The Initiative's Perfect Dark reboot was announced about three years ago, so you'd be forgiven for thinking we might get our first good look at it in the next year or so. Unfortunately, it sounds like development is making slow progress and is still quite a ways off.

A new report from IGN cites roughly 13 developer sources who have worked on the game since 2019. The overall picture painted is one of disarray, with the project reportedly suffering “roadblock after roadblock”, ranging from technical challenges to initial issues with the co-development partnership with Crystal Dynamics.

Those speaking on the game's progress seemed to claim that the game is still at least two to three years away. This would mean that Perfect Dark won't be coming out until late 2025 at least but it could potentially slip into 2026.

Of course, in the meantime, Microsoft does have a pretty solid line-up of titles, including Obsidian's Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, Playground Games' Fable reboot, which finally got a gameplay trailer earlier this month, as well as Hellblade 2 from Ninja Theory. The Coalition is also hard at work on the next Gears of War and we're bound to see a new Forza Horizon thrown in there too.

After years of waiting for the next mainline title in the franchise, SEGA finally showed off gameplay for Sonic Frontiers to fans. Unfortunately, as of now, the game’s ambitions seem to be held back by a large number of technical issues. According to SEGA however, the footage seen so far is from an “Early Build,” lending hope for the final game.

SEGA partnered with IGN to give the first real look at Sonic Frontiers, with multiple minutes of pure gameplay shown off, from combat to traversal and more. Unfortunately, the footage was met with a great deal of backlash from fans, due to a number of major glaring issues, as well as some smaller nitpicks.

According to IGN’s senior editorial producer Mitchell Saltzman, “it's worth emphasising that this gameplay and the version that I played were from an early build,” adding that “Ultimately, my time with this early build answered the one question I had on my mind – will Sonic's one-of-a-kind gameplay translate into open-world? The answer is a resounding absolutely.”

One of the biggest issues with the footage was the fact that the game suffered from an excessive amount of pop-in, with obstacles and more not appearing until Sonic was nearly on top of them – a major concern considering Sonic’s speed. While it is safe to assume that the pop-in issue will be resolved by the time the game is released, many of the other fundamental design elements are likely too far deep into development to be changed.

That being said, according to Saltzman, what has been shown so far is but a small slice of the game, with the full experience offering an enticing gameplay loop in the form of: “Explore open world > solve puzzles to open up map > find collectibles to improve stats > fight world bosses to earn portal gears > use portal gears to unlock linear Sonic levels > complete linear Sonic levels to unlock chaos emeralds.”

It’s safe to say that Sonic Frontiers may have gotten off on the wrong foot with fans of the franchise. Hopefully Saltzman is right with their assessment of the game and that when Sonic Frontiers does finally launch, it is met with a wave of positivity. We will have to wait and see.

Back at E3 2018, Bethesda made headlines with the announcements of Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI, its next two major RPGs. This week, Bethesda also addressed the future of the Fallout series, confirming that it does have some ideas for Fallout 5, but the game is going to take a very long time to reach release.

In an interview on IGN Unfiltered, Bethesda Game Studios lead, Todd Howard, addressed the future of Fallout, confirming that the studio has a rough outline of what it wants to do with the game, and adding that it is likely that Fallout development remains in-house at Bethesda, rather than being handed off to one of Microsoft's other RPG studios, like Obsidian or InXile:

“Fallout's really part of our DNA here. We've worked with other people from time to time, I can't say say what's gonna happen. You know, we have a one-pager on Fallout 5, what we want to do. I'd like to find a way to accelerate what we do, but I can't really say today or commit to anything, what's going to happen when, other than our cadence is Starfield then Elder Scrolls 6”.

Currently, Bethesda Game Studios is working on Starfield, its first brand new IP in decades. That game is due out in November 2022, and then, the team will turn its attention to The Elder Scrolls VI.

Development on Starfield began back in 2015, right after Fallout 4 shipped. The Elder Scrolls VI should enter development after Starfield launches next year and assuming it will take five years or so to develop, it is entirely possible that Fallout 5 doesn't enter production until very late this decade. In other words, it could be 2030 by the time we actually see Fallout 5, unless Bethesda lets another studio take the lead, or greatly expands its operations to allow for simultaneous development.

KitGuru Says: Fallout fans are going to be waiting a long time for the next entry in the series, unless we get another New Vegas style spin-off from a non-Bethesda studio.

The ESA, who is responsible for the annual E3 gaming convention, recently confirmed that after skipping 2020, E3 would be coming back later this year. With the event being digital this year, and in order to “extend its reach to video game fans worldwide,” the ESA announced that it has teamed up with IGN, Polygon, GamesRadar and more.

Making the announcement, the ESA revealed that it “has joined forces with IGN, Future Games (PC Gamer and GamesRadar), GameSpot, Polygon, IGN China and Game Bonfire” in order to expand the reach of 2021’s digital E3 event as far and as wide as possible.

This has reportedly been done with the intention of providing “an unmatched experience with new levels of access for fans around the globe with major publisher showcases, press conferences, thrilling reveals, extended livestreams and special guest appearances, available free online for all attendees.”

These media outlets have been brought in to “integrate and cross promote programming and coverage within the E3 experience. This includes coordinated broadcasts, wide coverage, media talent participation and original programming, among other features.”

E3 historically has relied on its in-person events as well as the spectacle of the games showcases (many of which featured live performances, stage props and more) in order to draw in as big a crowd as possible. With this not being the case this year, it is understandable that the ESA has pursued this audience reach via other methods. It will be interesting to see how E3 pans out this year.

With E3 2020 cancelled due to COVID-19, game studios have been moving to other venues to make their big summer game announcements. IGN was due to host a ‘Summer of Gaming' event starting this week, while CD Projekt Red was going to host ‘Night City Wire' next week. Both events have now been postponed in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The IGN Summer of Gaming event will now kick off on the 8th of June instead, a move made “out of respect for and in support of those rightfully demanding justice and change”. Similarly, CD Projekt Red will move its Night City Wire stream from June 11th to June 25th to make way for “more important discussions” to take place.

Earlier this week, Sony also delayed its PlayStation 5 games showcase indefinitely, stating: “we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.”

Many other companies in the games industry have also been posting messages of support for the Black Lives Matter movement this week, as protests over police brutality, racism and the horrific murder of George Floyd continue.

KitGuru Says: New game announcements will come in due time, but hopefully these messages of support from large publishers and studios don't begin and end with a tweet. There are plenty of fundraisers in place and in need of donations.

When the ESA first confirmed that E3 2020 would not be going ahead due to COVID-19, they assured fans that a digital event would take place in its stead, ensuring that one of gaming’s biggest expos would still hold a presence in 2020. An industry insider has now claimed that these plans for a digital E3 have fallen through, with an official announcement set to be made sometime this week.

Reported by Mike Futter, the industry consultant has claimed that “despite weeks to pull something together, The ESA will not hold any sort of online E3 event,” with the Entertainment Software Association instead “lean[ing] on its publisher and developer partners” for gaming announcements in 2020. The official confirmation of this cancellation is said to take place sometime this week.

Back in early March, E3 2020 was officially cancelled with the ESA claiming that an alternative online experience would be taking place in its stead. According to Futter, the reason for this further cancellation of the digital event is due to the fact that “the ESA apparently tried a last ditch effort to woo publishers,” but its pitch was “shot down.”

This news, if true, is interesting especially due to the fact that IGN recently announced that it would be hosting a “Summer of Gaming” event in June featuring “live broadcasts and on-demand programming”. A number of companies have been announced to be involved, including: 2K; Square Enix; SEGA; Bandai Namco; Amazon; Google Stadia; Twitter; Devolver Digital; THQ Nordic; and more.

Though the ESA have already officially announced E3’s physical return in 2021, the rumoured cancellation of its digital event, alongside the creation of alternate announcement platforms doesn't bode well for the annual event, which in recent years has had a number of high profile publishers distance themselves from it.

That, alongside the fact that the ESA have suffered from a number of security related controversies, indicates that perhaps E3’s dominance as the main event for major video game announcements may be wavering. Only time will tell.

After the cancellation of E3 2020, ESA (Entertainment Software Association) has already set the date for E3 2021, scheduled for June 15-17. Although there are no details regarding E3 2020's “online experience”, IGN has also announced that it will host Summer of Gaming in June 2020.

Last month, ESA announced that the yearly E3 wouldn't happen in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the announcement, ESA also stated that it was searching for alternatives, including an online event that would be held during the date scheduled for E3 2020.

Although there were no details shared by ESA regarding E3 2020's online event, it has already scheduled E3 2021 for June 15 to 17. ESA also stated that E3 2021 event would be a  “reimagined” experience, but no further details were shared.

Fortunately, even if E3 2020 doesn't happen, IGN has announced Summer of Gaming, scheduled for early June of 2020, similar to E3's scheduled date. This event will be composed of “live broadcasts and on-demand programming”, including publisher presentations and developer interviews about the next upcoming games and hardware. IGN has partnered with multiple publishers and studios for this event, including 2K, Square Enix, SEGA, Bandai Namco, Amazon, Google Stadia, Twitter, Devolver Digital, THQ Nordic, and more.

Additionally, other publishers also stated that they will hold their own events, including Xbox and Limited Run Games. According to VGC, there are other publishers like Ubisoft and Nintendo thinking about holding a replacement event for E3 2020. On the other hand, Warner Bros. Games had plans to show a new Batman video game, a new open world Harry Potter title, and a new title developed by Rocksteady Studios, the developer behind Batman's Arkham series.

Ever since Filip Miucin’s public ejection from IGN, the publication has continued to monitor accusations of his plagiarism as examples have continued to flood in left, right and centre. In order to avoid further damage, IGN has opted to remove all of Miucin’s content since he was hired in October 2017, filtering through what can go live once again.

The controversy began when YouTuber Boomstick Gaming revealed that the former IGN writer had lifted many elements of his Dead Cells review just two weeks after publication. Miucin’s attempted apology video to IGN and developer Motion Twin was poorly received, criticised for its omission of any true apology to the original creator of the content as well as playing victim to Kotaku’s Jason Schrier, who was blamed for inciting “a gigantic lynch mob” against the former writer. “You can keep looking Kotaku, and please let me know if you find anything,” Miucin said before the video was removed.

Miucin’s reviews for FIFA 18 and Metroid: Samus Returns were highlighted on his personal YouTube channel as being derivative of NintendoLife and Engadget’s pieces respectively, however more examples have been brought forward on ResetEra since. A number of similarities were found between Miucin’s Beyonetta 2 review and Polygon’s, with just two weeks between each publication. Miucin can be heard speaking NeoGaf member Cartho’s description of HD rumbling verbatim, even passing off the user’s belief as his own opinion. Perhaps the biggest kick in the teeth, however, was his Octopath Traveler op-ed that lifts from IGN’s very own review.

IGN reviews editor Dan Stapleton took to Twitter to state that enough evidence had been brought forward for the site to begin making amends, starting with the removal of any and all Filip Miucin content. While Stapleton calls this a “process” in that it will take some time, the aim is to filter Miucin’s content through for eventual republication when it’s confirmed that it is original work. Despite being a large undertaking, IGN also hopes to review the affected video games once again with a different author, much like its effort with Dead Cells.

“Deeply disappointed and upset that it’s looking more and more likely that we unwittingly hosted work that was directly lifted from or at best heavily derived from others,” wrote IGN editorial manager Justin Davis on Twitter. “I assure you we are taking very active steps to remove it all, and make it right. I feel betrayed.”

KitGuru Says: If it wasn’t clear before, it is now that Miucin’s work crosses the line of unacceptable for any reputable site. It’s good to see IGN taking such a staunch stance against it, not forgetting the publishers and developers caught in the crossfire.

Former IGN Nintendo Editor Filip Miucin posted a video to his YouTube channel over the weekend, addressing his very public firing amidst plagiarism allegations. Before the video was removed, Miucin claimed that he was the victim of “a gigantic lynch mob” sent by publications over circumstantial similarities, despite two more examples cropping up in the aftermath.

As the “editorial lead” behind IGN’s now-retracted Dead Cells review, Miucin claimed to “take complete ownership of what happened,” blaming the supposed circumstances on his process of reviewing. Claiming it to be standard within the industry, Miucin stated that he researched “all resources” that were available, which presumably includes Boomstick Gaming’s Dead Cells review.

Although Miucin’s account of the situation swiftly moves onto an apology towards IGN staff and Dead Cells developer Motion Twin, as well as encouragement for Boomstick Gaming to continue creating content, the video began to highlight where the former editor feels he has been wronged in the situation. Given the public nature of his firing, Miucin has received a number of hate mail and threats.  He attributes a lot of this to Kotaku’s Jason Schreier for bringing attention to the similarities between his FIFA 18 Switch review that was posted just days after Chris Scullion’s NintendoLife review of the same game.

NintendoLife: It actually works well; as long as you aren’t a stickler for intricate animation detail, you’re going to have fun here. It runs smoother than a greased-up jazz musician too, with a full 60 frames per second in both docked and handheld mode making for a silky performance and the general feel that you’re playing a high quality product. Although its (slightly less silky-smooth) cutscenes and other close-up moments reveal that the character models are a good deal less detailed than their Xbox One and PS4 counterparts, squint a bit during normal gameplay and you’d genuinely struggle to tell the difference.

Miucin: But when you’re playing the game, it actually works really well, and it’s easy to look past the graphical setbacks. Because whether you’re playing docked or undocked, the game seems to run at a consistent 60 frames per second, which looks silky smooth and really leaves you feeling like you’re having a true triple-A home console experience but on a console you can take with you on the go. However, when you get up close and get a good look at some of the character models, it’s pretty clear they do have a good amount of less detail than the Xbox One and PS4 versions do, but any imperfections are pretty much unnoticeable during gameplay.

Miucin refuted this as evidence of a repeated offense prior to his stint at IGN, which prompted Scullion to produce his own YouTube video highlighting the identical structure and similarities in phrasing throughout. Many have come to Miucin’s defence, boiling down a good portion to simple facts that aren’t owned by Scullion, however it turns out there is another example dated even earlier.

‘Should You Buy It? Metroid: Samus Returns for Nintendo 3DS Review’ was posted on September 13th, 2017, just five days after Engadget’s review of the title. Once again, it showcases an undeniably close-to-identical structure, keeping the same examples in the same places while swapping out some terminology for synonyms.

Engadget: Samus Returns takes the hero and the franchise back to its roots — from level design that encourages exploration and satisfying enemy encounters to the traditional 2D platforming style that helped birth the term “Metroidvania.”

Miucin: Samus Returns takes the legendary hero and franchise back to its roots, with everything from its satisfying enemy encounters and intelligent level design that encourages exploration to the traditional 2D action platforming style that literally helped define an entire genre of video games.

Engadget: For veterans of the franchise’s more traditional games, it feels like coming home. Samus Returns builds on the tight, exploration platforming of Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission, and then adds to it.

Miucin: For fans of the more traditional style games in the series, you’ll immediately feel right at home playing Samus Returns, because it shares the same near-perfect formula of exploration platforming with the other entries in the franchise like Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, and Metroid: Zero Mission, but then greatly builds upon it with some really interesting new gameplay mechanics.

Needless to say, IGN staff aren’t taking the actions of Miucin too well, with Reviews Editor Dan Stapleton likening apology to Kevin Spacey’s flippant response to sexual assault allegations, stating that “Getting stabbed in the back and lied to doesn't bring out my best qualities.” PC Editor Tom Marks added to this with his own post to make it clear that “plagiarism isn’t a mistake: it’s a choice.

KitGuru Says: To me, it seems as though a thesaurus was taken to someone else’s work one too many times for it to have been a by-product of a faulty process. Regardless of Miucin’s intentions, however, I hope he can own up to the mistakes made and offer a proper apology to IGN, Motion Twin and the content creators hurt in the process.

Update (08/08/18): IGN found itself knee deep in controversy earlier this week after YouTuber Boomstick Gaming pointed out a number of similarities between his Dead Cells review and that of the publication’s Nintendo Editor Filip Miucin. After an internal investigation, IGN has parted ways with Miucin and is in contact with Boomstick Gaming to make amends.

After Boomstick Gaming revealed the similarities, IGN removed both the video and written versions of its review, with the latter redirecting to a statement apologising for incident. This has since been updated to reveal that the publication is no longer working with Miucin. “We will work tirelessly to ensure that, regardless of whether you agree with our reviews, you can have faith that every word is nothing less than the genuine opinions of our critics,” IGN explains.

“Though we as a community often share feelings and even certain word choices to describe the games we love by using similar frames of understanding, this particular situation stepped over the line and is not a reflection of our editorial standards. We apologize to our readers, developer Motion Twin, and most especially the YouTuber known under Boomstick Gaming for failing to uphold those standards.”

IGN co-founder Peer Schneider has added separately that the company is in contact with Boomstick Gaming to recompense Miucin’s wrongdoings. Boomstick has received overwhelming support from the press and neighbouring YouTube personalities for his plagiarism plight, helping his channel surge from 11,000 followers to 38,000 and counting in just a few days.

Dead Cells developer Motion Twin will see another, presumably more genuine IGN review appear in the coming days.

Original Story (07/08/18): IGN has turned heads with its latest review of Motion Twin’s Dead Cells, after it was brought to light that the publication has potentially plagiarised a smaller YouTuber by the name of Boomstick Gaming. Boomstick highlighted the uncanny similarities in a comparison video, resulting in IGN taking its review down in order to conduct an internal investigation.

IGN’s review of the rogue lite platformer debuted on August 6th in written and video form, almost two weeks after Boomstick Gaming uploaded his own breakdown on YouTube to his 14,000 subscribers. Boomstick shortly followed IGN’s release with his own comparison video, drawing attention the similarities between his work and the stylings of author Filip Miucin, who acts as IGN’s Nintendo editor.

While nothing can really be said about the deduction that Dead Cells is certainly a Metroidvania-inspired title, almost everything about IGN’s review was reminiscent of Boomstick’s effort, from the structure to sentences which differed ever so slightly on its vocabulary. A perfect example of this is the closing statements transcribed by Boomstick.

  • Boomstick: “Dead Cells figures out and intriguing way to have your rogue lite and metroidvania experience all in one by focusing on your failures and urging you to try something new the next time.”
  • Filip: “Dead Cells strikes a perfect and engaging balance between the metroidvania and rogue lite experiences by focusing on your failures and urging you to experiment when you do fail.”

IGN has since taken both its video and written reviews of Dead Cells down, redirecting users to a statement addressing the issue: “As a group of writers and creators who value our own work and that of others in our field, the editorial staff of IGN takes plagiarism very seriously. In light of concerns that have been raised about our Dead Cells review, we've removed it for the time being and are investigating.”

It’s unclear what went wrong in IGN’s production of its Dead Cells video, with too many coincidences to ignore in Boomstick’s claim to plagiarism. Most comment sections are in agreement that this isn’t the standard expected from a large company such as IGN, however the publication is already taking steps to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.

KitGuru Says: While this often feels a lot like trampling on the little guy, Boomstick has seen a surge of 3,000 subscribers since he called out the alleged bad industry practices. Hopefully this negative continues to turn positive moving forward. What do you think of Boomstick’s claims?

Over the last few years, the Humble Bundle and Humble Store have grown to become very prominent in the PC space. Not only do monthly Humble Bundles give you an opportunity to support a good cause and get some cheap games, but the Humble Store has also taken off. While Humble did start off as an independent effort, that will be changing soon, as IGN has acquired the company.

The acquisition was confirmed by Jeffrey Rosen, CEO and co-founder of Humble Bundle. In a blog post, Rosen explained why it ended up in the hands of IGN: “We chose IGN because they really understand our vision, share our passion for games, and believe in our mission to promote awesome digital content while helping charity. I can’t think of a better partner than IGN to help Humble Bundle continue our quest.”

Humble Bundle started off back in 2010, kicking off the ‘pay what you want’ formula. You can pay just $1 to get a tier of games, beating the average donation will get you a few extra titles. In more recent years, a third tier has been added to the Humble Bundle, giving people the opportunity to pay $15 to get even more. This third tier usually includes a newer game release compared to the other two tiers.

While Humble Bundle is now owned by IGN, it will continue to operate independently, according to a report from Gamasutra. There will be “some degree of support” from IGN in terms of “accelerating growth”. The exact monetary value of this acquisition has not been disclosed.

KitGuru Says: There is room for conflict of interest here but then again, it’s not like that wasn’t already an issue at IGN considering all of the advertising deals it strikes with publishers. With that in mind, I don’t expect this acquisition to change much, we just may see more promotion for monthly Humble Bundles than usual. Do many of you still read IGN at all? How do you feel about the Humble Bundle acquisition?

Although you'll struggle to see it live now, a background takeover advert that appeared on IGN's website has revealed that Blizzard's upcoming, online multiplayer shooter (with a few MOBA elements) Overwatch, will have an open beta on 3rd May, with a final release on the 24th. You will have to pre-order the game to gain access to the pre-launch testing phase though.

This is all unconfirmed and could be some sort of elaborate ruse, but it seems unlikely. The most common suggestion from the Redditors who initially spotted the advert, is that IGN jumped the gun on publishing this background ad and there's no stopping eager fans with a print-screen button within reach.

Previously Blizzard has simply stated that Overwatch would be showing up at some point in “Spring 2016,” so this would sit in-line with that.

The important take home for those wanting to be part of the beta though, is that although there are still a couple of months to wait, you do need to pre-order Overwatch by the 29th April to be eligible to enter on the 3rd May.

KitGuru: Overwatch draws inspiration from a lot of popular games and genres, including elements of Team Fortress 2, several MOBAs and the pseudo-cartoony worlds that Blizzard is known for. If you've tried it out, what do you think? Does Blizzard pull it off?

If like me you're counting the hours until the Evolve beta goes live on PC later today, then chances are you need something to tide you over until this evening. What better way to pass the time then, than by watching some test footage of the game's fourth and largest monster, Behemoth.

behemoth2

It was only recently that we got our first look at the third monster, Wraith, so it's surprising that we're finding so much out about Behemoth this early in its production. However, considering Turtle Rock did tease its silhouette and ask the community for a name for the beast, it has involved fans since the beginning of the monster's life cycle.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1D6PjHM5gV0′]

At this stage, it's still early days, as lots of its abilities haven't got finalised animations and effects, but one thing is clear from the footage: Behemoth is enormous. In the above video, we learn that Behemoth is as big as the game will allow for a monster, so don't expect a Jhen Moran to show up in the future. Of course that means it comes with buckets of health and armour, but it's also very cumbersome. It can't jump and is a slow climber, but Behemoth can pick up speed by rolling along like an Uragaan (ok that's the last Monster Hunter reference).

Other abilities include the slinging of “lava bombs,” which can set fire to an area, a ground based fissure attack, a pull ability using its tongue and the coolest of them all, the ability to create a giant wall of rock. That rock-wall lasts a few seconds and can be used to separate hunters, prevent their escape, or to give Behemoth time to build up speed and get away itself.

Behemoth is set for release as DLC shortly after the game's launch on 10th February, for $15, or you can get it free if you pre-order the game.

KitGuru Says: If any of you are around later today, keep an eye out for “Whoopty” on hunt mode. I'll be taking on all comers with my harpoon gun.

Asking the question, “How Scary is Alien Isolation?” a load of the staff from IGN have been playing a quick level from Amanda Ripley's upcoming survival adventures and indeed, it seems the answer is “very.” Everyone manages to get a sweat on during their play and though some of the action is scripted and predictable after the first reaction, the random hunting of the player by the Xenomorph once it warms up, is pretty damn chilling.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EWe69vP1pA']

The level on show is the one we've seen a fair amount of already. It's the one with the lockers, the eviscerated android and the table that kicked off the Alien franchise back in the day with its round table meetings and initial chest bursting.

ign
The ‘if I can't see it, it can't see me' defence seems to be the most effective.

One new addition is getting to see the Xenomorph actually kill some players though. In one instance Amanda is running away from the alien menace, only to be forced to a standstill. When she looks down, there's a huge alien tail protruding from her rib cage. In another instance a player is pounced on and a horrifying alien hand covers their face before the camera fades to black.

KitGuru Says: It's a pretty tense looking experience all round. Definitely not something I'll be able to play with headphones on and the lights off.

All the big gaming review sites are sitting on their own review of Bioshock Infinite, since they've had the game for a few days and have been beavering away to make sure that they had their review ready for Monday, when the official NDA is lifted and everyone can say how they feel. However, IGN has apparently been given the nod to release its review early, something Kotaku is kind of mad about.

In order to lampoon the favouritism, Kotaku has put up a review of IGN's review, giving it the thumbs up that “Yes” you should read this review and that it was pleased with the graphics, but it wasn't a fan of the length, since this review actually came in under the word count of reviews of Bioshock and Bioshock 2.

Bioshock Review
Yes, you should read this review, apparently.

Describing it as a text adventure, Kotakus is obviously poking fun, but it's highlighting an issue as well. The IGN review gave Bioshock a score of 9.4/10. That's about as high as any game is going to get. This is across all platforms too, despite claiming that the Xbox and PS3 versions stuttered graphically compared to the PC. The question quite obviously being posed, is did IGN get the exclusive because it gave the game such a high score? Would 2K games have done the same if it had given it a 5/10? It seems unlikely.

Of course Infinite is expected to get pretty good scores, but if that's the case, then why not just let everyone post the reviews at the same time?

KitGuru Says: Game publishers hold all the cards in these situations. If it's sitting on a crap game, it can just not release a copy early meaning no one will know what it's like before release – prompting some to buy it without realising what they're getting in for. Whereas if it's a good game, it can make sure everyone knows it – with apparently just one review. Not sure how you'd fix this situation, but it's far from perfect.

“A Magnet School for Video Game Design”

While it may be a no-brainer to gamers that the video game industry is one of the fastest growing sectors, many parents continue to align their views with the old stereotype – games are a waste of time and always will be. Subsequently, the emergence of a new video game magnet school is meeting a lot of resistance by parents who don’t understand the complexity of video games and their development.
