CD Projekt Red has been working hard to deliver post-launch support for The Witcher: Wild Hunt since its launch back in May. We have had 16 free DLCs, eight patches and soon we will also have an expansion. The studio isn't done yet though, patch 1.09 will be launching in the next couple of weeks ahead of the first expansion, Heart of Stone in October.

Heart of Stone launches on the 13th of October so presumably patch 1.09 will help prepare the game for that, though we don't have any patch notes just yet. We also don't know if the patch will include the additional dialogue for Geralt's romance quest lines with Triss and Yennefer.

What we do know, thanks to Marcin Momot on the CD Projekt Red forums, is that “the list of changes is massive”, with lots of fixes and improvements planned across all platforms. We can also expect a slight performance boost across all platforms, though it seems that the PS4 is going to get the most noticeable bump here.

The patch itself won't be out until October, so we will likely here more over the next two weeks as we lead up to the launch of the Heart of Stone expansion on the 13th.

KitGuru Says: I'm in the process of completing The Witcher 3, it has taken me months but I am finally nearing the finish line. However, I can't say I've not noticed some minor issues along the way. Either way, CD Projekt Red has been doing a great job following the game's launch. Are any of you still playing The Witcher: Wild Hunt? Are you waiting on the new expansion next month?

CD Projekt Red just recently wrapped up its series of free DLCs for its latest hit game, The Witcher: Wild Hunt and now all focus is turning to the expansions, the first of which shall be out in October. While we have known about the two planned expansions for The Witcher 3 for some time, the development team has been pretty quiet on the details so far.

The first expansion is called Heart of Stone and according to CD Projekt Red's Travis Currit, the expansion is “almost ready and shaping up really nicely”. The comments were made on a recent PAX Prime panel. We do know that Heart of Stone is set to add in around ten hours of additional content.

The first expansion will see Geralt journey in to Oxenfurt to take on a quest from the “man of glass”. The dev team also gave a brief synopsis: “Caught in a thick tangle of deceit, Geralt will need all his cunning and strength to solve the mystery and emerge unscathed”.

Aside from the new expansion, CD Projekt Red has also teased some news for fans of the Gwent card game, hinting that it may turn in to its own standalone app, like Hearthstone.

KitGuru Says: I'm almost done with The Witcher's main story, so I'm pretty excited to hear that the first expansion will be out so soon. Are any of you still playing The Witcher? Will you be returning for the two planned expansions?

Fans of the original Witcher game will be happy to hear this as a rather important old character appears to be set to make a return in one of The Witcher: Wild Hunt's upcoming expansions. Back in the first game, players were introduced to the character Shani, a friend to Geralt who resided in Vizima and helped look after the sick and injured in the city.

She was pretty important to the story, having initially looked after Alvin at the start of the first game. However, despite her large presence in the first game, Shani was absent in the sequel though it seems CD Projekt Red has not forgotten about her as a character resembling her appears on a new image advertising the ‘Heart of Stone' expansion pack.

Heart of Stone is the first expansion set to launch in October this year with a new 10-hour quest line. The expansion will take Geralt back in to Velen to venture through no man's land. The second expansion, Blood and Wine will release early next year and will be a bit longer with a 20-hour quest line.

Not much is known about either expansion story-wise but it seems the developers are keen to bring back some familiar faces and nods back to the older games in the series.

CD Projekt Red is already keeping fans playing The Witcher 3 with its gradual roll out of 16 free DLCs for the game. However, we do have more to look forward to in the form of two expansion packs, one to launch towards the end of this year and another to launch early next year.

Now CD Projekt Red has revealed more details about its expansions, more specifically, how big they are going to end up being. It seems the developer never wants you to stop playing its game as in an interview with GameReactor, Witcher game director, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, explained that the two expansions would be about as large as The Witcher 2.

Now he means large content wise, not just in map size, which is great news as The Witcher 3 was already a great game and now we are essentially going to get a whole new game's worth of content with these new expansion packs.

“The expansion packs will be whole new storylines with all elements you got in the main story: cutscenes, new characters, new items, new Gwent cards and many more. Even now, if you sum up these 10 and 20 hours and you compare it to The Witcher 2, it's almost the size of The Witcher 2. It will be cool. It will be new stories, and it will be emotional stories. I think that people will be happy.”

The Witcher 3's first expansion is titled ‘Heart of Stone' and will be the shorter of the two planned. It launches in October this year. A standalone price has not yet been announced but we do know that the expansion pass costs £20, which isn't a bad deal considering the amount of content on offer.

KitGuru Says: The Witcher 3 swiftly became one of my favourite games, being one of the few that I've racked up more than 100 hours in so I'm looking forward to these new expansions. From the sounds of it they are going to offer plenty of value for money as well. Are any of you still playing The Witcher? Will you play the expansions when they come out?

The Witcher 3 is finally releasing next month after two lengthy delays, CD Projekt Red has already announced that it will be giving away 16 smaller bits of DLC for free but now it has also announced an expansion pass, much like a season pass, it will grant you access to two future expansion packs for the game.

The first expansion is called Hearts of Stone, which sets Geralt out on a new ten-hour adventure, where he will complete a contract from the mysterious ‘Man of Glass'. Hearts of Stone will launch in October later this year, although exactly pricing has yet to be announced.

The second planned expansion is called Blood and Wine, a longer 20 hour journey that puts you in a new in-game region, known as Toussaint. Geralt will be travelling to the new land, which is apparently untainted by past wars but it also harbors a dark secret.

As you would expect from CD Projekt Red, these expansions will be packed with content. This is also a first for the company as neither The Witcher 1 or the Witcher 2 had expansion packs. Blood and Wine won't be coming out until early next year, assuming there aren't any delays.

Both expansions will feature new and a few old characters, new weapons, armor and enemies to face. The official Witcher website has links to pre-order the expansion pass but at the time of writing, GOG is the only retailer to have it listed coming in at £20.

KitGuru Says: The Witcher 3 has been delayed twice so it may seem a little odd that CD Projekt Red is so quick to announce these big expansions prior to the actual launch of the game. However, from the sounds of it, there will be plenty of content included for those wanting to revisit the game later this year and early next year. What do you guys make of this? Do you approve of CD Projekt Red's decision to sell an expansion pass prior to the launch of The Witcher 3?
