It looks like the StarCraft HD remake rumours are doing the rounds again, this time claiming that Blizzard will be releasing the game as soon as May or June. The StarCraft remake would feature the same gameplay elements as the original game to get long-time fans on board but things like graphics and UI elements would be updated to modern standards.

This particular rumour comes from Korean esports site, Sports Seoul, which also claims that Blizzard might be preparing to announce this game as soon as next week. However, the report also claims that some of the major stakeholders in StarCraft as an esport were shown an early build behind closed doors at Blizzcon last November.

This isn't the first time we have heard about StarCraft coming back in HD form though. Reports first began popping up as far back as November 2015. A similar rumour also appeared in August 2016, claiming that an announcement would be made during the StarCraft 2 World Championship tournament. At the time, Blizzard refused to comment, only leading to further speculation.

KitGuru Says: As awesome as it would be to see StarCraft return in updated form, we've heard this rumour several times now and it hasn't panned out so far. I wouldn't get my hopes up for this particular rumour but we'll have to wait and see. May and June are awfully close so if this rumour is true, Blizzard would need to say something official quite soon.

It looks like Blizzard is in-fact planning to bring back some of its classic titles. We have seen HD remakes become a popular option for publishers in recent years and now it seems that Blizzard is planning to bring back the original StarCraft, Diablo II and Warcraft III, according to a recent job listing. The job specifically lists all three of those games returning to glory, with the main responsibilities ranging from making the games run on modern operating systems and implementing new features.

“Compelling stories. Intense multiplayer. Endless replayability. Qualities that made StarCraft, Warcraft III, and Diablo II the titans of their day. Evolving operating systems, hardware, and online services have made them more difficult to be experienced by their loyal followers or reaching a new generation”, the listing reads.

“We’re restoring them to glory, and we need your engineering talents, your passion, and your ability to get tough jobs done. So if you like wearing many hats, know small teams are the most effective, and look forward to challenges that will create millions of new adventures for our players: we would love to hear from you.”

Here's the full list of responsibilities:

  • Make gameplay first again on modern operating systems.
  • Create conditions for experiences that look as good as they play.
  • Own implementation and curation of features new and old.
  • Combat hacking to improve multiplayer.
  • Diagnose and fix all the things: crashes, deadlocks, overflows, heap corruptions, etc.

KitGuru Says: This is a pretty big announcement from Blizzard, especially considering the popularity of the Warcraft RTS and Diablo II. From the sounds of it, these will be remakes too, rather than basic HD remasters. What do you guys think of this? Would you like to see Blizzard bring back its classic games?

A lot of game companies seem to be pumping out ‘HD remakes' at the moment and while some titles could definitely do with the update, there have been a few questionable releases, the most recent example being the Prototype collection from Activision. However, EA has yet to jump on the HD remake bandwagon and according to COO Peter Moore, it has no interest in doing so either.

Speaking with IGN, Peter Moore said that the company doesn't necessarily view HD re-releases in a positive light, with Moore saying that “it feels like pushing stuff out because you've run out of ideas”.

While some remakes are made with very little effort put in, to put out a good one actually takes quite a bit of effort and EA doesn't want to waste time going over its back catalogue when it can be making new games instead: “Remakes, because of who we are, and this broad portfolio of intellectual property…you add all that together, I don't know where we find the time to do remakes. We're a company that just likes to push forward.”

So maybe those Mass Effect HD trilogy rumours are a little off the mark, though I would still love to see that happen if it meant that the PC versions of the game finally got controller support.

KitGuru Says: EA has some pretty great titles under its belt, though I get why it appears to be averse to HD remakes, particularly when you have the resources to push out new games. What do you guys think of HD re-releases? Are there any games in particular you would like to see spruced up?

Late last year at Sony's PlayStation Experience event, Square Enix got on stage to announce that Final Fantasy 7 would be coming to the PS4, plain old Final Fantasy 7. The crowd was not impressed, which was probably quite embarrassing for the company but now it looks like Square Enix has learnt its lesson and is finally giving fans exactly what they have been asking for over the last few years- a proper Final Fantasy 7 HD remake.

Last night at Sony's E3 press conference, it was announced that Final Fantasy 7 would be getting the remake treatment and that it would be coming ‘first to PlayStation 4'. Judging from the wording, we can assume that this is a timed exclusive and may end up on other platforms later on.

As you can see, the trailer is already looking pretty damn good so hopefully the final product will live up to expectations.

Rumours of a Final Fantasy 7 remake have been floating around for years thanks to a Square Enix tech demo released a few years back, showing off what a Final Fantasy 7 remake would potentially look like.

The game has some key developers on-board with Yoshinori Kitase signed on as producer, Kazushige Nojima as the ‘scenario designer' and Tetsuya Nomura as the director for the project. There is currently no release date but it likely won't be out until 2016.

KitGuru Says: I missed out on Final Fantasy 7 back in the day because I never got to own a PS1. I played a little of the Steam version and while I enjoyed what I played, it felt a little too dated to really get in to it. This remake could fix that problem right up, it will also bring a nice nostalgia trip for fans of the game and series as a whole.

Yesterday we reported that an Xbox 360 achievement list for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas leaked online, suggesting that Rockstar may be re-releasing the game in HD. The studio has now confirmed that the decade old game will be re-releasing digitally, replacing the original Xbox version in the Xbox Live market place but it won't be much of an improvement.

The unofficial ‘HD' edition will feature 720p resolution, enhanced draw distances and achievement support, although from what we can tell, there will be no improved textures, lighting or other graphical features, so it isn't going to be the big improvement we were hoping for and the game certainly isn't being ‘remastered' or ‘remade'. The game will release on the 26th of October.

Any save data players had from the Xbox originals version won't carry over to the new edition and while the old version will be removed from the online store, owners can still access it through their purchase history. It sounds like buyers of the original will have to re-buy again for the small improvements to the game.

A price has yet to be announced and Rockstar only commented on the Xbox version of the game, so it doesn't look like the ‘new' edition will be coming to the PS3.

KitGuru Says: This doesn't really count as a HD remake of the game, those who own San Andreas on the PC will already have access to higher resolutions, although without improved textures or lighting, the game will look largely the same. The Xbox 360 version running at 720p won't be the huge improvement many were hoping for. What do you guys think of this news? Is this disappointing? Should Rockstar consider giving San Andreas a proper remake and releasing it on all platforms?

It looks like Rockstar might be planning to release a HD remake of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas soon as an Xbox 360 achievement list has leaked online. The list contains 33 achievements in total, referencing multiple activities you'll likely remember from the game, including going to the gym to lose weight or purchasing a house.

This year also marks the ten year anniversary of San Andreas, as a result, Rockstar has released some content for GTA Online to celebrate it. There's no official word on the HD remake just yet but many have noticed that the ‘classic' version of San Andreas has been pulled from Xbox Live and the Playstation Network, suggesting that the game will be coming to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Despite the next generation consoles being out for around a year now and selling pretty well, there is no word on whether or not this San Andreas remaster will reach the PS4 or Xbox One. The studio also seems to have distanced itself a fair bit from the PC platform recently, evidenced by the lack of communication with PC owners waiting for GTA V, so it's not immediately clear if we can expect a PC release either, despite the original being wildly popular on the platform.

That said, this is all based on rumors and speculation right now so take everything you read with a pinch of salt and hold out for an official announcement from Rockstar.

KitGuru Says: Rockstar hasn't officially mentioned a Grand Theft Auto San Andreas HD remake before so its possible that it will release on all platforms, rather than just the Xbox 360 and PS3. However, we won't know for sure until an official announcement is made. Would you guys like to see a spruced up version of GTA San Andreas released? Do you think Rockstar will release a PC version?

The very first Fable game is widely considered as the best in the series, so when Fable Anniversary was first announced, both console and PC gamers alike got a little excited. However, the game only landed on the 360 and until now, we didn't know if it would ever come to PC.

Fable developer, Lionhead, has already confirmed that the game will be heading to PC now but it wouldn't say when. However, the developer has revealed that a hidden message is somewhere in the teaser trailer. A cryptic binary message is hidden in the teaser which translates to a September release window.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyEFPhXa05c']

At around 28 seconds in, you should see a tweet containing a series of zero's and one's- which is the hidden message we've been searching for.

image_38531_16x9_620

Fable Anniversary launched on the Xbox 360 earlier this year with 1080p visuals as well as new lighting and animations, which were all powered by Unreal Engine 3. However, for the PC release, which we might see more of at E3 over the next few days, it would be nice to see the game pushed even further.

PC's are far more powerful than even the latest generation of consoles. Many mid-range systems these days can support resolutions far higher than 1080p so some high res textures wouldn't go amiss. Unreal Engine 4 is also available now so an engine update would be nice to see.

KitGuru Says: I really enjoyed the first Fable so I'm looking forward to playing it again. Microsoft is trying to get back in to the PC gamer's good books so some updates that really set Fable Anniversary apart from the 360 version would definitely go down well. Would you guys pick up Fable Anniversary on Steam? What would you like to see Lionhead do to set the game apart from the 360 version?

Would you like to see some classic N64 titles remade and put on the Nintendo Eshop? I know some people who still own N64's and other retro consoles and it seems Nintendo knows too. A new rumour going around suggests that Nintendo is working on remaking several classic titles in HD, the remakes will be part of the ‘Reumagined' series for the Wii U.

The first title said to be getting the HD treatment would be Mario 64 with some added features. The game may allow two player co-op with both Mario and Luigi on the screen at the same time along with possible online and racing modes as well. Seeing this extra content would be a step in the right direction as usually when we get a HD remake it is just a graphics upgrade with nothing extra to make it feel like a new game.

The Reumagined series is said to span across seven titles and will cost $30 straight from the eShop, these will only be available on the Wii U. It's possible that the success of Zelda Wind Waker HD has got Nintendo thinking that more HD remakes will help get Wii U consoles into people's homes.

KitGuru Says: This is still just a rumour so take everything with a grain of salt but it would be interesting to see what titles come out and how this would affect Wii U sales. Would you guys be interested in seeing some older games revived for the current generation?
