In partnership with Universal, Nintendo has been building its own suite of theme park attractions and locations, with the past few years seeing the opening of Super Nintendo World in Japan and Hollywood. As part of the company’s plans for expansion, Nintendo looks set to introduce dedicated Zelda, Pokemon and Luigi’s Mansion attractions.

As reported by the theme park-focused ‘Orlando Park Stop’, Nintendo is planning to introduce a whole bunch of popular IPs and franchises into their future parks. Currently, the two open Super Nintendo World locations are focused primarily on Mario and Yoshi.

That said, in the wake of the news that Nintendo is prepping a Donkey Kong Country area in its Japanese park, ‘Orlando Park Stop’ revealed that many more iconic franchises and familiar faces are set to appear over the coming years.

According to the report, Universal Studios Florida will see its current Simpsons land replaced by Pokemon. Lost Continent in Islands of Adventure will be replaced by The Legend of Zelda and last but not least, Luigi’s Mansion is rumoured to be in development for Universal’s Epic Universe in Orlando.

Additional details on how the actual rides will function can be found HERE, but regardless it is interesting to see Nintendo rather rapidly taking over Universal’s many theme parks across the world. Hopefully a European Super Nintendo World opens up sooner rather than later.

With the Nintendo Switch well in its twilight years, many fans were wondering what kind of announcements were in store for the most recent Nintendo Direct. Interestingly, the Direct focused quite heavily on Mario and co. – with a remaster of the 3DS Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon being revealed.

Releasing some time in 2024, Nintendo announced that “a visually enhanced version of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, originally released on Nintendo 3DS, is currently in development and coming to #NintendoSwitch.”

Few details have been shared so far, but based on the footage, the game looks to be much more than a simple remaster. Of course, it is hard to tell how high quality the assets and models for the original Dark Moon are due to it being on the 3DS (which has a screen resolution of 400×240p).

Still, this seems to be closer to a Metroid Prime situation than a mere upscale. Hopefully we get to see more from the game (including which studio is developing it) sooner rather than later.

Luigi’s Mansion 3, the action-adventure Switch exclusive, released on the 31st of October to great critical and commercial success. Months later, Nintendo has finally announced the game’s first paid DLC pack. Named ‘ScareScraper and ScreamPark DLC Pack’, it focuses on the multiplayer aspect of the game, adding new minigames, outfits, and additional content to existing co-op modes. This is only the first part of the Multiplayer Pack, with a part 2 also being confirmed by Nintendo.

The first part of the DLC pack will arrive by the 30th of April 2020, and will bring with it • Three new minigames for multiplayer ScreamPark mode • Six new Themed Ghosts • Three new outfits for Luigi • Three new floor themes in co-op ScareScraper mode.

Part 2 meanwhile will arrive by the 31st of July 2020, and will be bringing with it “additional content and features for both ScreamPark and ScareScraper modes”. These DLC packs cannot be purchased separately, however, the two combined will set you back a modest £8.99. Those who purchase the DLC will receive immediate access to an exclusive flashlight that “makes a Polterpup shape on walls”.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 released on the 31st of October, and quickly became the fastest selling Nintendo game of the year – although that achievement has since been taken by Pokémon Sword and Shield. The game also became the highest rated title in the series according to Metacritic, and took home the award for Best Family Game at the 2019 Game Awards.

While no single player DLC has been announced for Luigi’s Mansion 3 by Nintendo, new content for a much beloved title is always appreciated, even if it is just for multiplayer.

It looks like Luigi might finally be stepping out from under the shadow of his older brother. Luigi’s Mansion 3 has become Nintendo’s fastest selling game of the year in the UK physical charts, outperforming The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, and even Super Mario Maker 2.

The action-adventure ‘horror’ game released on Halloween, Thursday the 31st of October. This gave the game an extra day in sales, as opposed to other Nintendo titles, which generally release on Fridays. This feat is still impressive however, especially as 2019 saw major releases from both Mario and Zelda.

This could easily put Luigi’s Mansion 3 in the top 10 best selling Nintendo Switch games, given enough time. If the title manages to maintain its momentum, it could potentially outsell The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Super Mario Maker 2, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, which have sold 3.13 million, 3.93 million, and 4.59 million respectively.

Furthermore the previous Luigi’s Mansion game sold 5.5 million copies on the 3DS when it released back in 2013. According to Gamesindustry.biz, the Switch game’s launch sales have been 140% higher than that of the 3DS’ entry, without including digital sales. Considering digital sales have become much more prevalent since 2013, the game has most likely outperformed its predecessor by an even greater margin.

Factoring all these details into the equation, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Luigi’s Mansion 3 become one of Nintendo’s best selling switch games of all time. It is unlikely to remain the fastest selling game of the year for long however. Pokémon Sword and Shield will be releasing on the 15th of November, and will almost certainly take the crown from Luigi’s head. Still, it is mighty impressive to see Mario’s little brother pull in such big numbers.

The year of Luigi is officially coming to an end on the 18th of March, giving the green plumber a 397 day long sprint in the spotlight. Luigi starred in a few games this year, including Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Super Luigi U and Mario and Luigi Dream Team.

Miyamoto announced this on Miiverse, saying:
“Almost a year has passed since I announced the Year of Luigi, marking the 30th anniversary of Luigi's debut. Thanks to everyone's kind support, we were able to release many Luigi games over the course of the year. I hope everyone continues to cheer for the green brother! However, all good things must come to an end, and the Year of Luigi will conclude on March 18.”

Since Luigi's year is ending, the Miiverse community and developer's room forums will be closed. The year and 32 day long celebration of Mario's green brother was meant to commemorate the character's 30th anniversary and it definitely brought us some good games, if you own a 3DS then Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is worth a playthrough.

Screen Writer Evan Daugherty, has partnered up with YouTube channel Polaris and Maker Studios to bring out quite a special re-imagining of one of the most famous franchises in video games history, and trust me, it's good.

Titled ‘The Four Players,' each video features a short, under 5 minute clip introducing one of four characters in a dark but real world setting. The first two were released yesterday: The Fixer and The Addict. A few hours ago the final two were released: The Soldier and The Star, but if you think you can guess what we're talking about from the titles- you're wrong.

While it's probably intended that you start off with ‘The Fixer' and then move on to ‘The Addict', I started off with the latter and as a result, I had a ‘holy crap' moment once I realised what the film was going for:

I'll let you guys use the annotations at the end to navigate through the next three videos.

I'm going to assume you've all watched the videos now and figured out that this is all a spin on Super Mario. Pretty cool right? I knew you guys would like it.

Kitguru Says: The family friendly platformer just did a complete 180. Princess Peach gets tortured, Toad's a suicide bombers, Luigi is a drug addict and Mario- well he's still a plumber. What did you guys think? Where were these guys when that awful Super Mario movie was made?

I do, I do! My wife will too, for sure. Granted it doesn't come down to much more than painting them red or green and sticking a M or L over the speaker port, but this is something Nintendo should have been doing for a long time.

Announced yesterday as part of the Nintendo Direct conference, the Wiimotes aren't far away either, with Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata suggesting that they would be made available as soon as 1st November and would be priced around $39.99. Considering this would make these round £5 cheaper than the average Wiimote in the UK at the moment, something tells me we'll be looking at more expensive ones in the UK. Perhaps closer to £30 ($48).

wiimote
It's a mee, a money maker!

While Nintendo is hardly selling a lot of Wii U consoles right now, themed Wiimotes would be a great revenue earner for the company that's main focus has been family and party play. By creating more Mario themed Wiimotes (I call Wario), Nintendo could rely on many families and gaming groups buying them up, or at least a skin or some kind to replicate it, even if they aren't buying that many games.

Nintendo certainly needs to do something to turn around its ailing console business. While the 3DS might be selling like hot cakes – because people love hot cake I suppose? – the Wii U has languished as the least popular console for some time, after selling decent numbers soon after the hardware was released in November 2012.

KitGuru Says: What do you guys think? Would you spend another £30 or so to get some extra fancy Wiimotes?
