In the last few days, there have been a lot of rumours about AMD's 600-series motherboards, with reports claiming we would see new X670 and B650 boards at Computex 2022. Now, just ahead of AMD's keynote, details about X670 motherboards from vendors like ASRock and Asus have emerged online.

Earlier this week, Wccftech claimed that B650, X670 and X670E motherboards will be introduced at Computex 2022. The first two should be direct successors to the B550 and the X570, while the X670E looks to be a higher-end X670, where the “E” stands for “Extreme”.

As per the rumours, the X670e will feature PCIe 5.0 connectivity to the storage and graphics as baseline, whereas the X670 only features PCIe 4.0. Memory specifications are still unknown, but considering the mandatory PCIe 5.0 connectivity, we wouldn't be surprised if all X670E boards featured DDR5 memory support, while the X670 could either have support for DDR4 or DDR5 memory.

Shortly after these early reports emerged, ASRock accidentally uploaded a video showcasing its X670E Taichi motherboard. The video was later privatised, but VideoCardz was fast enough to document the evidence.

Lastly, a leaked PCB diagram of the Asus X670-P Prime WiFi was spotted by HXL on Baidu. In it, you can see the DDR5 memory slots, the 14-phase VRM design and the single PCIe x16 interface. However, the most surprising part is the dual chipset, matching an old rumour that the new motherboards would pack two Promontory chips from ASMedia. Besides this motherboard, there were mentions of ProArt X670E-Creator WiFi and a ProArt B650-Creator motherboards too.

Packed to the brim with useful features and built around a high-performance 14-phase power delivery solution, Gigabyte is clearly aiming for enthusiasts with its high-end X570 Aorus Master motherboard. The deployment of a true 14-phase digital PWM controller from Infineon backs up that claim.

And let's not forget about the solid VRM heatsink that features two finned arrays connected via heatpipe. It's great to see Gigabyte continuing its ‘performance-first' design philosophy for VRM cooling on high-end motherboards as it truly is an important factor in the overall performance and stability equation.

Aside from the ultra-high-end power delivery solution, the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master offers several useful features for a variety of enthusiasts. Cooling fans (excuse the pun) will be happy to see seven 4-pin fan headers and two thermal sensor connectors.

Triple PCIe Gen 4 M.2 connectors can be used simultaneously and all of them are cooled. Networking gurus will be glad to see 2.5Gb Ethernet and also 2.4Gbps-capable 802.11ax WiFi. And for those who like styling, the understated black and silver appearance should help to avoid colour clashes.

While it certainly isn't cheap at around £390, can the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master prove its worth as the second highest-end board in Gigabyte's current AM4 line-up?

Features (information taken from the Gigabyte webpage):

  • Direct 14 Phase Infineon Digital VRM
  • Fin-Array Heatsink & Direct Touch Heatpipe
  • Triple PCIe 4.0 M.2 with Thermal Guards
  • Intel® WiFi 6 802.11ax
  • ESS SABRE HiFi 9118
  • 2.5GbE+1GbE LAN
  • USB Type-C

PC Specialist has broken a speed record to hustle a budget gaming PC out of the door that uses the latest AMD RX 480 graphics card based on the new Polaris GPU. When you spend £799 you generally get a Core i5 with GTX 960 4GB graphics so the prospect of an RX 480 8GB is highly appetising.

Based on KitGuru reviews of RX 480 the stock GPU can be expected to perform as well as GTX 970 and if you work hard on the overclocking you can may even approach the levels of GTX 980. By that reckoning PC Specialist Hyperion Master sounds like it might be a cheap gaming PC that performs well in 1080p, which is a pretty darned exciting prospect.

Specifications

  • CPU Intel Core i5-6400 (2.7GHz base, 3.3GHz Turbo)
  • CPU cooler PC Specialist FrostFlow 120mm liquid cooler
  • Memory 8GB HyperX Fury DDR4-2133MHz RAM
  • Motherboard Asus Z-170P
  • Graphics card AMD Radeon RX 480 8GB
  • SSD 120GB HyperX Savage SSD
  • Storage 1TB Toshiba hard drive
  • Audio Realtek 8-channel
  • Case In-Win GT1
  • PSU Corsair VS550
  • OS Windows 10

When a PC costs £599 your expectations are fairly low but £799 is a tricky area. The graphics card accounts for fully one quarter of the price and the Core i5-6400 retails for £150, which is another hefty chunk. 8GB of Kingston DDR4-2133MHz costs £30-£40 so while we like the idea of more memory or faster memory we understand that compromises have to be made.

It's a similar story with the Corsair VS550 power supply which is a budget piece of hardware or the 120GB Kingston SSD which is backed up by a 1TB Toshiba hard drive. At every stage in the game PC Specialist could have bumped up the specification and made Hyperion Master more luxurious but the price would have also risen exponentially.

The result is a gaming PC that looks neat and tidy, and which has clearly been professionally built with every cable in the correct place. From a cosmetic point of view Hyperion Master lacks impact as the In-Win case GT1 is a bit plasticky and has a bazillion vents that appear to be styled to suit teenagers.

We older types look at the GT1 and merely see a great many places that will require dusting. It is a similar story with the PC Specialist branded 120mm liquid cooler where you can either clap your hands with glee at getting liquid cooling or you might instead wonder why it isn't Corsair, Thermaltake or NZXT (to name but three brands). The answer, obviously, is price.

Testing
And so we come to the big question of how the PC Specialist Hyperion Master performs. Does it deliver more oomph than we expect for £799 or is it merely another budget PC?

Happily the answer is that a combination of Core i5, RX 480, Kingston DDR4 and Kingston SSD does a fine job. We were able to play Grand Theft Auto V, Ashes of the Singularity and Rise of Tomb Raider at 1080p with the settings cranked High. Average frame rates were in the 55fps to 70fps range and the gaming experience was good.

It is worth reiterating a point we make in the video which is that the AMD drivers were a Beta and performance will only improve from these levels. In addition, if PC Specialist ditches the reference design for an after-market RX 480 that should also deliver an improvement.

You have to be realistic and accept that 4K is out of bounds for this PC but, provided you are sensible about screen resolution, the Hyperion Master does a fine job.

Cooling Performance

PCS Temperatures

CPU temperatures are very low, which is exactly what we expect to see from a 65W TDP Core i5 with a relatively low clock speed. The GPU temperature is quite high for a new graphics card running at stock clocks, however we are confident this is entirely due to the lousy reference design CPU cooler that AMD has used. Once again, a change from the reference design is likely to be a change for the better.

Acoustics performance
With the case fans running in silent mode the PC Specialist Hyperion Master is very quiet. This is impressive when you consider the case isn't filled with noise deadening material and uses a fairly basic liquid cooler. Clearly the low power draw of the CPU and GPU play their respective parts as the system doesn't produce much heat, so overall we were very pleased with the low noise levels.

Closing Thoughts

Typically £799 will buy you a Core i5 PC with GTX 960 graphics so this PC Specialist Hyperion Master with AMD RX 480 is very good news indeed. For a relatively modest price you get a PC that looks perfectly OK and which performs like a Bantam Weight with more punch than you might expect from a tiddler.

We have to treat Hyperion Master as an overture, rather than the full symphony, as we need to see a PC with an after-market RX 480 in place of the reference graphics card. Even so, on this evidence it is clear that AMD is back in the fight and is addressing the lower end of the market, and the result is a £799 PC you really ought to buy.

Anyone who's owned one of Cooler Master's awesome Cosmos chassis will, at some point, have wondered why they didn't make a smaller one. One that would fit easily into any space. Well, with the launch of the Cosmos SE, that wait is over. We're happy.

If a chassis won't take an E-ATX mainboard, how many people will that really affect? We guess a very small part of the population.

The new Cosmos SE is an updated and smaller version of KitGuru's ‘Chassis of the Year 2012'.

It has a polymer appearance, with a mesh front bezel, steel case body and aluminium struts.

The case caters for ATX, micro-ATX and Mini-ITX motherboards (can you just imagine the loneliness of a Mini-ITX board in this chassis!).

There are three 5.25″ bays on the front panel, and 8x 3.5″ bays – alongside 15 slots for SSD drives. OK, so this is ‘small' in the way that the Tardis is small.

We managed to chat with Cooler Master's expert in these areas, Raymon Wu. He told us, “It can support 360mm radiator on the front, a 240/280mm radiator on the top and a 120mm radiator on the rear for those water cooling enthusiasts. The maximum graphics card length is limited to 390mm, and the clearance for CPU cooler is 165mm”.

We're not sure that you can describe 390mm as a limitation for graphic cards in the general sense – it's enough to handle a Titan with many centimeters to spare.

Asked about the clever airflow design that is a fundamental part of the chassis layout, Ray told us, “We focus on cooling so the our customers don't have to”.

Nice.

We love the way that Cooler Master has combined elegance with a sinister edge – like looking into the eyes of a gorgeously dangerous woman – especially with the deep red tones that permeate the shadows within.

It's easy to be proud when your company just delivered something like this.

Today we are going to look at the latest all-in-one CPU water cooler from Cooler Master, the Eisberg Prestige 240L which competes with the latest models from the likes of Corsair and NZXT. The Eisberg range is targeted specifically at enthusiasts and boasts a number of exciting features that differentiate it from the competition.

Cooler Master has been a little slow with the launch of the Eisberg series of all-in-one CPU coolers for as it's taken much longer than expected to get them ready for market. In the meantime, they released their Seidon range of more mainstream liquid coolers which performed well in our tests.

We will be comparing the Eisberg Prestige 240L with the Seidon 240M that we reviewed a few weeks back in this review to see how they compare.

Features:

  • German designed pump provides stable and strong water pressure
  • JetStream Technology – provides turbo injection of water inside the waterblock
  • Improved cold plate design:
    • Large Micro Channel contact area
    • 100% copper
    • Fine cut Jet Plate
  • Integrated pump and waterblock
  • Easy installation with Eisberg mounting kit

Today we are going to look at the Cooler Master Seidon 240M which is the latest 240 mm liquid CPU cooler to hit the market. We were very impressed with Cooler Master's first attempt at a liquid CPU cooler, the Seidon 120M, when we reviewed it back in January. It offered great value for money and was one of the cheapest all-in-one models on the market.

Cooler Master has been fairly late to market with their all-in-one liquid cooling units, compared to the likes of Corsair and Antec. With the ever increasing popularity of Corsair's all-in-one models, it's not surprising that they have started releasing competing products.

In this review we will be comparing the Cooler Master Seidon 240M with the Corsair H100i, H110 and the NZXT Kraken X60.

Features

  • Factory filled with coolant, then sealed and pressure tested – requires zero maintenance for years.
  • Waterblock made with UltraFine Micro Channel enlarge the contact surface between cold plate and coolant.
  • Durable and powerful water pump – dissipates heat effectively and maintains temperatures through stable water circulation.
  • Performance 240mm radiator is designed for handling high wattage overclocked CPU.
  • Double 120mm PWM fan with a wide RPM range to fine tune and balance fan noise and performance.

The post Nerdytec CouchMaster Premium Review first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
In days gone by, it was rare to see PC gamers sitting anywhere other than at a desk when enjoying their favourite titles. With the emergence and widespread adoption of big-screen TVs and floor-shaking surround sound systems, PC gamers' desks have a competing entertainment area – the couch.

While couch (or sofa for us Brits) gaming is more commonly associated with consoles which rely upon handheld controllers, that's not to say that the entertainment equipment isn't up to scratch for high quality PC action. One of the main caveats for hardcore PC fans was the awkwardness of using a keyboard and mouse while sat away from the input devices' natural home – the desk.

Nerdytec has aimed to solve that problem with its portable-desk-like CouchMaster. Combining a solid wood cross-section support with a pair of soft, comfort-enhancing cushions, is the CouchMaster the product to make PC gaming a viable option for the ‘big screen'?

Components:

  • 2x support cushions (1 with pocket).
  • 1x wooden cross board support with integrated cable management.
  • 3x palm and wrist rests.
  • Hook and loop (Velcro) self-adhesive fastener strips.
  • 4 port USB 3.0 mains-powered hub (Premium-edition only).
  • 5m USB 3.0 extension cable (Premium-edition only).

One of the more interesting stands at Multiplay i46 was the Cooler Master one. Not only did they have a clever ball-throwing-challenge for serious prizes, they also had a huge range of gaming peripherals on show and, without doubt, one of the most gorgeous overclocked systems we've seen. KitGuru sets the cameras to pixellate.

While a lot of companies have huge ups and downs in the chassis/PSU/cooler business, Cooler Master has enjoyed a sustained period of solid sales. Sure, right now, the mix might be a little chassis-heavy, but overall the various parts of the business are doing well. The only thing it's missing is, perhaps, a tweak to its cooling solutions.

Then there's CM Storm, the serious gaming side of the company. At Multiplay i46, we had a chance to catch up with Cooler Master's marketing guru, Gert Rutjens, for a quick overview of the market.

“Customers in the gaming market are becoming so advanced in terms of their tastes and preferences”, Gert explained. “Go back 10 years or so and only a handful of people would know what kind of switching mechanism they wanted inside their keyboard”.

“These days, almost every gamer has a preference”, he said. “That increase in knowledge means you need to get your products spot on. You can't have any weaknesses”.

We asked, and Gert confirmed, that sales of CM Storm gaming gear are going really well in the UK right now. Phew, that could have been awkward.

While the rows of gaming gear options were interesting – and the competition to throw soft balls into holes left by popping the front panels off 5.25″ bays was interesting enough, the key focus on the stand was a mega-machine built by OC Guru and leader of the famous benchtec team, Paul Watkinson. We're not sure if the shots sent in by our operative will do the Beast justice, but we can at least try.

From the intensity with which he's checking the scores for his competition, you might never believe that Gert Rutjens is one of the nicest blokes in the IT industry. The Watkinson system? Now THAT's a serious monster.

We reckon this set up might do better than 30 frames a second. Probably.

The dark secret of this PC is the super efficient PSU tucked in at the back. Under 600w and the fans don't move

KitGuru says: Cooler Master have been producing high quality, affordable, attractive cases, power supplies and gaming accessories for many years now – and show no signs of slowing down. The Paul Watkinson creation on the stand for Multiplay i46 was inspired. Same for the highly popular ‘throw balls in the open 5.25″ bays' game. Just not sure about all the red-headed guys.

The funny thing is that, even though a small fortune has been spent on the décor and layout, the coolest thing in the whole of the Cooler Master suite, is the tiny 3-letter sign superglued to a door in the corner.

It simply says “NDA”.

Non-Disclosure Agreements are typically used by companies who want to show customers/press early product – without it being discussed anywhere else.

To avoid any issues, we didn’t ask for access to the room (cos we have more than half an idea of what is on the other side).

The original Cosmos was a classic piece of design, with its iconic handles and brushed aluminium side panels – it remains a firm KitGuru favourite. Although companies like Scan have had a V2 for a while, it’s been more a case of ‘clever marketing’ rather than advanced access to the new stuff. The Cosmos 2 is a monster of a case – building on the existing design elements – but evolved to the latest materials and thinking. It’s looking to be a great choice for high-end workstation builds.

The Trooper looks exactly how you would expect. Strong features – evolved from the HAF side of the family – but with a tough rubberised exterior and an integrated carry handle that, for once, actually adds to the design. It’s plenty strong enough to pick up and throw around from LAN to LAN – which is exactly what it has been designed for.

KitGuru says: Sources inside the Cooler Master booth confirmed that both designs will be in stores in time for Christmas. We anticipate the Trooper being around the £100 mark with the Cosmos 2 closer to £149.
