Instaburst, a small team of not-for-profit developers, has announced that it's producing a League of Legends inspired fighting game, known as League of Fighters. It's designed to pit characters from the MOBA title against one another in a 2D beat 'em up – and there's a new trailer out to debut the mechanics.

Each champion will have their abilities from the main game, translated into this side to side format, with a single summoner spell chosen at the beginning, adding some variety to the mix. There will also be a support system, known as “call to gank,” where you can call in other champions to assist you temporarily.

Made using the FM2k engine, League of Fighters is a fan project that the developers have no interest in monetising – presumably to help continue development, as if money was involved, no doubt Riot would shut it down pronto. Of course it may do so anyway, feeling that this infringes on its IP, but fingers crossed Riot takes the high road and just sees this as another way of promoting the original game.

Kitguru Says: It's not like this game is comparable in style or content to League of Legends. No one is going to play this instead of that, so Riot shouldn't have anything to worry about. If anything, it should promote this in the way that it has its fan-art construction and baking competitions in the past.
