Lenovo has teased one of its upcoming tablets via a YouTube video, the IdeaPad S2109 which runs Android 4.0 ICS and sports a 9.7-inch display. The video gives a good look at the tablet which is just 8.9mm thick and uses an alluring gunmetal unibody case.

The 9.7-inch display equals the first and second-gen iPad with its 1024×768 resolution screen. The tablet's connectivity includes a micro-HDMI port, micro-SD slot for expandable memory and a micro-USB port. There's a 1.3MP front-facing shooter, but sadly no camera on the rear.

One other feature of this tablet that's a bit of a standout is the inclusion of four SRS TruMedia-branded speakers in the back of the device. Lenovo claims the S2109's battery life to reach 10 hours which isn't too shabby, but we're yet to ascertain which SoC this tablet houses or other specs like its internal memory capacity etc.

We're still waiting on a price or when it'll launch. In the meantime you can check out the video above to get a better taste of this 9.7-inch Ice Cream Sandwich dressed slate.

KitGuru says: Given the recent price drops on the iPad 2, one would hope the S2109 will nestle in at a slightly lower price point to really gain market attraction. Also don't forget Lenovo's own IdeaTab S2 that was just recently announced – slightly larger at 10.1-inches sporting Qualcomm's new S4 MSM8960.

It appears as if announcing six phones in the lead up to Mobile World Congress just wasn't enough for LG, among them was the LG Optimus 3D Max. LG is reportedly preparing a new flagship Android that will be up against the HTC One X and Samsung's currently unannounced but highly anticipated Galaxy S III.

The phone powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 chipset is currently known within LG as the D1L. It will also pack in a 4.7 inch 720p (1280 x 720) LCD display and LTE support. The D1L will also be the first LG smartphone to ship out with the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update.

LG hopes to make the D1L Android flagship available by late May, although it is not yet clear what markets it will be heading to.

Kitguru says: The battle of the flagship Androids is soon to be heading our way, but based on current popularity it is unlikey LG will take the crown.

Another month passes by and that means one thing for fans of Android statistics; some more numbers on the amount of people running the latest Android 4.o update. If you haven't received your Android 4.0 update just yet, do not worry too much. If you have a relatively recently mid to high-end Android you can likely expect the update to reach you at some stage.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is on the rise; now on every 34th Android smartphone

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich first registered in the charts in January, where it accounted for just 0.6% of Android users. This percentage is now up to a much more respectable 2.9%, up from 1.6% last month. A growth rate of 80% in one month is pretty impressive, so it must mean that larger numbers of people are starting to see updates roll through.

Not to forget the other major Android platforms, the tablet-optimised Android 3.x sits at 3.3%, a number that should be eclipsed by Android 4.0 within the next month. Android 2.3 Gingerbread is still growing in popularity, slowly. It is up to 63.7%, from 62% last month. Hopefully this number will start to drop off next month just like Android 2.1 Eclair and 2.2 Froyo are already experiencing.

Kitguru says: I still wish Google would release the Android source code to manufacturers before they announce the update.

Last year, then Sony Ericsson and now Sony, confirmed that all 2011 Xperia smartphones will be getting an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. This vital piece of information has yet to change but the update schedule for different devices has been changed up a bit.

Sony's Xperia Ray will be getting its Android 4.0 update in April alongside the Xperia Arc S and the Xperia Neo V

Sometime in the middle of April the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray will get their Android 4.0 update. Then just under two months later in late May or early June the remaining 2011 Xperia range including the Xperia Arc, Play, Neo, Mini, Mini Pro, Pro, Active, and the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will be getting their own update.

As usual all the updates are subject to carrier certification but if you have the global, non-carrier bound version you can expect your update as soon as it starts to roll out.

Strangely, none of the updates will be available OTA and will require you to plug your phone into your computer. This is because Sony wants you to make a “conscious and informed decision to upgrade.” I'm not sure where Sony are coming from with this, I mean who wouldn't want the latest and greatest Android operating system on their phone. To add to this users won't even get an update notification on their Xperia phone.

Kitguru says: If Sony can stick to this update schedule it will be an impressive feat.

Some Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi users have received the update already and users are reporting faster screen rotations, better Microsoft Exchange support, improved camera and video performance, a new lockscreen delay after the display has been turned off setting and various bug fixes and stability improvements.

It is up to OEMs like Samsung and HTC to push out the Android 4.0.4 update to their devices but Google launch devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S,  as well as the previously mentioned Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi are currently being updated.

Kitguru says: Many Android devices will never see the light of Android 4.0.4 but it will bring welcome improvements to those that do.

If you're an existing Archos G9 Android tablet user you may or may not have been pleasantly surprised with a certain update that graced your tablet yesterday. Archos has started rolling out over-the-air updates for its G9 series tablets that will suit them up with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS).

If you haven't spotted it already, there should be a notification in the bottom right of your Archos G9 tablet's screen whereby tapping on it will allow the magic to begin.

Starting today, the over-the-air (OTA) upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich will begin rolling out to G9 owner's worldwide. Just look for the notification “A” in the lower right hand corner of your device – click it, download it and begin your Ice Cream Sandwich experience.

Certainly it will be in your best interests to do so given the option, with ICS sporting faster browsing characteristics, multitasking, many new features and generally a much smoother and more polished environment than prior Android releases all round.

Further incorporated beyond the defaults of ICS in the case of Archos' update is full 1080p support for the majority of video codecs as well as 3D video support for MKV3D files. Then there's a handy drag and drop feature incorporated into the file manager, the ability to share content wirelessly between the tablet and a computer or other DNLA compatible devices and a remote control feature allowing users to control the tablet using any other Android-based device.

KitGuru says: Finally a step in the right direction for yet another Android device maker. A shame it's taken many other manufacturers so long to make the move – worst yet, some who have no plans to.

If you have happened to receive an update to Ice Cream Sandwich on your Android device in the last few months consider yourself part of the lucky few. Google has just announced the latest figures for platform version market share and the latest Ice Cream Sandwich update holds just 1.6% of the market. This data is based on the number of devices that have accessed the Android Market in the previous fortnight.

The almost-famous Ice Cream Sandwich statue outside Google's offices

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich's uptake is growing nicely, this month it is up to a whopping 1.6%, up from 1% in data collected in January. Expect this number to grow significantly as new devices are launched and existing ones are finally updated. Android 2.3 Gingerbread is also still growing, the year old smartphone operating system is now on 62% of Android devices, up from 58.6% earlier in the year.

Android 2.2 Froyo takes a bit of a nose dive, down to 25.3% from 30% just a couple of months ago. While Android 3.x Honeycomb tablets gobble up 3.3% of the Android pie.

Kitguru says: Expect Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich's numbers to grow in the next few months as Android smartphones and tablets are released or recieve updates.

While it wasn't to be for Samsung's Galaxy S III to rattle the cages at MWC this year, we are at least starting to get some real meat on what Samsung has in store for us with its next flagship handset and we're sure you'll really like the sound of what Samsung's innovators have come up with!

The display Samsung is said to be incorporating into the GS III is next to jaw-drop worthy. The company has managed to create a market-ready 4.8-inch sized 16:9 display for the phone which boasts an incredible Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution – a big step up from its already super impressive 1280 x 720 4.65-inch screen used for the Galaxy Nexus and certainly a good chunk superior to Apple's 960 x 640 Retina display on the iPhone 4S.

Further to that wow'ing attribute of Samsung's next big talked about handset, we can also share out a few more details fresh from the rumour mill on the supposed specs. The phone will apparently sport a 1.5GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor housed in a ceramic casing with 4G LTE connectivity and of course with Android 4.0 on tap. Its camera setup will be an 8-megapixel on the rear and a 2-megapixel on the front.

At this stage we're itchin' to hear more on Samsung's Galaxy S III but will have to sit tight for now until more solid info filters out.

KitGuru says: The image used in this article was a mock-up from the source, but we can only hope the real deal turns out similar. Edge-to-edge 1080p 4.8-inch screen? Yes please Samsung!

Saving your pennies for a shmick new Galaxy Nexus? Today might be your lucky day with Expansys significantly decreasing the price of this high end handset to just £399, down from the usual price of £549.

You must be super quick however, as this offer is limited to today only and with limited availability (said to be only 200 units). If all 200 are sold by the time you read this, Expansys have said the price will go back to the pre-promotion price of £449.99. So once again, jump all over it now if you've got a soft spot for this lovely handset and can scrounge up the dosh.

KitGuru says: And sure enough, all 200 were snapped up like hot cakes. But as mentioned before, the pre-promotional price tag of £449.99 is still a good deal if you were waiting for a good time to pounce on the Nexus..

Also, in response Amazon is now offering it for the same price.

Germany is well and truly Apple's stomping ground when it comes to anything related to lawsuits and today German courts have ruled in favour of Apple in a lawsuit against Motorola. Apple has been granted an injunction against Motorola for utilizing the “slide to unlock” style lockscreen which is patented by Apple in the EU and the USA. The same patent is also currently being used against Samsung in California which is briefly mentioned in this article.

Before going any further, no, this does not mean Motorola phones and tablets are going to be banned from sale in Germany overnight. Motorola intends to appeal the ruling which is bound to take months to complete.

Image of the patent that Apple is using to get an injunction against Motorola in Germany.

Apple's patent covers the concept of moving a tracked image from left to right in order to unlock a phone. Looking at more recent versions of Android such as Honeycomb 3.x and Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0, Google has moved towards a circular lockscreen which the German court  has specifically said do not infringe on Apple's patents. This means that even if Motorola's appeal is rejected it is unlikely to have a major impact on Motorola and the larger world of Android.

Kitguru says: I am no fan of Apple's “slide to unlock” feature, nor their mob of lawyers for that matter. I'd prefer Android 4.0's more feature-rich lockscreen any day of the week.

Hardware specifics are minimal as yet, but according to the source its profile is said to be around 0.4-inch (10mm) thick and it will have a 4.3-inch HD display with Dolby Sound incorporated.

Acer is said to have the CloudMobile slated for a Q3 release.

Samsung have been in the news almost every day due to their heated legal battle with Apple in the courts. With Apple having successfully blocked some of their products in Australia, Germany and the Netherlands Samsung have announced a new wonderfully curved smartphone/tablet based around the upcoming Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

Samsung have released a video teaser for their user base and it certainly looks attractive, with the stylish curves and sleek appearance set to gain the attention of the discerning mobile audience.
