Firefox 6 is due for release tomorrow, but Mozilla decided to upload the installation files a few days early. If you want, you can grab it now from their FTP.

You can grab the Windows, Mac and Linux versions by clicking on our links. There are no details of the changes, well not until tomorrow anyway but Mozilla are claiming huge speed improvements, and we find these immediately noticeable, especially if you have a lot of tabs open when starting up.

There are also some user interface changes, and design enhancements, such as when you are browsing a website, domain names are highlighted, to make it easier to see the site you are browsing by a quick glance. There is also a new plugins check so people can check if they are running outdated versions, with easy to update options.

Apparently the Linux version receives a huge performance boost, so if you install to try, let us know your findings.

Kitguru says: Better or worse? You tell us.

Mozilla have released Firefox 4 Beta 8, the last preview it will release this year before it makes a leap into the final version in 2011.

Beta 8 appeared last night, a day later than original planned and is now available for download on the official Mozilla download site. It is also available as an update for current preview users.

This latest beta includes a simplified setup for Firefox Sync, Mozillas bookmark, password and open tabs synchronisation service. It also offers additional support for WebGL over Windows and Macintosh OSX and it has a new improved extension manager that silently will update any installed addons.

Beta 8 features 1,400 bug fixes since the last beta which was released six weeks ago. Javascript in Beta 8 is said to run faster than Beta 7's implementation, around five percent faster according to tests run by Computerworld.

In other news Mozilla have also just released a new beta of the mobile browser which runs on Android powered smartphones.

If you want to try the new beta from Mozilla, check it out over here.

A new version of Firefox 4 Beta was released which proves to be faster than the previous build. As a self proclaimed Firefox addict I spent most of yesterday playing with the new beta to judge the performance gains.

The new version is clearly faster when running Javascript thanks to the JagerMonkey ‘just-in-time' compiler. There is also more support for hardware accelerated graphics. Hardware acceleration has been added for Mac OS X and Windows XP. Mozilla have also said that Firefox 4 Beta includes support for WebGL, a standard technology for running 3D graphics in a browser without requiring a plug in.

I have found that many pages load faster, especially those more intensive designs which could lag a little. We especially like the addition of DirectX hardware acceleration technology in Windows and OpenGL within Macintosh OSx.

The popularity of Firefox continues to grow and is the second most popular browser online, behind Microsoft's Internet Explorer. IE9 public beta has been received with mixed feedback from the public and press.

KitGuru says: If you are a Firefox lover, then be sure to check out the latest beta, we loved it.

Hands up if you like Firefox? Most KitGuru readers are well educated people if our statistics are anything to go by, as most of you are using Firefox right now.

Mozilla have just released the first beta of the 4.0 beta client which is built around the Gecko 2.0 Web Platform layout engine. Before you all rush to download however, just be aware that the plug ins you may currently be using will not work with the new client. Not until developers update their code anyway.

So whats new? Here are some of the main changes:

  • Add-ons Manager: More space to efficiently manage your favorite add-ons, plugins and themes.
  • HD Video: The future WebM format is supported and promises HD-quality hardware accelerated HTML5 video on the web.
  • HTML5 Support: Better HTML parsing, support for HTML5 form controls and also runs the latest web apps based on HTML5 such as Google's Gmail and Yahoo's Mail interface for the mobile phones.
  • Full WebGL support for in-browser 3D rendering.

As well as the main changes Mozilla are keen to promote faster performance all round as well as security enhancements to protect the educated user base.

You can get it now for Windows, Linux and Macintosh OSX – over here.

KitGuru says: Hit or miss? discuss your views on the beta client in our forums.
