Team Group's gaming brand, T-Force, has introduced its latest gaming SSD line, including the G70, G50, and respective Pro variants. These four M.2-2280 form factor SSDs are all PCIe Gen 4×4 interface-compatible and come equipped with InnoGrit controllers.

To ensure optimum performance, the G70, G50, and respective Pro versions are equipped with proprietary ultra-thin graphene heatsinks. Alternatively, the G70 Pro also comes with an aluminium alloy heatsink for those who may not have an SSD heatsink at hand. Both PC and PS5 gamers can take advantage of these SSDs, as the heatsinks were designed to fit within the PS5's expansion slot.

The T-Force G70 and G70 Pro SSDs boast read speeds of up to 7000MB/s and up to 4TB storage capacities, while the G50 and G50 PRO SSDs can read up to 5000MB/s and up to 2TB storage capacities. Both standard and Pro versions of these SSDs support SLC caching, but only the latter has a DRAM cache available for increased performance. The new T-Force PCIe 4.0 SSDs support S.M.A.R.T. monitoring software, allowing users to monitor the health of their SSDs.

Team Group's T-Force G70, G70 Pro (with and without the heatsink), G50, and G50 Pro PCIe 4.0 SSDs will be available in late December.

MSI is expanding the G series with two new 27-inch curved gaming monitors. Featuring high refresh rates, a 1500R curvature on the screen, and low response times, both the MSI Optix G27C7 and the Optix G27CQ4P aim to provide gamers with a smoother experience.

The MSI Optix G27C7 features a Full HD VA panel with a 165Hz refresh rate, 1ms MPRT, 8-bit colour depth, 250nits of brightness, and a 3000:1 contrast ratio, covering 93% of the DCI-P3 wide colour gamut and 118% of the sRGB spectrum. The G27C7 also features FreeSync Premium, Night Vision, to brighten up the darker areas of the screen, and multiple gaming modes to choose from. Additionally, this monitor also uses anti-flicker technology and blue light reduction to reduce the users' eye fatigue.

In terms of I/O, the G27C7 includes 2x HDMI 2.0 ports, a DisplayPort 1.4, and an audio-out 3.5mm jack. The included stand only lets users tilt (-5º to 20º) the monitor, but there is VESA 100x100mm mount support, so ergonomics can be upgraded with a third-party monitor stand or arm.

The MSI Optix G27CQ4P uses a QHD VA panel featuring a 165Hz refresh rate, 1ms MPRT, 8-bit colour depth, 250nits of brightness, and a 3000:1 contrast ratio, resulting in a coverage of 91.8% of the DCI-P3 colour space, and 115.4% of the sRGB colour gamut. Just like the G27C7, it features FreeSync Premium, Night Vision, multiple game modes, anti-flicker technology, and blue light reduction.

Connectivity options are also similar to the G27C7, including 2x HDMI 2.0 ports, DisplayPort 1.2, and a 3.5mm audio jack.  There's also VESA 100x100mm support, but the included stand of the G27CQ4P already offers decent ergonomic capabilities, including tilt ( -5º to 20º) and height adjustment (130mm range).

MSI hasn't disclosed pricing and availability of the MSI Optix G27C7 and Optix G27CQ4P yet. You can learn more about the MSI Optix G27C7 HERE, and the Optix G27CQ4P HERE.

We have the full spec sheet, alongside some early indications of performance.

The post Intel unveils full specs for 8th Gen G-series processors with RX Vega M graphics first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Last year, Intel and AMD made its collaboration official, with plans to launch a new laptop chip packing an Intel CPU and an RX Vega M graphics chip. Now with CES kicking off this week, the company has revealed more official details, revealing specific specs for all five G-series processors.

While these are technically 8th Gen Core processors, they do not use the Coffee Lake architecture that launched in October. Instead, these processors will pack a 14nm+ Kaby Lake CPU, fused with Radeon graphics. These processors will appear in compact systems, laptops and devices like the Intel NUC throughout the year.

Here is the full spec sheet:

CPU Name: i7-8809G i7-8709G i7-8706G i7-8705G i5-8305G
Cores/Threads: 4/8 4/8 4/8 4/8 4/8
CPU Base/Boost (GHz): 3.1/4.2 3.1/4.1 3.1/4.1 3.1/4.1 2.8/3.8
Radeon GPU: RX Vega M GH RX Vega M GH RX Vega M GL RX Vega M GL RX Vega M GL
Compute Units: 24 24 20 20 20
Stream Processors: 1536 1536 1280 1280 1280
GPU Base/Boost (MHz): 1063/1190 1063/1190 931/1011 931/1011 931/1011
Texture Units: 96 96 80 80 80
ROPS: 64 64 32 32 32

There are a few other key details. All of these chips will support DDR4-2400 memory. GPU bandwidth for the RX Vega M GH is 204.8 GB/s whereas bandwidth on the RX Vega M GL is 179.2 GB/s. The HBM2 clock speed on Vega M GH is 1.6 Gbps while the GL version has its HBM2 clocked at 1.4 Gbps. The top of the range i7-8809G can have its HBM2 overclocked as well as the GPU core, the rest will have locked clock speeds.

All of the i7 G-series processors come with 8MB of L3 cache, the Core i5 variant has 6MB. Finally, TDP for the i7-8809G and i7-8706G is 100W, while the rest of the processors have a TDP of 65W. The Radeon GPUs found on these processors will be supported by Intel, though you will need to install the Radeon graphics drivers from AMD.

According to Intel's presentation, an i7-8809G and i7-8709G should be 1.07 to 1.13 times faster than a current generation GTX 1060 Max-Q laptop. These chips should also be able to offer up to 9.3 hours of battery life, as long as nothing too intensive is running.

KitGuru Says: We'll be looking forward to seeing these processors out in the wild over the course of this year. It will make for some interesting benchmarks/comparisons, with Ryzen Mobile, Nvidia Max-Q and G-series i7s all competing.

Smach Zero, a portable gaming device that runs Steam OS and is based on an x86 system-on-chip, will hit the market next year and will cost like an inexpensive desktop PC. The portable console, which is widely known as “Steamboy” will be a rather unique device that will not be too expensive, but its performance will hardly be enough to play any demanding games.

The Smach Zero is based on AMD’s embedded G-series system-on-chip with up to four “Jaguar” cores and an integrated DirectX 11-class graphics processor with 128 stream processors, reports Ars Technica. The console will be equipped with 4GB of DDR3 memory, 32GB NAND flash memory, an SD card slot, a 5” multi-touch display with 1280*720 resolution, tactile gamepads, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity and so on.

The “Steamboy” will run Valve’s Steam OS and will be compatible with around 1000 games sold using Steam online store. The input scheme will be “similar to the latest version” of Valve's official Steam controller, reports Polygon web-site.

steamboy1-600x337

The Smach Zero will be a unique device that will allow playing PC games while on the go. However, given very limited performance of AMD’s G-series system-on-chip, it is unlikely that the console will run new games such as free online pokies games with fine framerates. It is possible that the device will run old titles like Half-Life 2 with decent speed, but it will be impossible to play any new games using the console.

The gaming device will ship in 2016 and will cost $299 or €299.

KitGuru Says: While the Smach Zero is a unique product, its performance is too low already and next year the device will be considered as obsolete. As a result, it will hardly be commercially successful.

The future is embedded – or so we're being told. From AMD to Intel, the word on the street is that everything should have some kind of computer in it – and all of them should be connected. If the entire globe is part of the ‘computing continuum', then – surely – there must be some cash in it, right?  KitGuru ponders a career as an embedded guru and wonders what kind of outlay is needed to begin.

With the launch of the AMD Gizmo Explorer Kit, you can begin an embedded development business from as little as $199.

Nice.

But what do you get from your money, is it worthwhile doing and will it be popular?

The basis of the kit is The Gizmo Board, which is a 4″ square mainboard that comes complete with an integrated G-Series APU. With this alone, you already have access to SATA, USB, Display Port, PCIe, SPI, I2C, GPIO, PWM, ADC Input, DAC Output, Reset, JTAG header, VGA video output, Audio input/output and Ethernet. Enough to be starting with you might think?

But the kit also includes something called an ‘Explorer Board‘, which – the promotional literature says – comes with a ‘sea of holes for prototyping'. It also has a neat little LCD display – your embedded baby's first ‘voice' to communicate with the outside world. You will be so proud.

Your money also gets you 20 hours of free access to the JTAG development tool from SAGE, after which – presumably – there will be a small charge.

There's also a 30-day license for the SAGE EDK – which will help you build software – and you'll get a quick start DVD etc.

For $199 - buy yourself a new future

KitGuru says: We likes the ‘Pi' concept and we like this Embedded starter kit. Low price of entry should make it accessible and – according to the site – they sold through the first batch in no time. Seems like a lot of people are preparing for a better, more embedded, tomorrow.
