Late last year, Rockstar Games finally revealed the next entry in the industry-defining GTA series more than a decade after the last. Announced to be coming in 2025, it would appear as though Rockstar will need more time to get GTA VI out of the door – possibly a whole extra year.

As reported by Kotaku, following the announcement that Rockstar devs will be mandated to stop working from home and instead operate exclusively from the studio’s offices, the publication took a deep dive into GTA VI’s current development.

Despite initially hoping for an early 2025 release, development is said to be “falling behind” – leading in part to the aforementioned return-to-office mandate.

While Spring 2025 is supposedly still the target, GTA VI’s release date could be pushed back to late 2025 or even 2026 in the worst-case-scenario as a “fallback plan.”

With it having been more than a decade now since the release of GTA V, the devs at Rockstar should take as much extra time as they need in order to ensure the game’s launch goes without a hitch – and more importantly to ensure the devs’ wellbeing.

KitGuru says: Are you surprised by the potential delay? Are you happy to wait till 2026 for GTA VI? What do you think of the return-to-office mandate? Let us know down below.

With the release of the first GTA VI trailer, we have finally gotten an official look at Rockstar Games’ next tentpole release. Of course, the publishing of the trailer brings with it a great deal of new details – some good, some bad. Fortunately, the game looks to be a current-gen exclusive title. Unfortunately, PC players might have to wait until 2026 to get their hands on the game.

Alongside the arrival of the first GTA VI trailer, Rockstar Games published a press release, offering additional details on the 2025 title. While it will still be a while before we can get our hands on the game, when it does finally release, it will be exclusive to current-gen platforms.

Until now, it was unknown whether GTA VI would also be released on the PS4 and Xbox One, especially as that generation never saw its own bespoke GTA title. Fortunately, it would appear as though this is not the case, meaning Rockstar’s next game should be able to take full advantage of the current-gen consoles without being held back by older hardware.

Unfortunately – as has been the case with many Rockstar Games releases – despite coming out in 2025, PC players will have to wait even longer to get their hands on the game. No mention of PC was made at all in the announcement, although based on the company’s history, expect it to arrive around a year after the console versions. This means that PC players may have to wait all the way until 2026 to get their hands on the game – though currently this is mere conjecture.

The one silver lining comes in the fact that PC ports of Rockstar titles are typically rather comprehensive, meaning that when it does eventually release, hopefully it will be a step beyond even the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions – though we will have to wait and see.

After years of anticipation, hype and excitement, Rockstar Games finally released their first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI. While undoubtedly a moment worth celebrating, the game appears to be even further away than expected, with it set to arrive some time in 2025.

Rockstar Games have officially released their first trailer for GTA VI, showing off the world, graphics, locations and the two primary playable protagonists. As expected, the trailer features an impressive amount of detail, taking all of the enhancements made for Red Dead Redemption 2 and expanding upon it – blurring the lines between gameplay and cutscenes due to its density.

Despite looking so polished, GTA VI is still a surprising ways away. With the trailer dropping in late 2023, many fans expected the game to come out at some point next year – likely during its latter half. Unfortunately, we will have to wait for more than a year still, as GTA VI is slated to arrive some time in 2025, meaning it could still be two years away at its worst.

Of course, with us having waited for over a decade since 2013’s GTA V, a year or two more isn’t the end of the world. That said, with GTA VI finally feeling like a real and tangible product, I just want to get my hands on it already.

Following leaks, rumours and a statement from the studio itself, Rockstar Games confirmed that Grand Theft Auto IV would be getting its first official trailer this December. Unsurprisingly, the announcement teaser for this upcoming trailer has garnered a massive amount of interest and excitement, becoming the most-liked gaming Tweet of all time.

Back in November, Rockstar Games President Sam Houser released a statement to Twitter announcing the impending GTA VI trailer, saying “We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto. We look forward to many more years of sharing these experiences with all of you.”

The mere mention of GTA VI in an official capacity sent shockwaves online, with the Tweet becoming the most liked gaming-related Twitter post of all time, amassing over 1.6 million likes.

Since then, the studio has posted another teaser for GTA VI, featuring an exact date and time for the announcement trailer (Tuesday the 5th of December at 9AM ET). This has now become the most-liked gaming Tweet of all time, seeing over 1.9 million likes as of the time of writing.

Additionally, the same announcement was shared to a variety of platforms, with the Instagram photo seeing more than 5.6 million likes and a Facebook post amassing over half a million reactions so far.

Since its release a decade ago, GTA V has become the second best-selling game of all time with over 190 million copies sold. It is therefore unsurprising to see just how wide-reaching interest is for the long-awaited GTA VI. It’ll be interesting to see how many views the trailer ends up getting in its first 24 hours.

A few weeks ago, Rockstar confirmed plans to unveil the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 in early December. It's not dropping this week but we won't have to wait until The Game Awards next Friday either.

In an update this afternoon, Rockstar has confirmed that the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer will be dropping on Tuesday, the 5th of December:

We've known about Grand Theft Auto 6 for quite some time, with Rockstar confirming that the game is in development earlier this year. Last September, a network breach led to the leak of hours of gameplay footage, giving fans a sneak peek at an early build of the game.

The game will be set in a revamped, fictional version of Miami and feature two protagonists, one male and one female. Unfortunately, that's about all we know so far but much more will become clear on Tuesday after the trailer comes out, and we should get a release date or a release window as well. Current rumours suggest Rockstar is targeting a late 2024 launch.

Launched all the way back in 2008 alongside GTA IV, the Rockstar Games Social Club offered “a new website that [extends] your experience of Grand Theft Auto IV and all future Rockstar Games titles”. It has since been used for the likes of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. It seems however that the service is being revamped ahead of the official announcement of Grand Theft Auto VI – now being known as ‘Rockstar Games Platform’.

As discovered by ResetEra user ‘dex3108’, Rockstar recently updated their Social Club website, removing all references to the previous name and replacing it with the ‘Rockstar Games Platform’. The only remaining reference to the social club is now in the website’s URL.

While no reason has been given for this change, it is quite clearly being done in anticipation of the upcoming GTA VI, which is set to finally be unveiled in early December.

As of right now, the functionality of the website remains as it always has, letting players track their stats; share screenshots; create crews and more.

With this rebranding however, it will be interesting to see what new functionality the studio has planned for the ‘Rockstar Games Platform’ when GTA VI releases – hopefully sometime next year.

With each passing generation we have seen AAA games becoming more and more expensive to develop. Just recently it was revealed that The Last of Us Part II and Horizon Forbidden West both cost over $200 million to make. According to one report, Rockstar Games is spending 10 times as much on GTA VI.

As reported by popular YouTuber GameRiot, the insider took to Twitter to claim that “Grand Theft Auto 6 will reportedly cost $2 billion” adding that the game has “been in development since 2014 and will be the most expensive entertainment product of all time.”

Offering a bit more context, GameRiot stated that the $2 Billion figure “includes the whole development and advertising. And post launch content”. Trusted industry analyst Daniel Ahamad replied to the Tweet, lending credence to its legitimacy.

While the concept of GTA VI costing $2 Billion sounds ridiculous, the game has reportedly been in development for almost a decade. What’s more, GTA V, which released all the way back in 2013, was said to have cost over a quarter of a Billion Dollars to develop and market. Assuming Rockstar Games has a long-term plan for the game’s inevitable Online mode, the total cost of development will undoubtedly rack up over the years.

Last but not least, GTA V is said to have made over $7.7 Billion since its release back in 2013. With how much bigger GTA is nowadays after a decade of exposure to the prior entry, GTA VI will easily make its budget back. All that said, we will have to wait and see.

We have long known that Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development and while Rockstar Games themselves have yet to officially announce the game, last year saw a huge data breach leak a bunch of in-development GTA 6 footage. With GTA V nearing its 10th anniversary, many fans have been eagerly awaiting the announcement and release of the game’s sequel. According to one insider however, we may be waiting for almost 2 more years.

The Rockstar-focused industry insider Tez2 recently took to the GTA Forums to offer an update on the development of Grand Theft Auto 6, saying (as shared by Twitter page ‘GTA6Intel’):

“Their aimed-always-changing-not-set-in-stone deadline is holiday 2024. Which has been pushed back multiple times the past few years. Unfortunately, it could slip into early 2025 as well.”

Offering their own editorial on the matter, Tez2 claimed that “I personally see an announcement as a given this year. I don't think the upper management is in a position to delay further to holiday 2025/2026. Cutting more portions of the game to package into DLCs to release later on may be [more] sustainable for management than delaying further.”

There is no denying that when GTA 6 does finally release it will be an industry-breaking event and so Rockstar have certainly earned as much time as they need in order to ensure that the next GTA is up to the series’ standard of quality. All that said, the wait for GTA 6 is more and more painful each day, and so hopefully we do see an official announcement this year.

While there were initially rumours and leaks to suggest that Grand Theft Auto V would get single-player DLC, Rockstar instead chose to drop any additional single-player content in favour of continuous updates to GTA Online. With Grand Theft Auto 6 on the horizon, rumour has it Rockstar will be looking to support the single-player side of the game with additional content post-launch.

According to Tez2, a Rockstar insider with a good track record on the GTAForums, Rockstar is planning to expand Grand Theft Auto 6 over time, with new missions and even entirely new cities to explore. These DLCs would likely be instanced, taking place in new maps and separate from the main game, similarly to Grand Theft Auto 4.

As GamesRadar reports, GTA V was going to have substantial single-player additions at one point, but those plans were scrapped when the team needed to funnel more resources into Red Dead Redemption 2, which ended up releasing in late 2018.

Rockstar has not revealed GTA 6 properly, but rumour has it that the game will take place in a new and expanded version of Vice City and its surrounding areas. It is believed that Rockstar is targeting a 2024 launch for GTA 6, which means we could see a reveal trailer in the not too distant future.

As video games have gotten more and more complicated, Rockstar Games has continued to push the boundaries of what an open world game can look and feel like. What this has meant however, is that their games are taking longer and longer to make –  so long now, that we may only see one game from the studio this generation.

This information comes from known leaker AccountNGT who – when asked “How many games should we expect from Rockstar this gen? –  responded by claiming “If we are talking about new games, then I think only GTA 6 will be released.”

While this may seem like a ridiculous statement upon initial contemplation, accountNGT isn't the only leaker to suggest such a thing.

Other pieces of evidence come from leakers such as Tom Anderson who claimed that GTA VI may not release until as far out as 2025 –  quite late into the current PS5 and series X generation.

Other accounts have also claimed that development has been going through some struggles, with the project restarting multiple times. Of course, all of this may turn out to not be the case, however, it is a possibility that fans should get used to as being the norm – especially as the PS4 generation saw a similar fate. Hopefully we do not have to wait 4 more years for GTA VI. The full Q&A hosted by AccountNGT can be found HERE.

It has been almost eight years since Grand Theft Auto V released and it doesn't look like the game is going to be usurped anytime soon. According to reports this week, Grand Theft Auto VI is still several years away.

Tom Henderson, an insider that recently rose to prominence after a string of Battlefield leaks, recently claimed that Grand Theft Auto VI is targeting a 2024-2025 release window. Other details include a modern-day Vice City map, which will expand over time through updates.

So far, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier and VGC have corroborated these claims with their own sources. Given the lengthy development time allotted, some things could change or be cut.

If Grand Theft Auto VI is targeting 2024 or 2025, then it is unlikely that Rockstar will reveal any official information until then. The studio's last game, Red Dead Redemption 2, released in 2018.

A new leak claiming to show the map for Grand Theft Auto 6 has appeared online. There are four images of the alleged map, showing that the game will take place in Vice City, as well as several islands off the coast.

According to Comicbook, the leaks began in early 2020 with two map screenshots. Later, a third image detailing one of the islands was revealed and now, a fourth image has also been shared. Connecting all four images apparently shows the full playable game world for the next Grand Theft Auto game.

There have been rumours that Grand Theft Auto 6 will return or connect previous locations from the series, such as Los Santos and Liberty City. These images, however, focus on Vice City and surrounding islands of the coast, indicating that a return to Vice City is likely. Given that Vice City is based on Miami, adding additional Caribbean-like islands to the map would fit the setting nicely. Rockstar previously experimented with adding islands to its larger game map in Red Dead Redemption 2, where a portion of the story takes place on an island away from the main map.

Rockstar has not announced anything regarding the next Grand Theft Auto officially and we unfortunately have no idea when the game might be ready to release. With that in mind, take these images with a grain of salt – there could still be a long wait ahead.

Grand Theft Auto V has been out for seven years now and while Rockstar has been keeping itself busy with GTA Online updates and Red Dead Redemption 2, we've all been wondering when we can expect GTA VI. This week thanks to some boring business paperwork filed by Take-Two Interactive, we may have a good idea as to when the game will be coming.

Take-Two Interactive filed a Form 10-K with the US Securities and Exchange Commission last week (I told you it was boring), which essentially informs the government and investors of planned spending in the years ahead. As pointed out by VentureBeat, this particular form shows that its spending for marketing in the FY2024 will be double that of what it intends to pay out in the years prior.

It is a very big jump in marketing budget, which indicates that Take-Two will have a flagship game releasing. What game could call for such a budget? Well, GTA V was one of the highest selling games in history, making GTA VI a prime candidate for extra spending.

A similar Form-10K disclosure was previously used to accurately predict when Red Dead Redemption 2 would launch. Of course, Take-Two is also a very big publisher, so perhaps it just has many more games launching in the FY2024 time period than years prior. For those who don't know, the Fiscal Year 2024 begins in April 2023 and ends in March 2024.

KitGuru Says: I would anticipate this budget jump being primarily to accommodate Grand Theft Auto 6, which should end up being just as huge a hit as GTA 5,, especially if it is coming 10 years later.

Yesterday we reported that Grand Theft Auto VI was seemingly confirmed to be in the early stages of development. Now, a well known Rockstar insider has weighed in on the news, stating that development is much further along than has been suggested. According to TezFunz2, the game is “halfway done or even beyond that.”

Yesterday’s report came via Kotaku which stated that ‘early development’ had begun on the much anticipated Rockstar title. While the developers themselves have yet to confirm the existence of a new GTA game, its development is all but guaranteed, especially as Grand Theft Auto V has sold over 120 million copies.

With the last GTA title releasing in 2013, fans may have been expecting the 6th entry in the series to be nearing its completion. Kotaku’s report would suggest otherwise. With that, TezFunz2, a well respected Rockstar insider has weighed in on Kotaku’s report, saying “a new GTA title is in ‘early stages of development’? It's hard to believe that when I'm hearing it's ‘halfway done’ or even beyond that.”

Though this news may excite fans, TezFunz2 later clarified that “RDR2 [Red Dead Redemption 2] took approximately 8 or 7 years worth of development, main production started right after RDR1 release & recording sessions began in 2013. Expect the same with the next title, unless it's ‘early’ as in we are nowhere near release which is more believable.”

Red Dead Redemption released in mid-2010, with its sequel arriving in late-2018. Putting GTA on a similar timeframe would mean that we may see Grand Theft Auto VI as early as spring 2022. Of course, Rockstar is well known for taking as much time as required to make their games as polished as possible.

We won’t truly know when GTA VI is set to release until the studio themselves confirm it. Based on what TezFunz2 has stated however, hopefully it won't be too long to wait.

Exactly what Rockstar is working on next has been a mystery ever since the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2 back in 2018. With that said, many had assumed that a new Grand Theft Auto was on the cards and now, that has seemingly been confirmed by a report on internal changes at the studio.

Kotaku's latest report on Rockstar's internal culture and how developers are feeling about working at the studio, it was noted that ‘early development' has begun on Grand Theft Auto 6.

This early work is getting under way as Rockstar makes efforts to reduce crunch periods and care more for its workers. According to those still at the studio, the changes so far have been significant enough that they are no longer planning on leaving the studio.

In the case of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, there was a five year gap between releases. With that in mind, we likely won't be seeing anything official on GTA VI until 2021, if not 2022. It will also likely be a next-gen console exclusive, possibly with a delayed PC release.

KitGuru Says: Grand Theft Auto 6 happening some day was pretty much guaranteed, especially since GTA 5 was such a huge hit. What do you all want to see from Grand Theft Auto 6? Would you want a direct sequel to 5, or a whole new cast of characters in a new location?
