There have been rumors that Apple will be rolling out the next refresh of their out of date Mac Pro over the coming months. The latest report comes from Mac Daily News who said they received a tip on the upcoming release.

Apple never confirm any rumours however the refresh is long overdue. The current range of Mac Pro desktop computers are running with USB 2.0 only ports, Firewire 800 and last generation SATA 3GBps connectors. They also have yet to adopt the Thunderbolt connectors which features on the latest MacBook laptop computers.

To make matters worse the Mac Pro has not been available in Europe now for some time due to Regulatory requirements. You can read more on this over here. “[Mac Pros] are not compliant with Amendment 1 of regulation IEC 60950-1, Second Edition which becomes effective on this date.”

No other details have been released regarding the Mac Pro desktop computer refresh. The unnamed source said the release should be this month, but that it could slip to next month, or even June.

We are sure that the new Mac Pros will adopt the latest Intel Xeon architecture and motherboard technology which will obviously include USB 3.0 ports, SATA 6Gbps connectors and Thunderbolt connectors.

Kitguru says: A long overdue refresh, but we aren't so sure that this rumor has any weight behind it.

Apple released a rather disappointing update to their Mac Pro range yesterday, but Tim Cook, CEO said that they are planning on releasing a ‘really great' update for 2013. At least this dispels fears that Apple may can the high end desktop computer, due to flagging sales.

Many publications had hoped and expected that Apple would perform a major upgrade to their Macintosh Pro range yesterday, but sadly everyone was left hanging. The specifications have hardly changed at all, apart from a core clock increase on the processor options. There is no Thunderbolt, still no USB 3.0 ports (?), no SATA III or even memory speed improvements.

When compared against high end PC machines available for less money, the Apple Mac Pro is two years behind. Macintosh fans have been pressuring Apple for a new Mac Pro for a long time now, and even started a Facebook page, pressuring the company for a new machine. The ‘We Want A New MacPro‘ Facebook page has 18,265 followers already.

MacRumors posted an email apparently sent from Tim Cook, CEO to a customer called Franz.

It read:

Franz,

Thanks for your email. Our Pro customers like you are really important to us. Although we didn't have a chance to talk about a new Mac Pro at today's event, don't worry as we're working on something really great for later next year. We also updated the current model today.

We've been continuing to update Final Cut Pro X with revolutionary pro features like industry leading multi-cam support and we just updated Aperture with incredible new image adjustment features.

We also announced a MacBook Pro with a Retina Display that is a great solution for many pros.

Tim

Kitguru says: The lack of high end machine with such basic modern technologies seems unusual, but clearly Apple are diverting their considerable resources to other sectors of their business.
