Intel have announced a new range of ultra low voltage i3, i5 and i7 processors – something we mentioned last week on KitGuru.

The announcement was made on Engadget and it seems as if the new dual core processors will be hitting retail in June and will sit alongside the current Celeron and Pentium ULV's targeting a higher sector. These new 32nm Nehalem processors offer 32 percent greater performance than previous ULVs which is sure to give a major kick in the ass to this slow paced market.

Not only that but they are delivering 20% less power drain which should also help aid battery life which is doubly important as many machines in the ultra portable bracket use small cell units. The power drain is reckoned to be around 17w which is helping increase the thermal performance by 50 percent over the last generation.

So far Asus, Acer, Lenovo and MSI have signed on for machines featuring the CPU's with the possibility that a slate computer is on the cards for release. Interestingly CNET are reporting that Intel are targeting the iPAD market with their own tablet design using a CULV 32nm chip. The source is high too, Intel's Vice President Mooly Eden said that the company is “serious about trying to participate in the tablet market”. We would expect to see something at Computex 2010 next month but you can read more over here.

KitGuru says: It was only a matter of time before someone wanted a piece of the Apple iPad pie.
