Since its official announcement back in May of last year, many fans of the Metal Gear Solid series have been eagerly awaiting for additional information on MGS Delta: Snake Eater. Bits and pieces of information have been released since – with Konami now sharing a 20-minute presentation on the franchise as a whole.

Available right now on Konami’s Japanese YouTube channel, a video titled ‘Metal Gear – Production Hotline’ revealed a number of small details on the current status of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater alongside other MGS projects.

As translated by ResetEra user ‘Dusk Golem’, the video covers multiple MGS titles, and as such not too much was shared on Delta. That said, the team did reveal the upcoming title’s main menu – showcasing some neat touches in its attention to detail.

The majority of the update was focused on the already-available Metal Gear Solid Master Collection, which had a less-than-stellar launch.

Fortunately, the team appears dedicated to fixing things, sharing a handy list of all planned changes; including 4K support for the games. Finally!

Though the video was overall light on information, the team promised that a bigger presentation will take place “soon” – so look forward to that.

During last year’s PlayStation Showcase, Konami officially announced and unveiled Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater – a remake of the Kojima directed PS2 classic. Aside from the initial announcement trailer, we have seen little from the game. That said, it seems as though the MGS3 remake is planned to arrive some time this year.

As part of a promotional trailer released by Sony detailing the PS5’s upcoming 2024 output, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater was listed, seemingly suggesting that the title is currently planned to launch some time in 2024.

MGS wasn’t the only Konami game to get a release window however, as the same trailer also highlighted Silent Hill 2’s Remake as having a 2024 release. Unlike MGS however, the team behind the Silent Hill 2 Remake have claimed for months now that the game was nearing completion.

Of course, until we get a concrete release date, the listed release windows should be taken with a pinch of salt. That said, it would be quite exciting to have two of Konami’s biggest franchises return in the same year. We will have to wait and see.

The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1 has arrived and fans are already datamining to discover what's next for the franchise. This year, Konami officially unveiled the new remaster collection, containing the first half of the Metal Gear series for modern platforms, as well as a remake for Metal Gear Solid 3. Now, it also looks like fans can expect an additional Metal Gear Solid Master Collection.

After scrolling through lines of code within the game files, Metal Gear fans found references to Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid 5 and former PSP exclusive, Peace Walker. This seems to suggest exactly what we began expecting months ago – a Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 2 is on the way.

The biggest part of this collection will undoubtedly be Metal Gear Solid 4 finally becoming available on other platforms. The game launched as a PS3 exclusive and due to the Xbox 360's lack of blu-ray drive, an Xbox version was never made. The game has also never made its way to PC, so this will give a lot of fans a chance to try the game for the very first time.

Of course, we'd also expect to see MGS 5, its standalone prequel, Ground Zeroes, as well as a further updated version of Peace Walker, which initially released as a PSP game before making its way to Xbox and PlayStation home consoles via the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.

We wouldn't be doing our jobs properly if we didn't temper expectations though. The Master Collection Vol 1 has a number of issues, including locked frame rates and resolutions in some cases. This can be fixed on PC through mods but other systems will have to live with the quality settings Konami has opted for. As reported by Eurogamer, developers have already identified a number of issues to address with the collection in future patches.

KitGuru Says: Seeing MGS 4 on other platforms after all these years would be something. As long as the game isn't held back by arbitrary resolution and frame rate locks on PC, it should be well received.

After taking a lengthy break from the video games industry following Hideo Kojima’s departure from publisher Konami, the Metal Gear series is finally once again returning to the limelight with current-gen ports of the classic MGS games alongside an in-development remake of the iconic Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Ahead of these releases, Konami has offered updated sales figures for many of its franchises, revealing that the Metal Gear series has sold over 60 million copies.

As discovered by ResetEra user ‘Bishop89’ Konami Group Corporation recently released their latest Digital Entertainment Business report focused on the publisher’s future plans for gaming – including the utilisation of “new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI,) fifth and sixth generation mobile communications (5G/6G,) virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR,) non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and the metaverse.”

Much more excitingly, the publisher offered updated sales figures for many of its franchises, revealing that the much-loved Metal Gear series has sold over 60 million copies.

While the franchise has existed for more than 35 years, there have been a surprisingly small number of releases during this time, with there only being 6 mainline MGS titles released in this period.

As mentioned, there has not been a new mainline game in the series since all the way back in 2015 with MGS V: The Phantom Pain – with the only other MGS title released since then being the critically panned Metal Gear Survive spin-off (released in 2018).

With The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 set to launch in October of this year, and a remake of MGS 3: Snake Eater confirmed to be in development, it will be interesting to see how the franchise performs moving forward without Kojima’s involvement. We will have to wait and see.

Konami recently announced Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, which includes remastered versions of the first three games in the Metal Gear Solid series. Konami has now detailed what other content is in this collection, which will feature a variety of written material, graphic novels, a soundtrack, and the first two Metal Gear games.

One notable inclusion is Metal Gear 2: Snake's Revenge. This decision is interesting because it disregards series creator Hideo Kojima's involvement. Snake's Revenge was a sequel to Kojima's original Metal Gear but was developed without his participation. Kojima went on to regain control of the series and created the highly regarded Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, which completely ignored Snake's Revenge.

There are concerns among fans that the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection may suffer from similar issues as the Silent Hill HD collection, which featured subpar ports without significant quality-of-life improvements. For example, it is disappointing that Metal Gear Solid will remain in a 4:3 aspect ratio, considering its importance in gaming history.

Despite these concerns, the collection offers a substantial amount of content, including Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid (including VR and Special Missions), Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (HD Collection version), Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (HD Collection version), Metal Gear (NES/Famicom version), and Snake's Revenge.

The collection will also include two graphic novels covering the stories of Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 and newly written material, including the Screenplay Book and Master Book, containing artwork, character bios, and story descriptions for each title. Moreover, it comes with the digital soundtrack of Metal Gear Solid, and pre-orders will receive newly recorded versions of some of the series' iconic themes, including “Snake Eater”.

On another note, it has been mentioned that the Master Collection will not support keyboard and mouse. The Steam page for the game briefly appeared with a notice stating the lack of keyboard and mouse support, but it has since been taken down. Considering the previous PC ports of MGS and MGS2 did support these inputs, the lack of support doesn't make sense. Metal Gear Solid Vol. 1 Master Collection is coming out on October 24th for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will also be available as stand-alone digital titles on the collection's release date.

One of the biggest surprises at the PlayStation Showcase was the announcement of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater – a remake of the iconic PS2 game from Hideo Kojima. At the time, few details were shared, though in the days since we have gotten an influx of new information regarding this much-anticipated title. We now know that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will use the original game’s audio lines.

As reported by The Verge, Konami’s head of communications ‘Tommy Williams’ confirmed to the publication that Metal Gear Solid Delta will “reuse the voice lines from the original game with no changes.”

Quickly following the official announcement of the remake, Konami stated that MGS Delta would “star the original voice characters” adding that “story and character voices” would “remain the same from the original game.”

This led to some confusion as to whether all the voice actors would be returning to re-record their lines or whether the remake would simply reuse the original audio. We now know that it is the latter.

For a game as precious to so many as Metal Gear Solid 3, it is comforting to know that at least one aspect of the game will remain exactly as it was with the 2004 original. Hopefully we learn even more about Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater soon.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this decision? Are you excited for the remake? How should they approach remaking this game? Let us know your thoughts down below.

One of the biggest surprises at the PlayStation Showcase was the announcement of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater – a remake of the iconic PS2 game from Hideo Kojima. That said, all we have seen so far is a CG teaser trailer offering little in the way of information. Fortunately, the developers have now come out to answer many of the fans’ most pertinent questions.

In an interview conducted by IGN, the publication spoke to the Konami devs behind Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. One of the first questions asked was whether Kojima is involved in the project. Unsurprisingly, the team confirmed that he is not. Likewise, series artist Yoji Shinkawa will not return for this remake.

No specific studio was named as being responsible for the remake, leading fans to wonder who is actually involved in this project. Asking this very question, the team responded to IGN claiming that the central role has been handed to internal Konami developers who have been “involved in the production of the past [games in the] Metal Gear series” – with Virtuos assisting development.

When asked about the remake’s name change, a spokesperson stated “The Delta symbol (Δ) was chosen because its meaning fits the concept of the remake project. Delta is a character from the Greek alphabet that means ‘change’ or ‘difference’ in mathematics and variables, and also has the meaning of changing an amount without changing the structure.”

Based on what has been said it seems as though Konami are going for a faithful remake of MGS3, not wanting to mess with Kojima’s work. Hopefully we get to see actual gameplay sooner rather than later.

Earlier this week, a report claimed that Metal Gear Solid 3 is getting a multi-platform remake, seemingly putting an end to rumours of it being a PS5 exclusive. Now, additional sources have come forward to corroborate this claim.

According to Insider Gaming's sources, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is getting a remake and while it will supposedly be announced at Sony's upcoming PlayStation showcase with a small teaser trailer, it won't be an exclusive game. It is claimed that the game will also be coming to Xbox Series X/S consoles, as well as PC (via Steam). Now, sources speaking with Windows Central have made the same claims, adding fuel to the fire.

This is the latest in a long saga of Konami leaks. Back in 2021, VGC reported that Konami was reviving the Metal Gear, Castlevania and Silent Hill franchises. We already know that this was true for Silent Hill, which now has multiple new games and remakes in the works, both at Konami's own studios and third-party partners. VGC has also previously suggested that the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake is being developed by Virtuos, a studio that has previously supported projects like Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West.

If these latest rumours about Metal Gear Solid 3 are accurate, the game will be revealed later this evening, as the PlayStation Showcase is set to go live at 9PM BST.

Over the last couple of years, Apple has been working with select game developers to bring games over to the Mac, optimised for the new M-series SoCs powered by Apple's new GPU technology. Previously, we've seen games like Resident Evil Village and No Man's Sky revealed running on M-series Macs at WWDC. This year, Apple may have plans to showcase another big game running on Mac at WWDC this year, as Hideo Kojima has recently spotted at Apple Campus.

Hideo Kojima is a legendary game developer, well known for his time at Konami working on the Metal Gear franchise. Nowadays, Kojima runs his own studio, Kojima Productions, working on titles like Death Stranding. Right now, the studio has a number of secret projects in the works, including one cloud-oriented project with Xbox.

According to Bloomberg's Apple reporter, Mark Gurman, Kojima was recently spotted at Apple Campus, indicating that he's working with the company in some form, or at the very least, in discussions with Apple about a project. This could result in something like a Mac port for Death Stranding, leveraging Apple's new M-series SoC and accompanying graphics APIs.

Alternatively, it could have something to do with Apple's VR plans. The company has been working on its first VR headset for years and rumour has it that Apple will announce its first headset at WWDC next month. Kojima could potentially be part of the plan, but it is worth noting that Kojima himself has previously expressed difficulties getting into VR and has publicly confirmed that he had cancelled a VR project in the past due to suffering from motion sickness.

KitGuru Says: My money here is on a Death Stranding port for Mac, or perhaps an ambitious mobile game. However, considering Kojima's documented struggles getting into VR, Apple may also be lining up to make a statement with its headset reveal with bold claims of eliminating motion sickness.

Just yesterday we reported that a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is supposedly in the works at Konami, with plans for its reveal to be shown at E3. Now, the very same leaker has returned with slightly more information on this yet-to-be-announced title, claiming that the Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake will be released next year.

Industry insider Andy Robinson of VGC recently claimed that after years away from the industry, Konami is set to make a grand return this E3, with the publisher reportedly having multiple exciting projects in the works, including a brand new Castlevania game and a full remake of the PlayStation 2 Classic Metal Gear Solid 3.

Unfortunately, it seems as though E3 may not go ahead after all due to many publishers and partners pulling out of the expo. Luckily, according to Robinson, regardless of the state of E3, Konami has plans to unveil the much-desired remake this summer, with the insider offering a bit more information on the rumoured remake, saying:

“MGS3 remake is now a 2024 title and there's still talk of MGS re-releases of some kind. E3 window was their marketing plan, last I heard.”

From the wording, it seems as though the MGS3 remake was planned to come out sometime this year and has since been internally pushed back a bit. Still, this news is highly exciting indeed, especially as there has been no official word on this illusive remake – meaning the upcoming announcement could have shown off a game still very early in development.

With MGS3 supposedly set to come out next year, hopefully the official announcement offers much more than a simple tease or cinematic, but shows off actual gameplay. We won’t have too long to wait in order to find out.

So far, the publisher has focused on bringing many of its old 2D classics to modern systems such as was the case with the Castlevania Collection. Rather excitingly however, it seems as though the company may soon be set to unveil their most ambitious remaster/remake yet.

As reported by industry insider Andy Robinson via the VGC podcast, it was claimed that publisher Konami is set to have a “pretty big E3” thanks to the return of some much-loved classic franchises.

According to Robinson, two of the biggest announcements planned for the June event include a brand new Castlevania title, saying “There's a new Castlevania in addition to the Dead Cells DLC they announced at The Game Awards”. No further details were shared, meaning the title in question could take the form of a classic-styled 2D entry, or we could see Konami take another stab at making a 3D Castlevania.

For some, the most exciting report came in the claim that “there's this much discussed Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, which I also expect them to finally show”. Again, no further details were shared, but we have heard many murmurs over the years surrounding the notion of a remake for Metal Gear Solid 3.

The MGS series has been inextricably tied to its creator Hideo Kojima and so while not a new entry, it will be interesting to see what approach is taken with this remake considering the bad blood between Konami and Kojima.

Furthermore, remakes can take many forms, from one-to-one recreations such as we have seen with the likes of Demon’s Souls and The Last of Us Part 1, to remakes which lean much closer to reimaginings (such as Final Fantasy VII Remake). Regardless of which approach is taken, it is safe to say that Metal Gear Solid fans have been woefully underfed in recent years, and so a new entry in any form is certainly exciting.

In recent years we have seen many film and TV adaptations of games come out from development hell, with the Uncharted film releasing to commercial success, and production on HBO’s The Last of Us going smoothly. Unfortunately, the Oscar Isaac-led Metal Gear Solid film is stuck in limbo.

The history of the Metal Gear Solid film can be traced all the way back to 2006, when it was first announced. Of course, since then the film has been canceled, uncancelled and had half a dozen directors and actors interested in being involved. After more than a decade of flux, the producers had settled on a writer (Jay Basu), director (Vogt-Roberts) and main lead (Oscar Isaac).

7 years on from the hiring of Jay Basu, and 8 years since the director was chosen, we have yet to see anything from the MGS movie. In a recent interview conducted by IGN, Oscar Isaac was asked about the current status of the Metal Gear Solid film, to which he responded:

“We’re searching, we’re searching like Solid Snake. We’re climbing through air ducts, we’re looking for the story.”

The story of the Metal Gear Solid franchise is a long and complicated one, which does not lend itself well to film. Still, it is encouraging to see the team eager to continue to work on the project. Hopefully the creatives manage to find some inspiration.

There has been a lot of discussion around Konami in recent months, with many sources claiming that the publisher is going to revive some beloved franchises. According to new reports this week, we're set for new Metal Gear, Castlevania and Silent Hill games.

Silent Hill has been at the centre of most of these leaks, but according to VGC's sources, Metal Gear and Castlevania are also getting some much needed attention. Apparently, a Metal Gear revival is being worked on by Virtuos, a studio primarily known for offering supporting development duties for Triple A games and remasters. The game involves Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater somehow, but whether its a remake, a reimagining or a new entry set around the same time as that game still remains to be seen.

Metal Gear remasters will also be coming as part of Konami's push to bring the series back to the forefront.

Aside from Metal Gear, Konami has also apparently greenlit a “reimagining” of Castlevania, which is being worked on internally at Konami's Japan studio, with support from external studios. Lastly, there are also said to be ‘multiple' Silent Hill games in the works, with one of them being outsourced to a Japanese studio.

KitGuru Says: As exciting as these revivals could be, many of them are going ahead without the original creators involved, which is going to lead to plenty of scepticism.

Following on from the release of the Shadow of the Colossus remake in 2018, many fans speculated as to what franchise Bluepoint Games would remake next. The two frontrunners were Demon’s Souls and Metal Gear Solid. We now know that Bluepoint Games was working on the former. That being said, a new rumour has surfaced claiming that the team have also been working on a Metal Gear Solid Remake for the PlayStation 5.

In a video by YouTuber ‘Moore’s Law is Dead’, the tech analyst revealed that Bluepoint Games is allegedly working on a remake of the first entry in the Metal Gear Solid series.

According to ‘Moore’s Law is Dead’, who previously reported on God of War Ragnarok and its release year prior to the official announcement, the remake has allegedly been in development for three years, with Mark Cerny involved to some capacity – meaning that it was being developed concurrently with Demon’s Souls. Furthermore, it is said to feature similar controls to that of the most recent mainline entry, Metal Gear Solid V, which was lauded for its gameplay.

While this should all be taken with a pinch of salt, an interesting easter egg was discovered within the Demon’s Souls remake, where a soundbite plays in The Nexus, which many fans claim sounds like Metal Gear Rex from MGS. Prior to the announcement of the Demon’s Souls Remake, Bluepoint Games also teased the possibility of a Metal Gear Solid remake in a cryptic tweet.

Of course, this may all simply be confirmation bias on the part of the fans. That being said, where there’s smoke there’s fire, and so hopefully this rumour does indeed end up being true. Time will tell.

Konami isn't nearly as active in the video game space as it used to be, but there are still signs of life from the publisher. This week, it was announced that Konami has teamed up with GOG to bring several classic games to PC digitally, including the original Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania and Contra.

Starting off with Kojima's classic Metal Gear series, starting today, the 1987 Metal Gear, its better known sequel, Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance are all available via GOG. As usual, the GOG team has worked to ensure these games work on modern PC hardware and operating systems.

All of the Metal Gear titles are available separately, but joining them is the Konami Collector's Series, a bundle of five games including; Castlevania, Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest, Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse, Contra and Super C.

Unfortunately, Metal Gear Solid 3 is not making its way over to PC yet, sticking with Metal Gear Solid 4 as a PlayStation exclusive. Perhaps one day that status will change and the full Metal Gear story line will be playable on one platform.

KitGuru Says: Are many of you fans of the original Metal Gear games? Are you going to be picking up the newly available GOG versions?

Though the last few years has seen Konami shy away from the video game industry, the publisher appears to slowly but surely be working its way back in. Amid rumours of the return of its various dormant IP, Konami has now opened a Spotify account, allowing fans to finally listen to many of the publisher’s iconic soundtracks from games such as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

Announcing the news on Twitter, Konami Europe stated that “We know how much you all love the soundtracks to our games, so we’ve put them all in one place! Introducing the KONAMI Europe @Spotify account! Follow us to keep up-to-date as we add new playlists and old favourites – starting with #Castlevania!”

Currently, the account features the original soundtracks for a dozen Castelvania games, including the much-loved Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Konami are also responsible for a number of other iconic franchises, including the Metal Gear Solid series and of course Silent Hill, just to name a few – though these have yet to be added.

While some of the publisher’s previous soundtracks have found their way onto the service, it would appear as though Konami is now making a concerted effort to make its backlog of classic OSTs available for a wider audience to appreciate.

Despite the prominence of music streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music, video game soundtracks are often absent from them – save for a number of fan covers. Hopefully this move by Konami indicates that the company is ready to once again leverage its IP and bring back a number of beloved franchises.

Voice actor Cam Clarke celebrated the 20th anniversary of Metal Gear Solid back in October, by reviving Liquid Snake for a special Halloween poem. With Christmas just around the corner, Clarke continued his newfound holiday tradition by bringing David Hayter’s Solid Snake along for the ride, reading “The Night Before Christmas” with a unique Metal Gear twist.

Hayter’s iconic gravelled voice has been missing since 2010, with Hideo Kojima unceremoniously replacing him with Kiefer Sutherland in Metal Gear Solid V. The Snake saga also came to a similar bitter end since the release of The Phantom Pain in 2015, after mounting tension saw Kojima ousted from Konami.

The Night Before Metal Gear sees both Snakes back in action, bringing with them the signature melodrama that the series is known for. The six minutes of nostalgia trudges through Metal Gear’s history, making mention of Skull Face and the Cobra Unit before diving into the battle between the Twin Snakes.

The project was conceived by Clarke late in November, with Hayter supposedly crafting the parody within 20 minutes. We also have reason to believe that he procured the pen on-site.

KitGuru Says: Fortunately, I was lucky enough to receive a greeting from Hayter during his time at Manchester Comic Con 2017, meaning it hasn’t been too long of a wait for me to see the legend back in action. Still, this timeless reading can be enjoyed time and time again. Have you missed Hayter and Clarke’s presence in Metal Gear Solid?

Despite arguably being a masterpiece, Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid hasn’t aged well since its original 1998 release. Fortunately, ex-Crytek designer has given the world a glimpse at what it might look like with modern day graphics, remaking the opening scene using Unreal Engine 4.

Opening with a shot underneath the Bering Sea in Alaska, fans of Metal Gear Solid are sure to get a tingle of nostalgia seeing the submarine Discovery whoosh by to the sound of dramatic, overbearing music. This particularly kicks in with the sound of Paul Eiding’s Colonel Roy Campbell briefing our beloved Solid Snake on his mission within Shadow Moses Island, as the titular character embarks in an SDV (Swimmer Delivery Vehicle) subtly emblazoned with creator Hideo Kojima’s name on the front.

Taking his experience as an art director on Crysis, Ryse and even Star Citizen, Erasmus Brosdau realised a passion of his by recreating the opening scene to Metal Gear Solid in glorious 4K resolution. Utilising Unreal Engine 4, Brosdau places a disclaimer on the description of the video, altering people that some assets from the marketplace were used, alongside remastering some of the audio and tweaking the shots used.

This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen Metal Gear Solid get the Unreal Engine 4 treatment, as a fan remake known as Shadow Moses was in the works. Sadly, this was cancelled with no public reason announced, although its believed that Konami interfered with the project. Although this cinematic doesn’t house any gameplay, it could suffer the same fate due to its use of licensed logos and audio.

Fortunately, Silicon Knights did produce a remake of its own in 2004, exclusively for the GameCube. Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes features the same engine used for Metal Gear Solid 2, with updated mechanics and cutscenes. Sadly, this itself is also quite dated and is often criticised for its over-the-top action sequences and poor re-recorded dialogue.

KitGuru Says: Those that enjoyed this opening cutscene can still look forward to Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ live action film adaptation, although the MGS movie has been under way for quite some time with no announced time frame as of yet.

When you hear the term ‘video-game movie’, many are still likely to cower at the idea, especially when blockbusters such as Warcraft and Assassin's Creed fail to please. Metal Gear Solid was pegged to get the silver screen adaptation way back in 2006, and while it has experienced hell during development, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has shed light that the movie will finally be picking up its writer.

While no longer housing the rumoured A-list actors it once had a decade ago, the movie iteration of Metal Gear Solid has the backing of Sony Pictures and director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Vogt-Roberts might not have an extensive credits list, but his directorial debut The Kings of Summer was met with critical praise back when it released in 2013. Although this is a coming-of-age drama and not exactly the style you would expect to translate to tactical espionage action, he has since developed his taste for action with Kong: Skull Island and even the most recent Destiny 2 trailer.

Vogt-Roberts took to Eurogamer to shed some light on the future of the MGS movie, stating that the “video games [he’s] played are as influential to [him] as films.” Hopefully this means that the series is in good hands, even if it isn't in Kojima's.

“We're about to hire a new writer on Metal Gear,” Vogts-Roberts says. “It's probably the most complicated property on the planet. The reasons people love that franchise are – well, you need to run towards those reasons as opposed to away from them.”

He's referring to the sheer complexity of the story, which blends creator, Hideo Kojima’s love for 80’s Hollywood action movies with the unique quirkiness of Japanese animation, particularly with its focus around mechs. Getting this across in a movie made for Western audiences is especially tricky, however Vogt-Roberts isn’t ignorant to that fact, wanting to balance what the studio wants with what fans want.

The movie is still very early in development, lacking a leading actor however Vogt-Roberts’ priority isn’t to cast a star, but “who’s best for the role.” Getting a face to fit the one above would be a task in itself.

For those worried about the split between Konami and Kojima, Vogt-Roberts is handling things with care and seemingly with the latter’s help. “Regardless of their split – Kojima and I have become friends and colleagues, and it's important to me to shepherd something that he'd be proud of,” says Vogt-Roberts. “It's Kojima's voice and the voice of his colleagues and artists and designers, and I'll always be trying to service that.” Interestingly, the director explains that one game in particular won’t be the focus of the movie's plot, but a mixture of a few held together with a “device” that is “very Kojima in its approach.”

KitGuru Says: I believe that many downfalls of movies, even outside of video game adaptations, is the studio’s obsession with pegging an A-list star rather than talent that truly fits the character. I still don’t hold high hopes for it due to video-game movie history but the fan in me is screaming out for it to be good. What are your thoughts on the adaptation? Who would you like to see play the lead role of Snake?

If you're trying to get support for your fan-project, a thumbs up from the original developers is a good one, perhaps the main designer could give you their approval to proceed. In the case of the Metal Gear Solid VR tribute though, they got the jackpot: David Hayter, the voice of Solid Snake himself, is involved.

fansnake

The team behind the project previously announced Shadow Moses, a Unreal Engine 4 built remake of the original Metal Gear Solid, called Shadow Moses. Of course Konami waded in and shut it down before it could really get off the ground, but developers weren't too saddened it seems, as they have a new project in the works, designed instead as a tribute to the series.

Funnily enough, it uses some of the assets created for Shadow Moses.

The virtual reality title, called: The Fan Legacy: Metal Gear Solid, will let players take a close up look at some of the series' most iconic locations, as well as fan art. We're assuming too that Hayter's involvement will see him lend his voice to the experience, though whether he would introduce segments, or provide voice over to reminisce about famous lines from the series is anyone's guess.

https://www.facebook.com/ShadowMosesUnreal/videos/1287661324582642/

Regardless, the creators are making a big point of stating that this is a fan-project, one that is non-profit – they want to remove any excuse Konami might have for shutting it down. Which considering how they were treated by Konami before, you can understand.

Development on this one should be pretty swift, as PCGN has it that the experience is set for a May release if all goes to plan.

To say Hideo Kojima is a popular game developer would be an understatement. With his name attached to some people's most beloved titles from gaming history and considering his poor treatment at the hands of Konami in recent months, people like him a lot. So it will be interesting to see how popular his upcoming “HideoTube” program is when it's made available.

The long time Metal Gear Solid director teased the show in a tweet with a screengrab from an episode which doesn't tell us much, but shows a sitting Kojima along with a Hideo Tube logo. He also appears to be wearing a T-Shirt sporting the logo of his company, Kojima Productions.

As a follow up, Kojima's assistant Ayako Terashima, posted a photo of him checking the video over at an airport and even put the call out for people to volunteer as translators to add English subtitles to the video.

Although the content of the show is unknown, several other tweets from Kojima could be hinting at what it will cover. Kojima currently seems to be travelling a lot, visiting Bend studios in one instance, but it's a follow up tweet that might hint at the main content of the show.

It's also worth considering that this won't be Kojima's first show. Back when he had a better relationship with Konami, his studio would put out a show called Kojima Station once a week. Presumably any sort of new show will build off of that.

Hideo Kojima's unceremonious end to his three decade career at Konami is a big deal, as it means that for the first time in his career, he'll be making a game without the people that helped make the Metal Gear series so iconic. But not so fast. Some of those people have come with him, including Metal Gear Solid artist Yoji Shinkawa and series producer Ken Imaizumi, both of whom have now joined his new studio.

Kojima has been quite light on what the new game his company is working on will actually be about, but said in an interview with IGN that he expected it to be more “edgy” than previous work he had done and that it will have a more agile development than he's had with previous games. He also mentioned “mechs,” so we know giant robots will feature in it somewhere.

kojimaproductions

He confirmed in that same chat that Shinkawa would be handling artistic aspects of the new game like characters, concepts and backgrounds and that once the game had helped the new studio build an established IP, it would look to take it in new directions like “movies and videos.”

It will be a smaller game than we're used to seeing him making, but that's not hugely surprising. Even with the backing of Sony and support to make sure that the eventual game ends up on the PS4 before anywhere else, Kojima Productions will not have the budget of Konami – though Kojima seems likely to enjoy the freedom of his own studio over his previous employer, more than he ever did the additional funding.

KitGuru Says: Kojima certainly has enough of a pedigree and enough of a name to get a lot of attention on any new game he makes. It will need to be good though, or that good will could start to dry up.

Yesterday was Metal Gear Solid creator, Hideo Kojima's last day with Konami. The long-time developer has finally moved on from the place that shunned him in his final months at the developer/publisher and now heads up his own company, called Kojima productions. Confirming yesterday's rumours too is Sony, which released a video showcasing how it had now partnered with Kojima's studio.

Andrew House can't wait to get him to sign his copy of MGS2

Kojima of course makes an appearance in the video, agreeing that the news of his starting a new studio and joining with Sony for its first game is an exciting event. It will be a PS4 console exclusive we're told, though whether that means it will only appear on the PS4, or on the PS4 and the PC, remains to be seen.

kojimaproductions

It's also said that the new game will be part of a “new franchise,” so if all goes well we may see a number of games in the same series built for the PlayStation platform by Kojima's new company. Details on what the game will be about are almost non-existent, other than the usual rhetoric that it will be new and innovative and exciting (thanks Kotaku).

The saga of Kojima's fall from grace and leaving Konami has been a long winded and bizarre one. That man was a treasure to the Japanese company for years, having built some of its most popular titles as part of the Metal Gear Solid universe. He ultimately worked there for over three decades and yet at the tail end Konami removed his name from game packaging for Metal Gear Solid V and even barred him from accepting awards that the game won.

KitGuru Says: Hopefully Kojima can enjoy working with a new company and new publishers in an environment where his pedigree and skillset are more appreciated.

Konami has been trying its best to silence Kojima and not offer any confirmation as to what is going on between the two. The company even went as far as to say that Kojima was merely ‘on vacation' recently but that illusion was shattered last night when Geoff Keighley revealed that while Kojima had planned on attending the Game Awards, Konami's lawyers stopped him in his tracks.

Metal Gear Solid V won the 2015 award for best action/adventure game, and Big Boss voice actor, Kiefer Sutherland accepted the award on Kojima's behalf, following which, Geoff Keighley decided to break the silence and just give us the truth that Konami has trying to keep hidden. You can hear what he had to say between 0:56 and 1:59 on this video captured by Kotaku. Alternatively, you can read what was said below.

Kojima award

“As you noticed Hideo Kojima is not here with us tonight, and I want to tell you a little bit about that, Mr. Kojima had every intention of being with us tonight but unfortunately he was informed by a lawyer representing Konami just recently that he would not be allowed to travel to tonight's awards ceremony to accept any awards. He's still under an employment contract, and it's disappointing, and it's inconceivable to me that an artist like Hideo would not be allowed to come here and celebrate with his peers and his fellow teammates.”

From the sounds of it, due to Kojima's employment contract with Konami, which doesn't officially run out until later this month according to previous rumours, the famed game designer was not allowed to travel out of Japan to attend the show.

KitGuru Says: Sony also held a PlayStation awards show earlier this week in Japan, at which Kojima also wasn't allowed to accept an award for MGS:V, instead Konami's head of PR accepted the award so at this point it seems that the bosses at Konami are just being spiteful, despite the fact that the game went on to sell millions of copies.

Konami is something of an enigma, sometimes it almost seems as if the company doesn't want to sell games at all. This week is an exciting time for Metal Gear Solid fans, after the final chapter in the long-running series released on Monday. So as with any big game launch, fan art started popping up, unfortunately, it seems that Konami doesn't appreciate its more creative fans, as it issued a DMCA notice for a fan image found on Twitter.

The fan art likely caught the attention of Konami after Hideo Kojima retweeted it. As a result of the copyright claim, Twitter has removed the image from public view, though you can still see the original tweet itself.

Twitter DMCA

Copyright claims against fan art is pretty rare, usually publishers and developers are happy to see fans of a series produce something creative. However, as we have learned over the last few months, Konami is far from being a normal games publisher.

In other news, Konami is also failing to properly update people on Metal Gear Solid V server issues. The company is currently only pushing updates to its Japanese social media channels, neglecting its US and UK accounts entirely.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is set to release on the PC on the 1st of September, after having its release date brought forward by two weeks. While most game publishers have caught on to the fact that pre-loading is generally quite helpful, especially for those who pre-order games, Konami hasn't entirely caught on yet, so there won't be any pre-loading for MGS V … officially.

You might be able to download the game before September 1st depending on your time zone. Metal Gear Solid Community Manager, Robert Peeler put out a series of confusing tweets but Rock Paper Shotgun thinks they have it all figured out.

MGSV-Steam-Box

On Twitter, Peeler said that those who pre-ordered Metal Gear Solid V will be able to start their downloads as soon as the 1st of September hits in New Zealand. Here in the UK, that means we should be able to start our downloads at 1PM on the 31st of August. That's the theory anyway, we won't know for sure until the time comes and we can all test it for ourselves.

This would mean that those in the US would also get to jump on the download pretty early on the 31st of August. One thing to keep in mind though are the day one driver updates from Nvidia, as this is an Nvidia supported title. That update could include a nice performance boost for the game.

Now this isn't uncommon. Time zone trickery has been used in the past to unlock games slightly ahead of time in parts of the world. You might even need a VPN to pull this off. The file will be 28GB in size so if you have a slower connection, then this may be worth keeping an eye on.

KitGuru Says: Peeler's wording on Twitter was confusing, so it is possible that RPS interpreted it all wrong. Either way, if you were hoping to install Metal Gear Solid V a little early, you might be able to, we won't know for sure until the 31st of August rolls around.

It has been a weird few months for Konami and Hideo Kojima. We still don't know the full story but what we do know is that Kojima and the Konami bosses have had a falling out of sorts, resulting in the cancellation of Silent Hills and the removal of Kojima's name from promotional material for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid game.

Now the voice actor for Solid Snake, Akio Otsuka, has confirmed that Kojima Productions has already closed its doors: “Kojima Productions was forced to disband, but it appears that the work that the team has been putting their utmost effort into is nearly complete”, the voice actor said on Twitter (translated by Gematsu) .

“I’m not exaggerating when I say that I expect it will become their greatest masterpiece. I couldn’t help it. I just wanted to say ‘Kept you waiting, huh?' (Laughs.) But even if this is the end, Metal Gear Solid is immortal!”

Kojima Productions has been the studio responsible for several great games but most notably, the Metal Gear franchise as a whole. Unfortunately, Metal Gear Solid V will be the studio's final game, although we will see Kojima himself go on to other projects eventually.

Metal Gear Solid V launches in September on the Xbox One , PS4 and the PC. Versions for the last generation consoles are also in the works.

Rumors began flaring up yesterday suggesting that Metal Gear series creator, Hideo Kojima, would be leaving Konami following the release of Metal Gear Solid V. Kojima also recently said that this would be his last Metal Gear game but it looks like Konami wants to continue the franchise without him.

Rumors of Kojima's exit followed the removal of his name from all Metal Gear Solid V and Ground Zeroes marketing materials. His name was also missing from the updated list of executives working at Konami. It seems that Kojima Productions and Konami have had a falling out, according to Gamespot.

So far, Konami has failed to set these rumors straight and has instead given short, vague statements like: “Konami Digital Entertainment, including Mr. Kojima, will continue to develop and support Metal Gear products. Please look forward to future announcements.”

The branding changes could be part of a restructuring effort, with the aim of making Konami's name more prominent on its games, rather than individual studios, like Kojima Productions.

KitGuru Says: So far, we don't really have any confirmation as to what exactly is going on at Konami, or what these means for the future of the Metal Gear series, but it looks like Kojima has left or is leaving Konami this year.

Rumor has it that a new Metal Gear Online will be revealed next week at the Video Games Awards Show. According to the show's producer and presenter, Geoff Keighley, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima will star at the show set for next Friday on the 5th of September.

This isn't the first hint we've had about a potential game reveal set for the awards show next week, Keighley has also been meeting with Bethesda, sparking rumors of a potential Fallout 4 announcement, which would follow the same pre-release schedule as Skyrim. Metal Gear Online started out as a part of Metal Gear Solid 3, before becoming a complete experience in Metal Gear Solid 4.

The original Metal Gear Online shut down in June 2012. Earlier this year during an interview with CVG, Kojima did say that Metal Gear Online was in development at the Kojima Productions LA studio, in partnership with the main Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain development studio in Japan.
