ViewSonic has just expanded the Omni gaming monitor lineup with three new models. Ranging from FHD to QHD, all three have Fast IPS panels featuring a 165Hz refresh rate for a smooth gameplay experience.

Starting from the bottom, the VX2428 is a 24-inch FullHD monitor packing a Fast IPS panel with a 165Hz refresh rate and 0.5ms response time. Covering 104% of the sRGB colour gamut, this panel offers a typical brightness of 250 nits, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, and an 8-bit (6-bit+FRC) colour depth. Then, there's the VX2728J, packing a 27-inch Fast IPS panel with a 165Hz refresh, FullHD resolution and 0.5ms response time. This one covers up to 132% of the sRGB spectrum but has the same brightness, contrast and colour depth as the VX2428.

Both monitors support AMD FreeSync Premium and AdaptiveSync and are VESA ClearMR-certified. The included stand of the VX2428 only lets you tilt, but the one on the VX2728J also allows you to swivel, make height adjustments and pivot. Connectivity options are the same for both, each having a DisplayPort, 2x HDMI 1.4 ports, and a 3.5mm audio-out jack. Lastly, there are two 2W speakers on each of these models.

The other monitor is the VX2728J-2K, which packs a 27-inch IPS panel with a 165Hz refresh rate, QHD resolution and 0.5ms response time. With 250nits of typical brightness, a 1000:1 contrast ratio and a 10-bit colour depth, this monitor's sRGB colour gamut coverage is rated at 131%. The included stand is the same as the VX2728J, but like the other two, there's support for a VESA 100x100mm monitor arm. This model also comes with two 2W speakers, but connectivity options are slightly different, featuring a 3.5mm audio-out jack, 2x HDMI 2.0 ports, and a DisplayPort.

UK and EU pricing is unknown, but in the US, the VX2428 will go for $159. The VX2728J will cost $200, and the VX2728J-2K will cost $250.

KitGuru says: Overall, these monitors look to be priced decently, but we're especially curious about the VX2728J-2K. It's not every day we see a high refresh rate QHD monitor with a proper ergonomic stand for that price.

ASRock is well known for its motherboards, but in recent years we've seen the company branching out into new areas. Soon, ASRock will be unveiling its first set of gaming monitors, reportedly starting off with five displays.

As found by @momomo_us, ASRock has submitted five monitors to KCC (Korea's FCC). Starting with PG34WQ15R, this is a 34-inch curved monitor with a VA panel, 3440×1440 resolution, 165Hz refresh rate, and FreeSync Premium support. The other curved monitor is the PG27Q15R, but the specifications are unknown. Still, judging by its name, it should feature a QHD 27-inch VA curved panel.

Then, we have the PG27FF, which seems like a standard FHD monitor with an IPS panel, 165Hz refresh rate and support for FreeSync Premium as well. Another flat panel listed by ASRock is the PG32QF, but like the PG27Q15R, the specifications weren't detailed. Nonetheless, the name suggests it will come with a 32-inch panel with QHD resolution. The last one is the PG42U, which should be a large 42-inch 4K (UHD) monitor, judging by the name.

Unfortunately, there is no word on when these monitors will be officially announced and we do not know if these monitors will be sold worldwide, or in just a few select countries.

Amazon Prime Day has officially arrived and there are tons of deals to be had. Not only can Prime members claim over 30 games for free this week, but there are also loads of discounts on PC gaming gear, making now a perfect time to pick up an upgrade. After doing some digging, it looks like now is an especially good time to pick up a new gaming monitor.

At the entry-level, there are Prime Day deals on a bunch of high refresh rate 1080p monitors, starting at just £129.99 for the LG UltraGear Gaming 24GN53A-B, knocking almost 30% off its usual price. The MSI Optix G27X6 is also a good option here, coming in at £147.25 but offering a larger display, 165Hz refresh rate and 1500R curvature.

AOC and ASUS also have worthy considerations in this price bracket, including the AOC Gaming 24G2U at £153.99 and the ASUS TUF Gaming VG258QM, offering a 280Hz refresh rate and DisplayHDR 400 at just £175. If you are after something with a bit more resolution, then there are plenty of options on that front too. The Samsung Odyssey G5 is currently down to £229, offering 1440p resolution at 144Hz, 1ms response time, FreeSync Premium and HDR10.

At £399, you can make the jump to an AOC Gaming U28G2XU, offering 4K resolution at 144Hz, 1ms response time, DisplayHDR 400 and FreeSync Premium Pro. At this price point, the AOC Gaming monitor is absolutely worth the price, coming in significantly lower than the £590 launch price from our review.

The Samsung Odyssey AG700 also offers 4K/144Hz gaming and HDMI 2.1, which will support 120Hz with next-gen consoles, but it is more expensive, coming in at £480.

Perhaps the best monitor deal of the day comes from ASUS. If you want the fastest monitor money can buy, then you'll want to look at the ROG Swift PG259QNR, an esports focused monitor with a blazing fast 360Hz refresh rate. Typically, this monitor costs upwards of £800, but for Prime Day, it has dropped to £499.

Acer is releasing three new gaming monitors: the Predator X28, the Predator X38 S and the Predator CG437K S. Each of these monitors is aimed at a specific niche of gamers, offering high refresh rates, Ultra-HD resolution, HDR support, and low response times.

All of these Acer monitors will be available later this year. The Predator X28 will be the first to release, scheduled to launch in August and priced at $1,299.99/€1,199. The Predator X38 S will follow in September, priced at $1,999.99/€2,199. Lastly, the Predator CG437K S is coming in November for $1,799/€1,599.

As for the specifications, the Predator X28 is a 4K monitor with a 28-inch Agile Splendor IPS panel with a 155Hz refresh rate and 1ms G2G response time. This monitor is VESA DisplayHDR 400 certified and supports Nvidia G-Sync and G-Sync Esports Mode and Nvidia Reflex Latency Analyzer.

Moreover, this monitor has Acer LightSense, ColorSense and ProxiSense to automatically adjust the colour based on the environment's lighting, and Blue Light Shield Pro to reduce blue light emissions. All this while maintaining a ΔE<1 colour accuracy.

The Predator X38 S is an ultrawide curved (2300R) monitor with an Agile-Splendor IPS panel boasting a 3840×1600 resolution, 175Hz refresh rate, and 0.3ms G2G response time. Covering 98% of the DCI-P3 colour space, this monitor has a VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification and comes factory calibrated with a ΔE<2.

Like the Predator X28, the X38 S features Nvidia Reflex Latency Analyzer and Nvidia G-Sync Esports Mode, but instead of standard G-Sync, it supports G-Sync Ultimate. It also features Acer LightSense and Acer ColorSense to adjust brightness and colour automatically and a set of Predator Game modes to choose from.

Last but not least, there's the Predator CG437K S, a G-Sync compatible monitor with a 43-inch panel and 2x HDMI 2.1 ports for 4K 144Hz gaming with VRR enabled. There's also a USB hub with a pair of USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, a USB-C port, a KVM switch, and synchronisable RGB strips.

Thanks to its 1,000nits of brightness, the monitor has been VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certified. Additionally, it's also said to cover 90% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and come with a ΔE<1 colour accuracy out-of-the-box. Similar to the Predator X 28, it comes with Acer LightSense, ColorSense, and ProxiSense to adjust the monitor settings by itself.

MSI will announce various products during CES 2021, but there are a couple of monitors that shine through the rest – the Oculux NGR253R and the MPG Artymis 343CQR. Aimed at gamers, both MSI monitors offer high refresh-rates, low response times, and Adaptive Sync.

Featuring a 24.5-inch Rapid IPS panel with a FullHD resolution, 360Hz refresh rate, and 1ms G2G response times, the MSI Oculux NXG253R offer wide viewing angles and vivid colours while also providing users with unparalleled performance, all in a single display.

The Oculux NGR253R is a G-Sync compatible monitor, offering tear and lag-free gaming sessions, and comes with a built-in Nvidia Reflex Latency Analyzer so that users can test how fast their monitors are by measuring the time it takes for the display to update after a button click. Additionally, the monitor comes with 2x HDMI 2.0 ports, a DisplayPort 1.4, an audio-out jack, and multiple USB ports for your devices.

The MSI MPG Artymis 343CQR features a 34-inch display with a 1000R curvature, UWQHD resolution (3440x1440p), 1ms response times, and a 165Hz refresh rate. The 1000R curvature creates an immersive visual experience and perfectly fits into the user's field of view, reducing the strain even when looking at the edges of the display.

Some features of the MPG Artymis 343CQR include Adaptive Brightness 2.0, NightVision AI, Smart RGB, and AI Crosshair for a better gaming experience. Adaptive Brightness 2.0 automatically adjusts the brightness based on the ambient light in the room, while Night Vision also adjusts the brightness automatically but with the objective of brightening up darker scenes.

MSI's presentation at CES 2021 is scheduled for January 13th, at 19:00PM GMT.

KitGuru says: Out of these two MSI monitors, would you choose the high refresh-rate Oculux NXG253R or the curved and ultrawide MPG Artymis 343CQR?

Phillips is expanding its gaming monitor portfolio with two new entries: the 242E1GAEZ and the 272E1GAEZ. Both share similar specifications, but the first is a 24-inch model, while the latter is 27-inch.

Both the 242E1GAEZ and the 272E1GAEZ have VA panels with FullHD resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, and 4ms G2G response times (1ms MPRT). These panels have an 8-bit colour depth and 350nits of brightness, but the contrast ratio and colour gamut coverage differ. The 242E1GAEZ has a 3000:1 contrast ratio and covers 96.1% of the NTSC and 125.9% of the sRGB colour spectrum. The 272E1GAEZ has a 3500:1 contrast ratio, covering 101.5% of the NTSC and 121.9% of the sRGB colour gamut.

To prevent tearing, both monitors feature AMD FreeSync Premium. To enhance the visual experience, there's a set of colour profiles to choose from, depending on the content you're displaying, and the SmartContrast feature, which automatically adjusts the colours by analysing the content displayed. These monitors also feature flicker-free and LowBlue Mode to reduce the user's eye strain when using the monitor for long periods of time.

Available video outputs on these monitors include an HDMI port and a DisplayPort. Additionally, there's 2x 3W speakers and an audio-out 3.5mm jack. The stand allows you to adjust the monitor's height by 100mm and tilt it from -5º to 20º, but you can improve its ergonomics through the 100x100mm VESA mount.

Pricing and availability of these monitors have not been disclosed. You can learn more about the 242E1GAEZ HERE, and the 272E1GAEZ HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think about Phillips' upcoming gaming monitors? Would you choose the higher pixel density of the 242E1GAEZ over the bigger screen of the 272E1GAEZ?

iiyama is expanding its G-Master line with two curved Red Eagle monitors. Both the G2466HSU and the GB3266QSU were designed with curved screens, low response times and high refresh rates for gaming.

This 8-bit panel has a 1ms MPRT response time, typical brightness of 250 nits and a contrast ratio of 3000:1. The monitor is certified with FreeSync Premium for a tear-free gaming experience, multiple colour presets to choose from, and Black Tuner to brighten up darker areas. Acer is about to expand its lineup of gaming monitors with six new models targeting a wide range of price points and specifications. Acer is also the first brand with TÜV Rheinland Eyesafe-certified gaming monitors, capable of filtering out the blue light without losing the vividness of colours.

Victor Chien, president of digital display business at Acer, stated that the new Acer monitors “feature the industry’s newest technology”, providing gamers with smooth visuals and enhanced ergonomics. The new Acer Predator and Nitro monitors were designed to “appeal to the most power-hungry gamers as well as those who just want to have fun”.

First, we have the Predator XB273U NV certified with TÜV Rheinland Eyesafe and featuring Acer VisionCare 4.0, which includes LightSense, AdaptiveLight, ColorSense and ProxiSense to automatically adjust the monitor's brightness and colour temperature depending on the ambient light, reducing the user's eye strain.

This monitor features a 27-inch QHD Agile-Splendor IPS with a 170Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time. This 8-bit panel covers 95% of the DCI-P3 colour spectrum and is calibrated to offer a Delta E<1. Additionally, it's certified with VESA DisplayHDR 400 and features RGB LightSense to synchronize the “screen’s colours to music, media and eSports tournaments” and an ergonomic stand that allows users to adjust the monitor to their liking.

The Predator XB273U NV will be available in EMEA and NA in January 2021 priced at €549/$549.99.

The 24.5-inch Predator XB253Q GW is NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible and features a FullHD IPS panel that can achieve a 280Hz refresh rate and a 0.5ms (GTG) response time, making it perfectly suited for first-person shooters. This monitor also features RGB LightSense and a similar ergonomic stand to the XB273U NV.

The Predator XB253Q GW will be available in EMEA and NA in January 2021 for €449/$429.99.

The XB323U GX features a 32-inch QHD panel with up to a 270Hz refresh rate and up to a 0.5ms (GTG) response time. Capable of covering 99% of the AdobeRGB colour gamut, the XB323U GX features an 8-bit panel with local dimming and is certified with VESA DisplayHDR 600. Additionally, it also features an ergonomic stand capable of tilting, swivelling, adjusting the height and pivoting.

The Predator XB323U GX is planned to release in EMEA this December, and in NA in January 2021. The MSRP will be €999/$899.99.

The last Predator monitor is the 34-inch X34 GS, which features a UWQHD Agile-Splendor IPS with a 180Hz refresh rate and a 0.5ms (GTG) response time. Certified with VESA DisplayHDR 400 and compatible with Nvidia G-Sync, this monitor covers 98% of the DCI-P3 spectrum. It also features an ergonomic stand with similar capabilities to that of the other Predator monitors and 2x 7W built-in speakers.

The Predator X34 GS is scheduled to release in EMEA and NA in December 2020 for €1099/$999.99.

The Eyesafe certified Nitro XV272U KV comes with a QHD Agile-Splendor IPS panel with a 0.5ms GTG response time and a 170Hz refresh rate. The 27-inch display covers 95% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and comes calibrated, ensuring a DeltaE<1. Featuring LightSense, ColorSense and ProxiSense technologies, the Nitro XV272U KV also adjust automatically to the ambient light to provide a “more comfortable experience” to the user. Just like the Predator monitors, the Nitro XV272U KV also comes with an ergonomic stand capable of tilt, swivel, height adjustment and pivot.

Planned to release by December in both NA and EU, the Nitro XV272U KV will be priced at €469/$399.99.

For last, we have the Nitro XV272 LV, featuring a FullHD Agile-Splendor IPS panel with a 165Hz refresh rate that covers 90% of the DCI-P3 colour spectrum. This monitor also comes factory calibrated to provide a Delta E<1 rating. A similar ergonomic stand to that of the XV272U KV is also included.

AOC and Porsche Design have partnered up using both the sophistication and functionality of Porsche Design and AOC's display technology to create new high-performance gaming monitors with sleek aesthetics.

Porsche Design has been known for creating exceptional designs for unique lifestyle products. The company's design core idea is to “optimise form and function by discovering new and innovative solutions”. On the other hand, we have AOC, a subsidiary of the world's largest LCD monitor manufacturer, which focus on delivering high-performance gaming monitors through its AOC Gaming and AGON product lines.

With this partnership, both companies will have the chance to apply their strongest points to create new gaming monitors, with the first one coming in autumn 2020. The gaming monitor market (+144Hz) had a 76% YoY at the end of 2019. Given this increase in popularity, Porsche Design will be able to provide “exclusive lifestyle-brand access” to more gamers. Using their experience in motorsports, monitors will be perfect for the company's transition from sports to esports.

Jan Becker, CEO of Porsche Design, stated the company already has an “exclusive range of consumer electronic products” and with the growth of the gaming market, gaming monitors were the best fit into Porsche Design's product lineup.

Nico Vernieuwe, SVP branded business at TPV Technology (AOC parent company), claimed that Porsche Design “heritage goes perfectly with AOC's state-of-the-art display technology”, allowing both companies to provide gamers with a unique gaming experience through stylish and high-performance monitors.

This week, a leaked PDF has given us some early details on Alienware's future gaming monitor plans. The document gives us most of the important details surrounding the AW2721D and AW3821DW, including talk of a ‘Fast IPS' panel, G-Sync and high refresh rates.

According to the leaked PDF, both monitors will use “Fast IPS” panels capable of delivering better response time and higher refresh rates than conventional ones. With these features, Dell hopes to make IPS panels “popular among gamers”.

Starting with the Dell Alienware AW2721D, this 27-inch monitor will come with a QHD “Fast IPS” panel with 1ms response time and 240Hz refresh rate, capable of covering >95% of DCI-P3 colour gamut. By the looks of it, this monitor is very similar to the Dell Alienware AW2720HF, featuring a similar border-less design, AlienFX lighting and an identical ergonomic stand.

According to Dell, this monitor will feature G-Sync Ultimate, meaning that it will come with a v2 G-Sync module, but AMD FreeSync should also be supported. To be G-Sync Ultimate certified, a monitor has to include ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur) and be VESA-certified for DisplayHDR 1000, but this monitor only shows as DisplayHDR 600 certified. Maybe the requirements to be G-Sync Ultimate certified will be toned down or there's a typo in the document and this monitor is just certified for standard G-Sync.

The Dell Alienware AW3821DW is a 37.5-inch sized “Fast IPS” monitor with a WQHD resolution (3840×1600) 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time. Capable of covering up to 98% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, this display also features AlienFX lighting and received the DisplayHDR 600 and G-Sync Ultimate certification (similar situation to the AW2721D).

Both the Dell Alienware AW2721D and AW3821DW monitors are expected to be available next year, but pricing details are not known yet.

Ahead of a busy year for AOC, with numerous new monitors on the way, KitGuru was invited to an event in Central London to check out the latest screens from the manufacturer. We saw a range of new models, but one in particular caught our eye – a 35in monitor boasting a 1440p resolution, 200Hz refresh rate and DisplayHDR 1000 certification.

Starting with that 35 beast of a monitor – dubbed the AG353UCG – this really does tick a lot of boxes if you are an ultrawide monitor gamer. Obviously there is the huge 35in size, but I was impressed with how slim and sleek this screen looks, despite the rather large dimensions – it uses AOC's ‘frameless' design, with only one ‘proper' bezel on the bottom edge.

Using the now familiar 21:9 WQHD resolution – 3440x1440p – the panel also boasts an impressive 200Hz refresh rate, alongside G-Sync anti-tear technology. On top of this, AOC claims the panel has just a ‘2 ms MPRT (Moving Picture Response Time)' to significantly reduce any motion blur. On the topic of the panel, it uses VA technology – increasingly common these days – and AOC claims an impressive 100% DCI-P3 gamut coverage. Add in the DisplayHDR 1000 certification for a peak 1000 nit brightness and this is a serious bit of kit.

Additionally, the model I saw also came with an external controller, loosely reminiscent of a basic gamepad. I'm not 100% sure if this is included with the AG353UCG but the idea is, connect this small control pad to the monitor and you have an easy way to navigate through the OSD if you don't want to fiddle with the integrated joystick.

I was seriously impressed with the overall clarity and ‘contrasty' look of the screen, and it has some serious specs to back that up. Unfortunately that does mean the AG353UCG doesn't come cheap, as we are told the MSRP is £2159 with availability expected this month – though this may be affected by the current situation in China.

We also got to look at a pair of new panels – the Q27G2U and the CQ27G2U. These are essentially the same model, only the Q27G2U is a flat screen and the CQ27G2U is curved (hence the ‘C' at the beginning of the model name.)

Q27G2U (left) and CQ27G2U (right)

To me, these didn't really present anything new or ground-breaking – however, it seems you get a heck of a lot of screen for the money, as these screens are set to retail for just £279 or £289 depending on whether you opt for the flat or curved option.

For that price, both screens offer a 27in 1440p experience, which is my personal size-to-resolution sweet spot for gaming. On top of that, both panels offer 144Hz refresh rates and VA panels which AOC claim to have significantly improved over previous VA models – these screens offer a rated 90% Adobe RGB/120% sRGB coverage, alongside 3000:1 contrast which is certainly impressive on paper.

Additionally, AOC is also claiming just 1m MPRT (Moving Picture Response Time) and the screens also support AMD Freesync – currently they're not listed on Nvidia's official ‘G-Sync Compatible' list, but Nvidia GPU owners should be able to use adaptive sync with this monitor.

We will of course have to validate AOC's claims and test both models ourselves, but these new 27G2U panels – whether you get the curved one or not – look like great offerings in the sub-£300 market.

At the end of last year, we learned that Asus had managed to snap up around 40 percent of the gaming monitor market in 2015 thanks to the success of its ROG Swift line of monitors. This year, the gaming monitor market got very competitive with companies like Acer and BenQ rising up but as it turns out, Asus has managed to hold on to its top spot in 2016.

A report from DigiTimes this week has analysed the market share of gaming monitor vendors throughout 2016, discovering that things have gotten pretty aggressive when it comes to 144Hz monitors. Asus, Acer and BenQ appear to be the largest competitors, with Asus holding 35 percent of the market, followed by BenQ at around 24 percent, with Acer following with around 19 percent of the market.

rog-34-inch-curved-gaming-monitor

Back in 2015, around 120 million LCD monitors were shipped and we are told to expect a similar tally for 2016. However, it looks like in 2016 there has been a larger volume of 144Hz monitors shipped. In 2015, 144Hz monitor shipments sat around 550,000 to 600,000 units but this year that will rise to 1.2 million, so high-refresh rate gaming has grown quite a bit.

Right now, the most popular monitor size still appears to be 21.5-inches but this is followed closely by 23-24-inch monitors. Curved monitors still aren't super popular and have not seen significant growth this year but may see a jump next year. Speaking of which, as we edge closer to 2017, vendors are expecting to see gaming monitor shipments rise to as much as 2.5 million units and may reach 3.5 million in 2018.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: It looks like a lot of people have been making the jump to higher refresh rates this year compared to 2015 and similarly to last year, Asus appears to be the most popular choice. Have any of you picked up a new monitor in 2016? Which one did you go with?
