Kingdom Come Deliverance is the first and currently only game from Czech video game developer Warhorse Studios. First released back in 2018, the game holds a special place in many people’s hearts due to its in-depth and hardcore RPG mechanics – leading to a unique experience when compared to other similar titles in the genre. Celebrating its 6th anniversary, Warhorse Studios revealed that the game has sold over 6 million copies.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the official Warhorse Studios page said “Happy #KCD Anniversary everyone! We are proud to share that Kingdom Come: Deliverance has surpassed the 6 million copies mark. We wouldn't be here if it weren't for you… so a big THANK YOU!”

It’s interesting to see the game hitting the 6 million mark on its 6th anniversary – a curious yet amusing coincidence.

With the game still set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch at some point this year, it will be interesting to see how much longer we will have to wait for an official announcement of a sequel.

Kingdom Come Deliverance is the first and currently only game from Czech video game developer Warhorse Studios. Despite the studio’s relative infancy, they seemed to hit it out of the park with their very first title– officially announcing that Kingdom Come Deliverance has sold over 5 million copies.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Warhorse Studios account said “Today we celebrate the milestone of more than 5 million copies of #KingdomComeDeliverance sold across all platforms. Thank you for your loyalty!”

As part of this announcement, Warhorse Studios also revealed that fans can win a diorama figurine of the game’s protagonist, Henry, by “telling your favorite KCD story on our Facebook, Steam or in a Tweet [HERE].”

Kingdom Come Deliverance first launched on the 13th of February 2018 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One to somewhat mixed reviews. Though the RPG’s focus on realism in many aspects was praised, its launch state was less-than-stellar, with a plethora of bugs plaguing the game. Fortunately over time these bugs were quashed, and continued support from the developers in the form of multiple story DLCs helped to flesh out Kingdom Come Deliverance in rather major ways.

It is no surprise to see the game perform so well across the board, and with a Nintendo Switch port promised to be on its way (courtesy of porting specialists Saber Interactive), Kingdom come Deliverance still has a long life ahead of it.

Each month, Sony updates its PlayStation Now game subscription service with a number of new titles. For the month of November, 6 games are set to join the service, including Rage 2 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

The full list of games joining the service from tomorrow, the 3rd of November are:

  • Rage 2
  • Injustice 2
  • F1 2020
  • My Time at Portia
  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance (available until May 3, 2021)
  • Warhammer: Vermintide 2

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is an action RPG which separates itself from many others due to its realism, both mechanically and in its story. Set in 1403 during a war in Bohemia, you play as Henry, the son of a blacksmith. As you are “thrust into a raging civil war, you watch helplessly as invaders storm your village and slaughter your friends and family. Narrowly escaping the brutal attack, you grab your sword to fight back. Avenge the death of your parents and help repel the invading forces!”

Rage 2 is the sequel to the first-person shooter developed by id Software. Released 8 years later, Rage 2 (now primarily developed by Avalanche Studios with assistance from id Software) sees you play as “Walker, the last Ranger of the wasteland and a threat to [the tyrannical Authority who seek to rule with an iron fist], you have been robbed of your home and left for dead. Now you’ll have to rage for justice and freedom”. Though not as well received as the 2011 original, Rage 2 features satisfying combat and interesting guns.

these titles, and more, will be joining PS Now on Tuesday the 3rd of November, and will remain there indefinitely – except for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which will be leaving in 6 months.

Epic Games is giving the users of its store a treat today as, for this week’s free game, those who own an Epic account will be able to purchase not one, but two free games. Aztez is a beat ‘em up, turn-based strategy hybrid, while Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a story-driven open world RPG which quickly became one the most talked about PC games of 2018.

Aztez is a “unique hybrid of beat 'em up and turn-based strategy, set in the world of the Aztec Empire”. Featuring “Highly technical, real-time, beat-em-up combat events resolve ongoing conflicts in your expanding empire”. With a unique artstyle, a black, white and red colour palette, and a mixture of 2D and hex-based gameplay, Aztez truly provides a distinct experience.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a story-driven open world RPG which “immerses you in an epic adventure in the Holy Roman Empire”. The game has you “avenge your parents' death as you battle invading forces, go on game-changing quests, and make influential choices”. The first project to come from Czech-based Warhorse Studios, Kingdom Come: Deliverance received instant fanfare due to its sense of realism, historical accuracy and non-linear story. The game topped the Steam charts on its release day, and went on to sell over 2 million copies. If you have yet to try Kingdom Come: Deliverance, now would be the perfect time.

Aztez and Kingdom Come: Deliverance are available to purchase on the Epic Games Store for free, from now until the 20th of February at 4pm. Once purchased, the titles will remain indefinitely in your Epic library.

The Humble Bundle is still going strong and it looks like next month's Monthly deal is going to be excellent value. The Humble Monthly Bundle for August is now live with the first two early unlock games now available, including Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Surviving Mars.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is an RPG that was mostly slept on by a lot of sites last year. It is a huge game and a few of us here at KitGuru really enjoyed it. In my opinion, it was one of the best games to come out last year, so getting it for a tenner is a steal.

Surviving Mars on the other hand is another great management sim where players colonise Mars. There is a ton of replay value here and with some of the folks from Tropico working on it, you know you are in good hands.

The remaining games for the Humble Monthly Bundle for August will be revealed on the 2nd of August. Those looking to get the two games already available will need to subscribe to Humble Monthly within the next seven days.

KitGuru Says: I've been a long-time subscriber of the Humble Monthly Bundle and you always tend to get something interesting each month. In the instances where spare keys pop up, a few of us usually share those keys on the KitGuru Discord Channel, so if you aren't part of that, then be sure to join up.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is perhaps the most surprising game of the year so far. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the game launched this year with incredibly deep mechanics and a great story to boot. Now over the course of the year, we'll be getting several expansions.

Last week, the team behind the game unveiled its DLC roadmap, promising three new story DLCs this year, with an extra one coming in 2019. There will also be a few free updates adding some new features to the game, including a hardcore mode, a tournament mode, and mod support.

From the Ashes will be the first story DLC and will see Henry in control of an abandoned village with the goal of building it back up. We'll get our first look at this during E3 in June.

The Amorous Adventures of Bold Sir Hans Capon and the Band of Bastards DLCs will also add new story content this year, though not much is known about these expansions just yet. The story will presumably be wrapped up next year, with the launch of a fourth expansion called ‘A Woman's Lot'. If you backed the game on Kickstarter, then you'll end up getting this expansion for free.

KitGuru Says: Kingdom Come: Deliverance is one of my favourite games of the year so far. With that in mind, I'm very much looking forward to seeing extra content land over the next 9 months or so. Have many of you been playing Kingdom Come? Will you be jumping back in for these expansions later on?

Kingdom Come: Deliverance released two weeks ago after a long time in the making, already achieving wonderful success with over a million copies sold. Despite this, executive producer Martin Klíma has stated that the development team would have benefited from more time to polish the game for its final release.

Klíma opened up on the official developer forum, Warhorse Studios Weekly Torch, answering fan questions in a Q&A. One of the more interesting questions shed light on how Klíma felt about publications touting the title as a triple-A game, meaning a big budget and often found backed by a major publisher.

“I don’t see KCD as competing with the likes of Assassin’s Creed or Shadow of War. We simply don’t have resources to create a game like that. I don’t view us as an indie game either, though,” explains Klíma. “

The reason for this is that he deems ‘real’ triple-A games as “more and more forgiving,” almost as if they “are playing themselves.” Conversely, indie games attempt to break that barrier and bring forth originality, but are limited by their smaller budgets.

Image Credit: Warhorse Studios Weekly Torch Forums

Kingdom Come: Deliverance “is an attempt of bridging the two: it is an indie game at heart – more hardcore, more demanding, more fierce – but with the visuals and production values of AAA game,” states Klíma. “I freely admit though that I wish we had more time to polish the game before the release, that’s what AAA game deserves.”

Klíma closes out the Q&A by thanking the “mature, reasonable and supportive community” for being so understanding of the issues that persist with the game as the developers traverse these early stages, even joking that “damn Bitcoin miners prevent us to get a good GPU or even pair of GPUs to test” 4K resolution and 60 frames per second.

Players and readers can still ask questions here, as the team is notable for holding these Q&As regularly. Please note that there is no guarantee that your question will be answered.

KitGuru Says: Even with the issues, it’s nice to see another crowdfunded game make its way out into the world, despite it being 4 years later. The developers at Warhorse Studios seem committed to the game and the sales show that there is a clear demand for it. Were you one of the first million to buy the game? Do you think it needs more polish?

If Game of Thrones has drifted too far from its non-magical, medieval roots for your tastes, then Kingdom Come: Deliverance may offer a nice antidote to that. Unfortunately you're going to have to wait for its release though, as now the open world RPG isn't set to arrive until sometime in 2017.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is another Kickstarter success story that hasn't quite managed to stay on schedule. Initially slated for a 2015 release, it's been pushed back once before to mid-2016 and now it seems developer Warhorse needs even more time on it.

deliverance22

It may not necessarily be because the game isn't ready though. As WCCFTech reports, part of its publishing deal involves releasing the game simultaneously on consoles and PC. The fact that the PC version is further along in development than its console ports, could be why the game is being pushed back again.

However the game is progressing. This isn't one of those CLANG developments. Warhorse released a beta for the game to backers earlier this year, letting them play through a couple of hours of main-story quests, battle a few rogues and play around with the game's notoriety system, which can see you branded a thief and scoundrel if you so much as draw your blade in a village setting.

It's also very pretty, but since it's using the latest CryEngine to power it, that's not too surprising.

KitGuru Says: This is a shame, but better late than never. It's hardly a surprise at this point that a Kickstarter title has been delayed again. That's practically par for the course at this point.

Of all the games currently in development, there are a few which visually blow the rest out of the park. Star Citizen is one, but another more firmly rooted to the ground, is Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Those who like to get an early look at such games will finally be able to see if the gameplay backs up the aesthetics soon too, as it's getting a beta release in Q1 2016.

warhosrse

Although originally set for a beta launch towards the end of this year, developer Warhorse pushed things back to give it a little more time to polish things up and instil all of the major features. When released, the beta will include all of the core gameplay mechanics, like first person combat, a few quests from the main story, a small-scale battle (as per PCG) and around 20 per cent of the final game map.

This was all explained in the latest developer diary from the company, which also introduced a new crime system to the game.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4Eq2na6neI']

It is expected that following the beta Warhorse will have all of the game's core systems in place and from there it will continue to refine them and further develop the story, which has a couple thousand pages of screenplay to work with already. That means there's a lot of voice over to record too. It's a big job, but the game is coming along well it seems.

As pretty as recently released games like The Witcher III: Wild Hunt are, they don't really hold a candle to future high-end projects like Star Citizen. One other beautiful game that's got a release set far in the future is Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which is set to offer a highly detailed medieval world to explore and battle in. At least that's what the characters appear to be doing in the new E3 teaser trailer anyway.

“Tis but a flesh wound!”

As pretty as the new teaser footage is though, it's the realism in the animations and the combat which has gotten a lot of fans excited. Consider that the cloth of one knight's tabard rips where he is struck and that both combatants have the ability to not only strike with the bladed edge of their weapon, but can use half swording and pommel attacks too.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3olR82Ajpjo']

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is still in a very early alpha state, but backers of the game can gain access to an early tech demo to see what the final experience will be like. Much like Star Citizen, Kingdom Come's developer, Warhorse, is using an ongoing crowd funding model, so while it has raised just over $2.35 million so far, it's hoping that will continue to rise throughout the game's development.

However it has stopped adding stretch goals to guarantee that it reaches all previous promised targets first.

KitGuru Says: You can guarantee that a lot of companies watched the fall out from the Witcher III ‘downgrade' so Warhose will likely be making sure that all footage is indicative of the final game.
