This week brings the release of a new high-end CPU air cooler from Deepcool. We first got a look at the Assassin III back at CES 2019 and the cooler is marketed as the direct competitor to the legendary Noctua NH-D15, which has been the best in class for what seems an eternity.

The Assassin III is a dual tower cooler featuring seven heat pipes, which are said to be sintered and grooved internally, with a nickel-plated copper thermal transfer plate. Deepcool have rated the Assassin III with a 280W TDP, meaning it should be capable of cooling even the hottest of CPUs. A total of forty-one aluminium cooling fins per tower are cooled by two all black 140mm high flow PWM fans with fluid dynamic bearings.

Deepcool have told us they expect great cooling performance from the Assassin III and that it should even provide better temperatures than the Noctua NH-D15. According to Deepcool, the Assassin III can offer an improvement of at least 1°C at 200W TDP over the NH-D15.

The Deepcool Assassin III will cover a wide variety of CPU sockets, including all major AMD and Intel desktop platforms. However, there are currently no plans for the Assassin III to cover large HEDT CPUs like AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper, which does seem a shame since the third generation of Threadripper CPUs have just been officially announced by AMD.

With pricing of the Assassin III likely to be in the region of £80, it will not only compete with the Noctua NH-D15 in terms of performance, but on price too. Deepcool recently announced, through its official Facebook page, that the Assassin III will be available to purchase from the 24th of September and users in the UK will be able to buy one from Amazon. We will have a full review of the Assassin III coming soon.

KitGuru says: With CPU manufacturers targeting higher core counts with increased TDPs, a high-end air cooler is likely to be on many people's shopping lists.

Deepcool is a Chinese manufacturer of PC cooling solutions, cases and power supplies. It is hard to believe they have been around for over 20 years now, but over the last few years they have definitely become more and more popular. Today, we will be looking at one of the latest additions from their extensive range of cooling products – the Deepcool Castle 240EX, which is a partially RGB-lit All-In-One liquid cooler (since RGB lighting is only applied to the pump and not the fans) from their line of Gamer Storm branded products.

With a very similar feel to their Castle 240 RGB, which we reviewed last year, the Gamer Storm Castle 240EX has some subtle changes to set it apart from previous versions. However, have these changes been enough to see an improvement in performance or just aesthetics?

A well-documented feature of the Castle 240EX is their patented anti-leak technology, which features an EPDM pressure relief bag, with one side of the bag exposed to air and the other side surrounded by coolant inside the radiator. When internal pressure of the radiator exceeds atmospheric pressure, the bag will contract to create a void and increase the internal volume of the radiator. Therefore, relieving pressure and lowering the risk of a leak.

An all new pump design has been implemented in the Castle 240EX, which is Driven by a 3-phase, x-life motor, and a pressure charging impeller. Deepcool state the new pump design is more powerful and less audible than previous generations. A copper thermal transfer plate sits at the base of the pump, with 25% more fins which increases heat absorption area considerably.

At the moment there are no retail outlets currently listing the Castle 240EX for purchase in the UK. However it is available for $129.99 in the U.S through Amazon. The Castle 240EX represents value for money while incorporating some great features, such as RGB lighting and anti-leak technology.

Today, Deepcool has officially launched its very own anti-leak technology, aiming to set itself apart in the AIO liquid cooling market. The patented technology achieves automated pressure balance, improving the operation safety of all-in-one liquid coolers.

In future Deepcool AIOs, anti-leak technology will be included. Instead of having a valve on the radiator, you will get an elastic pressure-relief bag that sits in an open space inside the radiator. One side is exposed to air while the other side is dipped in coolant. When the internal pressure increases or decreases, the bag will expel air and re-inflate to compensate. By doing this, increased pressure in the AIO is relieved, while drops in pressure are compensated for. All in all, this self-pressurising system lowers the chance of a leak occurring.

The pressure relieving system is heat and corrosion resistant, so it should stand the test of time. The first cooler to show this tech off will be the Deepcool Gamer Storm Captain 240 PRO- we have a review of this very cooler coming up tomorrow, so keep an eye out for that.

KitGuru Says: AIO coolers have generally been safe to use for years now but it is nice to see a company not ignoring the potential issues and putting extra safety precautions in place. Are any of you currently shopping around for a new AIO liquid cooler? Would a feature like this be of interest to you?

The Deepcool Gamer Storm Lucifer K2 processor cooler features massive aluminium heatsink (with more than 1,000,000mm² total area) with six copper heatpipes, copper base and a high-quality 120mm slim PWM fan. According to the manufacturer, the cooling system can cool-down CPUs with up to 130W thermal design power with 600±150 – 1800±10% revolutions per minute.

The Lucifer K2 cooler is compatible with all modern and outdated microprocessors from Advanced Micro Devices and Intel Corp.

The Lucifer K2 will be available globally on early September 2015. Recommended price of the product is $79.99.

KitGuru Says: The original Lucifer cooler was a good performer and the Lucifer K2 has all chances to be a nice cooling system as well. Unfortunately, it is not exactly affordable, but good things tend to cost more than ordinary products.
