Many Sonic fans have been waiting for a new main series game, so there are some high expectations for Sonic Frontiers. However, fans weren't happy with recently released gameplay footage, leading to calls for the project to be delayed. However, Sonic Team will be forging ahead as planned.

Soon after the debut of the first gameplay footage, “#DelaySonicFrontiers” was created, asking Sonic Team to delay the game. However, Sonic Team studio head, Takashi Iizuka, already explained that's not going to happen in an interview with VGC. According to Iizuka, the team is happy with the game's current state and confident that the game will be good.

The Sonic Team head was also asked to comment on the mixed reactions to the gameplay trailer, and he was apparently unsurprised:

“We do realise everyone is just kind of reacting to the videos that they saw, and because they don't understand what this new gameplay is, they're kind of comparing it to other games that they already know”, he added. Iizuka also stated that the team is creating a new game format for Sonic, to which they call “open zone”.

More information on Sonic Frontiers will be revealed at Gamescom and TGS in the months to come. Currently, Sonic Frontiers is scheduled to release in late 2022 PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.

The multiplayer beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has wrapped up and Treyarch has since had a chance to look over all of the feedback. Now we know what the studio plans to change for the game's final release, including nerfs to the new body armour mechanic.

For starters, some changes are being made to ‘fog of war' and the in-game minimap. During the beta, a reveal circle would appear around enemy players on the minimap by default, this functionality has now been moved to the ‘Team Link' perk. The non-perk version of the minimap will instead show a cone reflecting a player's field of view, which will be blocked by solid objects so that the minimap can't be used to see through walls. An additional HUD indicator is also being added to give players a warning when they are visible by enemies.

The biggest change comes to the new body armour mechanic. Black Ops 4 plays out more like a hero shooter and body armour within the game greatly increased the time it takes to kill enemies. The balancing for this mechanic “wasn't quite dialed in” for the beta, according to the studio's post on Reddit. With that in mind, some changes are being made.

In the final game, explosives will chip away at armour. This was always the intention, but it wasn't working in the beta. Armour will now only reduce damage taken, rather than deflect damage entirely. Finally, players will get extra score for successfully taking down an enemy with armour equipped.

There are more changes being made to the beta, which are explained over on r/Blackops4. The next beta phase for the game will focus entirely on Blackout.

KitGuru Says: It sounds like Black Ops 4 is inching closer to being a ‘hero shooter' rather than a traditional Call of Duty game. Did any of you play the multiplayer beta? What are your thoughts on it?

Treyarch has said in the past that it is aiming to make a solid PC title this year with Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, it even gave us a list of system requirements and PC-specific features way ahead of time. Now, after a proper beta test back in August, the development team has been able to implement some important changes based on the feedback from PC users.

In a new community blog post, Treyarch listed all of the changes it has managed to make thanks to beta feedback. Number one on the list is obviously optimization, which has improved the game's performance, on top of that, we can expect driver updates from both AMD and Nvidia around launch with some additional performance improvements.

Some players described mouse movement as ‘floaty' or ‘laggy', the development team agreed and managed to crack down on the problem based on player feedback. There have been some changes made to network compatibility to allow more people to connect to servers without problems and finally, many of the bugs have been found and fixed already, including those that make the game freeze or crash.

Those who want to see the PC requirements can find them, HERE. PC features will include two player split-screen, an FOV slider, SLI/CrossFire support and 4K textures.

KitGuru Says: I tried the Black Ops 3 beta on the PC and it seemed to run well. Treyarch seems to be doing a good job, which is nice to see, particularly after the mess that was Call of Duty: Ghosts. Do any of you still play Call of Duty from time to time? Are you thinking about grabbing Black Ops 3 this year?

Obisidian's upcoming crowd funded PC RPG, Pillars of Eternity, has been delayed for a few months so that the developer can incorporate beta feedback. The title was originally supposed to release by the end of this year, the new release window is ‘early 2015'.

Posting on the Pillars of Eternity forum, one of the developers wrote: “Through your help and feedback, the Pillars of Eternity team has spent the past two years creating a fun, fulfilling experience. An open development has enabled us to interact with our fans and backers in a way we weren't able to in the past, and this has really helped shape Eternity into a game that we all hoped it would become.”

The post then goes on to let people know that beta feedback was excellent and has given the developer a chance to make a better game. However, incorporating these changes/additions is bound to take time:

“To incorporate as much feedback as possible, polish every nook and cranny of the game, and make sure we don't ship a buggy game, Obsidian has decided to push the game's release into early next year. We are going to use the extra time to make Eternity shine for our backers, and a game that we were proud to call our own and would live up to your expectations.”

Pillars of Eternity has gone through a very open development cycle so backers will likely be happy to hear that Obsidian is pushing the release back a little bit  in order to incorporate feedback.

KitGuru Says: Since Pillars of Eternity is a crowd funded game, it makes perfect sense that the developer wants to appease its backers with the features and content that they want to see. The game is still slated for an early 2015 release, so it doesn't seem like it has been delayed for that long. Are any of you guys looking forward to Pillars of Eternity? Do you guys like Obsidian as a developer?

Ever since I unpacked my Oculus Rift DK1 and perhaps even more so now that I've spent a few days trying to get more than a handful of demos to work on my DK2, I've wanted to be able to touch things in virtual reality. Not just click a mouse or press a button to initiate picking something up, but really touch it. Grab it with my hand and feel like that's what I'm doing. The Razer Hydra offers some functionality there, but it's far from perfect. Dextra Robotics solution however, the Dexmo hand mount, could very well achieve that goal and soon.

The Dexmo is a spider-like, open plan glove that attaches to the back of your hand, each of your fingers and your thumb and as you grasp items in the game world, it will deliver appropriate force feedback.

“On the thumb and the index finger exoskeleton there are two additional pieces of hardware that we invested a lot of time developing, called the force feedback unit,” said Dextra Robotics' spokesperson in their AMA. “…which is essentially a miniaturized gear disk breaking system. It works like this: when the avatar you are controlling hits an digital object, a signal is sent back via our SDK to Dexmo F2 and the small actuators actuates, brakes the joint and locks the exoskeleton. When you further bend your finger inwards, a normal force will be created on your fingertip.”

dextra

When combined with the STEM limb tracking controller, it should essentially allow for full hand tracking and tactile feedback in the virtual world. There's also the potential for it to be use for motion tracking for game and movie characters.

At this time, the Dexmo is in the early stages of development and can only do on or off force, there's no regulation so soft touches or heavy impacts are out of the question. However future versions could be improved and Dextra wants you guys to help, so it's starting a Kickstarter in October.

KitGuru Says: Of course you still look like a blind spider person to your friends and family. But we can pick things up in the game you guys.

The recent Destiny public beta test managed to rake in 4.8 million players, giving Bungie plenty of feedback on things to tweak before the game's full release next month and now, the developer is ready to talk about some of the changes it has been working hard to implement.

During an interview with Eurogamer, Destiny production director, Jonty Barnes, noted that the beta really helped test the reliability of the game's servers, in addition there were no major issues or game breaking bugs to fix:

We were able to scale to the demands on the servers of all of the players. In fact we exceeded some of our targets, which was great. So we're pretty confident going into the launch that we're going to have a game that's going to work for all four consoles on day one.”

Destiny-Game-Download-Free-Pics

Barnes goes on the say that the next step is all about making sure that weapons are balanced, improving the matchmaking system and making sure that public events are as fun as they can be. The Bungie team doesn't plan to stop working on the game once it ships either, there is already an expansion pack announced for December and according to concept artist, Jesse van Dijk, they are going to be “offering new content and literally making sure there's a new thing for you to do every single day.”

After the beta, it was revealed that each planet would only have one place to explore and only four planets in total at launch. However, Barnes is insistent that there is definitely plenty of gameplay in those areas and more will open up with time: “The one thing we're not worried about Destiny is, is there enough game there? I can assure you, it's a huge undertaking. It's a huge game. I don't think anyone's got anything to worry about.”

The level cap for the game is 20 but you can progress all the way up to 30 using ‘Motes of Light'. The level caps are a little on the low side but Bungie wants users to bear in mind that progress was somewhat accelerated during the beta, you won't progress through the first eight levels quite as fast on launch day:

“There was access to certain objects you got earlier than you would have done, because we wanted to give you exposure to them in the Iron Banner. But things have changed. That's one of the reasons for wipes. There were certain things you shouldn't be getting so early. It's a different world at launch, but not entirely unfamiliar.”

Destiny releases on the Xbox One, PS4, PS3 and Xbox 360 on the 9th of September. An expansion will be released in December. A PC version is rumoured to be in the works although Bungie has yet to commit to bringing the game to the PC platform publicly.

KitGuru Says: I really enjoyed the Destiny beta, so much so that it's making me want a console. However, I think for now I am going to hold out for a PC release. Hopefully we'll get an announcement soon. Did any of you guys play the Destiny beta? Is there anything you'd like to see Bungie change in time for launch?

Lian Li has developed a new prototype case, the PC-A51. It's an aluminium chassis and comes from the same line as the popular PC-A05N but before it goes into production, Lian Li would like some consumer feedback to make sure the case is as good as it can be.

Kitguru readers are a smart and helpful bunch, I can't think of anyone better to ask. Take a look at these pictures of the prototype:

A51 1  A51 4
A51 6 A51 8

As you can see, this case does a few things differently. It puts the power supply at the front, allowing the chassis to be smaller while also allowing system builders to take advantage of all the space available.  The case also has support for 240/280mm radiators, has increased cable management with 30mm of space behind the motherboard tray and a new tool-less HDD bay system that allows for both 2.5″ and 3.5″ drives.

If you have some ideas, recommendations or general changes that you think might work better then you can let them know over on Lian Li's blog post or on its Facebook page.

Kitguru Says: It's always nice when a company looks for feedback from users before launching, it's a win win for everyone involved. What did you guys think of the new prototype? What's your favorite chassis?

One of the biggest drawbacks with touch screen input technology, is the fact that you have to look at it to figure out what you're pressing and for the very sensitive ones, it's hard to tell if you've touched something you didn't want to until it's too late. Disney of all companies has been working on a technology that it thinks will solve these hiccups, by providing tactile feedback to the toucher, by modulating the voltage going into an “electro vibration based display.”

[yframe url='https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zo1n5CyCKr0′]

These vibrations are designed to trigger the nerve endings in our fingers to offer the feeling of ridges, edges and troughs, thereby creating the potential for not only keyboard-like, virtual protrusions, but the ability to feel an object before buying it, or perhaps even offer a more… intimate, interaction over webcams.

While not Disney's original intention, this Oculus Rift porn game just got a lot more interesting

Some uses for the tech – according to Disney – include the conveying of height and depth on maps, interaction with 3D renderings and potentially providing blind people with the potential to augment their darkened reality, by having an on the move, tactile display that they can interact with.

KitGuru Says: Some interesting ideas brought forward with this technology. What sort of uses could you guys see it having?

Anyone that used ebay back in the day as a buyer, or has used it at any time during its life as a seller, will know that feedback is incredibly important. Not only does it give people an idea of the quality of service you provide, but maintaining that 100 per cent positive feedback rating can be deceptively hard as well as somewhat addictive. One company has fallen into this obsessive category, by announcing its intention to take a buyer to court, for not removing a piece of negative feedback when requested.

Ohio based Med Express, is the company in question. It sells old medical equipment like microscopes, an accessory of which, is what one buyer, Amy Nicholls paid $175 for earlier this year. She also paid $12 for shipping, but didn't bank on receiving an extra $1.44 charge in postage duty when the item arrived.

medexpress

While some might think Nicholls overreacted a little, she ultimately gave Med Express a piece of negative feedback, citing the undiscussed postage duty. Med Express offered to refund the duty to her if she removed the feedback. She refused and now she's being taken to court.

However she's not alone. Public Citizens Litigation group is backing her, one member of which described the lawsuit as completely frivolous and intends to seek attorney fees during the case. In a letter explaining the group's actions he said:

“The point she made in her message to you was that the problem wasn't the money but the hassle… That opinion might be right, or it might be wrong, but harbouring it and expressing it is not a tort. And it is certainly no reason to seek damages, attorney fees, and an injunction. Consumers might well take this sort of bullying into account when they are thinking about whether to do business with Med Express.”

He also alluded to the idea to that perhaps Med Express only has strong positive feedback so far, because it has threatened other customers with legal action.

KitGuru Says: Not sure I feel sorry for anyone in this situation  Nicholls overreacted by giving negative feedback for an easily fixable error, while Med Express is silly for using legal action over a single bit of bad press. Now it's far worse.

[Thanks Ars]
