9 Extreme kit, we've got another Asus launch to take a look at. The ASUS DUAL GeForce RTX 2070 MINI has arrived, specifically designed with the new NUC in mind, as well as other small form factor systems.

The ASUS DUAL GeForce RTX 2070 MINI graphics card is a two-slot GPU measuring in at 19.2 x 12.1 x 3.9 centimetres. Unlike other ‘mini' graphics cards, the Dual Mini retains the dual-fan cooler instead of opting for a single fan design and thanks to ASUS's usual graphics card feature set, you will get the benefit of 0db mode, where the fans remain silent until the GPU temperature reaches a certain threshold.

In terms of clock speeds, the RTX 2070 MINI will run at 1410MHz with a boost clock speed of 1650MHz. There are two versions though, one with standard speeds and another with a little extra overclocking, bringing the boost clock up to 1680MHz.

According to ASUS, the DUAL RTX 2070 MINI runs 10° cooler than any other RTX 2070 designed for the Intel NUC chassis thanks to its dual-fan cooler. Each graphics card also goes through a 144 hour validation testing program before shipping, so it should be all good to go when it arrives at your doorstep.

The ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 2070 MINI is launching today and an RTX 2060 MINI is also on the way sometime in Q1 2020.

This has been a big week for the graphics card world. Nvidia has officially launched the RTX 20 series and custom cards will be available at the same time as the Founder's Edition release in September. Today, we are taking a look at the launch line-up from ASUS.

The Nvidia RTX 20 series is based on the Turing architecture, which packs in new cores to handle real-time ray tracing in gaming for the first time. Nvidia's Founder's Edition cards now pack dual-fan coolers, but partners all have their own cooling designs too. You can see some of the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080Ti options from ASUS in the gallery below:

For launch, ASUS will have the following RTX 20 GPUs available in September and suggested retail pricing:

  • Asus DUAL RTX 2080Ti 011G- £1344.48
  • Asus TURBO RTX 2080Ti 11G- £1275.44
  • Asus ROG STRIX RTX 2080 08G- £1006.31
  • Asus DUAL RTX 2080 08G- £889

Obviously Asus GPUs come with their own benefits. The ROG STRIX cards for instance use new fans and a smaller fan hub to allow for longer blades and a barrier that provides more downward air pressure. This allows more air to pass through the heatsink without increasing noise levels.

The Dual series RTX 20 cards come with ‘Wing-blade' fans after previously debuting on previous Strix cards. This allows support for better dust resistance, a 0dB fan mode and better air pressure than before. Both the Dual and Strix cards have a 2.7 slot design, which allows Asus to squeeze in a larger heatsink, making it 20 percent larger on ROG Strix GPUs and 50 percent larger on Dual GPUs.

Finally, the ASUS Turbo cards still use the same blower-style cooler, which can be good for multiple GPU set-ups as less heat is dumped directly into the PC case. This time around, the fan has been upgraded to an 80mm IP5X dust resistance rated fan with dual-ball bearings.

KitGuru Says: We've got plenty of details on custom RTX 2080 and 2080Tis at this point but the RTX 2070 is getting very little spotlight at the moment. Are any of you thinking about upgrading to Turing, or is the new pricing putting you off?

Today we are going to take a look at one of the latest wireless networking products from Asus – the RP-AC52 Dual Band Wireless AC750 Range Extender. This product is designed to alleviate wireless range issues that may occur in large houses, or those with thick walls.

Asus are not best known for their networking products but we have looked at a few different models from them over the past few years and have been generally impressed with what they have to offer.

Despite being marketed as a range extender, the RP-AC52 has a number of other features to sweeten the deal.  It can also operate as a wireless access point, and also supports wireless audio streaming.

At KitGuru we are used to analysing the very first products in each new line-up. By and large, they come into the KitGuru Lab in the same way that they would off the shelf when one of our readers makes a purchase later. Today we have a very unusual first look at a product. It has been finalised, but there's no way to know how it will be configured for a customer – as SuperMicro can customise almost every aspect of a server.

A few years ago, the consumer and workstation ranges from Intel were released at similar times, as they were based on variants of the same core architecture. While the Core and Xeon ranges do still benefit from parallel core developments, the release dates are now far apart.

As a result, the Xeon processors based on Intel's Ivy Bridge architecture are only just arriving, whilst the mobile and desktop platforms have been transitioning over to Intel's Haswell for a few months now.

Our first taste of the new Ivy Bridge workstation and server processor comes from one of the heavyweights of server and workstation hardware – Supermicro. As a manufacturer of both motherboards and chassis, Supermicro is in a position to provide a more integrated solution than some of its competitors, at least in theory.

The Supermicro 7047AX-TRF/72RF SuperWorkstation comes in a chassis that can be deployed either as a pedestal tower, or as a 4U rack mounted unit, which could be handy if you plan on using a bunch of them in a render farm, or need a transportable system built into a cabinet flight case. However, the processors inside this chassis are the main stars of the show.

Supermicro 7047AX-TRF/72RF SuperWorkstation comes in an absolutely bullet-proof chassis.
