This afternoon, it was reported that multiple developer sources had seen the Nintendo Switch 2 during a behind-the-scenes demo session at Gamescom last month. Now, we have some more details about what was specifically shown and it would appear that the Switch 2 will ship with the features we've been hoping to see in an updated Switch model for years.

A report from VGC corroborates the earlier report that developers had seen the new-gen Switch at Gamescom. However, we get a bit more detail about the demo itself. Nintendo reportedly showed an updated version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild running on the new hardware, achieving higher frame rates and resolutions compared to the original Switch version. However, we do not know if this updated Switch 2 version of the game will ever see the light of day, it may have just been a quick and easy demo to put together to showcase new hardware capabilities.

Aside from the updated version of Breath of the Wild, the Switch 2 demo also included a showing of the Matrix Awakens tech demo. This demo arrived on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 consoles two years ago, developed by Epic Games to showcase new features of Unreal Engine 5. The demo was said to have been using Nvidia's DLSS technology for upscaling.

If true, this confirms that Nintendo's next console will be capable of running next-gen games developed with Unreal Engine 5. It also confirms that DLSS will be utilised on the console, something we had been hoping to see in a Switch Pro in recent years.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: We've seen bursts of fake Nintendo console rumours multiple times over the last few years. Just two years ago, many trusted sources were convinced that a Switch Pro was finally coming, only to be met with the Switch OLED, which uses the same hardware as the original model. With that in mind, any leaks about future Nintendo systems should be taken with a grain of salt.

Asus has announced the world's first mass-produced graphics card using liquid metal on the GPU, the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090. Thanks to its impressive cooling solution, it boasts the highest out-of-the-box boost clocks of any RTX 4090 card on the market today.

Drawing from their expertise in liquid metal technology gained through their ROG laptop division, Asus has developed an exclusive production process for the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090. By incorporating UV resin and protective layers between the die and the main PCB, the manufacturer ensures that the liquid metal remains securely contained without any risk of leakage.

To complement the liquid metal cooling solution, the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 includes a custom 360mm radiator and three ROG MF-12S ARGB fans. The fans can be daisy-chained using a magnetic connector, simplifying installation and cable management. With high-static pressure and airflow, these fans effectively keep the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 operating at a cool 60°C under its 450-watt TGP. The need for an auxiliary fan is eliminated thanks to the custom full-coverage cold plate, which makes contact with all heat-producing components on the PCB.

The design of the ROG Matrix RTX 4090 is a testament to its flagship status. The GPU frame and housing are constructed entirely of metal, giving it a modern appearance. It incorporates indirect ASUS Aura Lighting and a distinctive ‘hollow' chamber enclosed by a larger aluminium frame to protect the main cold plate, circuit board, and pump shroud.

The ROG Matrix RTX 4090 also supports software features like Power Detector+, which enables the card to detect any anomalies with the power pins individually, and the Mileage feature, which tracks card usage across various power levels. In addition to the typical temperature sensors found on GPUs, this card incorporates additional sensors across the VRMs, chokes, and power input circuitry. These sensors provide real-time thermal data, which can be monitored using the new Thermal Map feature in the ASUS GPU Tweak III app. Lastly, a Dual BIOS switch lets users switch between Quiet and Performance modes.

Kitguru says: What do you all think of the ROG Matrix RTX 4090? How much more do you think it'll end up costing compared to a standard version?

The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience shadow-dropped on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S last month, giving console owners a peek into the potential of Unreal Engine 5. Less than a full month after launch however, the demo is getting delisted, meaning you have until this weekend to add the title to your library.

As reported by gaming-focused Twitter account Wario64, The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience is set to be delisted from both the Xbox and PlayStation storefronts on Saturday the 9th of July – less than one month after its 12th of June debut during the Summer Game Fest Kick off showcase.

Unfortunately, the full demo was never released for PC, meaning that once it is delisted, there will be no third-party option to download it; so now is your final chance to add the game to your library. Fortunately, once added, you can delete and reinstall the game to your heart's content – at least for the foreseeable future.

For the uninitiated, The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience is “a free, boundary-pushing cinematic and open-world interactive tech demo that combines the power of PlayStation 5 with UE5” and is self-described as “the future of interactive storytelling and entertainment”. While not the smoothest performing demo, it was undoubtedly impressive, and as such, its removal from storefronts is disappointing.

In partnership with multiple custom PC builders, Nvidia is commemorating the release of The Matrix Resurrections by giving away three unique and water-cooled desktop systems and 5x custom RTX 3080 Ti Matrix-themed backplates.

As the name implies, the Digital Storm Backup Operator was developed by Digital Storm itself and Stefan Ulrich (RandomDesign), a full-time artist with extensive modding experience. Based on the Digital Storm Aventum X case, Ulrich altered it to fit into the Matrix's theme, featuring green LEDs, multiple decorative displays, other add-ons, and a lot of cable clutter.

The Digital Storm Backup Operator features an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, paired with an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X mounted on an Asus ROG Maximus Crosshair VIII Formula with 32GB of DDR4 HyperX Fury RGB memory. There's a 1TB M.2 SSD and a 4TB HDD for storage, and an 80 Plus Gold 1200W PSU delivers power to the system. The cooling system uses Corsair's vast HydroLux Pro custom liquid cooling components.

Moving on to the NZXT Nebuchadnezzar, the custom PC was developed in partnership with Dave Cathey (or Insolent Gnome), utilising seven years of modding experience to design this machine. This creation was obviously inspired by the hovercraft from the Matrix movies, with several Sentinel arms around it. Still, you can also see other design cues from the Matrix movies, like the red or blue pill props, the white rabbit on the NZXT Kraken pump display, the green LEDs, and much more.

This system is based on the NZXT H710i and features an RTX 3080 Ti Founders Edition, an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X and 32GB of TeamGroup T-Force DDR4 memory. These components are mounted on an NZXT N7 B550 motherboard and powered by an NZXT C850 PSU. A Z73 Kraken AIO cools the CPU, and the case has multiple Aer LED fans to create airflow. Your storage needs will be fulfilled by a WD 1TB M.2 storage drive.

Lastly, there's Staszek “Tips” Wiertelak's creation, the strangest system out of the three. Unlike the others, the Breacher was created from scratch, which allowed the modder to design a “broadcast station jury-rigged to emit a pirate signal that impersonates a hacked sentinel”.

Unlike the others, this one features an RTX 3090 GPU alongside a Ryzen 9 3950X and 32GB of Corsair Vengeance RGB memory. The motherboard used in this build is an MSI X370 Carbon with 2TB of M.2 storage, and the system is powered by a Cooler Master PSU with 1200W.

In addition to these three custom PCs, there are five RTX 3080 Ti GPU backplates to win, each featuring at least three different visuals. Besides the white rabbit also featured in the NZXT AIO pump's display, the other two visuals have the classic green letters dropping from above and the deja vu black cat from the sixth and seventh iterations of the Matrix.

The competition will run from December 14th to the 22nd on Nvidia's FacebookTwitter, and Instagram channels. Those interested in winning one of the custom PCs or a custom GPU backplate will have to follow the instructions presented in those posts.

KitGuru says: This is a pretty huge competition. Will you be entering? Which of the custom PCs would you most like to win?

While much of today's news so far has focussed on the RTX 2060 launch, there are higher-end GPUs getting exciting announcements today too. Asus has unveiled the ROG Matrix RTX 2080Ti, a 3-slot flagship GPU with a completely integrated closed-loop liquid cooling set up- no additional radiators or tubing required.

The ROG Matrix RTX 2080Ti uses what Asus likes to call the ‘Infinity Loop'. Under the GPU shroud, you will find a closed loop all-in-one liquid cooling solution. There are still three fans on top for additional cooling but the bulk of the heat will be managed by the integrated AIO. The story doesn't end there though, ROG Matrix cards are specifically binned for guaranteed overclock speeds.

Out of the box, the ROG Matrix will be the fastest aftermarket RTX 2080Ti around with a boost clock speed of 1815MHz in OC mode. In regular ‘gaming mode', the card still clocks in at 1800MHz, which is still a good improvement over the Founder's Edition, which has a boost speed of 1635MHz.

The ROG Matrix packs a larger heatsink that covers both the GPU die and GDDR6 memory modules. According to Asus, the cooling solution used here beats out 120mm AIO solutions and can even trade blows with 240mm AIOs. We'll need reviews to verify this, but so far, the ROG Matrix is sounding very promising.

Pricing and an exact release date have yet to be confirmed. However, given that the ROG Stix RTX 2080Ti sells for £1,500 here in the UK, the Matrix is going to end up being very expensive.

KitGuru Says: Given that these GPUs use binned chips, I would be interested in seeing how far it could be pushed with a manual overclock. Someone is going to need to have a lot of money on hand to see one of these in action though.

The Oculus Rift is on the way and should release around Spring next year. However, the Rift headset isn't the only bit of hardware that Oculus is set to release next year, it also has a brand new controller known as ‘Oculus Touch'. It's two motion sensing controllers that will allow you to interact better with objects in the virtual world.

Unfortunately, the Oculus Touch won't be out at the same time as the headset. The Oculus Rift itself is coming bundled with an Xbox One controller so the Oculus Touch was always going to be a separate purchase.

Oculus-Touch-e1434046355144

The Oculus Touch will obviously be incorporated in to games running on the Rift, which are also coming next year, one of which is Epic Games' new title, ‘Bullet Time', which is a Matrix inspired wave shooter that will allow you to slow down time and dodge bullets.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmaxmnPzMWE']

The Oculus Touch itself doesn't have a final price but it won't ship until the second quarter of 2016, which could be a few months after the launch of the Rift headset, which is due out in the first quarter of next year.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: The Oculus Touch seems like the perfect controller for VR, as long as you have the space to dedicate to actually moving around. The good thing is, Oculus isn't counting on you having that space, which is why the Rift comes bundled with a standard Xbox controller instead.

One of the most horrifying parts of The Matrix, wasn't that we were being grown and harvested like cattle, in a situation that makes you wonder, “why not just use cattle?” but that if you gave the robots any problems, the agents would impregnate you with a little, belly button robot that squirmed around inside, tracking you and no doubt giving awful heartburn. Now though, we may need to get used to the idea of a robot entering us through our umbilical scar tissue, as NASA is working on a robot that could help perform surgery in space.

With plans for much longer missions into space planned over the next couple of decades, the risk of major medical problems occurring to astronauts goes way up. There are many problems associated with a year plus round trip to Mars, but one of them is the health of the astronauts. While bone and muscle mass retention needs to be a daily grind, what happens if someone is tens of millions of miles away and suddenly develops appendicitis? That's where the stomach surgeon-bot comes in.

agents
Agents are an optional extra

Developed by Virtual Incision in collaboration with NASA's Human Research Programme, the bot will work by entering the patient through the belly button, taking all the necessary tools for cutting and extraction inside with it, rather than with keyhole surgery, which leaves all but the tool-heads outside of the body. With the majority inside, the tail of the device will be left hanging out, so as to provide a closed seal and prevent the leaking of blood and other fluids, which in zero gravity become problematic. That seal will also prevent the release of CO2 gas, which will be vented into the abdomen to improve visibility.

But don't worry, that robot isn't acting of its own free will, it'll be linked up remotely to a surgeon, either on Earth, or if the distance and delay is potentially too great, it could be handled locally – either way though, by performing internal surgery, it's less messy and requires less surgeon dexterity.

To make sure this system works in space, it's being tested in a parabolic flight next year and if all goes to plan, it could be introduced into future space craft and possibly the International Space Station in the future.

KitGuru Says: I'd be pretty freaked out letting this thing into my body. They'd have to knock me out or I'd be sat there waiting for it to burst out like a Xenomorph offspring.

In what sounds like the creation for the perfect tech, buddy movie, dream team, philosopher Huw Price, astrophysicist Martin Rees and co-founder of Skype Jaan Tallinn, have come together to work out the chances of technology turning on its masters and doing a Matrix on us.

“In the case of artificial intelligence, it seems a reasonable prediction that some time in this or the next century intelligence will escape from the constraints of biology,” Huw Price said. He claimed that at this point, technology that we created would ultimately become smarter than us and though it may not have malicious intent, it could certainly have goals of its own that didn't involve humanity.

Robotic Rider
I think we could take a robotic horseman

Fortunately for now, this is just a theory and this is the sort of scenario the three man think tank is hoping to figure out. If this is somewhat inevitable, what safeguards need to be put in place? Concerns in movies usually focus on a deliberate extermination of our species. However Price believes that the threat would come more likely from the AI not caring about things like the environment, since it wouldn't necessarily require an oxygen carrying atmosphere as humans do.

Set to launch sometime next year, these questions and more will be asked at the Center for the Study of Existential Risk, at Cambridge University.

KitGuru Says: Do you guys have an robotic doomsday picture in your head? Let us know how it plays out in the comment section.
