Today alongside CES 2022, Corsair has launched the new and improved Corsair One i300 ITX gaming PC, packing an Intel Core i9-12900K processor and DDR5 memory with speeds starting at 4400MHz.

The new Corsair One i300 packs the latest and greatest from both Intel and Nvidia. For the processor, you can have up to a Core i9-12900K, and up to 64GB of DDR5 memory. For graphics, you can opt for an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 or RTX 3080 Ti depending on your budget.

As usual, the Corsair One comes in its patented 12-litre case design, making it similar in size to an Xbox Series X console, but with much more power under the hood. For cooling, Corsair has a liquid cooling system in place for critical components, so temperatures should remain in check throughout lengthy gaming sessions despite the system's small size.

The system also incorporates two Thunderbolt 4 ports, allowing for up to four 4K/HDR displays to be connected simultaneously. You can learn more about the Corsair One i300, including pricing and availability, HERE.

KitGuru Says: The Corsair One has been well reviewed for years now and somehow, Corsair is able to up the ante each generation with the highest-end gaming hardware available. What do you all think of the new Corsair One i300?

Intel's next generation NUC is coming soon and recent leaks have given us a good look at its planned specifications. The Intel NUC 11 Extreme Compute Element is a small, graphics card-sized PC designed for very compact cases. Despite its size, it looks like Intel won't be cutting down on anything, offering up to a Core i9-11980HK CPU and 64GB of RAM.

Just like the previous NUC 9 Extreme, the slide leaked on Chiphell shows that the NUC 11 Extreme, codenamed “Driver Bay”, will have three CPU tiers to choose from. Options include Tiger Lake-H45 Core i9, Core i7, and Core i5 processors. These processors will be paired with up to 64GB of DDR4-3200 SODIMMs in a dual-channel configuration.

The slide further details the NUC 11 Extreme specifications, which include 3x M.2 slots for PCIe 4.0/3.0 storage and support for Intel Optane Memory M10, H10 and Optane SSDs. For display connectivity, there's an HDMI 2.0b connector and 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports, supporting up to 3x 4K displays with the Intel iGPU. The mini-PC will also feature 6x USB-A 3.1 connectors, Intel 2.5G and/or 10G network interfaces, Bluetooth 5, and Wi-Fi 6.

Comparing both the NUC 9 Extreme and the NUC 11 Extreme, both units seem to be similarly sized with some aesthetic differences. The single 8-pin power connector is at the same position as its predecessor, on the top right corner. The cooling solution has been modified with a slightly bigger fan and located closer to the centre. The cover has also been changed, replacing the old Intel logo with Intel's skull.

We recently spent some time modding the Intel NUC 9 Extreme, so if you are interested in mini-PCs, be sure to check out our series on that, HERE.

KitGuru says: The NUC 11 Extreme is shaping up to be very powerful, especially for its size. Have any of you used an Intel NUC before? What do you think of the upcoming NUC 11 Extreme?

MSI has updated its range of laptops to include Intel’s latest 9th generation Core mobile i9 processors and a selection of Nvidia’s RTX 20 series and GTX 16 series graphics cards. The company promises a noticeable performance increase of up to 45% in its P series of creator laptops and up to a 50% improvement in its G series of gaming notebooks.

Core i9 processors allow the new MSI P65 and P75 laptops to make the most of their 4K display, built to enhance the experience of 3D animators, designers, and video editors. While the P65 retains the same 4K 15.6-inch IPS display seen on its 8th-gen clad predecessor, it is now joined by a 17-inch P75 Creator model.

Gamers can also rejoice as MSI overhauls its GT, GS, GE, GP, GL and GF series with new i9 processors. The latest GT Titan is tailored towards overclocking enthusiasts with its unique Cooler Boost Titan technology, with users seeing the benefits on its Ultra-HD display. Refresh rate enthusiasts would be better turning their head towards the new GS Stealth, with its 240Hz display powered by an Intel Core i9 processor and a choice of graphics from Nvidia’s GTX 1660Ti through to an RTX 2080. For tried and tested HD gaming however, fans can still turn to the new GE Raider.

Alongside the bump up to a 9th gen Intel Core i9, MSi has made tweaks to a number of its other models. The GP75 Leopard, GL63 and GL73 all sport a per-key RGB keyboard. The GF Thin is a little more self-explanatory, winning the 2019 IF Design Award for its compact and lightweight design making it the most portable gaming laptop on this list.

MSI states that its new line-up should be available from select retailers as soon as today, but as experience suggests, stock might fluctuate during its launch period.

KitGuru Says: I always appreciate how much of the market MSI covers with its gaming laptops and its range of i9 offerings is no different. Do any in particular stand out to you?

Apple launched its brand new MacBook Pro last week, sporting high-end Intel Core i9 processors and an equally premium £2,700 price tag. Unfortunately, one gadget expert is calling the company out for drastically throttling the device’s performance thanks to thermal issues.

YouTuber Dave Lee got his hands on the latest 15-inch MacBook Pro, touting base clock speeds of 2.9GHz. While Geekbench results show the laptop to excel in multi-core processing, Lee’s own run-of-the-mill tests show the device falling well below its default clock, limiting itself to just 2.2GHz when using Adobe’s Premiere Pro video editing software.

This is less to do with Intel’s efforts with its high-end chip and more to do with Apple’s inability to sufficiently cool the processor, diminishing the performance considerably. Even more “absurd” according to Lee is that Apple has unlocked the chip, marketing it as overclockable for enthusiasts. “All of that CPU potential is wasted inside this chassis,” all thanks to its thermal solutions.

“If you have any kind of extended computational work that uses the CPU, and that's probably why you're looking at these devices in the first place, it's going to throttle. And that's unacceptable to me,” Lee noted on his YouTube channel, Dave 2D. It is worth noting, however, that Lee only presented tests with the one application, which may not be representative of the device’s overall performance.

Portable PC systems often sacrifice some processing performance in order to preserve the silicon and therefore the longevity of the device, however these results take reduced performance to a new level, particularly for such an expensive device. While we’ve yet to see more people come forward about the problem, it’s certainly worth keeping a note given just how much of an investment the 2018 MacBook Pro i9 configuration is.

KitGuru Says: It’s not all doom and gloom, considering Geekbench tests are singing the praises of the new MacBook Pro. Hopefully we will see more tests conducted in the coming weeks to clarify how regular this occurrence is.

Is the future so bright we need sunglasses?

On the final day of Computex 2017 Luke Hill and Leo waldock put their heads together to discuss the highlights and low points of Computex 2017.

The biggest talking point of the week was Intel X299 and Core X-Series which introduces the Core i9 name using Skylake-X technology with up to 18 cores and 36 threads. Balanced against that we have the quad core Kaby Lake-X models which also uses the same X299 platform. How, exactly can motherboard manufacturers deliver hardware that will satisfy every point along that massive spectrum?

KitGuru says: In the video we discuss whether Intel is about to deliver a stroke of genius, although we reckon we smell the panic as Intel races to react to AMD Threadripper with its paltry 16 threads and 32 cores.
