The Rayman series has had an interesting life. While at one point seen as a relic of a bygone era, the mascot platforming franchise has had a resurgence as of late, with many fans both old and new hoping to see a new entry in this long-dormant franchise. While Ubisoft have yet to officially announce a new Rayman, the creative director for the Mario + Rabbids series has expressed a great deal of interest in wanting to bring the series back.

In an interview conducted by NintendoEverything, the creative director for both Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Sparks of Hope – Davide Solliani – was asked whether he would be interested in working on a brand new Rayman game, to which the developer responded:

“If I had the opportunity, I would be crazy to not take that chance. To be honest, yes. I mean, Rayman is the type of game that has no realistic element. And because there is no realism, everything that you create in the game comes from your fantasy and the fantasy of the team. And so, [everything] from a chair to a table to an enemy to the environment is a form of art, is creating something from scratch. So to me as a developer, it’s the pinnacle of all the possibilities.”

Soliani continued, “You can go crazy and create your own stuff, as we did in Sparks of Hope. I think I would be crazy to not take that opportunity if given the chance.”

As mentioned, the Rayman series has not seen a new entry in quite a long time, with the most recent original release being 2013’s Rayman Legends.

The latter Rayman entries in particular were lauded for their unique approach to 2D platforming, with the games focusing on maintaining momentum and flow. As 2D platformers have once again returned to the limelight, it would make sense for Ubisoft to bring back Rayman in some capacity. Hopefully Soliani gets his wish.

Ubisoft had a surprise hit on its hands with the original Mario + Rabbids and is looking to follow that up this holiday season with a sequel – Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. Following on from the game's launch last month, Ubisoft has now detailed what's coming next in the season pass.

Unfortunately, Sparks of Hope DLCs won't be available separately, so you'll have to get the season pass to access the upcoming content. There will be no DLC in the immediate future, but the first piece of the season pass will go live in early 2023, with two more major content updates spread out over the year.

The first DLC will be a new game mode called ‘The Tower of Doooom', a new combat game mode, likely facing increasingly harder waves of enemies until you reach the final stage. This mode will arrive in early 2023 and will be the only new game mode added through the season pass.

The next DLC will arrive in mid-2023 and will introduce players to a new foe and a new enemy to take down. Finally, in late 2023, a Rayman DLC will release, sending Rayman, Rabbid Peach & Rabbid Mario off on a new adventure.

KitGuru Says: I loved the original Mario + Rabbids but I've yet to jump into Sparks of Hope. These upcoming DLCs sound good, especially the Rayman expansion, but not making them available individually is a shame.

While initially we thought Ubisoft would be holding its own major games showcase this summer, it seems those plans have changed. Ubisoft is now holding separate events for its upcoming titles like Skull & Bones and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, and will also be attending Gamescom in August.

Today, Ubisoft will stream a new gameplay deep dive on Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, giving us an early look at the new Mario strategy game in action prior to its October release date. Next week, there is also apparently going to be a Skull & Bones re-reveal, which will give us a glimpse at everything the game has to offer, as well as a final release date after many, many delays.

Later on in August, Ubisoft will also be attending Gamescom 2022. While the publisher hasn't announced any stream or announcement plans, at the very least, there will be Ubisoft games playable at the conference on the main floor. This will likely include demos for Skull & Bones and Mario + Rabbids, and possibly even a demo for an upcoming Assassin's Creed game.

While Ubisoft has not officially announced anything yet, reliable sources have claimed that an Assassin's Creed spin-off is on the way, which will focus on one of the side characters from Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

This afternoon, Nintendo went live as planned with a new Nintendo Direct stream filled with new game announcements. Atlus is bringing over a trio of Persona games to the Switch and soon, Ubisoft will also be releasing the highly anticipated sequel to Mario + Rabbids.

When Mario + Rabbids was first rumoured back in 2017, none of us thought the game would turn out as well as it did. However, the combination of characters, levels and XCOM style strategy ended up being a joy to play through. Ubisoft has been quietly working away on a sequel ever since, and we'll finally get our hands on it this October.

Assuming the delay bug doesn't plague Ubisoft once again, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope should release on the 20th of October this year – a release date that Ubisoft mistakenly leaked earlier this morning ahead of Nintendo's reveal. Here is the official description for the game:

“The motley team of Mario, his friends and the heroic Rabbids – now joined by Bowser – blast off for a galactic adventure in the latest Mario + Rabbids game! The galaxy is in a universe of trouble when a dark entity, Cursa, wants to absorb all its energy. In doing so, it will try to capture the Sparks, creatures born from the merging of Lumas and Rabbids, and drain them of their energy, too. Now, the team must travel the cosmos to save the Sparks from Cursa’s grasp and fight back in tactical, dynamic battles.”

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope will add shades of Super Mario Galaxy to the formula, with the story focused on Mario and his friends' quest to stop Cursa from absorbing all the energy in the universe. As you would expect, there are multiple editions of the game available to pre-order starting today, including a base edition and a Gold edition that includes the season pass – just like the first game.

We'll be getting a deeper look at Sparks of Hope in action tomorrow, during Ubisoft's own Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope showcase.

Nintendo is set to go live with a 25 minute long 3rd-party Nintendo Direct later today. Unfortunately, it seems one of the planned announcements leaked ahead of time, by none other than the game’s publisher. Ubisoft seemingly accidentally announced the release date of the upcoming Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.

Though it has since been taken down (and archived by Twitter user Nibel), Ubisoft updated its store front to reveal that Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is launching exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on the 20th of October 2022, just 4 short months away.

What’s more, the game is set to get a ‘GOLD EDITION’ as is typical with most Ubisoft titles. Though no price was shown, the Gold Edition will come with the base game as well as “the Galactic Prestige Pack, with three exclusive and supremely stylish weapon skins for your team, unlockable right away. Save the galaxy, but do it with pizzazz!”

More interestingly however, the Gold Edition also includes the game’s Season Pass, which is said to contain “upcoming DLC packs, including additional story content featuring new heroes, quests, and battles.”

2017’s Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle saw its fair share of downloadable content released in the form of the rather expansive Donkey Kong Adventure DLC. Initially, this DLC was planned to be quite small in nature, before the game’s success led to the team expanding its scope. With Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope already looking to be bigger and better than the first game, hopefully its DLC is equally as elevated.

Sony held a State of Play earlier this month and just last night, the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase took place. So far, Nintendo has not announced any major game announcement plans for this month, but according to multiple sources, there will be a new Direct stream very soon.

Sony Santa Monica writer and content creator, Alanah Pearce, revealed during a recent Twitch stream that there is a Nintendo Direct scheduled for the 29th of June, but added that she did not get that information directly from Nintendo. VGC has also heard through sources that Nintendo will be holding a Direct on the 29th of June.

The previous Nintendo Direct took place in February and by all accounts, it was a great showcase, mainly focusing on games coming out in the first half of this year. That list includes the likes of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes and Nintendo Switch Sports.

It is expected that the Summer Direct will focus on games coming in late 2022, as well as a tease at what to expect in 2023. We can expect updates on titles like Bayonetta 3, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, Splatoon 3, Breath of the Wild 2 and the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet and Violet games.

While previous reports claimed that Ubisoft would hold its own E3-style showcase in June, it turns out that may not be the case. Ubisoft has confirmed this week that it won't be holding a showcase this month alongside others in the industry. However, a new Ubisoft Forward will still likely take place this year.

Speaking with Axios, an Ubisoft spokesperson confirmed that the company isn't planning a new game showcase until “later this year”, so perhaps sometime in Q3, rather than over the summer.

Ubisoft has a few games to show off that we already know about, including Skull & Bones, a new Assassin's Creed spin-off title, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope.

This change in plan likely came following the cancelation of E3 in late March. In E3's place, Geoff Keighley has organised Summer Game Fest in its place, which will include announcements from publishers all around the industry. Sony will also be hosting a State of Play this week, and Microsoft will be holding the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase on the 12th of June.

Aside from the games we know are coming out relatively soon, Ubisoft also has a ton of other games in the works, including a new Splinter-Cell, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, Beyond Good and Evil 2 and Assassin's Creed Infinity, but all of these games are still some ways off from release.

KitGuru Says: Aside from Mario + Rabbids, which may end up being shown at a Nintendo Direct, it doesn't seem like Ubisoft has much coming out this year to make any real noise about.

Ubisoft held its earnings call this week, and with it being the first earnings report for the new financial year, Ubisoft also gave investors some much needed updates on the upcoming release schedule. For starters, Skull & Bones should finally release this year, and other anticipated titles, like Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora aren't too far behind either.

During the earnings call, Ubisoft confirmed to investors hat Skull and Bones, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and the new Mario + Rabbids game are all on the release schedule for this fiscal year, ending in April 2023. More specific release dates have not yet been announced, but we would expect that Mario + Rabbids to be shown at the next major Nintendo Direct, or perhaps Ubisoft's own upcoming E3 replacement stream.

As for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, this title has been in development for five years already at Ubisoft Massive, the same studio behind The Division. With a new Avatar film coming out this December, we would expect that this game is also targeting a December release date. However, it is also worth noting that no real gameplay footage has been shown yet, which could indicate a delay on the horizon.

Finally, we have Skull & Bones, a game that has been in development for eight years already. This game has been appearing, disappearing and reappearing at E3 for years, and has been rebooted a number of times already. Recently, a full gameplay presentation showcasing the game in action leaked online, indicating that this game is on track for a 2022 or early 2023 release date.

Aside from these three previously announced titles, we can expect a few other game releases from Ubisoft this year. While it hasn't been announced yet, reliable sources have claimed that a new Assassin's Creed spin-off is coming this October.

KitGuru Says: I have some major doubts that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will make it out this year. While Ubisoft claims it is right now, the publisher is also not afraid to delay games for significant amounts of time, as exhibited by the lengthy, drawn out development cycle for Skull & Bones, as well as other games, like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, which was recently delayed once again.

According to a new leak, Ubisoft is planning its own games showcase, and it could be one of the publisher's biggest in years. So far, there are 20 known projects in the works at Ubisoft, ranging from already announced titles like Avatar and Assassin's Creed Infinity, to unannounced games like The Crew 3 and a new Prince of Persia game.

As reported by Tom Henderson, a leaker with a good track record, Ubisoft was initially planning to hold this event before E3 in June, but it was delayed to the Summer. According to his sources, Ubisoft has 20 games it wants to showcase during the event, including updates on previously announced titles and some new reveals.

Starting with the games we already know, the event should include Skull and Bones, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, The Division Heartland, Splinter Cell Remake and Ghost Recon Frontline. Other games that will likely be shown include XDefiant, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, Roller Champions, and Beyond Good and Evil 2. We should also see more about Assassin's Creed VR, Splinter Cell VR, and Rocksmith+.

As far as unannounced titles go, it is currently expected that we'll see The Crew 3, a sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising and a new Prince of Persia game. We should also see the reveal of Assassin's Creed Rift, which leaked earlier this year, as well as a teaser for Assassin's Creed Infinity, which should be coming in 2023.

With Christmas nearly upon us, all the major shops, both retail and online are hosting their winter sales, with Nintendo being no different. Its ‘Festive Offers’ sale has over 700 Nintendo Switch titles discounted, making it the perfect opportunity to knock some of the items off of your wishlist. From AAA to indies, there’s something for everyone in the Festive Offers sale, available only until the 2nd of January.

One of the games on offer is Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. This turn-based tactical RPG came from a collaboration between Nintendo and Ubisoft. Releasing in 2017, the game was well received by both fans and critics alike, citing the unconventional combination to have led to a wholly creative title. The game can currently be had for £11.09 (63% off).

Puyo Puyo Tetris, the crossover between two of gamings biggest puzzlers, is also on sale. This competitive party game takes everything that you know about both Puyo Puyo, and Tetris, and turns it on its head as you rapidly switch between the two games in order to one-up your opponent. Featuring a story mode, local multiplayer, and online competitive modes, the game has plenty to offer. Puyo Puyo Tetris is currently available for £10.49 (70% off).

When Nintendo announced Cadence of Hyrule back in March, it took everyone by surprise. It’s not often that Nintnedo chooses to trust its IP in the hands of other developers, but as was seen with Mario + Rabbids, it's not impossible. Now, you can own the game that Inspired Cadence of Hyrule – Crypt of the Necrodancer – for just £3.59 (80% off).

These are but merely 3 of the 700 titles that are currently on sale for the Nintendo Switch. To check out the full list of “Festive Offers”, click HERE. The sale ends on the 2nd of January, so make sure to check out the offers while you can.
