Recently, a bunch of Rockstar files leaked, including the source code for Grand Theft Auto V, just weeks on from the announcement of Grand Theft Auto VI. Dataminers have been combing through the code, finding references to the single-player DLCs we never got.

Since Grand Theft Auto 5's launch, there have been persistent rumours of scrapped DLC plans for the game's single-player mode. As it turns out, Rockstar had plans for as many as eight single-player DLCs. A few of these DLCs were ‘packs', which may have been smaller in scope. However, three of them sound particularly interesting – Agent Trevor, a Prologue DLC and a LibertyV DLC. That last one hints at a return to Liberty City for another adventure, rebuilt in the GTA V engine.

The Prologue DLC may have fleshed out the very beginning of the game, showing the events leading up to the heist gone wrong in GTA V's opening.

As pointed out by Insider Gaming, Rockstar confirmed that its primary focus would be on GTA Online back in 2017. However, rumours claim that single-player DLC plans were initially impacted by the departure of Leslie Benzies back in 2014.

KitGuru Says: GTA V's single-player campaign was fantastic but I think we were all left wanting more over the years. Nobody can deny that Rockstar's focus on GTA Online has paid off though.

GTA Online has been a huge success for Rockstar and has arguably been a bigger draw to GTA V than the excellent single-player portion of the game. Role Playing servers have been a huge thing for GTA Online too, with many of them flocking to mods like FiveM to enable more gameplay features. Now, Rockstar is bringing the FiveM developers on board to work on future games in an official capacity.

FiveM and RedM offer Roleplay online gameplay for both GTA Online and Red Dead Online. These mods have been the most popular amongst GTA Online players. In an announcement today, Rockstar announced that Cfx.re, the team behind these mods, is now officially joining Rockstar Games.

Rockstar took steps towards this last year by expanding on its policies to allow for Roleplay servers and communities in online titles. This acquisition doesn't mean FiveM or RedM will be going away, but it may increase the chances of an official RP mode implementation for future games.

Rockstar is currently hard at work on Grand Theft Auto 6, which in turn will usher in a new age of GTA Online as well. Official, dedicated RP servers will hopefully now be part of the plan the next game.

KitGuru Says: Back when GTA V first launched on PC, Rockstar and Take-Two were pretty heavy-handed with shutting down mod projects. However, the community refused to stop and eventually, Rockstar did become more accepting of mods as part of the GTA experience. Bringing on the teams behind the most popular modding projects seems like a much better idea than trying to stamp out community creativity.

When Rockstar Games finally released GTA V: Expanded and Enhanced for current-gen systems, the sentiment surrounding the update was somewhat muted due to rather minimal improvements across the board – especially when it came to the game’s graphics. In a surprising move, Rockstar Games have now announced that GTA Online will be getting ray-traced reflections.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of GTA V did launch with some ray tracing, however at the time it was limited to just RTAO (ray-traced ambient occlusion). While a nice addition, it is perhaps one of the least impactful forms of ray-tracing.

It is therefore exciting to see that in an upcoming update, GTA Online for PS5 and Series X will be getting ray-traced reflections, with Rockstar Games taking to their blog to say:

“With this year drawing to a close, we'd like to thank our devoted community of enterprising criminals, creators, and competitors in Grand Theft Auto Online, and provide some details on what is still to come.”

Alongside general improvements, quality-of-life changes and “a fleet of new vehicles, world events, Contact Missions, and more,” GTA Online on PS5 and Series X is set to receive “ray-traced reflections — rendering real-time reflections on many surfaces — via the Fidelity Mode graphics setting.”

Alongside Ray-Traced Global Illumination, RT Reflections is one of the most impactful forms of ray tracing – especially for a game such as GTA V which is set in a massive city with tall skyscrapers; shiny vehicles; rain; the sea and more. This update is set to arrive before the end of the year. Hopefully these features are eventually brought to PC.

Rockstar has never supported Red Dead Online particularly well and it is clear that the main focus has always been GTA Online. Now, the studio has essentially confirmed exactly that, putting a pause on any major Red Dead Online updates.

This week, Rockstar confirmed that for the past few years, it has been “steadily moving more development resources” towards Grand Theft Auto 6. The studio added it is “making some changes to how we support Red Dead Online” as work on GTA 6 continues to ramp up.

These changes to support ultimately boil down to fewer content updates. There won't be a major Red Dead Online update this year, although GTA Online is due to get new content at its usual pace. In place of major updates, Red Dead Online will continue to have small in-game events.

In many ways, it feels like Red Dead Online was doomed from the start. The game didn't end up hitting the same numbers as GTA Online and it doesn't make as much money, but I can't help but think that a better post-launch content plan would have helped improve things.

KitGuru Says: It seems unlikely that Red Dead Online gets any sort of significant expansion. The next two years are all going to be about getting Grand Theft Auto 6 ready and after that, the GTA Online grind will start over again.

Today in an unexpected announcement, Rockstar announced GTA+, a new subscription program for Grand Theft Auto Online. The announcement comes shortly after the latest Grand Theft Auto V re-release, with the game now available on Xbox Series X/S and PS5.

GTA+ will be available starting from the 29th of March and will provide members with access to $500,000 monthly in-game cash, plus other unlockables, like special vehicle upgrades, and bonuses for completing missions.

In the first month, running from March 29th to April 27th, GTA+ members will receive:

  • GTA$500,000 delivered automatically to your Maze Bank Account.
  • The Principe Deveste Eight — along with a complimentary Hao’s Special Works upgrade for it before it is made available to purchase by the general public — plus the HSW Orange Trip and HSW CMYK Glitch Liveries.
  • The Auto Shop located in La Mesa, introduces an assortment of gameplay updates from Los Santos Tuners. Current Auto Shop owners can relocate to La Mesa at no additional cost.
  • Waived LS Car Meet Membership fees. Current LS Car Meet members with GTA+ will be reimbursed GTA$50,000 during this event period.

In the years following Grand Theft Auto V's release, we've seen a number of rumours regarding new story content, as some of the main voice actors from the game confirmed being invited back to record new dialogue. Now, we're finally going to see some of that new story content as part of GTA Online, through a new DLC focusing on Franklin.

Franklin was one of the three protagonist of Grand Theft Auto V's main story and those who have played through GTA V will know that his story is left open-ended, priming the character up for a return. Now, Franklin will be coming back to the streets of Los Santos in a GTA Online DLC known as ‘The Contract'.

Rockstar announced the DLC this week, complete with a new trailer. The missions will see Franklin setting out on a mission to retrieve Dr. Dre's smartphone (yes, the real Dr. Dre), before his unreleased music tracks fall into the wrong hands.

Along the way, players will “ride through Los Santos, from the mean streets of Franklin’s old neighbourhood to the hottest parties in the city, from debaucherous mansions to the offices of the FIB and everywhere in between”. The DLC will also introduce a new radio station to the game, which will play new music produced by Dr. Dre.

GTA Online's ‘The Contract' update will drop on the 15th of December.

KitGuru Says: Will many of you be returning to GTA Online for this new update next week?

Grand Theft Auto V and its multiplayer counterpart, Grand Theft Auto Online, have been a huge part of the Xbox One and PS4 console generation, making it easy to forget that the game originally released on Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2013. Now, with GTA V: Extended and Enhanced on the horizon for next-gen consoles, it is time to finally drop support for the original Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

In a blog post this week, Rockstar announced that it will be shutting down Grand Theft Auto Online for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Shark Cards will no longer be sold on either platform starting on the 15th of September and then on the 16th of December, the online servers will shut down.

Moving forward, Grand Theft Auto Online will continue to be playable on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC. Of course, anyone with an Xbox 360 or a PS3 still set up can continue to play the Grand Theft Auto V story mode.

All of these changes are coming ahead of Grand Theft Auto V: Extended and Enhanced, which is releasing for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 on the 11th of November.

KitGuru Says: This day was bound to come eventually, but GTA Online will live on through more modern platforms. Did any of you first play GTA Online on an Xbox 360 or PS3?

Earlier this month, a modder discovered a fix for Grand Theft Auto Online's awful loading times. The game has suffered from lengthy loading screens since launch and as it turns out, some messy code was the root cause. Now, Rockstar is implementing the modder's fix in the main game, resulting in vastly improved loading times for all PC players.

The fix was created by a player that goes by the name ‘t0st' online. After digging around the game files, they discovered that an unnecessary amount of file checks were being performed each time GTA Online tried to load, aside from that, Rockstar's implementation only used one CPU core when loading the game, bottlenecking performance further.

With some code optimisation, GTA Online loading was reduced by a massive 70% using t0st's fix. Rockstar has taken notice of their work, announcing that the fix will be implemented into the main game.

Beyond that, Rockstar has also made an exception in its bug bounty program. Traditionally, Rockstar pays out bounties to those who find security issues and not game issues such as long loading times. In this case though, Rockstar is making an exception, rewarding t0st with a $10,000 bounty.

KitGuru Says: It is great to see Rockstar recognising this fix and rewarding the creator. GTA Online will only be improved by implementing this. Do many of you still play GTA Online? Did you try t0st's loading fix already?

Grand Theft Auto Online players are well aware of the game's lengthy loading times at this point. Rockstar never went back to fix this, so even on an SSD-based system, the game tends to take several minutes to load. Fortunately, one modder seems to have found the root cause of the issue and has managed to improve loading times by 70%.

GitHub user ‘tostercx' created a fix for GTA Online's loading times specifically. According to their research, every time you load GTA Online, a number of file checks are performed and re-performed a number of times, in-fact, checks can be carried out almost 2 million times during the loading process for GTA Online. Another bottleneck is that only one CPU core is used when loading.

Tostercx performed some code optimisation and other tweaks, after which, GTA Online loads in less than two minutes instead of six minutes, a near 70 percent improvement.

Apparently this is something that could be fixed by Rockstar itself fairly easily so perhaps an official fix will arrive soon. We do know that Rockstar is currently working on an enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto V for the PlayStation 5, which will presumably include some new loading optimisations to take advantage of the console's SSD.

KitGuru Says: Hopefully Rockstar takes notice of this and implements an official fix for everyone, rather than just including a fix in the new enhanced edition later down the line. Of course, if you try this out for yourself then do be careful, as GTA Online's anti-cheat system could end up picking up on the modified files.

Grand Theft Auto Online and more recently, Red Dead Online, have had issues with cheaters and hackers on PC since their respective launches. As part of an effort to crack down on cheating, Take-Two has recently been targeting cheat makers and sellers, with one popular cheat website now shutting down.

LunaCheats, a site that sold GTA Online hacks, has closed down this week after “discussions” with Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar. The site is no longer selling cheats after being contacted by Take-Two's legal team, instead, the site just displays the following message:

“After discussions with Take-Two Interactive, we are immediately ceasing all maintenance, development and distribution of our cheat menu services. We will also be donating our proceeds to a charity designated by Take-Two”.

The message ends with an apology: “we apologise for any and all problems our software has caused to the Grand Theft Auto Online community”.

Judging by the message, it would seem that the former cheat sellers came to an agreement with Take-Two to avoid any further legal troubles.

KitGuru Says: There are still plenty of other GTA Online cheats floating around, but hopefully this will help dilute the number of cheaters in-game for a while. How many of you still play GTA Online? Is cheating still a rampant issue?

Last month, Rockstar confirmed plans for ‘the biggest content update ever' for GTA Online. Now, that update has arrived, dubbed the ‘Los Santos Summer Special'. This is a pretty big update for GTA Online, containing more of pretty much everything.

As a quick run down, you can expect 15 new vehicles, 6 new co-op missions, new business battles and more.

As we dive into the finer details, Rockstar has added a ton to vehicle customisation too, with 15 new types of off-road wheels, 30 new sets of street wheels and new tire designs. Those who own a Galaxy Superyacht can take part in six new co-op missions, which are all ready to launch right from the bridge of the boat.

There are nine new open wheel race tracks and a new race creator for custom races. Business Battles will see players heading to new locations across the map and shooting it out for increased rewards. There are two new arcade cabinets coming to Los Santos, including QUB3D, which comes all the way from Liberty City.

Finally, there is the Diamond Adversary series, a competitive series of eight modes, including Slasher, Every Bullet Counts, Hardest Target and Resurrection. There are also some other fixes and improvements coming to GTA Online with this update, which you can find in the patch notes.

KitGuru Says: Are many of you planning on diving back into GTA Online for this new update?

Red Dead Online is getting a long awaited content update next week but Rockstar won't be leaving GTA Online players behind. GTA Online is set to get its biggest ever update this Summer.

In an update blog posted this week, Rockstar not only announced the next Red Dead Online update, but it also gave us a tease of what to expect from GTA Online this summer – in an update that promises to be the biggest yet, complete with new heists.

Rockstar has also been paying attention to community feedback. As a result, the ability to run all businesses via the Master Control Terminal in GTA Online is coming. There will be other player-informed changes too, so be sure to keep posting feedback to the GTA Online feedback page.

Rockstar Games is celebrating a record-breaking 2019 holiday season in both GTA Online and Red Dead Online by offering huge bonuses in both games. Starting today and during the beginning of February, GTA and Red Dead Online players will receive in-game cash bonuses and free gifts.

Grand Theft Auto V debuted in 2013 and since then it has been hugely popular on both console and PC platforms. Grand Theft Auto Online is entering its seventh year and is still breaking records. When Rockstar released The Diamond Casino & Resort last summer, it broke daily, weekly and monthly average player records in the subsequent months. The launch of The Diamond Casino Heist in December 2019 brought players back in numbers and even broke the previous records, which made December 2019 the best month ever in terms of active player count.

Rockstar would like to thank customers for this huge support by offering some great in-game bonuses for Grand theft Auto Online. Red Dead Online players will also be treated to some great in-game bonuses during this period to celebrate the successful launch of Red Dead Online and the introduction of Frontier Pursuits, which pushed Red Dead Online to a new peak in player numbers throughout December 2019 and topping those numbers again in January 2020.

Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive has been cracking down on cheat makers over the past couple of years, recently gaining court orders to search and seize the equipment of alleged perpetrators. After being caught, a Florida resident has been ordered to pay the company $150,000 in damages and a further $69,000 in legal fees for developing and selling cheat programs for Grand Theft Auto Online.

Last year, Take-Two turned its sights on a cheat program called ‘Elusive’, which allowed players to spawn unlimited in-game currency and reportedly instantly kill enemy players, among other things. This was sold in packages ranging from $10 – $30, according to TorrentFreak, before being taken down when the publisher managed to get in contact with creator Johnny Perez.

“After discussions with Take-Two Interactive, we are immediately ceasing all maintenance, development, and distribution of our cheat menu services,” read Perez announcement to fans at the time. “We will also be donating our proceeds to a charity designated by Take-Two. We apologize for any and all problems our software has caused to the Grand Theft Auto Online community.”

Although Perez complied with the takedown, Take-Two claims that it filed the lawsuit in August, 2018 because the publisher’s attempts to negotiate a settlement were met with silence. Take-Two claimed that the Elusive software had caused up to $500,000 in damages through its harm to other players discouraging new sales, and its devaluing of in-game currency hindering its microtransactions.

Take-Two sought the maximum statutory damages amount of $150,000, plus $69,686 in attorney’s fees. The judge ultimately agreed with the ruling, finding Perez guilty of both direct and contributory copyright infringement.

“Take-Two has been irreparably harmed by Mr. Perez’s infringing conduct and will continue to be harmed unless enjoined,” said US District Court Judge Kevin Castel. “Mr. Perez’s Elusive program creates new features and elements in Grand Theft Auto which can be used to harm legitimate players, causing Take-Two to lose control over its carefully balanced plan for how its video game is designed to be played.

As usual, a permanent injunction prevents Perez from continuing copyright infringing activities. This is believed to be the highest penalty awarded to a case pertaining to video game cheats to date.

KitGuru Says: It’s definitely a big win for Take-Two and Rockstar, showing the community that it isn’t messing around when it comes to cheating. There’s still a long way to go in order to purge GTA Online of illegitimate players, though.

Since its original 2013 release, Grand Theft Auto V has sold consistently well on all five of the platforms it has officially released for, even maintaining its position in the UK charts and Steam’s top 10 games regarding concurrent player base. The impact of the title doesn’t stop there, however, as the game has sold so well that it has now beaten all other media for the title of the most profitable entertainment product of all time.

As reported by MarketWatch (via Gamesindustry.biz), GTA V has generated $6 billion in revenue across its 90 million sales, earning its place as the “most financially successful media title of all time.” With the report attributing the success to “the title’s continued longevity,” it is likely that this staggering number is comprised of both sales and subsequent microtransactions.

The report draws comparisons with modern day media, with superhit films such as Star Wars, Avatar and Gone With The Wind (when adjusted for inflation), which garnered a little over $4 billion combined over theatrical release and home video. Considering film had already eclipsed other media such as books and the music industry, this is an astounding feat.

Its closest contender in the video game world seems to be the Mario franchise as a whole, however the report rightly states that no singular title has come close to this achievement. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops take the second and third spot for interactive media at 26.5 million and 24.2 million sales respectively, but this pales in comparison to the aforementioned 90 million.

Cowen analyst Doug Creutz calls this achievement a “wild outlier” in that no other video game has and likely will break such staggering heights any time soon. Rockstar’s other popular franchise is set to debut a sequel later this year with Red Dead Redemption 2, which might be the only other title that could potentially dethrone GTA V.

Creutz thinks that this might be a stretch however, noting that while Rockstar is likely to have other big hits, “another GTA V isn't likely. Michael Jackson had a lot of hit albums but he only had one Thriller.”

KitGuru Says: While many are happy with GTAV, a lot still criticise the model for wasting the single-player portion of the campaign. Still, Rockstar must be doing something right to become so profitable. Do you still play GTAV or GTA Online?

An issue has cropped up within the Grand Theft Auto Online community on PC over the weekend, as many have been reporting false positives on the game’s anti-cheat system. The resulting bans are apparently tied to the title’s Southern San Andreas Super Sports Series update, with developer Rockstar acknowledging that it is aware and investigating the issue.

Players flocked in droves to the subreddit to ridicule GTA Online’s recent wrongful ban wave, claiming that none of them had done anything wrong. Some users are claiming that their whole lobbies full of friends have been caught in the crossfire, identified as modders and automatically suspended as a result.

Unfortunately, reaching out to Rockstar about the issue has proven painful for many affected, with the developer’s zero-tolerance policy on its bans resulting in tickets mentioning the action being closed immediately without warrant for further investigation. Luckily, publishers picking the story up over the weekend has caused Rockstar to change course, acknowledging the problem and stating that it is actively investigating the issue as more players come forward.

Due to the developer’s tardiness on giving the issue attention, GTAV has received a sudden spike in its negative review on Steam, many of which describe their stories of being unfairly banned. Even Rockstar’s support threads are filled with those from 30 minutes to 3,000 hours, all of which received the account suspension around a similar time frame.

Rockstar has yet to officially release as statement on the issue and for now, it seems that some people’s accounts are still banned. For those desperate to play in the meantime, YouTuber MrBossFTW recommends indulging in invite-only servers, as this should negate worries of being banned.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: With the sheer popularity of GTAV, there’s no way that Rockstar wouldn’t have caught onto this at some point. It’ll just be a matter of time when it comes to the reversal of bans, possibly paired with in-game currency as compensation but this is unconfirmed at this time. Are you one of the many suffering with a ban?

Grand Theft Auto V broke records when it first released in 2013 and it hasn't left the best seller charts since. In fact, the game has now sold 90 million copies worldwide, with 15 million of those sales occurring in 2017 alone.

Four years later, Grand Theft Auto V is still selling better than many other games. Take-Two head, Stauss Zelnick confirmed the impressive ongoing sales record during the publisher's earnings call last night. Aside from sales of the base game, GTA V is also earning plenty of extra cash through microtransactions.

Between GTA Online and NBA 2K18, Take-Two observed new heights for ‘recurrent consumer spending'. Previously we've heard that GTA Online alone raked in $500 million a year, a number that has likely remained steady over time thanks to the game's frequent free updates and dedicated player base.

The final bit of news coming out of Take-Two's investor call is that Red Dead Redemption 2 won't be delayed again. The game was pushed back twice since its announcement, with a final release date now being set to October 2018.

KitGuru Says: I'm still amazed by how often Grand Theft Auto V shows up in the weekly top ten lists at retail and on Steam. Did any of you buy GTA V in the last year?

It looks like GTA Online's latest update, ‘The Doomsday Heist‘ contained more than we bargained for. The folks over at The Guru Team have been digging through the game files to uncover clues about future content and something very interesting popped up- a hidden in-game activity that directly ties into Red Dead Redemption 2.

The Guru Team previously gained recognition after they solved the GTA UFO mystery earlier this year. With the Doomsday Heist update, they jumped back into the game files to see what else they could dig out. It turns out that this update contains files for new in-game content tying into Red Dead Redemption 2. One piece of upcoming content is the Double-Action Revolver headshot challenge. When a player beats this challenge, they will unlock both a GTA V reward, as well as a variation of the revolver in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Elsewhere in the files, The Guru Team (via Kotaku) found some unused assets including a locked chest and a handwritten note. The chest is marked with ‘Boles Overland Stagecoach Co.' branding, which was also spotted in the trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2. These assets will be used in an upcoming mission, which will send players off to find a “gold-plated six shooter”. The hand written note will likely kick off the scavenger hunt, which ends in players finding the locked chest and earning themselves a shiny new gun.

Finding the revolver will involve visiting around 20 different locations across Los Santos. This mission is triggered by server-side files, so Rockstar has it all set up, we are just waiting for them to push the button and make it live.

KitGuru Says: It looks like Rockstar will be utilizing GTA Online to help promote Red Dead Redemption 2 next year. Unfortunately, we don't know if PC players will get access to this content, as Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently only known to be in development for PS4 and Xbox One.

Despite Rockstar’s push on Grand Theft Auto Online, Heists haven’t been seen since it released back in early 2015. Fans need fear not, though, as The Doomsday Heist breaks that near-three-year dry spell, coming in with an outlandish trailer before its December 12th release date.

This comes as a surprising announcement, given that Rockstar stated that new Heists weren’t on the cards after its long and troublesome development. But considering the details revealed in the trailer, it’s no surprise that Rockstar wanted to go all-out for the return to its 4-player co-op experience.

The trailer reveals a very movie-inspired experience, albeit greatly exaggerated for comedic effect. Clifford, presumably main-character Avon’s artificial intelligence sounds an awful lot like Hal from 2001: A Space Odyssey, so I’d watch out for him. James Bond’s The Spy Who Loved Me also gets a nod in the form of cars that convert into submarines. Of course, these ones can fly too.

Rockstar’s premise to the new heist surrounds “A billionaire tech mogul, an idealistic intelligence agent, a socially awkward conspiracy theorist and a neurotic supercomputer” that have “been forced into an unlikely alliance to save San Andreas from total annihilation.”

“As apocalyptic threats mount from enemies unknown, you and your criminal crew are enlisted to un-tangle mysteries and eradicate threats spanning from the bustling streets of downtown Los Santos to the ocean floor and all the way to the inner depths of Mount Chiliad in an epic new online adventure.”

Alongside new toys to play with, The Doomsday Heist is set to bring back fan favourites throughout the course of GTA Online’s history.

KitGuru Says: It seems that GTA has, to some extent, gone a little bit Saints Row on us. Of course, I don’t mean introducing superpowers and becoming a parody of a parody, but iconic movie references while not taking itself at all seriously is quite nice. Is The Doomsday Heist enough to pull you back onto GTA Online?

In the years following Grand Theft Auto V’s launch, there was plenty of buzz surrounding potential single-player DLC. One of the game’s voice actors even teased additional content. Unfortunately, over the last year, things on that front have gone completely silent and now, Rockstar has finally shed some light on the lack of additional single-player content. As you might expect, we aren’t getting any, but here is why.

During a recent interview with Game Informer, Rockstar’s director of design, Imran Sarwar, explained that the studio didn’t make a “conscious decision” to skip on GTA V single-player DLC. He also added that as a studio, the team “loves single-player more than anything”, which may help quell concerns over Rockstar’s increasing focus on multiplayer, which has received much attention in GTA V and will also feature in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Here is the full quote from Sarwar when asked about single-player content:

“No, it was not really a conscious decision, it’s just what happened. We would love to do more single-player add-ons for games in the future. As a company we love single-player more than anything, and believe in it absolutely – for storytelling and a sense of immersion in a world, multiplayer games don’t rival single-player games.”

“With GTA V, the single-player game was absolutely massive and very, very complete. It was three games in one. The next-gen versions took a year of everyone’s time to get right, then the online component had a lot of potential, but to come close to realizing that potential also sucked up a lot of resources. And then there are other games – in particular Red Dead Redemption II. The combination of these three factors means for this game, we did not feel single-player expansions were either possible or necessary, but we may well do them for future projects.”

The full interview touches on a lot of other subjects, with Sarwar explaining why GTA Online’s Heists took so long, as well as touching on various other elements of the GTA Online experience. You can find the full Q&A here.

KitGuru Says: Given how great the characters were in GTA V, it is a shame we won’t be seeing more of them. Still, at least the door is still open for future games to get single-player expansions, though with Red Dead Redemption 2 getting its own online mode, I’m not convinced we’ll see any for that. Were any of you still holding out hope for future GTA V single-player content?

Last week, Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two, began sending out Cease and Desist letters to various Grand Theft Auto V modding groups. The first tool to go down was OpenIV, which was unfortunately key to many single-player mods in GTA IV and GTA V. While this is a great loss for the modding community, Take-Two has now turned its attention to GTA Online mods, shutting down two cheat suppliers.

Two Grand Theft Auto Online cheat menus have shut down this week, the first being Force Hax and the second being Menyoo. Both cheat providers made money via a subscription service for regular updates, which is a common business tactic in the online cheating world. Force Hax has removed its social media pages and published an apology on its website, promising to donate earnings to charity upon Take-Two's suggestion.

Menyoo's website also has an apology listed in place of all previous content. Menyoo will also be donating earnings to charity, though it is waiting on Take-Two to choose one first.

While the removal of GTA Online cheats is generally a good thing for the future of the game, GTA V players are still feeling burned by the shutdown of OpenIV. Last week, GTA V's Steam page began getting flooded with negative reviews and that hasn't stopped at all over the weekend. The game now has an ‘overwhelmingly negative' recent rating, with over 86,000 negative reviews. The game's overall rating has also been bumped down from positive to mixed.

Speaking of OpenIV, Rockstar has issued a statement of its own regarding recent events: “Take-Two's actions were not specifically targeting single player mods. Unfortunately OpenIV enables recent malicious mods that allow harassment of players and interfere with the GTA Online experience for everybody. We are working to figure out how we can continue to support the creative community without negatively impacting our players.”

So hopefully Rockstar can come up with something that can keep everyone happy. We'll be keeping an eye out for more news on that front.

KitGuru Says: Grand Theft Auto Online does have a cheating problem. However, the timing here is pretty bad. If these shutdowns had happened before word got out about OpenIV, it may have softened the blow.

If you have been waiting for a reason to log back in to Grand Theft Auto: Online, then you may want to check out the upcoming Bikers expansion. Rockstar announced its latest content drop for GTA Online recently, paving the way for players to create their own biker gangs, while also introducing new properties and a new custom mechanic.

The Biker expansion brings in new gameplay, as you climb the ranks of your gang and take on jobs to bring in more cash. Bikers will also be able to wield melee weapons while riding around, which could make for some interesting deathmatch scenarios.

actual_1474295090

Rockstar has more planned, as detailed in the announcement post: “Beyond a range of opportunities to climb the ranks within a gang and build lucrative businesses as a formidable MC, Bikers also includes a selection of appropriately-themed new modes for bikers of all kinds, along with new weapons, styles, tattoos and features to make this a huge addition to the world of GTA Online.”

Rockstar is also encouraging players to “Keep an eye out for high-level, high-risk vehicle based business ventures to spring up across Los Santos and Blaine County soon”, so expect more activities to pop up when the Biker expansion launches on the 4th of October.

While it seems that Rockstar has no plans for any single player Grand Theft Auto V DLC for the time being, the studio is continuing to bring content to GTA Online. Today, they revealed the new add-on “Further Adventures in Finance and Felony” which will be one of the biggest and deepest updates yet.

This is pitched as a follow-up to last year's Executives and Other Criminals update, which added in the ability to buy luxury yachts and some new extras. This new update coming next month will allow you to become the CEO of your own criminal organization with a big office overlooking the city.

actual_1464349328

The new update will also include new vehicles and weapons though other details are thin at the moment. Who knows, maybe Rockstar will finally add in some half-decent houses to the game, rather than forcing everyone to buy apartments if they want a luxury pad.

A trailer for the update is coming out next week, followed by the expansion itself on the 7th of June.

Back when Grand Theft Auto Online launched on consoles, the game contained a feature known as ‘Temporary Characters'. This allowed people to play online with a new character while Rockstar was having issues and apparently, this feature could return at some point in the future, which could potentially give banned players a way to get back in to the game.

One modder on the Se7ensins forum says that they have found evidence of the temporary character feature in the code for new GTA Online DLC. This would mean that temporary characters would come to the PC version of the game, despite all of the complains about anonymous cheaters back when the feature was on the Xbox 360 and PS3.

gtaonline-dlc-update-soon

The forum post lists some potential exploits that the temporary character feature could bring to the table:

1. Bypassing bans, Bad Sport status, Cheater Pool status and mic mutes.

2. Never worry about being banned, suspended, muted, kicked, reported or otherwise punished for exploring scripts online.

3. Bypass any current bans, Bad Sport statuses, Cheater Pool status, mic mutes or any other matchmaking or game-related punishment.

4. Debug the online service and test out various scripts and modding tools without being penalized.

The post does make it clear that a launch date for this feature is not apparent. It is possible that Rockstar is just laying the ground work in-case it ever does face server issues so this may not be an issue for the time being. Considering that Rockstar had to field complaints about these very same exploits back when the game launched on last gen consoles, I wouldn't be surprised of Rockstar had tweaked a few things to make it more secure.

KitGuru Says: This feature could possibly allow cheaters to get back in to GTA Online but I wouldn't necessarily count on it. Rockstar has had two years to re-work this feature at this point so it may work pretty differently if it does come back.

As fun as GTA Online is, it does have a few problems. For starters, friends can't set up their own private servers to play custom-made content together, there are quite a few cheaters floating around and everything runs on a peer-to-peer network, which can result in connection issues for many users.

Fortunately for PC gamers, we have mods, so some modders decided to create FiveM, a separate multiplayer add-on that does not link up with GTA Online, as a result, it technically complies with Rockstar's modding rules, since it only uses single-player files. Unfortunately, it seems Rockstar isn't such a big fan of the project, as the mod creators have had their GTA V accounts banned.

FiveM allows users to play Grand Theft Auto V together in servers that are separate to Rockstar's own, it also allows for custom maps and modded content online, without touching the official GTA Online files. Unfortunately, there is one part of the FiveM project that connects to Rockstar. The mod requires a Rockstar Social Club login, which the mod creators implemented to ensure that only people who owned the game could play online.

According to a report from Eurogamer, the mod's creators were the first to suffer bans from using FiveM, with regular users being targeted after, suggesting that Rockstar is dishing these bans out manually, rather than leaving it up to the anti-cheat engine.

KitGuru Says: It sounds like the FiveM project was a step in the right direction for Grand Theft Auto V multiplayer. It would be nice if Rockstar would have ‘official servers' for those who want to play through the GTA Online missions, and then allow players to set up custom ‘community servers' for those who want to play with friends and enable custom/modded content. Custom server owners could set up admins to sort out any cheaters as well, which would make everyone happy.

Quite a few Grand Theft Auto V players seem to be suffering from frame rate issues following the recent ‘Ill-Gotten Gains' part two update for the game's online multiplayer mode. Problems are currently being reported on the r/Games Subreddit, with the post getting plenty of upvotes.

Right now it is not known exactly what is causing the problems but the creators of the LCPD mod seem to think that it has something to do with Rockstar's mod protection for Grand Theft Auto Online, which is degrading performance for many players. This claim has not been confirmed so for now it is just one of the theories.

These issues were brought up with Rockstar Support, which claims that the developer is looking in to these issues and working to address them: “We have received reports of lower framerate in GTAV and GTA Online after Title Update 1.28 on PC, and we are looking into these reports now.”

That said, we don't know how long a fix will take, Rockstar Support has not been a great source of information in the past. So if any of you have yet to download the latest Grand Theft Auto V update, you may want to avoid it for the time being.

KitGuru Says: Rockstar's latest update seems to be interfering with performance on a range of PC hardware. Hopefully the development team can get a patch out fairly quick so people can resume playing as normal. Are any of you still playing GTA V or GTA Online? Have you encountered any issues with the game?

Lets kick off the morning with some good, albeit very speculative news, it looks like some story DLC could be in the works for Grand Theft Auto V, thanks to a new tease from Shawn Fonteno, the voice and motion capture actor behind the character Franklin Clinton.

Now, this isn't the first time story DLC has been teased for the game, in-fact, the same actor had teased “substantial additions in 2014 continuing Michael, Franklin and Trevor's action”, obviously 2014 came and went and no DLC has been released yet, aside from the numerous updates to Grand Theft Auto Online.

While Shawn Fonteno may not have been right when he initially spoke out on DLC, at the time Rockstar would have been working on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC versions of the game, rather than new content for the story. However, since all of that is now out-of-the-way, it would make sense for Rockstar to expand on things, especially since the game originally came out back in 2013.

This time around, Shawn posted an image of himself to instagram in front of a Grand Theft Auto poster with the caption “Shhhh…..YALL KNOW WHY I GOT THIS SUIT ON” and later put another image up of himself along with the actors for Michael and Trevor.

Obviously none of that is concrete proof of anything whatsoever but it is fun to speculate. The timing seems right as well, now that the game is out and effectively finished on all platforms. The story itself is quite old now as well so it would not be too surprising to learn that Rockstar is preparing a story expansion for GTA V.

KitGuru Says:  Having beat the story of GTA V a couple of months back, I would love to see a return to Franklin, Michael and Trevor. Do any of you hope that Rockstar is working on an expansion to GTA V's story? Any ideas for what could happen?

Grand Theft Auto V's extensive multiplayer mode, GTA Online, is set to get another big update next week, adding in several new luxury items. The update is titled “Ill-Gotten Gains” and will be split in to two parts, the first of which will add in an Airplane made of solid gold for you to fly around.

There will of-course be other luxury themed vehicles and accessories, although not everything has been revealed just yet. In Rockstar's announcement, the developers gave some background as to why these items are suddenly appearing in the GTA Online world, which is great for keeping everything ‘lore friendly': “Due to a surge in high-end crime across southern San Andreas, demand for luxury goods and services is at an all-time high. Upscale merchants of all kinds are scrambling to fill their inventories to serve the newly wealthy.”

The first part of the “Ill-Gotten Gains” update is heading to us next week, with the second part coming later on in the Summer. This is good timing too, people will have plenty of cash burning a hole in their pockets now that the Heists update has been around for a while.

Grand Theft Auto V finally hit the PC in April and so far, it has been praised by many as one of the best PC optimized games in recent memory. So far there is no news on any single-player story expansions but Rockstar has been updating Grand Theft Auto Online fairly regularly ever since its launch back on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2013.

Grand Theft Auto V is now available for the PC, which obviously means mods are on the way. The new version of the game also comes with a first person view mode, unfortunately though, you can't actually adjust the field of view while using it.

As you would expect, the modding community has already fixed this problem. The mod creator, known online as DrDaxxy, has tested the new Field of View slider in both the Steam and retail versions of the game, although there is no guarantee that a future patch will stop the mod from being compatible.

There is a problem with installing this mod though. Like with most cheats or hacks, this mod fiddles around with the game files, which could be a red flag for the anti-cheat software used by Rockstar's servers for Grand Theft Auto Online.

Rockstar has yet to confirm its stance on modding with GTA Online, so for now it might be best to only use this mod in story mode. You can download the field of view mod and find the installation instructions, HERE.

The long-awaited Grand Theft Auto Online: Heists update is finally arriving this month on consoles and will apparently take up just under 5GB of hard drive space according to Xbox One owners. The new mode doesn't launch until tomorrow but some managed to grab screenshots of the update prematurely rolling out over night.

The update will be smaller on last generation consoles, weighing in at just 1.2GB on the Xbox 360, this is likely down to the lower resolution textures and graphical assets used on the original version of the game. Rockstar's latest add on will include five online heist missions, which you can play with friends equipped with an armory of new weapons and cars.

There are set to be nine new achievements included with the update, awards range from completing the new missions to managing to pull off a heist without taking any damage.

Heists were originally supposed to launch last year before the summer but the update was indefinitely delays, presumably to speed up development on the next gen version of Grand Theft Auto V. Unfortunately, PC gamers will have to wait a little longer to get in on the action as GTA V PC was delayed until the 14th of April.
