Grand Theft Auto V just recently re-launched for the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 with new enhancements, including slightly improved graphics, ray-tracing and new content for GTA Online. Now, it seems that the new and improved version of the game may also be heading to PC.

Recently, Grand Theft Auto V was rated by the ESRB once again, listing Windows PC, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles as the game's platforms. Rockstar typically releases its major games on consoles first, with a PC release coming later down the line and this suggests that will be happening again with GTA V's Expanded & Enhanced edition.

Currently on Xbox Series X/S and PS5, the new version of GTA V costs £18 and £8 respectively but in a few months time, both versions will go to their full price tag of £34.99. This new version of GTA V also brought along the debut of GTA Online+, a subscription service for monthly perks within the online mode. Currently, this subscription is only available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but if the re-release heads to PC, then we should see the subscription offered to PC players too.

Rockstar has not yet announced GTA V E&E for PC, but the ESRB's recent rating indicates that an announcement should be coming soon.

KitGuru Says: If GTA V E&E is coming to PC after all, then I really hope that Rockstar adds some additional ray-tracing features that newer Nvidia and AMD GPUs can take advantage of. Do you think the recent console re-release will also come to PC?

The post KitGuru Games: GTA V ‘Expanded & Enhanced’ – another cash grab? first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Rockstar caught a lot of flack last year for the release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition. Now, a few months later, we have another remaster of sorts, with Grand Theft Auto V re-releasing with graphical enhancements for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. These enhancements are not available on the PC version of the game, but is the new console version worth the upgrade?

Many of us have already had quite the journey with Grand Theft Auto V. The game first released nine years ago on Xbox 360 and PS3 – sure enough, I owned the game on PS3. A year later in 2014, the game arrived on Xbox One and PS4, bringing 1080p gameplay and other visual upgrades – many of us bought in again. Another year later in 2015, the game released again, this time for PC, with the biggest visual overhaul to date and an unlocked frame rate, allowing us to finally experience Los Santos at decent frame rates.

For the longest time, the PC version has been the ‘definitive' way to play Grand Theft Auto V, but with the new Xbox Series X/S and PS5 version, has that changed?

For months, we've been questioning what ‘Expanded & Enhanced' means for this new version of GTA V on Xbox Series X/S and PS5. As time has gone on, we've come to learn that by expanded, Rockstar means new GTA Online content, and by enhanced, the studio means very subtle and minor graphical upgrades.

Grand Theft Auto V on the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 offers three graphical modes to choose from. In Fidelity mode, you get 4K resolution at 30 frames per second, with ray-traced shadows switched on. Thankfully, there is also a ‘Performance RT' mode, which runs at 1440p and 60 frames per second with RT shadows rendered at a lower quality setting. Finally, there is also a standard performance mode, which also offers 1440p/60FPS gameplay but without ray-tracing switched on at all.

There are no other ray-tracing features present, so don't expect fully revamped reflections, or diffused or emissive lighting etc. The catch here is that while RT shadows do look a touch better than traditional in-game shadows, the effect is incredibly subtle and if you are playing on a console hooked up to a TV while sat back on the sofa, you are far less likely to notice the difference at all. In addition, as Digital Foundry points out, ray-tracing is only present on shadows cast by the sun, so all interior areas of the game use standard shadow maps.

Purely from a console to console perspective, Grand Theft Auto V on PS5 does offer a significant bump from the PS4/Xbox One version. The game does look far closer to the PC version at high/ultra settings, but I wouldn't say the new version exceeds the PC version in a significant way visually, even with RT Shadows enabled.

From a gameplay standpoint though, I absolutely love playing Grand Theft Auto V on the PlayStation 5. Rockstar put in the additional work to fully support the DualSense controller and if you've read my past KitGuru Games pieces, you'll know that I absolutely love this controller. Rockstar has implemented additional rumble effects, the adaptive triggers kick in for weapons and some audio, such as in-game phone calls, will play through the DualSense speaker.

The DualSense controller just make gameplay so much more engaging compared to a standard gamepad or keyboard and mouse. For me, the DualSense has become my favourite way to play games – I'll even play first-person shooters with this gamepad if the features are well supported, which is a big deal for someone who has previously sworn off all console FPS titles.

So yes, somehow I've managed to fall in love with Grand Theft Auto V all over again. It continues to be an excellent game and I don't regret the £8 it cost me for the PS5 version. However, if I had bought this game on Xbox at its higher £18 price tag, I feel like I would most definitely have a more negative outlook.

Of course, while I don't regret buying the PS5 upgrade, that doesn't mean it should exist, or even be recommended. At the moment, Rockstar is selling GTA V for PS5 at 75% off (50% off on Xbox) as an ‘introductory offer'. In three months time, this version of the game will shoot up to £34.99 and at that price, this upgrade gets a hard no from me.

Grand Theft Auto V is already the highest selling game of all time and continues to generate millions, if not billions of dollars, for Rockstar and Take-Two each year. It would not have hurt the studio at all to offer this as a free upgrade for those who already own the game on Xbox One or PS4. At the very least, the upgrade should be sold at a fixed, low cost to those who already bought in once, possibly even twice already.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru Says: The PS5 version is my new favourite way to play Grand Theft Auto V, but I certainly don't want to encourage this sort of business practise either. This upgrade is not worth the £34.99 price tag that Rockstar intends to sell the game at, and it isn't worth the near £20 price the game is currently being sold at on Xbox. In my opinion, Rockstar should cap the upgrade at 75% off for anyone who previously bought GTA V on Xbox or PlayStation, and the price for a new buyer should also be lower considering that GTA V is now almost a decade old – we all know Rockstar will make that money back through GTA Online anyway.

In the years following Grand Theft Auto V's release, we've seen a number of rumours regarding new story content, as some of the main voice actors from the game confirmed being invited back to record new dialogue. Now, we're finally going to see some of that new story content as part of GTA Online, through a new DLC focusing on Franklin.

Franklin was one of the three protagonist of Grand Theft Auto V's main story and those who have played through GTA V will know that his story is left open-ended, priming the character up for a return. Now, Franklin will be coming back to the streets of Los Santos in a GTA Online DLC known as ‘The Contract'.

Rockstar announced the DLC this week, complete with a new trailer. The missions will see Franklin setting out on a mission to retrieve Dr. Dre's smartphone (yes, the real Dr. Dre), before his unreleased music tracks fall into the wrong hands.

Along the way, players will “ride through Los Santos, from the mean streets of Franklin’s old neighbourhood to the hottest parties in the city, from debaucherous mansions to the offices of the FIB and everywhere in between”. The DLC will also introduce a new radio station to the game, which will play new music produced by Dr. Dre.

GTA Online's ‘The Contract' update will drop on the 15th of December.

Grand Theft Auto V and its multiplayer counterpart, Grand Theft Auto Online, have been a huge part of the Xbox One and PS4 console generation, making it easy to forget that the game originally released on Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2013. Now, with GTA V: Extended and Enhanced on the horizon for next-gen consoles, it is time to finally drop support for the original Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

In a blog post this week, Rockstar announced that it will be shutting down Grand Theft Auto Online for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Shark Cards will no longer be sold on either platform starting on the 15th of September and then on the 16th of December, the online servers will shut down.

Moving forward, Grand Theft Auto Online will continue to be playable on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC. Of course, anyone with an Xbox 360 or a PS3 still set up can continue to play the Grand Theft Auto V story mode.

All of these changes are coming ahead of Grand Theft Auto V: Extended and Enhanced, which is releasing for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 on the 11th of November.

KitGuru Says: This day was bound to come eventually, but GTA Online will live on through more modern platforms. Did any of you first play GTA Online on an Xbox 360 or PS3?

Last year as part of Sony's PS5 games showcase, Rockstar announced Grand Theft Auto V for next-gen systems. Very little has been revealed since, but that changed last night, with the studio announcing that the new and improved version of the game will be available in November.

On the 11th of November, Grand Theft Auto V will release once again, this time for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. The game is already playable on both consoles through backwards compatibility, but the new version will have improved graphics and frame rates.

Sony does have a deal in place with Rockstar for the next-gen release of GTA V, ensuring that all PS5 users can get the standalone version of GTA Online for free between November 11th and February 2022. Those wanting to play the expanded and enhanced version of GTA Online on Xbox Series X/S will need to buy the full game instead.

Unfortunately, specific details on these enhancements for next-gen are still thin, but Rockstar has teased some surprises for over the summer to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto 3.

KitGuru Says: Grand Theft Auto V made a ton of money over the last two console generations, so we'll have to wait and see if Rockstar can carry that success over once again into a third console generation. What do you want to see from this expanded and enhanced version of GTA V?

Earlier this month, a modder discovered a fix for Grand Theft Auto Online's awful loading times. The game has suffered from lengthy loading screens since launch and as it turns out, some messy code was the root cause. Now, Rockstar is implementing the modder's fix in the main game, resulting in vastly improved loading times for all PC players.

The fix was created by a player that goes by the name ‘t0st' online. After digging around the game files, they discovered that an unnecessary amount of file checks were being performed each time GTA Online tried to load, aside from that, Rockstar's implementation only used one CPU core when loading the game, bottlenecking performance further.

With some code optimisation, GTA Online loading was reduced by a massive 70% using t0st's fix. Rockstar has taken notice of their work, announcing that the fix will be implemented into the main game.

Beyond that, Rockstar has also made an exception in its bug bounty program. Traditionally, Rockstar pays out bounties to those who find security issues and not game issues such as long loading times. In this case though, Rockstar is making an exception, rewarding t0st with a $10,000 bounty.

KitGuru Says: It is great to see Rockstar recognising this fix and rewarding the creator. GTA Online will only be improved by implementing this. Do many of you still play GTA Online? Did you try t0st's loading fix already?

Grand Theft Auto Online players are well aware of the game's lengthy loading times at this point. Rockstar never went back to fix this, so even on an SSD-based system, the game tends to take several minutes to load. Fortunately, one modder seems to have found the root cause of the issue and has managed to improve loading times by 70%.

GitHub user ‘tostercx' created a fix for GTA Online's loading times specifically. According to their research, every time you load GTA Online, a number of file checks are performed and re-performed a number of times, in-fact, checks can be carried out almost 2 million times during the loading process for GTA Online. Another bottleneck is that only one CPU core is used when loading.

Tostercx performed some code optimisation and other tweaks, after which, GTA Online loads in less than two minutes instead of six minutes, a near 70 percent improvement.

Apparently this is something that could be fixed by Rockstar itself fairly easily so perhaps an official fix will arrive soon. We do know that Rockstar is currently working on an enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto V for the PlayStation 5, which will presumably include some new loading optimisations to take advantage of the console's SSD.

KitGuru Says: Hopefully Rockstar takes notice of this and implements an official fix for everyone, rather than just including a fix in the new enhanced edition later down the line. Of course, if you try this out for yourself then do be careful, as GTA Online's anti-cheat system could end up picking up on the modified files.

Last month, Rockstar confirmed plans for ‘the biggest content update ever' for GTA Online. Now, that update has arrived, dubbed the ‘Los Santos Summer Special'. This is a pretty big update for GTA Online, containing more of pretty much everything.

As a quick run down, you can expect 15 new vehicles, 6 new co-op missions, new business battles and more.

As we dive into the finer details, Rockstar has added a ton to vehicle customisation too, with 15 new types of off-road wheels, 30 new sets of street wheels and new tire designs. Those who own a Galaxy Superyacht can take part in six new co-op missions, which are all ready to launch right from the bridge of the boat.

There are nine new open wheel race tracks and a new race creator for custom races. Business Battles will see players heading to new locations across the map and shooting it out for increased rewards. There are two new arcade cabinets coming to Los Santos, including QUB3D, which comes all the way from Liberty City.

Finally, there is the Diamond Adversary series, a competitive series of eight modes, including Slasher, Every Bullet Counts, Hardest Target and Resurrection. There are also some other fixes and improvements coming to GTA Online with this update, which you can find in the patch notes.

KitGuru Says: Are many of you planning on diving back into GTA Online for this new update?

Red Dead Online is getting a long awaited content update next week but Rockstar won't be leaving GTA Online players behind. GTA Online is set to get its biggest ever update this Summer.

In an update blog posted this week, Rockstar not only announced the next Red Dead Online update, but it also gave us a tease of what to expect from GTA Online this summer – in an update that promises to be the biggest yet, complete with new heists.

“A summer update to GTA Online is on the way, offering up a fun mix of diverse new content from the game’s massive array of experiences to enjoy”, the post reads. “The biggest ever update for GTA Online, featuring our latest take on Heists in an entirely new location.”

Rockstar has also been paying attention to community feedback. As a result, the ability to run all businesses via the Master Control Terminal in GTA Online is coming. There will be other player-informed changes too, so be sure to keep posting feedback to the GTA Online feedback page.

KitGuru Says: The next big GTA Online update is on its way. Personally, I'll be looking forward to checking out those new heists. Are many of you still playing GTA Online? Will you be checking out the big summer update once it drops?

Back in January, Microsoft made the surprise announcement that Grand Theft Auto V was joining the Xbox Game Pass library on consoles. The game, complete with the campaign and access to GTA Online, has remained available through the service since then. It will be leaving next month, but it is getting an excellent replacement in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Microsoft has struck up a new deal with Rockstar, which will see Red Dead Redemption 2 join the Xbox Game Pass library on the 7th of May. On the same day, Grand Theft Auto V will leave the library, so if you have an Xbox One and want to play GTA V, you have a couple of weeks left to do so, after that, you’ll need to buy the game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 originally launched on Xbox One back in late 2018 and was widely celebrated as one of the best games of that year. Last year, the game also made its way to PC via the Rockstar Games Launcher, Epic Games Store and Steam.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is unfortunately not joining the Game Pass for PC library at this time.

KitGuru Says: Red Dead Redemption 2 is a pretty huge addition for Xbox Game Pass, perhaps even more so than GTA V. Do any of you currently use Game Pass on PC or console? Are you happy with the service or does Microsoft need to make more improvements?

Rockstar Games is celebrating a record-breaking 2019 holiday season in both GTA Online and Red Dead Online by offering huge bonuses in both games. Starting today and during the beginning of February, GTA and Red Dead Online players will receive in-game cash bonuses and free gifts.

Grand Theft Auto V debuted in 2013 and since then it has been hugely popular on both console and PC platforms. Grand Theft Auto Online is entering its seventh year and is still breaking records. When Rockstar released The Diamond Casino & Resort last summer, it broke daily, weekly and monthly average player records in the subsequent months. The launch of The Diamond Casino Heist in December 2019 brought players back in numbers and even broke the previous records, which made December 2019 the best month ever in terms of active player count.

Rockstar would like to thank customers for this huge support by offering some great in-game bonuses for Grand theft Auto Online. Red Dead Online players will also be treated to some great in-game bonuses during this period to celebrate the successful launch of Red Dead Online and the introduction of Frontier Pursuits, which pushed Red Dead Online to a new peak in player numbers throughout December 2019 and topping those numbers again in January 2020.

To celebrate these important milestones, Rockstar is offering its biggest cash bonus ever in GTA Online. From today (30th January) until 5th February, just by playing GTA Online you will be able to earn GTA$1,000,000. An additional GTA$1,000,000 bonus will be given away to players logging in to GTA Online between 6th – 12th February.

Red Dead Online players will also receive free gifts for playing the game between specific dates too, with the full details listed on the official Rockstar Games page.

The Gunslinger’s Cache: Play between January 28th and February 3rd to get a Free Schofield Revolver, a Free Varmint Rifle and the Devastating Ammo Bundle, which includes 100x Split Point Revolver Ammo, 100x High Velocity Pistol Ammo, 100x Express Repeater Ammo, 100x Slug Shotgun Ammo, and 20x Explosive Rifle Ammo.

The Bounty Hunter’s Kit: Play between February 4th and February 10th to get a Free Bounty Hunter license, 25x Bolas, and 25x Tracking Arrows.

Rockstar says the GTA Online and Red Dead Online series will continue to grow in 2020, with the addition of open-wheel racing for GTA Online and the expansion of Frontier Pursuits in Red Dead Onlne adding new roles, missions and more.

Lindsey Lohan's lawsuit against Rockstar and Take-Two was recently settled and now courts are turning their attention towards other cases against the company. In 2016, former Rockstar North head, Leslie Benzies, launched a $150 million lawsuit against his former employer over ‘unpaid royalties'. Today, an update came in on that front, with the New York Supreme Court ruling that the agreement he signed doesn't entitle him to the amount he believes.

Leslie Benzies first left Rockstar North in September 2014 to go on a sabbatical. He tried to return to work in April 2015 but was denied access to the building. In January 2016, Take-Two and Rockstar confirmed that he was no longer employed at the company. This all led to the lawsuit being filed in April 2016, with Benzies claiming he signed a profit sharing agreement for GTA V, which entitled him to $150 million in royalties.

Now this week, the New York Supreme Court has stated that the profit sharing agreement he signed “contains no language mandating equal payments” and added that the terms of the contract were “unambiguous”. This was in response to Benzies' claim that Rockstar co-founders Sam and Dan Houser were being given a larger profit share.

Benzies still has a case against Rockstar, as it seems that the court agrees that he is “entitled to receive certain royalties”, but it is unlikely that he'll end up with the full $150 million he was originally after. That said, whatever amount he does end up with will likely be substantial, after all, GTA V is the highest earning entertainment property of all time, bringing in more than $6 billion so far.

KitGuru Says: Clearly something went down behind the scenes between Rockstar North management and Benzies. The case isn't over yet, so it will be interesting to see where it goes from here, particularly given how much money is on the table following the success of GTA V.

Way back in December 2013, Lindsey Lohan filed a 67-page long lawsuit against Rockstar for allegedly using her likeness for a character in Grand Theft Auto V. At the time, most shrugged it off as an attempt to cash in on one of the best selling games of all time, but it wasn't until September 2016 when the case was finally dismissed by a panel of judges. After that, an appeal was filed to try and get the lawsuit up and running again, but this week, the request was denied.

New York's Court of Appeals issued a ruling this week, dismissing the lawsuit against Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two. The court agreed that while depictions of people in video games would violate the state's publicity laws, it did not agree that Rockstar used Lindsey Lohan's likeness in any way.

In Grand Theft Auto V there is a ‘random events' mission where the player encounters an NPC called Lacey Jonas, hiding from paparazzi in an alley. Lohan's lawsuit alleged that this character was based on her likeness. She also alleged that one of the loading screens in GTA V showing a blonde women in a red bikini, was based on her.

In the court of appeals ruling, the judge had this to say: “The Jonas character simply is not recognizable as plaintiff in as much as it merely is a generic artistic depiction of a ‘twenty something' woman without any particular identifying physical characteristics.”

“Those artistic renderings are indistinct, satirical representations of the style, look, and persona of a modern, beach-going young woman. It is undisputed that defendants did not refer to plaintiff in GTAV, did not use her name in GTAV, and did not use a photograph of her in that game”.

That seems to be the final nail in the coffin for this particular lawsuit. The New York Appeals Court is the highest in the state, so the lawsuit can't be escalated further up the chain.

KitGuru Says: It has taken almost five years, but it looks like this particular lawsuit will finally be put to rest.

Grand Theft Auto V broke records when it first released in 2013 and it hasn't left the best seller charts since. In fact, the game has now sold 90 million copies worldwide, with 15 million of those sales occurring in 2017 alone.

Four years later, Grand Theft Auto V is still selling better than many other games. Take-Two head, Stauss Zelnick confirmed the impressive ongoing sales record during the publisher's earnings call last night. Aside from sales of the base game, GTA V is also earning plenty of extra cash through microtransactions.

Between GTA Online and NBA 2K18, Take-Two observed new heights for ‘recurrent consumer spending'. Previously we've heard that GTA Online alone raked in $500 million a year, a number that has likely remained steady over time thanks to the game's frequent free updates and dedicated player base.

The final bit of news coming out of Take-Two's investor call is that Red Dead Redemption 2 won't be delayed again. The game was pushed back twice since its announcement, with a final release date now being set to October 2018.

KitGuru Says: I'm still amazed by how often Grand Theft Auto V shows up in the weekly top ten lists at retail and on Steam. Did any of you buy GTA V in the last year?

In the years following Grand Theft Auto V’s launch, there was plenty of buzz surrounding potential single-player DLC. One of the game’s voice actors even teased additional content. Unfortunately, over the last year, things on that front have gone completely silent and now, Rockstar has finally shed some light on the lack of additional single-player content. As you might expect, we aren’t getting any, but here is why.

During a recent interview with Game Informer, Rockstar’s director of design, Imran Sarwar, explained that the studio didn’t make a “conscious decision” to skip on GTA V single-player DLC. He also added that as a studio, the team “loves single-player more than anything”, which may help quell concerns over Rockstar’s increasing focus on multiplayer, which has received much attention in GTA V and will also feature in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Here is the full quote from Sarwar when asked about single-player content:

“No, it was not really a conscious decision, it’s just what happened. We would love to do more single-player add-ons for games in the future. As a company we love single-player more than anything, and believe in it absolutely – for storytelling and a sense of immersion in a world, multiplayer games don’t rival single-player games.”

“With GTA V, the single-player game was absolutely massive and very, very complete. It was three games in one. The next-gen versions took a year of everyone’s time to get right, then the online component had a lot of potential, but to come close to realizing that potential also sucked up a lot of resources. And then there are other games – in particular Red Dead Redemption II. The combination of these three factors means for this game, we did not feel single-player expansions were either possible or necessary, but we may well do them for future projects.”

The full interview touches on a lot of other subjects, with Sarwar explaining why GTA Online’s Heists took so long, as well as touching on various other elements of the GTA Online experience. You can find the full Q&A here.

KitGuru Says: Given how great the characters were in GTA V, it is a shame we won’t be seeing more of them. Still, at least the door is still open for future games to get single-player expansions, though with Red Dead Redemption 2 getting its own online mode, I’m not convinced we’ll see any for that. Were any of you still holding out hope for future GTA V single-player content?

Update: Following on from our original story published this morning (see below), Rockstar has been in touch with us to say that OpenIV has been reinstated, with a new build now being pushed out to users. OpenIV will remain available for the foreseeable future.

A tweet from the GTANet forum also confirmed that the new build is being pushed out to users.

The OpenIV website has still yet to be updated with a new post and we don't know what changes were made in the new build just yet. However, it seems some common ground has been reached.

Original Story: Over the last week or so, Rockstar and Take-Two have come under fire for shutting down OpenIV, the tool that paved the way for some of the best single-player mods to ever land on GTA V and GTA IV. This caused a wave of backlash, most of which can be found in GTA V's Steam review section. Fortunately, it looks like Rockstar has managed to talk Take-Two into relaxing its stance a bit.

Over the weekend, Rockstar put out a new statement, reaffirming that single-player mods are allowed in GTA V, adding that Take-Two has “agreed that it generally will not take legal action against third-party projects” for Rockstar's single-player PC games, given that also respect the IP of third-parties. Unfortunately, the statement also includes a disclaimer that Take-Two reserves the right to object to any project, revise or withdraw this statement at any time. So, when it comes down to it, Take-Two might still target mods but hopefully it will be more careful before doing so.

As for the future of OpenIV, there is some hope. Speaking with PCGamer, Rockstar did confirm that it has made contact with the developers of OpenIV in hopes of making things right. In the long run, this should lead to a more constructive resolution, rather than shutting down a decade's worth of development work. However, it is worth noting that so far, the OpenIV website has not been updated, so the status of its continued development is still uncertain.

KitGuru Says: The OpenIV team has always been against the modding of GTA Online. Perhaps after talking things over with Rockstar, the two will be able to come to some resolution that allows OpenIV to be as useful as it is, while keeping GTA Online protected. We'll be keeping an eye out for any updates on that front.

Last week, Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two, began sending out Cease and Desist letters to various Grand Theft Auto V modding groups. The first tool to go down was OpenIV, which was unfortunately key to many single-player mods in GTA IV and GTA V. While this is a great loss for the modding community, Take-Two has now turned its attention to GTA Online mods, shutting down two cheat suppliers.

Two Grand Theft Auto Online cheat menus have shut down this week, the first being Force Hax and the second being Menyoo. Both cheat providers made money via a subscription service for regular updates, which is a common business tactic in the online cheating world. Force Hax has removed its social media pages and published an apology on its website, promising to donate earnings to charity upon Take-Two's suggestion.

Menyoo's website also has an apology listed in place of all previous content. Menyoo will also be donating earnings to charity, though it is waiting on Take-Two to choose one first.

While the removal of GTA Online cheats is generally a good thing for the future of the game, GTA V players are still feeling burned by the shutdown of OpenIV. Last week, GTA V's Steam page began getting flooded with negative reviews and that hasn't stopped at all over the weekend. The game now has an ‘overwhelmingly negative' recent rating, with over 86,000 negative reviews. The game's overall rating has also been bumped down from positive to mixed.

Speaking of OpenIV, Rockstar has issued a statement of its own regarding recent events: “Take-Two's actions were not specifically targeting single player mods. Unfortunately OpenIV enables recent malicious mods that allow harassment of players and interfere with the GTA Online experience for everybody. We are working to figure out how we can continue to support the creative community without negatively impacting our players.”

So hopefully Rockstar can come up with something that can keep everyone happy. We'll be keeping an eye out for more news on that front.

KitGuru Says: Grand Theft Auto Online does have a cheating problem. However, the timing here is pretty bad. If these shutdowns had happened before word got out about OpenIV, it may have softened the blow.

Recently, rumours surrounding new single player story content began making the rounds but unfortunately, it looks like the actor for Michael de Santa has nothing to do with it for now.

Speaking out on the recent single player DLC rumours, Ned Luke, the actor portraying Michael de Santa said that while he too would love to see some single player DLC soon, he doesn't know of any plans.

This followed on from an announcement post that all three actors that took on the roles of Michael, Trevor and Franklin will be attending conventions this year to meet fans.

KitGuru Says: I really enjoyed GTA V's single player story this time around but unfortunately, it seems that Rockstar has been putting all of its resources into GTA Online. Would any of you like to see Michael, Trevor and Franklin return in new single player DLC for GTA V?

Back when Grand Theft Auto Online launched on consoles, the game contained a feature known as ‘Temporary Characters'. This allowed people to play online with a new character while Rockstar was having issues and apparently, this feature could return at some point in the future, which could potentially give banned players a way to get back in to the game.

One modder on the Se7ensins forum says that they have found evidence of the temporary character feature in the code for new GTA Online DLC. This would mean that temporary characters would come to the PC version of the game, despite all of the complains about anonymous cheaters back when the feature was on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

gtaonline-dlc-update-soon

The forum post lists some potential exploits that the temporary character feature could bring to the table:

1. Bypassing bans, Bad Sport status, Cheater Pool status and mic mutes.

2. Never worry about being banned, suspended, muted, kicked, reported or otherwise punished for exploring scripts online.

3. Bypass any current bans, Bad Sport statuses, Cheater Pool status, mic mutes or any other matchmaking or game-related punishment.

4. Debug the online service and test out various scripts and modding tools without being penalized.

The post does make it clear that a launch date for this feature is not apparent. It is possible that Rockstar is just laying the ground work in-case it ever does face server issues so this may not be an issue for the time being. Considering that Rockstar had to field complaints about these very same exploits back when the game launched on last gen consoles, I wouldn't be surprised of Rockstar had tweaked a few things to make it more secure.

KitGuru Says: This feature could possibly allow cheaters to get back in to GTA Online but I wouldn't necessarily count on it. Rockstar has had two years to re-work this feature at this point so it may work pretty differently if it does come back.

Rockstar recently announced the next update for Grand Theft Auto Online, unfortunately, it seems that the game's multiplayer updates are the only thing the studio is working on. While many have been hoping for some single player DLC for Grand Theft Auto V for a while now, the core team is wrapped up in multiplayer updates.

The next GTA Online DLC is called ‘Freemode Events', which will add random events in to the game world for those who aren't on missions. Other game's do similar things, with Destiny being a pretty good example.

For those who play a lot of Grand Theft Auto Online, this is great news but for those who prefer the single player experience, it's a bit disappointing. In a recent interview with IGN, Rockstar North Director of Design, Imran Sarwar spoke on the future of DLC for GTA V:

“Right now our focus is on GTA Online which has exceeded our expectations. We currently have all key members of the team that launched Grand Theft Auto V focused on supporting GTA Online in every capacity.”

As fun as GTA Online is, it does have a few problems. For starters, friends can't set up their own private servers to play custom-made content together, there are quite a few cheaters floating around and everything runs on a peer-to-peer network, which can result in connection issues for many users.

Fortunately for PC gamers, we have mods, so some modders decided to create FiveM, a separate multiplayer add-on that does not link up with GTA Online, as a result, it technically complies with Rockstar's modding rules, since it only uses single-player files. Unfortunately, it seems Rockstar isn't such a big fan of the project, as the mod creators have had their GTA V accounts banned.

gaming-gta-online-beach-bum-update-screenshot-2

FiveM allows users to play Grand Theft Auto V together in servers that are separate to Rockstar's own, it also allows for custom maps and modded content online, without touching the official GTA Online files. Unfortunately, there is one part of the FiveM project that connects to Rockstar. The mod requires a Rockstar Social Club login, which the mod creators implemented to ensure that only people who owned the game could play online.

According to a report from Eurogamer, the mod's creators were the first to suffer bans from using FiveM, with regular users being targeted after, suggesting that Rockstar is dishing these bans out manually, rather than leaving it up to the anti-cheat engine.

KitGuru Says: It sounds like the FiveM project was a step in the right direction for Grand Theft Auto V multiplayer. It would be nice if Rockstar would have ‘official servers' for those who want to play through the GTA Online missions, and then allow players to set up custom ‘community servers' for those who want to play with friends and enable custom/modded content. Custom server owners could set up admins to sort out any cheaters as well, which would make everyone happy.

Recently Rockstar launched part two of GTA Online's Ill-Gotten Gains DLC. Unfortunately, this caused a bunch of performance issues for those playing Grand Theft Auto V. At the time, Rockstar support acknowledged the problems but did not give a timeline for a patch from Rockstar but it looks like the wait is now over.

So now those playing Grand Theft Auto V on the PC should have their performance restored to normal. However, there is a downside, though it was to be expected. In a post on Rockstar Support, the topic of mod support was addressed once again, noting that due to protections against mods in GTA-Online, the latest patch may cause story mode mods to break.

gaming-grand-theft-auto-5-next-gen-screenshot-16

“We also received some reports linking decreased performance when using Story Mode mods to TU 1.28. As mentioned previously, we are not actively targeting players using mods in Story Mode, nor are we explicitly implementing protections against them in-game. Our primary focus is on protecting GTA Online against modifications that could give players an unfair advantage, disrupt gameplay, or cause griefing. ”

“However, as a reminder, mods are still unauthorized and as such, Title Updates may cause Story Mode mods to behave in unexpected ways because they are not supported or tested, and players run them at their own risk.”

If you were running any mods in the story mode of Grand Theft Auto V, then you may want to check they are still working. If they aren't you will need to wait for mod authors to update their mods.

KitGuru Says: The performance issues that popped up in the last GTA Online update were unexpected to say the least. However, things should be back to normal now. Were any of you affected by issues with GTA V recently? Have they since been resolved?

Quite a few Grand Theft Auto V players seem to be suffering from frame rate issues following the recent ‘Ill-Gotten Gains' part two update for the game's online multiplayer mode. Problems are currently being reported on the r/Games Subreddit, with the post getting plenty of upvotes.

Right now it is not known exactly what is causing the problems but the creators of the LCPD mod seem to think that it has something to do with Rockstar's mod protection for Grand Theft Auto Online, which is degrading performance for many players. This claim has not been confirmed so for now it is just one of the theories.

GTA-V-PC-8-e1427483859340

These issues were brought up with Rockstar Support, which claims that the developer is looking in to these issues and working to address them: “We have received reports of lower framerate in GTAV and GTA Online after Title Update 1.28 on PC, and we are looking into these reports now.”

That said, we don't know how long a fix will take, Rockstar Support has not been a great source of information in the past. So if any of you have yet to download the latest Grand Theft Auto V update, you may want to avoid it for the time being.

KitGuru Says: Rockstar's latest update seems to be interfering with performance on a range of PC hardware. Hopefully the development team can get a patch out fairly quick so people can resume playing as normal. Are any of you still playing GTA V or GTA Online? Have you encountered any issues with the game?

Lets kick off the morning with some good, albeit very speculative news, it looks like some story DLC could be in the works for Grand Theft Auto V, thanks to a new tease from Shawn Fonteno, the voice and motion capture actor behind the character Franklin Clinton.

Now, this isn't the first time story DLC has been teased for the game, in-fact, the same actor had teased “substantial additions in 2014 continuing Michael, Franklin and Trevor's action”, obviously 2014 came and went and no DLC has been released yet, aside from the numerous updates to Grand Theft Auto Online.

Artwork-LoadingScreen-Franklin

While Shawn Fonteno may not have been right when he initially spoke out on DLC, at the time Rockstar would have been working on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC versions of the game, rather than new content for the story. However, since all of that is now out-of-the-way, it would make sense for Rockstar to expand on things, especially since the game originally came out back in 2013.

This time around, Shawn posted an image of himself to instagram in front of a Grand Theft Auto poster with the caption “Shhhh…..YALL KNOW WHY I GOT THIS SUIT ON” and later put another image up of himself along with the actors for Michael and Trevor.

Obviously none of that is concrete proof of anything whatsoever but it is fun to speculate. The timing seems right as well, now that the game is out and effectively finished on all platforms. The story itself is quite old now as well so it would not be too surprising to learn that Rockstar is preparing a story expansion for GTA V.

KitGuru Says: Having beat the story of GTA V a couple of months back, I would love to see a return to Franklin, Michael and Trevor. Do any of you hope that Rockstar is working on an expansion to GTA V's story? Any ideas for what could happen?

It has taken the studio a while but Rockstar has finally clarified its stance on modding with Grand Theft Auto V, confirming that you won't be banned for using single-player mods or moved to the cheater pool . This follows several unconfirmed reports of users getting banned from GTA Online after using the FOV mod in single-player.

In a new post on the Rockstar newswire, the studio said: “We have always appreciated the creative efforts of the PC modding community and we still fondly remember the awesome zombie invasion mod and original GTA map mod for GTAIV PC among many other classics. To be clear, the modding policy in our license has not changed and is the same as for GTAIV”.

actual_1431014122

So the modding license has not changed at all, contrary to popular rumor. Last week it was reported that the most recent GTA V patch was breaking mods, according to Rockstar, that was not part of the plan but explained that mods will unintentionally break from time to time after patches:

“Recent updates to GTAV PC had an unintended effect of making unplayable certain single player modifications. This was not intentional, no one has been banned for using single player modifications, and you should not worry about being banned or being relegated to the cheater pool just for using single player PC mods.”

Obviously, Rockstar is going to continue to be on the lookout for mods that could mess with GTA Online. Unfortunately, Rockstar does not have reliable customer service, so if the anti-cheat system accidentally catches you out, chances are, you won't get much help.

KitGuru Says: Have any of you guys faced problems with GTA Online since launch? Any issues with unfair bans or attempting to get one lifted? While it is all well and good for Rockstar to say it won't intentionally ban users for modding their single player experience, its customer service is going to have to be a bit more helpful to those who mistakenly get caught out.

Modders are continuing to experiment with Grand Theft Auto V for the PC. The latest addition to the game comes from DIY Projects Planetleak, who has made a smartphone app to emulate and control the virtual smartphone found in the game.

This has nothing to do with the iFruit companion app, which Rockstar released alongside the original console versions of Grand Theft Auto V. In a video posted to YouTube, we can see the app running on an iPhone, controlling the smartphone in GTA V:

The communication between the phone and the game is a little on the slow side but the creator is working on making it a bit more responsive. The mod itself is not actually downloadable right now as getting it to work is a bit of a complicated process in comparison to other mods.

What we are seeing in the video is the app on the iPhone created with Xcode. Inputs from the iPhone are then used to send a URL to an Arduino web-server, which then sends the inputs to the game using macros.

KitGuru Says: The mod itself is pretty cool and the process to get it all working correctly shows some dedication. Unfortunately, it isn't a simple mod that you can just download and install so you likely won't be trying this out yourselves for now.

If you have been playing Grand Theft Auto V with any mods installed on the PC, then you may find that they stop working after the latest patch. New reports are saying that patch 350.1 fixes up some bugs and stability issues but is also breaking a number of mods.

Now this isn't too surprising as mods are not officially supported in Grand Theft Auto V. However, soon after release, file tinkerers found a way around Rockstar's limitations and began making a variety of simple mods, like trainers. The mod creators should be able to update their mods for compatibility with the latest patch but until they do, you might want to hold off on updating your game.

Aside from that though, the patch does a lot of good for the game. The official change log notes some significant fixes including improved stability, less crashes and hangs between jobs in GTA Online and now vehicles in your garage will no longer be replaced by vehicles from the street.

Grand Theft Auto V has been out for a week now on the PC but it hasn't been without issues. Last week it was reported that Rockstar's Social Club service, which is the hub for GTA V and its multiplayer, may have been hacked with many claiming that their accounts had been accessed by someone else.

Rockstar has finally commented on the issue, stating that the Social Club had not been breached but did note that a third-party site clearly has been, although it didn't name it specifically. In a statement sent to Kotaku, the developer also said that “attempts have been made to access user accounts using email and password combinations from an unaffiliated, compromised website or database elsewhere on the internet.”

It is possible that the email and password combinations being used originated from the Twitch hack that happened recently. Although it could be somewhere else entirely. As a result, you should probably change your password just to be on the safer side of things.

If anyone was unfortunate enough to lose their account, then fear not as Rockstar is in the process of reverting them back. If any of you are experiencing issues, then its probably a good idea to get in touch with Rockstar support, although people have had varied success with them.

Grand Theft Auto V is now available for the PC, which obviously means mods are on the way. The new version of the game also comes with a first person view mode, unfortunately though, you can't actually adjust the field of view while using it.

As you would expect, the modding community has already fixed this problem. The mod creator, known online as DrDaxxy, has tested the new Field of View slider in both the Steam and retail versions of the game, although there is no guarantee that a future patch will stop the mod from being compatible.

There is a problem with installing this mod though. Like with most cheats or hacks, this mod fiddles around with the game files, which could be a red flag for the anti-cheat software used by Rockstar's servers for Grand Theft Auto Online.

Rockstar has yet to confirm its stance on modding with GTA Online, so for now it might be best to only use this mod in story mode. You can download the field of view mod and find the installation instructions, HERE.
