At CES today, Nvidia is officially launching three new graphics cards – the RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super and RTX 4070 Super. We can now put to rest a long running stream of rumours and leaks with official details on specs and pricing. New hardware isn't the only thing Nvidia has on the way though, as the company is also launching new software features too.

We'll start off on the software front. At Computex last year, Nvidia officially announced ACE, its new set of tools to create realistic digital avatars. Leveraging AI tools, developers can use ACE features like Audio2Face and Riva to automatically detect speech and create facial expressions. The goal here is to allow game makers to create life-like NPCs, with high-fidelity and natural animations. Tools like Convai can also allow NPCs to converse amongst themselves and interact with objects, which could help create more realistic worlds.

A number of developers are already using ACE, including Inworld, NetEase, Tencent, Ubisoft and miHoYo. Nvidia ACE is now widely available for use, so we should see more game developers exploring the technology this year.

Moving on to hardware, Nvidia is officially launching the RTX 40 Super series graphics cards. The RTX 4080 Super is said to be 1.4X faster than the RTX 3080 Ti without DLSS Frame Generation. Activating DLSS 3 Frame Gen can boost it up to being 2X more powerful than the RTX 3080 Ti. The RTX 4070 Ti Super is described as the “ideal GPU” for running games at maximum settings at 1440p and 4K. The RTX 4070 Super gets the biggest upgrade here over its original counterpart, with 20% more cores, making it faster than an RTX 3090 while using up less power.

You can see the specs in the table below:

GPU CUDA Cores Memory Base/Boost speeds TGP
RTX 4080 Super 10240 16GB GDDR6X 2295MHz / 2550MHz 320W
RTX 4080 9728 16GB GDDR6X 2205MHz / 2505MHz 320W
RTX 4070 Ti Super 8448 16GB GDDR6X 2340MHz / 2610MHz 285W
RTX 4070 Ti 7680 12GB GDDR6X 2310MHz / 2610MHz 285W
RTX 4070 Super 7168 12GB GDDR6X 1980MHz / 2475MHz 220W
RTX 4070 5888 12GB GDDR6X 1920MHz / 2475MHz 200W

The biggest surprise here is the new pricing. While the RTX 4080 originally launched at $1199, the RTX 4080 Super is launching at $999 instead. The RTX 4070 Ti Super and RTX 4070 Super will match the MSRPs of the previous models, coming in at $799 and $599 respectively. The vanilla RTX 4070 meanwhile sees an official price cut to $549, though do note the original 4070 Ti and 4080 will be discontinued in favour of the new Super models.

For those in the UK, Nvidia has confirmed the 4070 Super MSRP at £579, the 4070 Ti Super is £769 and the 4080 Super is £959.

The RTX 4070 Super will be available starting on the 17th of January. The RTX 4070 Ti Super will hit the market on the 24th of January and the RTX 4080 Super will be available starting on the 31st of January.

KitGuru Says: Are you thinking of upgrading your graphics card this year? Will you be going for an RTX 40 Super GPU?

Rumors have surfaced that Microsoft is preparing to launch Windows 12 in June 2024. This news has generated excitement in the Taiwanese PC industry, with major players such as Acer, Quanta, MSI, and Gigabyte expressing optimism about the potential financial benefits of the new generation of AI-powered PCs.

While the Commercial Times article (via Tom's Hardware) mentions the rumoured release date, no official statements from industry executives are included. It is believed that the source of the information may have been recent comments made by Acer Chairman and CEO Jason Chen and Quanta Chairman Barry Lam.

On Thursday, both senior executives attended the Taiwan Medical Technology Exhibition in Taipei. According to reports, Chen is cautiously hopeful about AI PCs helping accelerate the business via a virtuous cycle, where new AI PCs generate new AI app development, which needs more powerful AI PCs, which will help to create even better AI apps. Barry Lam from Quanta was more upbeat, emphasising the company's planned growth in three segments: AI PC, AI server, and AI automotive electronics. According to Lam, when Microsoft launches a new generation of Windows operating systems next summer, AI PCs will come one after another.

The first time we heard about a new Windows version was earlier this year when we saw that Intel Meteor Lake-S would support an unreleased Windows OS. Soon after, reports about Microsft developing new ARM processors for Windows 12 came to light.

KitGuru Says: Microsoft gave up on the idea of having one major OS with constant updates when it moved on from Windows 10. Now, it looks like we're heading back to the days of having a major revision every few years. Will you be getting Windows 12 when it comes out, or are you still happy with Windows 10 or Windows 11?

Over 10 million people have played Starfield. This milestone was achieved within two weeks of the game's release (three weeks if early access is included), making Starfield the largest launch in Bethesda history and one of the biggest launches of 2023 so far.

This is just the most recent achievement for Starfield. In the first two hours of early access on Steam, the game had over 230,000 concurrent players, and on release day (September 6th), it became Xbox's most-played next-gen game ever, with 1 million concurrent players. On September 7th, it was revealed that the game had over 6 million players.

Microsoft has not disclosed how many people are playing the game via Game Pass or Steam, but as of September 20th, the top concurrent player count on Steam surpassed 330,000 players, according to both SteamCharts and SteamDB. Unfortunately, it's not as easy to know how many people have played the game for Xbox Series X|S or opted to play via Game Pass.

Starfield is undoubtedly one of the most important games of 2023, and it is unquestionably the most high-profile Xbox Series X|S release since the systems' release in November 2020. The open-world RPG is Bethesda's first new IP in almost 25 years, the first Bethesda-developed game set in space, and the studio's first title since Microsoft's acquisition.

KitGuru says: The success of Starfield demonstrates Bethesda's ability to build immersive and interesting environments, as well as the rising popularity of sci-fi RPGs. With 10 million players and growing, the title might be on its way to becoming one of this generation's defining titles.

If the price tag alone wasn't enough to put you off of the Apple Vision Pro headset, the process of buying one might do the trick. According to reports this week, Apple is planning to have customers book in-store appointments to buy the headset.

Mark Gurman, formerly of 9to5Mac and now writing for Bloomberg, has reported that Apple will be adding new sections to its biggest Apple Stores, where staff can hold appointments with those interested in buying the Vision Pro headset. During this process, staff will check your head measurements and ensure the headset fits properly. There will also be the option to have prescription lenses inserted.

The process is a little similar to the booking system Apple held when the first Apple Watch launched. Due to the decision to offer prescription lens inserts, Apple will need to keep a lot of them in stock, which may limit the number of Apple Store locations this can be offered in.

Right now, it is unclear exactly when the Vision Pro headset will launch and it was also recently claimed that Apple has been facing supply chain struggles, limiting the number of headsets it can make for 2024. When the Vision Pro does launch, it will cost $3,499.

It looks like TSMC will soon become the source of all major gaming GPUs. AMD and Nvidia already utilise TSMC's fabs and according to a recent report, Intel will soon do the same.

According to Taiwan's Commercial Times (via Tom's Hardware), the Battlemage GPUs from Intel will be manufactured by TSMC in 2024. Previous reports suggest that the Xe2-based GPUs will be manufactured on the 4nm process node, like the RTX 40 series GPUs.

However, according to the report, those aren't the only Intel GPUs set to be manufactured at TSMC. Like Battlemage, the third-generation Celestial GPUs will apparently also be produced by TSMC. These are slated to launch in the second half of 2026 and are supposedly based on the Xe3 architecture. As per this report, the GPUs will use TSMC's N3X (3 nm) production node.

With the upcoming series, Intel is expected to be able to deliver higher-end products capable of rivalling higher-end graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD.

For Apple, 2023 will reportedly be quite low-key in terms of new product launches, but at least we might finally get an official announcement for the long-rumoured Apple AR/VR headset. According to Bloomberg, Apple's mixed reality headset will be revealed this spring, with the launch coming a few months later.

The report from Bloomberg paints 2023 as a somewhat slow year for Apple. Besides the usual updates to existing lineups, Apple will reportedly launch just a single new product, the long-awaited AR/VR headset. After many delays, it seems Apple is finally announcing it this spring, before WWDC 2023 in June, with availability expected in the autumn.

Based on early reports, Apple has already sent samples of this device to partners, allowing them to test them and develop third-party apps for the product. The device, which is believed to be named Reality Pro, will be based on an operating system internally called “Borealis”, but it will be publicly known as xrOS.

With Apple focusing on its AR/VR headset, staff have been reportedly moved from other product lines to help with the headset development, slowing down the release cycle of other Apple products. Still, the report mentions that we should get revisions to some of its lineups, including new MacBook Pros powered by M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, a high-end Mac Pro using the M2 Ultra, and possibly a 15-inch MacBook Air.

The iPad series is expected to remain untouched, with a slight chance that we'll see a spec upgrade on the iPad mini, iPad Air and entry-level iPad. The Apple Watch is also rumoured to see a performance bump, but nothing major. As for the bigger HomePod, it looks like it's still on track to come out this year. Lastly, the iPhone series will likely get the “15” update later this year.

After a successful beta, Infinity Ward has been working on further improving the now available multiplayer mode for Call of Duty Modern Warfare II. The developer has considered the community's feedback, leading to changes in various game systems, including UI, matchmaking, sound, and gameplay.

The patch brings many improvements over September's multiplayer beta. The highlights should be the tweaks to footsteps, the new aiming system for third-person multiplayer modes, and enhanced enemy visibility. Other changes include balance tweaks, UI and matchmaking updates, and less exploitable movement.

The full changelog can be found below:

Enemy Visibility

  • We have added diamond icons above the heads of enemies. This should make it easier for players to clearly identify opponents in the game.
  • Additionally, we've continued to tweak lighting and contrast for improved enemy visibility.

Audio

  • We've shortened the overall range of footstep audio which will allow enemy players to get closer to targets before they are able to detect footsteps. We have also continued to tweak teammate footstep audio, which will now be quieter following feedback from the Beta.
  • The in-world activation sound effect volume range for the Dead Silence field upgrade has been drastically decreased.

Third Person

  • Following feedback from Beta, aiming down sights will now stay in third person POV for low-zoom optics. Only high-zoom optics (beginning with the ACOG and higher) and special optics such as Hybrids and Thermals will revert to first person POV. We believe this will enhance the third person experience while keeping the gameplay balanced. The feedback on this mode has been very positive, and we will continue to explore its use as a modifier.

Weapons

  • We have continued to tweak weapons across the game following both feedback from Beta players and game data. Players can expect more specifics on weapon tuning as we continue to support post-launch.

UI

  • We have been working hard on numerous updates to our UI that make accessing and customizing your loadout more seamless. We've made improvements to navigation of menus and will continue to optimize our UX.

Movement

  • Slide, ledge hang, and dive have been further refined. We've also addressed some movement exploits following Beta.

Matchmaking

  • We have implemented some changes that aim to reduce lobby disbandment between matches. We look forward to testing this at a large scale and getting feedback.

For those who own the game on the PC but didn't download the patch yet, it might be worth knowing that it's 55GB in size. So, if your Internet is not crazy fast, you'll want to start downloading that update.

DirectStogage 1.0 was released some months ago, introducing the ability to speed up loading times by accessing assets quicker. However, other interesting features are coming with more recent versions, namely the 1.1 feature update. Microsoft stated that this version will be accessible to developers by the end of 2022, so it won't take much longer before we see games benefit from it.

Using DirectStorage 1.0, assets still have to go through the CPU to be decompressed, but that's changing with version 1.1. The new version will introduce GPU decompression, removing the CPU from the operation cycle and increasing asset loading speeds. It's also important to mention that GPUs are technically better prepared to handle parallel operations, making them more suitable for this type of operation.

Avocados are dancing. GPU with GDeflate (left) loading in 0.8 seconds vs CPU with Zlib (right) loading in 2.36 seconds

Microsoft shared a screenshot comparing CPU to GPU decompression, where you can see the gains moving from 1.0 to 1.1. In the first image, we see the GPU decompression is much faster in loading the scene, reducing the total loading asset time to a third (0.8s) of the time CPU decompression needs (2.36s). Moreover, CPU usage is dramatically reduced during the loading time due to the CPU being out of the equation. Also, note that the bandwidth is almost triple, hence why the time to load was reduced to a third.

DirectStorage 1.1 will work with graphics cards supporting Shader Model 6.0, but Microsoft recommends using a DX12 Ultimate capable card for the best experience. DirectStorage games will work on Windows 10 and 11, but the latter has additional optimizations in the IO stack.

In recent weeks, we've seen reports that Nvidia is planning to launch the RTX 3080 Ti in April. Unfortunately, things may have already changed, as new sources claim that Nvidia internally delayed the release again.

According to ITHome (via VideoCardz), Nvidia has issued an internal announcement stating that the RTX 3080 Ti 12G has been delayed again. While recently the launch was said to be planned for April, Nvidia's apparent delay has pushed the launch into May. This may mean that the RTX 3080 Ti and the RTX 3070 Ti launch at the same time rather then separately.

This is the fifth reported delay of the RTX 3080 Ti. Rumours first began back in December with a 20GB RTX 3080 Ti graphics card, then the spec changed to 16GB of VRAM and the launch was reportedly pushed to January. Not long after that, the launch was moved again and the rumoured specification also changed once again, dropping from 16GB of VRAM to 12GB.

At this point, all we can say for sure is that the RTX 3080 Ti is expected to launch within Q2 with 12GB of VRAM and 10,240 CUDA cores. According to a recent report, Nvidia might also be planning to release the RTX 3070 Ti in May.

KitGuru says: If Nvidia releases the RTX 3080 Ti and the RTX 3070 Ti in the same month, we'll likely see an announcement event for both SKUs. After all the delays, do you think the RTX 3080 Ti will actually land in May?

After a very successful stint in closed beta and some brief server downtime over the last few days, Riot’s new shooter, Valorant, has officially launched. Starting now, anyone can register a Riot account, download the game and begin playing.

Valorant is available in ‘most regions' and features a robust back-end for matchmaking. For starters, the game has dedicated 128-tick servers and all player movement is ‘upscaled' to 128 frames per second. The goal with this is to make matches all about player skill, without having to worry about netcode or server tick-rates causing problems.

As part of the Valorant launch, those who played the beta will have their progress reset, creating a level playing field for newcomers. Launch day also brings new content, including a new map, a new game mode and a new agent to try out.

You can download Valorant from the game's official website. It is a free to play title, but there are microtransactions in the form of premium currency, which can be used to obtain skins.

KitGuru Says: I played a little bit of Valorant in beta, but I ended up drifting back to CS:GO. I will be giving it another go now that it has launched though. Are many of you planning on downloading Valorant? Did any of you already play it in closed beta?

Originally, the Google Pixel 4a was slated to be launching this month. The launch was later pushed to June, and now some sources say that the smartphone will be delayed even further, until July.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the tech industry has seen a wave of events and launches that have been cancelled, rescheduled or changed in one way or another, and it seems the Google Pixel 4a is no exception. According to Front Page Tech host Jon Prosser, consumers will have to wait until July 13 before getting their hands on the new smartphone from Google.

Some were hoping that launch of Google Pixel 4a would coincide with the launch of Andriod 11 Beta – though this is now unlikely if the launch of the phone is pushed to July. Jon Prosser also “kills” the 5G rumours by saying that the phone will only use 4G connectivity.

According to a tweet from Stephen Hall, managing editor at 9to5Mac, the phone is expected to be sold with a price tag of $349.

PC Engine CoreGrafx Mini was originally expected to launch worldwide on March 19. However, due to production delays, the launch had to be indefinitely delayed everywhere except for Japan. Now Konami says that the console will be shipping to North American customers starting May 22, with availability in other regions expected to follow soon.

The original PC Engine COREGrafx was released in Japan on October 30, 1987 and in the UK in 1990. After more than 30 years since its initial release, Konami is releasing the PC Engine COREGrafx Mini console that emulates the original console's 16-bit hardware.

The new PC Engine COREGrafx Mini takes up half the size of the original console and is shipped with 57 games. The console is sold exclusively through Amazon with separate releases – and even different names – for different regions.

Konami's official twitter account posted the follow message, explaining the situation:

Exciting news! Those who had purchased the TurboGrafx-16 mini via http://Amazon.com can start expecting theirs to arrive starting from May 22! We're still keeping a close eye on the situation for the Core Grafx mini, so hang in there Europe! (E) #Turbografx

According to the tweet, consumers in North America can look forward to the release of the console on May 22. The good news is that the tweet also indicates that the European release is around the corner.

This week has been chock-full of next-generation console news. Not only have we seen detailed hardware spec reveals for the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, but today Microsoft has also seemingly announced the launch date for its new console.

So far, Microsoft has maintained that Project Scarlett, now known as Xbox Series X, will be launching in ‘Holiday 2020'. In an update to the Xbox website today, that launch window was updated to say ‘Thanksgiving 2020'.

Assuming Microsoft doesn't retract this announcement, which seemingly went online before it should have, the Xbox Series X should be available to buy starting on November 26th, although pre-orders will likely go live at an earlier date.

The timing here is particularly interesting as this news comes just a couple of hours after Sony's PS5 spec presentation. While the PS5 will have a much faster SSD, the CPU and GPU do seem to be weaker than the offerings found in the Xbox Series X, which may give Microsoft some extra momentum as the marketing wheels continue to turn.

KitGuru Says: Assuming there are no delays, I would also expect to see a November launch for the PS5, as Sony and Microsoft will want a bit of a running start leading up to Christmas. Are any of you planning on getting one of the new consoles when they arrive later in the year?

Back at CES, AMD officially introduced the RX 5600 XT, describing it as “the ultimate 1080p gaming card”. Launch day is now upon us and reviews are out, so we've gathered up details on UK availability, pricing, performance and specs.

The reference spec for the RX 5600 XT includes 36 Compute Units, 6GB of 12Gbps GDDR6 memory and a 1375MHz/1560MHz base/boost core clock speed. As we learned late last week, AMD began rolling out a new vBIOS to board partners ahead of launch, allowing memory speeds to be pushed up to 14Gbps and clock speeds to reach as high as 1750MHz out of the box. Not every board partner GPU will be launching with these improvements set at the factory though, so there will be some slight variances in speeds between different models.

During the reveal event, AMD gave several examples of the RX 5600 XT beating out Nvidia's GTX 1660Ti in various games. We've published a launch day review for the Sapphire RX 5600 XT PULSE, which backs up those claims, with the RX 5600 XT holding a decent gain over the RTX 2060 and the GTX 1660Ti.

Over in the US, the RX 5600 XT is launching with an MSRP of $279. Now that we've arrived at launch day, we know that UK pricing varies between £250 and £300. At Overclockers UK, the cheapest option right now is the Sapphire RX 5600 XT Pulse, coming in at £254.99 with AMD's newly released vBIOS improvements intact, bringing boost speeds up to 1750MHz and increasing memory speeds.

Next is the PowerColor RX 5600 XT Dual Fan at £259.99, which sticks to AMD's reference 12Gbps memory speed and 1620MHz boost clock. At £299.99, you will find the RX 5600 XT Red Devil, with a beefier cooling solution, 1750MHz boost clock speed and 14Gbps memory out of the box.

More custom-cooled RX 5600 XTs will be made available in the weeks to come, including versions from the likes of ASUS, MSI and Gigabyte.

Google Stadia’s journey from announcement to release has been a controversial one. From the announcement that preorders were unlikely to arrive on launch day, to the meagre 12 titles that were listed for launch, among other various odd restrictions, the new ‘console’ by Google has faced many setbacks. With Stadia finally out to the public, the data has begun being collated, and according to one industry insider, Stadia’s performance in the market is being considered “a monumental flop”.

Jason Schreier, News editor at Kotaku and industry insider, revealed this fact, saying: “Google Stadia is out today, and it already looks like a monumental flop. (I heard from one person involved that preorders were below expectations.) Question is, will they eventually stop trying to sell games and switch to an all-you-can-eat subscription model? Or just let it die?”.

The news that preorders were below expectations is interesting, especially in the wake of the shortages in stock that Google claimed to have regarding Stadia. While Stadia Base doesn’t release until next year, it seems that Google had set higher expectations for Stadia Pro’s launch performance. The reason for its “monumental” failure could be in part due to all of the previously mentioned controversies.

Furthermore, Google is known for shutting down projects that fail to meet expectations, unwilling to wait to see its long term performance. This sentiment is acknowledged by Schreier, who claims that in order to survive, Google Stadia must switch to a subscription-based model.

With the news of Stadia’s failure, Google certainly needs to do something to entice potential customers to pay £119 for Stadia’s Premiere Edition. The company has already expanded its launch line-up from 12 to 22 titles, and has given two free games to Pro subscribers, instead of the previously announced singular title.

It appears that wasn’t enough to change people’s views however, if Schreier’s comments are anything to go by. It’ll be interesting to see what moves Google makes between now and the release of Stadia Base in 2020, in order to earn back the trust of consumers.

Ahead of its soft launch on the 19th of November, Google has announced the list of games that those who have purchased the Founder's or Premiere editions will be able to play on Stadia’s launch day. Stadia will have “12 carefully-chosen games on day one, and an additional 14 will be available by the end of the year”. You only get one launch day, and it seems like Google Stadia’s won’t necessarily be the most inspiring.

The 12 games available at launch will be: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Destiny 2, GYLT, Just Dance 2020, Kine, Mortal Kombat 11, Red Dead Redemption 2, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Samurai Shodown, Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Thumper, and Tomb Raider: Definitive edition.

The launch line up contains some particularly interesting entries. Games such as Mortal Kombat 11 and Samurai Shodown rely heavily on low latency due to the nature of fighting games. Google previously announced that Stadia would use a technology that could lead to “Negative latency”, so perhaps the inclusion of these games are a testament to Google's faith in its service and technology.

Google also announced the 14 additional games that would be available to purchase by the end of 2019: Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle, Borderlands 3, Darksiders Genesis, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Farming Simulator 19, Final Fantasy 15, Football Manager 2020, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Grid, Metro Exodus, NBA 2K20, Rage 2, Trials Rising and Wolfenstein: Youngblood.

While the list Google selected is certainly varied, many of these games are either old or finite experiences, meaning that many are likely to have already played these games. Only one of the games is platform exclusive (GYLT). Hopefully when Stadia Base releases in 2020, the service will have a much-improved list of titles, but until then, these 26 games will make up Google Stadia.

Today NVIDIA is officially launching the GTX 1660 SUPER and the GTX 1650 SUPER, putting the speculation, leaks and rumours to rest. Nvidia first began rolling out SUPER series graphics cards earlier this year, starting with the RTX 2060, 2070 and 2080. Now, the GTX 16 series is getting the SUPER treatment.

The GTX 1660 SUPER comes equipped with GDDR6 memory, leaving the old GDDR5 standard behind. This upgrade also brings along the benefit of faster 14 Gbps memory speeds (up from 8 Gbps) and 336GB/s of memory bandwidth. This also results in a slight bump to power draw, going from 120W to 125W.

The GTX 1650 SUPER is getting more of a substantial upgrade over its predecessor, going from 896 CUDA cores and 56 TMUs to 1280 CUDA cores and 80 TMUs. Video memory also gets an upgrade, moving from 4GB of GDDR5 to 4GB of GDDR6 running at 12Gbps with 192GB/s of memory bandwidth.

You can see a breakdown of the specs for the GTX 1660 SUPER and GTX 1650 SUPER below compared against the GTX 1660Ti and the original GTX 1660/ GTX 1650:

The GTX 1660 SUPER will be available starting this week with prices starting at £209/$229. The GTX 1650 SUPER will be arriving later, with a release date currently pencilled in for the 22nd of November, although pricing still needs to be confirmed.

A new graphics card launch also means a new driver update and this one happens to be quite exciting. Nvidia's new GeForce driver is adding several new features, including an Ultra Low Latency mode, a new sharpening tool for the Nvidia control panel and as previously rumoured, Nvidia is adding driver-level support for ReShade filters using the GeForce Freestyle and GeForce Ansel tools.

With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launching today, you might have noticed that one of its core new features is missing – namely, night maps. Infinity Ward have removed all the night time maps from rotation temporarily for the sake of cohesion and will be adding them back, in a separate playlist, at a later date.

The marketing campaign for the newest Call of Duty has placed a heavy emphasis on its new night time technology, and the game modes that have been created from it. Even the game’s collectors edition is called the “Dark Edition” and features real working night vision goggles.

It's therefore surprising that right before the release of the game, Infinity Ward announced that they would be removing all the night maps from rotation in the game. The developer explained on Twitter that “We'll add them back in as a separate playlist at a later time”, although no specific time frame was given.

While Infinity Ward provided no explanation as to why they made this decision, Gamespot speculated that this is due to the fundamental differences in the way the night maps play out. You are unable to aim down sights on night maps, players have to rely on a laser attachment to aim, and the sheer fact that your vision is impaired by the goggles due to the green filter that's applied over everything, means that for many players, night maps may be less desirable.

The decision to remove the night maps from general rotation, and placing them in a separate playlist, is a smart and accommodative move on Infinity Ward’s part. It’s just a shame that one of the newest and biggest changes brought to the franchise isn’t available on launch day. Call of Duty: Modern warfare released today to positive reviews from both critics and players.

KitGuru says: Have you picked up Modern Warfare? Do you wish the night maps had been included at launch? Is the decision to put the maps in a separate playlist a smart move, or could it potentially lead to longer waiting times for night mode matches? Let us know down below.

Only a few weeks ago, AMD officially announced that Ryzen Threadripper 3000 will be released in November. At the time, no solid date for the release was provided. However, confidential documents have now been leaked, which apparently suggest that Threadripper 3000 will be initially launched on 5th November.

Yesterday we reported on potential names of the new AMD Ryzen Threadripper CPUs after various leaks were posted online. The guys over at VideoCardz now claim to have been handed confidential documents that confirm the official release date to be 5th November, although that still isn’t guaranteed. “We cannot guarantee that the dates presented here are still valid, but we can confirm that they were just a few weeks ago” was written on the VideoCardz site.

According to the leaked confidential documents, AMD is planning to release three Threadripper 3000 SKUs. Two of them will be launched on 5th November, but an embargo on sales and reviews will be in place until 19th November, that's if the dates seen in the document turn out to be correct.

Initially, it is thought that AMD will release the 3960X, which is believed to be a 24-core SKU and the 3970X on 5th November, on the same day Ryzen Threadripper 3990X will be unveiled too. According to Videocardz the Threadripper 3990X is planned for release in January 2020, with only the core count and name of the CPU being revealed by AMD on 5th November as a “teaser”.

Additionally, 5th November is suggested to be the date AMD will unveil the TRX40 chipset, with motherboard manufacturers being given the “green light” to showcase their new TRX40 products on that date too, ready for a 19th November launch.

“The documents we have currently do not list 3980X SKU and there is no mention of TRX80 motherboards. We are also not discussing core counts and clock speeds”, read a statement on VideoCardz. “as this information is not available in the documents that we have as well”. So we will just have to wait and see if those previous rumours regarding an AMD Threadripper 3980X and TRX80 chipset turn out to be true.

KitGuru says: So, it looks like the rumours from yesterday about the naming of Threadripper 3000 were correct. Now we can look forward to AMD launching the new Threadripper 3960X and 3070X CPUs on 5th November, if this current round of leaks turn out to be true.

A couple of weeks ago, Vodafone announced plans to become the first UK carrier to offer 5G, with the service set to go live in July. Today, EE usurped those plans by announcing that it will be kicking off its own 5G roll out in May, more than a month in advance.

Of course, the initial launch will be limited, with EE focusing on six cities- London, Manchester, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast and Birmingham. EE plans to expand 5G coverage across the UK every month, with ten more cities set to gain access before the end of the year. People living in Bristol, Coventry, Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield, Liverpool, Hull, Leeds, Newcastle and Glasgow will get 5G coverage in 2019.

Aberdeen, Bournemouth, Brighton, Cambridge, Dundee, Exeter, Ipswich, Norwich, Plymouth and York are on the list to get 5G coverage in 2020.

EE's 5G network will go live on the 30th of May, while Vodafone will begin offering its own 5G service from the 3rd of July.

KitGuru Says: Of course, having access to a 5G network is just half the battle, you will also need a device that supports a 5G connection. Right now in the UK, there are just four smartphones that support it. By the end of 2020 though, there should be much higher network availability, in addition to increased support from smartphone makers.

Last month during CES, AMD announced that it would be launching the Radeon VII, a new high-end graphics card based on 7nm Vega. There have already been whispers of low launch stock, but it looks like we now have some credible numbers for those of us in the UK.

KitGuru got in touch with Andrew Gibson of OCUK this morning to confirm a few things ahead of Radeon VII's launch tomorrow. At this point in time, it looks like there will be between 100 and 200 Radeon VII's available at UK retailers on launch day. A good chunk of those will be available from Overclockers UK, with a mix of options from Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Sapphire and Powercolor.

As we build up to any big launch, goal posts can shift fairly quickly. Yesterday it was reported that around 100 Radeon VII cards would be available in the UK at launch, with around 44 of them being available via OCUK. That has changed today, with launch numbers growing slightly and OCUK gaining almost twice as much stock for launch. Still, if you are looking to buy a Radeon VII on day one, you will want to be fairly quick about it.

Chinese New Year kicked off this week, so once the initial launch batch is gone, follow-up shipments might take a little longer to arrive. However, orders have already been placed, with Overclockers UK expected much bigger shipments to come in from AMD's various board partners after launch.

KitGuru Says: We already have our Radeon VII sample in, so expect a review on that to drop very soon. Are any of you planning to pick up a Radeon VII at launch once reviews have gone live?

While we've been hearing whispers about Intel's 28-core Xeon processor since 2017, the W-3175X was only announced in October last year. The initial December launch date was missed but today, Intel announced that the chip is ready for prime time.

The Intel Xeon W-3175X comes unlocked, with a base speed of 3.1GHz and a single core boost speed of up to 4.3GHz. Motherboard makers like Asus are building insanely high-end boards to take full advantage of this, with the ROG Dominus being a prime example. With this being an unlocked processor, it will be interesting to see overclocking capabilities explored, especially once the ROG Dominus becomes available, or even Gigabyte's upcoming motherboard.

The Xeon W-3175X boasts the most cores (28), threads (56) and PCIe lanes (68) of any Intel desktop processor. As you might imagine, a chip of this magnitude is mainly geared towards massive tasks, like editing films, or 3D rendering. The price tag reflects that too, with this chip hitting the market at $3,000.

Other features include 6-channel DDR4 memory support, ECC support and standard RAS support. You can take advantage of Intel's AVX-512 ratio offset and trim voltage control tools for memory overclocking. Finally, each Xeon W-3175X also comes with an Asetek 690LX-PN AIO liquid cooler to ensure you have adequate cooling out of the box for stock speeds and overclocking.

As a rough performance indicator, Intel has noted that this processor can run the infiltrator demo in Unreal Engine 4 up to 1.52 times faster than the Core i9-9980XE.

KitGuru Says: We've been looking forward to seeing this launch for quite some time. Now that the Xeon is out, we'll be looking forward to also seeing extreme motherboards, like the ROG Dominus- which we got a preview of at CES.

We're coming up to the launch of Fallout 76, and beta testing has officially kicked off. Last night, Bethesda's experimental Fallout title was playable to those on Xbox One, albeit in a short four-hour window. More opportunities to play will pop up over the week, with times shifting around to accommodate for different time zones.

The first beta test was particularly unfriendly to those of us in Europe. In the UK, the first Xbox beta test went live from midnight until 4am, in the middle of the week. Hopefully more beta play times will be announced over the coming days, as we get closer to the beta rollout on other platforms.

While the Xbox One beta has kicked off, PC and PS4 players will have to wait a bit longer. We are expecting the beta to go live on the PC and PS4 on the 30th of October, which is next Tuesday. We don't know if the servers will be left live once the full rollout happens, but it does seem that Bethesda wants to limit progression and playtime by having the beta operate in small shifts.

The Fallout 76 beta does contain access to the full game and Bethesda is already aware of several bugs that players might encounter. The game will officially launch on the 14th of November.

KitGuru Says: I'm still not sure on Fallout 76 as a concept, but I'd like to give the beta a go if the servers are switched on at a reasonable time for those of us in the UK. Did any of you try the first beta phase last night? What did you think of the game?

A whole host of flagship smartphones are launching this month, with Google’s Pixel 3 line-up arriving on the 9th and Huawei shortly following on the 16th. Price to performance king OnePlus has announced that it will also be joining the fray, unveiling its OnePlus 6T on the 30th.

Aesthetically, the OnePlus 6T is expected to follow in the footsteps of Oppo’s F9 and R17 handsets, sporting a teardrop notch for its single front-facing camera. Leaks suggest that this will be capable of utilising OnePlus’ facial recognition technology, dubbed Face Unlock, while the fingerprint sensor has been relocated to beneath the screen for its Screen Unlock feature.

The smaller notch also allows for a bigger 91.6 percent screen-to-body ratio across what is believed to be a 6.4-inch 2340×1080 AMOLED screen, powered by a Snapdragon 845 and Adreno 630. Controversially, the OnePlus 6T will be the first of the company’s devices to forgo a 3.5mm headphone jack, much to the disapproval of fans.

Users should be able to “Unlock the Speed” on October 30th at 11am Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), where the Chinese company will unveil the device in New York City.

KitGuru Says: OnePlus has been the leader of price to performance for quite some time, but it remains to be seen whether the OnePlus 6T can maintain a competitive price point. Is there anything you would like to see revealed about the OnePlus 6T? How much would you be willing to pay for up-to-date flagship features?

Nvidia RTX is just around the corner, although those after the flagship RTX 2080Ti will have to wait a little bit longer to get hold of one. Initially, both the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080Ti were set to be available from the 20th of September onwards but over the weekend, Nvidia issued an update on the status of the RTX 2080Ti, pushing it back a little.

In an update on the GeForce forum, Nvidia announced that general availability for the RTX 2080Ti has shifted to the 27th of September. If you pre-ordered a Founder's Edition, then you should still get your card between the 20th and the 27th. However, if you missed out on the initial wave, then you'll need to hang on for a bit longer.

There is no change to RTX 2080 Founder's Edition  general availability, so those cards will continue to be purchasable starting from the 20th of September. If you want to get a sneak peek at both GPUs ahead of time, then you can check out our unboxing.

KitGuru Says: I'm very excited to see reviews for the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080Ti when they finally land. Have any of you already pre-ordered one? Or are you waiting to see benchmarks first?

It is officially launch day for the Honor 10 smartphone here in London. The ‘AI powered' smartphone will be available in Europe starting today, complete with some funky design changes, some decent specs and a fairly low price tag.

The Honor 10 seems to take a lot of its design cues from the Huawei P20, which impressed us recently. The phone comes with a ‘Phantom Colour' glass back, which changes colour depending on light. Under the hood, it is powered by the Kirin 970 SoC, which makes the Honor 10's AI Camera features possible. On the front, you'll find a 5.8-inch ‘FullView' LCD display running at a 2280×1080 resolution. Finally, it also has a home button, with a fingerprint sensor embedded under the glass.

The big marketing focus for the Honor 10 is the camera set up. There is a 24MP and a 16MP sensor on the back, with another 24MP camera on the front. Honor's AI 2.0 tech is used to enable better portrait photos and enhanced face detection.

There will be two versions of the Honor 10 available, one with 64GB of storage for £349 and a 128GB model for £399. Both models come with a 3,400mAh battery and support for Quick Charge via USB C.

KitGuru Says: From what we've seen so far, the Honor 10 seems to be a cheaper version of the Huawei P20, with a couple of differing features. We'll be going hands-on for a review soon, so keep an eye out!

Back in September, we reported that XMA was preparing to launch Viglen PCs in to the UK retail channel. Systems were on show at the EGX gaming event at the NEC and were well received by gamers. Now a full range of systems has appeared on eBuyer. How much impact can this established brand have on the gaming market?

While the full range does include Intel-based systems, it is the AMD line-up that seems particularly wide-ranging, with Ryzen 5 1400 units from £779 through to a Ryzen 7 rig at just over £3,200. You can see the specs here.

When Lord Alan Sugar (of ‘The Apprentice' fame) sold Viglen Technology to XMA almost 4 years ago, it was projected that the newly formed £200 million turnover company would ultimately grow to £300m and beyond. A significant part of that plan involves bringing in gaming channel experts like Craig Connell, who has previously driven sales for ATI, Nvidia and AMD.

We have visited the Viglen team at XMA's headquarters and the systems they are developing certainly look the part, with ROG branding prevalent.

KitGuru says: While the spend-per-person on gaming machines may have increase in 2017, the number of actual units shipped doesn't seem to have increased. Looks like the market for gaming PCs will become even more competitive in 2018 if traditional brands like Viglen, backed by Westcoast Distribution, start to focus more on performance systems. We will bring one of these Ryzen systems into the KitGuru Lab shortly and render an independent opinion as to whether or not the Viglen power/quality/value formula is correct.
