Spider-Man Miles Morales is one of Sony’s flagship titles launching with the PlayStation 5 later this year. Positioned as a standalone spin-off of 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man, GameInformer have suggested that the original game will receive a remaster for the PS5 and will be packaged in with Miles Morales.

In a recent issue of the GameInformer magazine, the publication claimed that Miles Morales “comes bundled with a remastered version of Insomniac’s Spider-Man that takes full advantage of the PS5 hardware.”

While neither Sony nor Insomniac Games have confirmed/denied this suggestion, GameInformer did partner with the studio back in 2018 to publish exclusive information on (the then upcoming) Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Further evidence to suggest a PS5 remaster includes the fact that Sony themselves used the title to demonstrate the advantages and upgrades of the PlayStation 5 over the current-gen system – showcasing faster loading times and increased movement speeds.

Insomniac Games recently confirmed that Miles Morales would be playable in 4K at 60fps, and considering the fact that 2018’s Spider-Man is based on similar – if not the same – engine and technology, improvements are certainly possible.

Of course, until Insomniac Games or Sony themselves confirm this, take it with a pinch of salt. Regardless of whether Marvel’s Spider-Man receives a remaster for the PlayStation 5, the 2018 open-world title will be playable on the upcoming console, as PlayStation has at least confirmed backwards compatibility with the PlayStation 4.

Marvel’s Spider-Man was one of 2018’s biggest titles. Developed by Insomniac Games, the first-party PlayStation title saw universal acclaim from both critics and fans alike. Selling over 13 million copies, the game was a huge success becoming the best selling superhero game of all time, leading to little doubt in any one’s mind that a sequel was on the way. According to one Reddit user, the sequel is set to arrive in Holiday 2021, with a number of new features and improvements.

Posted by Reddit user UtopianThrowaway90, they claim that the sequel will arrive in Holiday 2021, citing September as a possible release month. The reveal for the game is set for this Summer and will feature both Queens and Brookyln as playable areas. According to UtopianThrowaway90, these new locations have necessitated new gameplay mechanics to be developed due to the buildings being much smaller.

The game will allegedly feature a “web-chain” mechanic similar to Beenox’s titles, where you can pre-select multiple locations, with Spider-Man then dynamically zipping between them. Web swinging in general has apparently been “overhauled”. The game will feature “MANY MANY MANY” more web swinging animations, with “2 animators devoted completely and solely to the web release animations throughout the entire development cycle”.

The game will also allow for more choice, letting users pick between three swinging modes: Realistic, Arcade and Hybrid. Realistic will feel familiar to those who played Treyarch’s Spider-Man 2 game with much of the swinging being based purely on physics. Arcade will go in the opposite direction, with a much greater level of assistance to the player, and Hybrid will be a meld of the two – most similar to the first game’s mechanics.

For story details, click HERE, although be warned, the details include a number of story spoilers for both the first game and potential spoilers for the second. Marvel’s Spider-Man was possibly the best Spider-Man game to date, and with all the alleged improvements, as well as the power of the PlayStation 5 and the DualShock 5, the next title by Insomniac Games is likely to be a major gaming event, making players feel like Spider-Man like never before. Of course, these are just rumours, so be sure to take it all with a pinch of salt. Regardless, it is exciting.

KitGuru says: What do you think of these rumours? Do you like what you’re hearing so far? What other additions would you like to see in the sequel? Let us know down below.

Many former Telltale staff are still seeking new jobs after the collapse of the studio back in September, with some temporarily flocking to Skybound Games to finish The Walking Dead: The Final Season. Lead writer Mary Kenney has since secured a position at Insomniac Games, the developer most recently known for Marvel’s Spider-Man.

The Game Awards 2018 Game of the Year Award nominee is coming to an end, as Marvel’s Spider-Man is set to receive its final DLC when Silver Lining drops on December 21st. Insomniac hasn’t revealed what its next major project will be, but it’s likely that Kenney will help lead the charge on pre-production when she begins her role in the New Year.

Kenney announced the news on Twitter, yet didn’t mention what role she would be occupying at her new studio. Having risen to the rank of lead writer in just 16 months at Telltale Games thanks to her work on Batman: The Enemy Within, it isn’t clear whether she will maintain that position or start a little further down the chain.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season was Kenney’s last project, which managed to receive a lifeline following the abrupt firing of her 270-odd former colleagues and liquidation of Telltale. It seems as though Kenney decided against joining the undisclosed amount that returned to help complete the remaining three episodes.

While this turns out to be great news for Kenney, narrative designer Emily Grace Buck has maintained her push on the hashtag #TelltaleJobs in order to help “a lot of former Telltale employees” find a new position elsewhere. Buck’s efforts don’t stop there, as she has continually offered her own insights into the industry, what happened with Telltale and held a Q&A to clear up any misconceptions.

KitGuru Says: The collapse of Telltale Games will always be a sad thing to talk about, but it’s great to see talent from the former studio find their feet. Hopefully the remaining lot receive the credit they deserve and get picked up by other firms soon.
