The Monster Hunter series has always been one of Capcom’s biggest, but with the release of Monster Hunter World in 2018, the franchise reached new heights becoming the best selling Capcom game of all time with over 20 million copies sold. The main game’s success seems to have trickled down to its DLC, as the Iceborne expansion has now sold over 10 million copies.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Monster Hunter page said “We're celebrating another #MonsterHunter series milestone! We're happy to announce that Monster Hunter World: Iceborne has surpassed more than 10 million copies sold! Thank you!”

Back in March of 2020 – 6 months after the release of Iceborne – we reported that the expansion had sold 5 million copies. While it may have taken some time to double this figure, the fact that an expansion requiring the base game has sold over 10 million copies is huge, and proves that not only are Monster Hunter fans great in number, but also dedicated to the games.

With Monster Hunter Rise selling over 11 million copies across just Switch and PC – and its expansion ‘Sunbreak’ surpassing 5 million, it will be interesting to see which of the two titles ultimately ends up being Capcom’s best-selling of all time.

Monster Hunter World has had a fantastic run over the last couple of years, going on to become the game of the generation for many. The game got another boost last year with the Iceborne expansion, but it is time for the sun to set on that story, with the final major update being announced this week.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne will be getting its last major update in October called ‘The Last Stand'. As the name suggests, this will put players against their biggest challenge yet – Fatalis.

For those who don't know, Fatalis is a legendary Dragon that first appeared in the original Monster Hunter game as an online-only boss, something that wasn't nearly as common back in the PS2 days. The Last Stand update will bring him back for modern Monster Hunter players to test their skills against.

Aside from this massive boss fight, this update also includes some other additions, including master rank layered armour sets, the Clutch Claw skill allowing you to beat down on monsters after just one hit no matter if you're using a light or heavy weapon, as well as new decorations for your private room. There will also be a seasonal event in October for Halloween, during which players can get themed armour for their Palico and a new costume for your handler.

KitGuru Says: The Last Stand update is coming on the 1st of October and should serve as a fantastic end to what has been a great expansion. Do you think we'll see a second Monster Hunter World expansion next year? Or will Capcom be busy working on the next big sequel instead?

If you have been waiting on the next big update for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, then you unfortunately will have to wait a bit longer. Just recently, Japan went into lockdown due to COVID-19, which is now having an impact on game development and updates across many developers, Capcom included.

In an update today, the Monster Hunter team confirmed that future content updates are going to be delayed and won't hit the initial dates on the roadmap:

“Impacts on production have made it necessary to postpone the release of the fourth free title update for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne”, Capcom's statement reads. The post goes on to add that voice-over recordings and production for different language versions of the game have also impacted, so Italian, Spanish and French voice work will be replaced with “simplified recordings”.

Current on-going events in Monster Hunter World are being extended to make up for the gap between content drops. We should get more updates on the status of future content in a few weeks time.

With Monster Hunter World: Iceborne's early PC issues now presumably resolved by the latest patch, it is time to start looking towards the content updates and big events coming in 2020. Just like the base game, Iceworld will feature new hunts and special collaboration events. This time around though, Capcom is aiming to achieve update parity between PC and consoles, meaning no platform has to wait longer than the other.

Iceborne on consoles is already a couple of months ahead of PC in terms of post-launch content updates, so it will take a while for PC to catch up. Currently, Capcom expects to ‘sync' up all platforms from April 2020 onward, which is good timing, as the “return of a fan-favourite monster” is coming in May.

In the image above, you can see the current update roadmap, with the Racoon City collaboration event coming in February. In March, PC players will get two new monsters to hunt and in April, there will be an in-game festival event, new high-rank versions of existing monsters and new variants for two existing monsters.

There will be more updates for the second half of the year, with content coming to all platforms at the same time. We don't know what this will include, but hopefully we can expect some more big collaborations as well as some returning monsters from past games.

While Monster Hunter World: Iceborne's PC release was hampered by a couple of major issues, Capcom has been quick on the case. Earlier this week, Capcom announced that a patch would be rolling out ‘within a few days' to address CPU utilisation and save error issues. Now, just in time for the weekend, that patch has begun rolling out on Steam.

The patch is small, requiring just a 250mb download. The two biggest takeaways here are that CPU utilisation should be lower during active gameplay, but results will vary depending on each user's PC config and specific CPU. The next is that the issue preventing old save files from converting to Iceborne is also addressed.

While the save file issue has been fixed, those returning to Iceborne with a save file dated before the 30th of October will need to re-bind any custom key configuration, as all keybindings will be reset to default after installing the new patch.

If you get a prompt saying ‘failed to load keyboard setting presets', then this can be safely ignored. This error message appears for those loading an old save file dated before the October 30th 2018 patch, which added key rebindings to the game.

This update will bring you up to Monster Hunter World: Iceborne title version 10.12.01, for matchmaking, you will need to have other players running the same version in order to team up for multiplayer.

It has been one week since Monster Hunter World: Iceborne launched on PC. Unfortunately, while the expansion was well received on consoles last year, the PC version came out with some issues. Capcom has been investigating since then and today, the publisher gave us an update on the upcoming patch.

Capcom has acknowledged that many players are having issues with CPU utilisation being abnormally high since the expansion came out. Capcom is also working to fix the save data errors impacting some players.

The patch is coming “in the next few days” so hopefully the game will be fixed up by the end of this week. If you are encountering the “failed to read save data” error, then don't click the option to create new save data as this can overwrite your Steam Cloud save file.

As for what is causing the save error, it appears that this bug has been laying dormant since October 2018, when Kulve Taroth was added to Monster Hunter World as part of a title update.

The Monster Hunter series has always been very popular in Japan but it had niche appeal over in the west. That changed with Monster Hunter World, which quickly went on to become Capcom's best selling game ever. Now, thanks to the launch of the Iceborne expansion, Monster Hunter World is setting records once again for the publisher.

As of January 2020, Monster Hunter World has sold 15 million copies, meanwhile, the new Iceborne expansion has sold four million since. The expansion arrived on consoles in September 2019 but just recently made its way over to PC, which has proven to be a very popular platform for Monster Hunter World, with the game appearing in Steam's annual best sellers lists for two years straight.

With Monster Hunter World and its expansion being such a success, the franchise as a whole has managed to set a new record too. Across the many games in the series, 61 million Monster Hunter games have been sold worldwide.

Of course, right now there are some problems with Iceborne on PC, which could slow down early sales of the expansion on Steam. Still, there is plenty of time to recover, as frequent events, crossovers and new hunts will keep players interested for a long time to come.

Last Thursday, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne finally arrived on PC after a lengthy stint on Xbox One and PS4. Unfortunately, the new expansion didn't come without issues, with some PC players reporting a loss of save files and poor performance.

Currently, Iceborne has a ‘mixed' reception on Steam, with some of the highest rated reviews pointing out performance issues. In particular, much higher CPU usage seems to be a common problem, causing performance hits in old areas of the game in addition to the brand new area. Beyond that, a lot of players are taking issue with the fact that some of the default keybindings changed with the introduction of Iceborne, forcing players to re-learn certain actions, or dive back into the options menu to fix their settings.

A rarer but major issue is the fact that some players have lost their save files. The Iceborne expansion launch came with an update to the Monster Hunter World base game too and some players have encountered an error with save files not being compatible with the latest version of the game. Once you exit the game, that save file is automatically uploaded to Steam Cloud Saves, causing more of a headache.

Capcom is aware of these issues at the moment and is investigating but so far, we don't have a fix. In the meantime, Nexusmods has Iceborne-ready save files and save transfer tools that may help some users jump in quicker. You may also want to ensure that you have a local backup of your Monster Hunter World save files, or disable Steam Cloud syncing with the game before launching Iceborne for the first time.

Monster Hunter World was one of the most popular games to come out in 2018 and Capcom has been looking to keep that going in 2019 with the massive Iceborne expansion. Currently, the expansion is available on Xbox One and PS4, but PC players will have the opportunity to jump in themselves in January, complete with enhanced features.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is coming to PC on the 9th of January. Ultra-wide support is available in the base game now and will remain in place for Iceborne. There will also be an optional high resolution texture pack and DirectX 12 support is included too. You can get an early look at the PC version in the 4K/60 trailer below:

As we saw with the base game, Iceborne will continue to be updated over time with free DLC, events and new hunts. Iceborne also adds Master Rank hunts, so the truly dedicated players will have a new tier to aim for.

The Iceborne expansion will be £34.99 at launch. There is also a deluxe edition with a few extra cosmetics for £41.99. The first free update on PC after launch will include Rajang, a monster from earlier games in the series. There will also be some Resident Evil themed costumes and updates to the player’s room.

KitGuru Says: Monster Hunter World is still going strong and Iceborne has already garnered plenty of praise on consoles and will hopefully do just as well on PC. Are many of you planning on grabbing Iceborne when it comes to Steam?

Monster Hunter World is an excellent game and for the most part, is equally as good when played in co-op. However, there has been one odd issue with Monster Hunter: World's difficulty scaling since it came out, making some two-player hunts extremely difficult but perfectly fine in single-player or with a full party. This issue is finally going to be addressed this year alongside the new Iceborne expansion.

Capcom is working on the Iceborne expansion right now, which will make some changes to the core game for everyone, while the new content will be reserved for expansion buyers. One such new feature is dynamic difficulty scaling, so a monster's health will scale better based on the number of people taking part.

Up to this point, Monster Hunter: World has had two difficulty settings, one for single-player and one for multiplayer. The issue is that the multiplayer difficulty doesn't scale down depending on the number of people in your party, nor does it reduce monster health if someone drops out or disconnects from the hunt.

The new dynamic difficulty system will change that. So if you go into a hunt with a teammate and they get disconnected, you won't be stuck in a fight scaled for multiple players. In addition, two-player hunts will have a different level of difficulty compared to three or four player sessions. This system will roll out later this year for all owners of the main game and will also be part of the new expansion.

KitGuru Says: Capcom has been doing a great job of supporting Monster Hunter: World since it launched. Tweaks like this should also help aid the game's longevity, especially in later years when getting a full squad might be more difficult. Are many of you still playing Monster Hunter from time to time? What do you make of the upcoming difficulty changes?

Late last year, following Monster Hunter World's win at The Game Awards, Capcom announced that a full expansion would be heading our way this year called ‘Iceborne'. At the time, very few details were given but that changed last night, with the publisher giving us more details on the new ‘Hoarfrost Reach' region, which will be the largest area in the game to date.

The Iceborne expansion will take place in Hoarfrost Reach, a new area of the map covered in snow and ice. Hunters will need to take weather conditions into account when going out on missions, as extreme temperatures will have an impact on stamina. With that in mind, players will need to make sure they are properly stocked up before going out on new hunts.

Of course, a new region also leads to new monsters, some are returning from older games, including the Banbaro and the Beotodus. Meanwhile, newer monsters like the Velkhana will pose as one of the biggest challenges yet. The Velkhana is an elder dragon with ‘the ability to freeze all'.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne will require the base game to play but there will be a new ‘Master Edition' of the game that includes both the expansion and main game. Iceborne will release on consoles on the 6th of September- those of us on PC will have to wait a bit longer, with the game set to come out during the Winter months later in the year.

KitGuru Says: Iceborne looks like an awesome expansion so far. Will many of you be returning to Monster Hunter World when this new expansion drops?

2019 is already shaping up to be another great year for Monster Hunter: World. Not only will the game be getting a Witcher 3 crossover, but Capcom has also announced the first full expansion, ‘Iceborne'.

The Iceborne expansion will bring along new high-rank quests, new monsters, new map areas, new moves and new equipment to play around with. As the name suggests, we'll be taking on much colder monsters this time around.

The Iceborne expansion unfortunately won't be out until ‘Autumn 2019', so there is still quite a lengthy wait ahead. If anything, I'm surprised that this announcement wasn't made during The Game Awards, particularly since Capcom had some stage time after winning ‘Best RPG' for Monster Hunter: World.

Prior to the expansion's launch, Monster Hunter: World will continue to be supported with special events. The first of which will see Geralt of Rivia appear in the game to take on a series of quests.

KitGuru Says: Monster Hunter: World is a lot of fun and is still full of active players. Hopefully Iceborne will just be the beginning of future expansion content. Are any of you still playing Monster Hunter? Will you be coming back for next year's expansion?
