While Fatshark originally intended to bring Warhammer 40,000: Darktide to PC and Xbox consoles in September, the game has now been delayed again. After being pushed out of 2021 and into ‘early 2022', the game was later pushed again to September. Now, the developers are hoping to release the game in November instead.

Adding on to an already stacked October to November period for game releases, Fatshark now plans to bring Warhammer 40,000: Darktide to PC on the 30th of November. Xbox Series X/S owners will have to wait a little longer, with the console release due to come “shortly after”, but no exact timing has been announced.

It seems that Darktide has had a bit of a messy road up to launch and now, the game will be releasing in the middle of a packed schedule. However, with Darktide poised to be a day-one Xbox Game Pass title, the game should still find a pretty big audience.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a 4-player co-op action game set in the hive city of Tertium. Expect gameplay similar to Vermintide, but with new enemies, weapons, maps and characters.

KitGuru Says: The Vermintide games were always a lot of fun, so hopefully Darktide can continue that tradition when it eventually drops.

Fatshark has had great success in recent years with Vermintide 1 & 2, both based on the Warhammer fantasy universe. For the last couple of years, the studio has been turning its attention towards the Warhammer 40,000 universe with Darktide. Following a reveal in 2020 and a delay in 2021, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide finally has a release date and a new trailer.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide was announced for PC and Xbox Series X/S back in 2020 – it was also announced as a major day-one release for Xbox Game Pass. Now after a couple of delays, the game finally has a 13th of September release date:

Following last year's delay, we were expecting a Spring 2022 launch window, so it appears that the delay was extended at some point. Darktide will now land right in the middle of Autumn.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a 4-player co-op action game set in the hive city of Tertium. Expect gameplay similar to Vermintide, but with new enemies, weapons, maps and characters.

Back in 2015, Games Workshop found a hit on its hands with the launch of Warhammer: Vermintide. The left 4 Dead style co-op title ended up selling very well and even eventually spread to consoles. A sequel has been in the works for some time now, helmed by developer ‘Fatshark'. Now, we finally have a release date, with Vermintide 2 set to hit the PC in March.

Fatshark announced today that Warhammer: Vermintide 2 would be coming to Steam on the 8th of March. Much like the original game, it is a first-person co-op horde fighter set in the Warhammer End Times universe. This time around though, you'll be taking on the Chaos armies in addition to plenty of Skaven warriors. To celebrate the announcement, a new gameplay video was put out, showing off The Tempest character:

From what we've seen so far, Vermintide 2 will retain the same general gameplay formula from the first game. However, we'll have some new characters and enemies thrown in to mix things up a bit. One thing that Fatshark was quick to point out last year is that Vermintide 2 will not feature loot box microtransactions.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 will head to the PC on the 8th of March but those who pre-order will get a chance to try out the beta on the 28th of February. A console release likely won't be too far behind, but currently we don't have a date for the Xbox One of PS4 versions.

KitGuru Says: I had a lot of fun in the original Vermintide, so if I can get a group together, I'll likely be jumping back in for the sequel. Did any of you play Vermintide when it came out? Will you be returning for Vermintide 2?

Developer Fatshark has released the first look at its upcoming sequel, Warhammer: Vermintide 2. One thing that the studio was adamant on getting across is that the only Chaos here is the faction, as the game will “NOT” have loot boxes.

That’s right, Chaos is taking the forefront this time around, but Skaven will not be too far behind as the titular vermin themselves will also be pitted against all five original heroes. The system works a little different this time, enabling the player to specialise in one of three classes, each of which has its pros and cons.

That’s not all that’s been given a good overhaul, as there will be more weapons, enemies, locations talent trees, a completely new user interface as well as mod and dedicated server support.

One thing that most certainly won’t be added is loot crates. Amidst the latest controversy, Hedge took to the subreddit to officially post on behalf of Fatshark, stating “We will NOT be selling loot boxes, or selling keys to unlock loot boxes. Loot comes from gameplay, not your wallet.”

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 will land on PC during the first quarter of 2018, with pre-orders stating that the release is January 26th. Unfortunately, for now there are no announced console versions as of yet.

KitGuru Says: I am sure this is welcome news to many who want to just buy and play a game rather than getting entangled in the politics of it all. How many of you played the first Vermintide? Do you plan on picking up the sequel?

Considering how effective the Left 4 Dead formula was, it's surprising that more developers haven't taken that idea and applied it to other settings. That's what Fatshark did with Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide however and it works pretty well; if the recent beta was anything to go by. Hopefully a few of the bugs in that experience have now been ironed out though, as the game is set to launch tomorrow on various platforms.

While we wait the coming of the long-tailed tide, the launch trailer should whet our appetites for the battle to come.

With its short section of frantic in-engine action, the above trailer does a pretty good job of representing what gameplay is like. It has slow, stealthier gameplay mixed up with frantic hack and slash action, as well as more raucous ranged combat. If players make too much noise, much like the aforementioned zombie slayer, it will draw the horde of rats down on them. The same can happen if players are doused in foetid chemicals by one of the special rat enemies that inhabit the city of Ubersreik.

Some of the settings are impressively epic

There's also packmasters, that will grab a warrior and drag them away, assassins that will dodge bullets in their attempt to slip a warpstone blade between your ribs and minigun toting gattling rats which can cut through your team like butter if you allow it.

On top of the action, there's a whole loot mechanic with crafting and upgrades to be had, letting players customise their weapon and armour load outs to make their player character truly there own.

Vermintide launches on PC tomorrow and is available for pre-order now as a standard and collector's edition – currently at 10 per cent off. Console variants will be coming in the near future.

KitGuru Says: I had a few games of this during the beta and though I'm not sure I'd want to play through the levels over and over like the difficulty and crafting systems hope you will, I can see myself battling through the campaign with a few friends.

Games Workshop has a bit of a history of hiring on odd choices or relative unknowns to make its games, but it's gone a different route with the upcoming Skaven slaughter simulator, Warhammer End Times: Vermintide by having FatShark do it. Although that developer is hardly as well known as some industry giants, it knows how to make a good melee combat game as it previously produced War of the Roses and Vikings, which should make it a good fit for Virmintide.

And judging by the new teaser gameplay trailer released at GDC, it's getting something right. While we won't know for sure how impactful or potentially repetitive the combat is in the game, from a quick look it seems oddly satifisying.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vn-9ONpZQqU']

It may be the case that even though the weapons look to have a nice weight to them and the ratty enemies crash to the ground with fun ragdoll physics that there isn't much nuance to it, but considering the important of accuracy in previous Fat Shark games' combat, I'd like to think not.

Beyond the bloody combat in the trailer, we also get our first look at the HUD, which seems pretty minimal. Players appear to have access to a ranged and melee weapon – with some touting bows and others muskets and pistols – as well as three item slots. Health appears to be the only concern other than that, so presumably there's no stamina based sprinting in this game.

Environments look pretty nice, with double moons as a backdrop and plenty of dark holes in the ancient wood and stonework, perfect for rodent enemies to come spilling out from.

Warhammer End Times: Virmintide is being developed for Xbox One, PS4 and PC but doesn't yet have an intended release date.

It seems Games Workshop has finally realised that it's sitting on a goldmine of an IP, as the last six months have seen more Warhammer games announced than the franchise has had released in its entire history. To continue that trend, another game based in the Warhammer: Fantasy universe  has been announced, called Warhammer: The End Times – Vermintide and it is pretty different from anything that's we've seen so far.

endtimes1

According to Finnish gaming magazine Pelaaja (via NeoGAF), the game is a four player, cooperative shooter/brawler, a bit like Borderlands or Left 4 Dead, but in a fantasy medieval setting. Players take on the roll of different Empire soldiers, ranging from mad flame-slinging wizards, to a wizened Witch Hunter. There will be five available characters to choose from, each with unique abilities, characteristics and back story.

Gameplay will be mission based, with the local tavern acting as a headquarters between missions. Players return there to learn of new jobs and to replenish their stats and gear. Much of their tasks will involve delving into the underbelly of the Empire city or Ubersriek, which has been taken over by Skaven.

endtimes

The game's developer said to be Fatshark, the same team behind War of the Roses and War of the Vikings. It will be interesting to see if this game's melee combat works in a similar fashion to those two titles.

endtimes2

Skaven, the oversized rat men, are a common enemy in the Warhammer: Fantasy universe, relying on numbers to overwhelm their enemies, as well as cunning and in-fighting. The developers wanted to use one of the universe's more charismatic enemies, without needing to resort to the orcs once again, feeling they were a little played out.

endtimes3

There is also said to be some form of AI director, much like Left 4 Dead had, so enemies will not attack from the same direction or in the same style when mission areas or individual quests are repeated.

KitGuru Says: This sounds interesting. It's nice to see some new enemies for once, though I hope the missions are a little less travel A-B and a little more expansive than Left 4 Dead's linear ones.
