Last year, Microsoft held not one but two showcases during E3 season. The main games showcase, with all the announcements and trailers, and an ‘extended' showcase a few days later, with some additional details and deeper dives into certain games. This year, Microsoft will be following that same formula, with an Xbox and Bethesda showcase on the 12th of June, and a second ‘extended' show taking place next week.

The Xbox and Bethesda showcase will be taking place on Sunday, the 12th of June at 6PM BST. This is where we'll get new game announcements, trailers, hopefully a few release dates and our first look at Starfield gameplay.

On the 14th of June at 6PM BST, the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase Extended will air. During this second stream, Xbox will show “deeper looks” at the games announced during the main event. Previously, we would have expected Todd Howard to feature heavily in this show, with a Fallout 4-style deep dive into gameplay for Starfield, but now that Starfield has been pushed to 2023, Microsoft may save some details and gameplay snippets for closer to launch.

Currently, Xbox Game Studios have a ton of announced projects, including Fable, Perfect Dark, Everwild, Avowed, The Outer Worlds 2, Hellblade 2, and State of Decay 3. Those are just some of the games we already know about, so expect plenty of new game announcements at the end of this week.

KitGuru Says: Xbox has been very quiet since announcing the Activision Blizzard acquisition back in January, meanwhile Sony, Nintendo and other publishers have been making announcements throughout the first half of the year. It will be great to finally get some official news from the Xbox camp.

If you didn't manage to get your fill of the Doom open beta over the weekend then you still have some time to play as Bethesda has announced that it is extending it for an extra day. The Doom open beta, which contains two play modes, two maps, a handful of weapons and a wealth of character customization options, was initially supposed to shut down on the 17th of April.

However, now the beta will go on until midnight tonight (the 18th) for us here in the UK, giving you one last chance to try out Team Death match and Warpath, which is a king of the hill style mode but the points jump around the map. You will also be able to play on the Heatwave and Infernal maps.

Bethesda made the announcement over on its Twitter page. If you are planning on playing the game, then do be aware that there are a few issues, including a stuttering issue when loading up the game and using an Nvidia GPU. The Steam user reviews aren't too great either, with a ‘mostly negative' response due to several changes made to the game that differentiate it from older Doom titles.

KitGuru Says: I quite enjoyed the Doom closed beta a few weeks back but when I tried to play over the weekend I couldn't seem to find a match so I gave up. Did any of you hop on to try the new Doom multiplayer? What did you think of it?

As I'm sure most of you have heard by now, DICE is holding a Star Wars Battlefront open beta- it has actually been live for a few days already. The beta test was scheduled to finish off today but the studio has decided to extend things a bit further at the last-minute. The Battlefront beta, which includes two multiplayer modes and a co-op wave mission, will now run until Tuesday the 13th of October.

The tests over the next 24 hours are intended to stress test the server infrastructure under some extreme conditions and scenarios. This way, DICE can prepare for the worst ahead of time, rather than botching up the game's launch on the 17th of November.

The studio has warned that players may well face issues they hadn't come across earlier on in the beta: “These tests are to help us find some extreme scenarios, and that means some players may experience occasional issues such as being kicked from the game or losing connectivity”.

I have been playing the game a bit myself and while it definitely feels like a Star Wars game, the Walker Assault mission has some pretty bad balancing issues. The imperial team definitely seems to have an advantage over the Rebels, though DICE likely won't fix this until the final game launch in around five weeks time.

KitGuru Says: If there is one thing I can say about Battlefront, it's that it definitely feels like an authentic Star Wars game. However, at this point in time the Walker Assault game mode can be very frustrating and I'm not too sure how long the game will stay fun for. Have any of you been playing the Battlefront beta this weekend? What are your thoughts so far?
