A 40,000mAh power charger is really handy when traveling, no doubt.

Luxa2 is the Thermaltake brand that deals with high-end, luxury lifestyle products and its latest venture is a super charger that goes by the name P4-MEGA.

MEGA by name and MEGA by nature, this device is around 10cm square.

The design is elegant and there are 6 (yep, SIX!) USB charging ports – enough to suite most families on the run.

Luxa2 P4 MEGA is gorgeous to look at, but is it too big?
Luxa2 P4 MEGA is gorgeous to look at, but is it too big?

.
While the branding and design will appeal to many discerning users, and we're sure that even the most hard core of computer users would enjoy to own one of these, there's no getting away from the size.

It looks gorgeous in regular light and even more appealing when the lights dim.

Stunningly good looking. And the P-MEGA is nice too.
Stunningly good looking. And the P-MEGA is nice too. 40,000mHa? Tingle Tingle.

.
KitGuru says: At 1Kg and 10cm square, we're not sure which market it will sell into. If Luxa2 can find people with the need, then the visual appeal will take over.

If you come from a Blackberry point of view, the idea of a smartphone with a sealed battery seems very silly, but manufacturers like Nokia and Apple work on the basis that your phone should be as slim/light as possible and locked in wherever it can be. Which might look nice, but means ‘no charger, no charge'. KitGuru investigates the latest release by Luxa2.

Once upon a time, Thermaltake was a chassis and cooler company only.

At some point, the CEO Kenny Lin realised that he had a problem on his hands: If you make a really good cooler, case etc, then people don't need to buy anything else from you for several years. And so Tt eSports was born – driven along by every gamers need to have a mouse, keyboard etc that's just slightly better than their competitor – and these products wear out – creating an opportunity for customers to buy once a year or even more frequently.

So with manufacturing running smoothly for tradition and gaming markets, this production giant now turned its attention to the much more complicated world of consumer electronics.

Today sees the launch of the P3 from Luxa2.

Weighing in at just 70 grams (2 ounces), this 2,500 mAh power bank can store enough juice to effectively double the charge life span of an iPhone 5. In fact, under perfect circumstances, it can offer just OVER a second charge – but none of live in a perfect world, so let's be a little pessimistic.

Available in black or silver, the Luxa2 P3 power bank looks almost exactly the same as the iPhone 5 itself and comes with a range of charging connectors so, technically, it could also work its magic on Windows phones etc.

It looks nice, but what about the price?
It looks nice, but what about the price?

.
KitGuru says: If you had one of these in your car, office, bag when your iPhone 5 died – then you'd probably be giving praise. But, as with all things in life, price and availability will determine success.

The design team at Thermaltake have at least 2 definite methodologies. One focuses on creating iconic masterpieces like the Level 10 chassis and the ‘M' mouse. The other line of thinking is based around making plastic look aggressive and not cost too much. The A41 Chaser is in the second of these.

KitGuru ponders if anyone in the UK would have gone with A41 Chaser.

The A41 is, to those living in the UK, a neat stretch of road that links Marble Arch in central London with Birkenhead. For much of the journey, it turns into something like a motorway and is great fun in a fast car.

The drive down the A41 should never be mixed with a chaser. For those who are not of drinking age yet, we can tell you that a solid shot of whiskey – followed by gulps of beer – create the ‘Chaser‘ experience. It can affect memory.

But the bold chaps at Thermaltake have decided to challenge the idea that an A41 Chaser has anything to do with whiskey or traffic jams.

Instead, they have a brand new range of gamer-focused cases. In their own words, “Chaser A41 has continued the e-sports appearance and outstanding protection designs inspired by Tron that characterize originality. From the side look, the transparent windowed panel offers the best inner view for built system see through. Since gaming hardware produces a lot of heat, therefore this enclosure is built for maximum cool with a perforated front bezel with two 120 mm fans at front and rear plus a top exhausted 200mm fan with blue LED”.

Tron indeed. There you have it.

But what about cable management etc?

“Chaser series makes practicality more convincible. The series is geared with up two USB 3.0 Super Speed ports which are located on top panel for faster data transfer and easy access. Besides, Chaser A41 comes with an user friendly tray on top for any portable devices like mobile, mp3player, digital camera that users have lying around. The Advanced Cable Management is designed for easy cable routing and hiding cables behind motherboard tray, to ensure smoothness for build and tinker (upgrade), reduce wiring tangled, as well as better airflow and dust management”.

We're always up for anything that makes life more convincible.

So when will the “Ultimate and impeccable hit” be with us?  Looks like it will be hands-on for CeBIT in March. As the chaps at Thermaltake say, “Chaser A41 enables user to build up a complete high-end solution with 240mm radiator liquid cooling system and extra long graphic card with ease which help to protect user’s hardware and increase CPU’s overclocking potential, most importantly delivers outstanding performance and efficiency from within the case”.

The options are black & white. With Tron-style blue trim. Also, here's a fully laden version they prepared earlier.

KitGuru says: This market is beyond competitive. Recent conversations with companies like Gelid have revealed $10-20 price cuts on chassis, just to try and catch a little more market share. The Tron theme looks cool enough, but we'd (generally) rather see a slightly higher price and some aluminium.

When Thermaltake launched the Elements series a few years back, reaction was mixed. Knowing that the world economy was in a bad place, the company tried to be creative at the low end of the market, with mixed results. Ironically, with so little money in the market, it was the launch of the Level 10 at almost £500 that proved the most influential new product – and Thermaltake offered more chassis at a higher price. With the Versa series, it's revisiting the low end. KitGuru dusts off the microscope for a close look.

UPDATE: Thermaltake has contacted KitGuru to confirm that the street price will be $59 (approx £39) for this chassis.

There's affordable and there's cheap. We've all been in situations where we just want ‘cheap', but – for the most part – we're actually looking for value. For something that we can afford – but which still has lots of cool stuff.

The Versa G1 and G2 models from Thermaltake come with this kind of specification list:-

  • Ample room for high-end hardware – including a GTX690
  • Cleanable air filters
  • Perforated front bezel to increase airflow, while controlling dust
  • Black finished steel
  • Advanced cable management
  • USB 3 connectivity
  • Blue LED fan for that ‘pre-modded look'
  • Transparent side window – so you can sit back, enjoy the blue glow and admire your system-building handiwork

Before we continue with our analysis, you might be wondering why the ‘G1' and ‘G2' naming.

Simple enough, it refers to the alternative front panel designs available.

For a change, Thermaltake has actually made a 5-page PDF available for each of these chassis, which you can down load yourself from these KitGuru links:-

We're presently waiting on UK/USA/EU pricing and will update this story as that information becomes available.

Neat looking, but a session in the KitGuru Labs is needed to let you know if it meets our standards for noise suppression, heat dissipation and overall 'joy to build'. Roll on the testing!

KitGuru says: The product looks nice enough and has plenty of features, but it is a very competitive market with the Silverstone Precision and Cooler Master Elite chassis, so we'll wait until we see the street price before passing any kind of judgement on value.

Taiwanese chassis manufacturer, Thermaltake, has today announced the launch of its new mainstream gaming chassis, the Armor Revo Gene. We're not sure why it has 3 names, but we do have detailed specifications and photos which we're happy to share with you. Will this new chassis tempt you to re-build your main rig?

We've brought up Marmite a lot in recent times. It was originally a left over product from brewing which, quite by accident, they discovered was not only tasty – but also nutritious. It's peculiar flavour lies somewhere between meat and something else – with a lot of salt. It divides the KitGuru team perfectly down the middle, with half of us loving its thick, brown goodness – while the other half will happily punch you in the face to prevent you coming near them with a little yellow-labelled jar.

This is exactly the reaction people have to new Thermaltake designs . You either love em or you hate em. It's that simple.

So, today, we have the latest Marmite-moment with the Armor Revo Gene – first seen in public at Computex.

From a technical point of view, it has all of the USB 3 connectivity you could need, the ability to take three 31cm graphics cards and help you plug it all together with CableClear management.

Style-wise, the thing that sticks out are the two metal wings at the front – an echo to the design of the original, full-tower Armor chassis from around 7 years ago.

Gadgets-wise, it has a top-mounted hot-swap HDD docking station built in and a place to hang your headphones on the side.

Back on the design side, its feet are a little higher than regular chassis – which is supposed to increase air flow and prevent it sucking in dust.

Overall, it's a tool-free design and liquid cooling ready. Dimensions are 51cm x 25.2cm x 55cm and this mid-tower weighs in at 7.8Kg.

It will be in UK stores around the end of October and pricing will be less than £99 in a choice of dead black or snow white. Enough words, what does it look like?  Well, it comes in black or white and looks like this.

.
KitGuru says: The proof of a chassis is in the building, but the baseline specification looks right and Thermaltake's decision to include the metal wings at the front is an interesting hark back to some of the more classic designs in the industry. So how does your Marmite moment end?

Looking back over the past 5 years, few designs have stood out as much as the BMW Designworks Level 10 chassis created for Thermaltake. Although it was not followed up with a range of similarly creative designs, it's still a desirable product that shows that individuality is possible in a homogenised world. Now Tt eSports wants to put a little individuality in your hand.

Sonja Schiefer, Director Design at BMW Group Designworks, is very excited by the company's latest co-production with Thermaltake CEO and creator of Tt eSports, Kenny Lin.

The new mouse is just that. New. And KitGuru readers have a chance to win a personalised one – but uploading a cool video onto Thermaltake's Facebook page.

Your video will need to be original material, less than 90MB/60 seconds and be funny/innovative about a Tt eSports product. Simples.

Entries should be uploaded by 30th April and the winner will be the one with the most ‘Likes'. Your video will be showcased on Thermaltake's various sites so you will need to agree that it can be used royalty-free… Still, it's pretty good exposure for a budding film director/games enthusiast.

This is exactly the kind of product that Thermaltake designers were promising when they moved into their Google-style offices last year. Fingers crossed more zaniness will follow!

It already looks like nothing else - and that's BEFORE you've had your name embellished on the shell

KitGuru says:  We have a ton of ideas but (a) we're not allowed to enter and (b) we don't want to be jailed for offending  viewers. Still, that doesn't mean you shouldn't enter!

This Easter's gaming extravaganza at Newbury Racecourse has seen some notable ‘firsts'. Some software. Some hardware. KitGuru spies were on hand to see real world gaming on a special keyboard.

Multiplay's i42 will attract more than 2,000 gaming enthusiasts over the toasty Bank Holiday weekend. Pro-gamers, exhibitors and sponsors were all out in force.

Thermaltake's money man, Jerry Lee, treats his Pro-Gamers to all of life's luxuries

In the main building, which spans 3 floors, the lucky gamers who bought early tickets and reserved space on lower floors, were considering themselves very lucky indeed.

Given that the temperature outside only dipped to 25 degrees by 6pm – in the middle of the day it was sauna-esque on the top floors.

Aside from the physics of the known universe, another reason why the ground floor was kept so chilled was all the cool stuff on show.

On the Thermaltake booth, there was a first public outing for the Tt eSports non-ghosting mechanical keyboard, which they claim as a world's first.

Tt eSports Community Manager Andrew, was on hand to demo the non-ghosting, mechanical USB keyboard

Sure, there are non-ghosting membrane keyboards and you can put a nobby PS/2 convertor on other mechanicals to achieve simultaneous key depressions – but this unit is a pure USB device and it was attracting a lot of attention from the pro-gamers at the event. The PS/2 connector has now been officially retired by Tt eSports.

World's first non-ghosting mechanical keyboard from Tt eSports on show at i42

KitGuru says: We'll get one of these into the Lab as soon as possible and hit it with hammers, elbows and bananas to see just how many keys it does recognise as being pressed at once.
