The Souls-like Lords of the Fallen has already sold over one million copies in its first 10 days on the market. Considering the mild reception it got, that's quite an achievement.

The milestone was shared on social media and via a press release, which was accompanied by a “thank you” message. Surprisingly enough, Lords of the Fallen was faster to hit the 1 million mark than Lies of P, which was generally better received than the Hexworks Souls-like title.

Despite strong sales, the game did not get a warm welcome, sitting at a 73 OpenCritic score (59% recommended) and a “mixed” rating on Steam (58%). On top of the performance issues and bugs, many reviewers were quick to point out how unfair the game is thanks to its difficulty spikes and player invasions.

Fortunately, the developer has been working on some of these issues, with new patches coming almost daily. The latest update re-enabled cross-platform play, while a patch due out on Thursday will bring PC support. Critically, the next patch will improve adversary density, one of the issues many reviewers have been pointing out to make the game more frustrating than it should be.

The PS5 has reached a new sales milestone, with Sony confirming that over 40 million units of the new-gen console have been sold. It didn't reach this milestone as quickly as the PS4, but that can primarily be chalked up to significant supply issues during the console's first two years on the market.

While at one point it was almost impossible to get your hands on a PS5 at retail price, nowadays, if you really want to pick one up, getting one at a fair price is not difficult and the system is regularly in stock at retailers. We are expecting to see a sales boost this year too, as Sony is reportedly planning a limited-time price cut of roughly £75, which will surely boost sales in time for Insomniac's next major game, Spider-Man 2, which is due to arrive in October.

The PlayStation 5's milestone follows a recent bout of strong sales in Europe. In June, PS5 sales in the continent had increased by 116 percent compared to June 2022, as reported by GI.biz. Sony hit 30 million PS5 sales in January this year, so there have been an additional 10 million sales since then.

The PS5 has had a strong exclusives line-up during its first three years in the market. In 2021, we saw games like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Returnal, followed up by Horizon: Forbidden West and God of War: Ragnarok in 2022. This year, PS5 owners have had Final Fantasy 16 and Spider-Man 2 to look forward to.

KitGuru Says: If Sony can keep up its current momentum, with a couple of major exclusives each year, then the PS5 will continue to climb rapidly in sales charts.

Hot Wheels Unleashed is Milestone's most successful release. A year and a half since its introduction, the game sold over 2 million copies and was played by more than 8 million players worldwide.

Based on the latest statistics shared by Milestone, the studio behind the game, Hot Wheels Unleashed has sold over 2 million copies globally and has over 8 million registered gamers on all the platforms where the game is available. The latter figure comes from the game being free to Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus subscribers. According to the data posted, users have played the game for about 939 years worth of time.

The action-packed arcade-style racing game is accessible but hard to master. It enables Hot Wheels enthusiasts to drift, boost, leap, and crash while picking from 60+ cars and six distinct landscapes. Among all vehicle categories, the Hot Wheels Twin Mill 2021 is the most popular, appearing in almost 20% of all races.

Two aspects of Hot Wheels Unleashed enable players to show their creativity. The Livery Editor allows fans to personalise the appearance of their favourite vehicles by adding colours and shapes to Hot Wheels Originals and real manufacturer vehicles. More than one million liveries have been made, with a peak of over 20,000 submissions in a single day. The other is Track Builder, aimed towards gamers who wish to take control of the distinctive orange track and create their own circuits. Up to now, over 350,000 unique courses have been designed.

Ahead of its launch, Cyberpunk 2077 had millions of pre-orders and within two week's of the game's launch, around 13 million copies had been sold. Of course, that was before we all learned how bad the launch version was. This caused Cyberpunk 2077 sales to slow quite a bit in 2021, to the point where CD Projekt stopped sharing figures. That has now changed with the game's recent surge of popularity.

Thanks to the next-gen console launch, additional patches, free DLC and a hit anime series, Cyberpunk 2077 has now surpassed 20 million copies sold. That number will likely rise once again as we head towards the holiday season.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in the best place it has ever been. The anime series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, has given many a new appreciation for Night City and its setting. Many have also returned to the game after its 1.6 patch to see all of the improvements.

CD Projekt Red is not done with Cyberpunk 2077 though, the team is now working on new systems, including a complete revamp of the in-game police system. The team is also working on the first major expansion for the game, which is due to release for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5 in 2023.

During its launch week, the excellent Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak expansion surpassed 2 million copies cold, with Monster Hunter Rise also surpassing 10 million copies sold. Now, Capcom has hit two back to back milestones, with Sunbreak surpassing 3 million sales and Resident Evil 2 Remake surpassing 10 million copies sold.

Sunbreak is a massive premium expansion for Rise. In addition to new quest ranks, locales, monsters and never-before-experienced hunting actions, players can enjoy new story elements in Rise as well on Nintendo Switch and PC.

As for Resident Evil 2, Capcom created one of the best remakes we've ever seen and that reflected in glowing reviews at release. Since the January 2019 launch, Resident Evil 2 Remake has gone on to ship over 10 million copies across PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The game had a small resurgence recently, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions releasing on the 14th of June.

This year, Capcom plans to release Resident Evil Re:Verse, a dedicated multiplayer spin-off, as well as a new story expansion for the Resident Evil Village campaign. In 2023, we'll also be getting Resident Evil 4 Remake.

KitGuru Says: Ever since Monster Hunter World and Resident Evil 7, Capcom has been on a tear, producing hit after hit. Hopefully this trend will continue in the years ahead.

It is well known that Sony has been doing incredibly well throughout this console generation but it looks like the PS4 still had one last record to break before we enter the PS5 generation in 2020. Sony has now shipped over 100 million PS4 consoles, becoming the fastest console to hit that number ever, beating out the PS2 and the Nintendo Wii.

Very few home consoles have reached 100 million units shipped. This quarter, the PS4 joined the club, beating out the Nintendo Wii and PS2 as the fastest selling console to hit that number, although it was a very close race. For a while, the Nintendo Wii had the PS4 beat but the console's sales slowed down during its fifth year on the market, whereas the PS4 and PS2 did not face the same issue in their respective fifth years on the market. Ultimately, it took the Nintendo Wii around six years to ship 100 million units, the PS2 managed it in five years and nine months and the PS4 has managed it in five years and seven months.

Currently, Sony is projecting to sell 15 million PS4 units during the current financial year. Other recent milestones include over 1 billion software sales on the platform, and PS+ subscriptions have risen to over 36 million.

While we would expect to see PS4 sales start to slow down in 2020, big exclusives like Death Stranding and The Last of Us Part II could keep the console on the best-seller list right up until the launch of the PlayStation 5, which should arrive during the holiday season next year.

KitGuru Says: These sales milestones are always interesting to take a look at, although looking at how well the PS4 continues to sell, I can't help but wonder if the PS5 might be arriving a tad early. Are any of you still waiting to pick up a PS4 for the exclusive games?

Microsoft had big ambitions for Windows 10 and so far, adoption seems to be going pretty strong. Back in October, it was reported that Windows 10 had surpassed the 110 million installs milestone and now, it seems that the company has closed out the year with just over 200 million installs.

This means that Windows 10 has received around 40 million new installations per month on average since it launched back at the end of July, according to figures obtained by Winbeta.

Windows-10

This number will undoubtedly have been helped along by Microsoft's free upgrade scheme for those still on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Additionally, while some have criticized Windows 10 from a privacy standpoint, the OS did manage to bring back the true desktop feel, which was lost in Windows 8 with the launch of the Metro UI.

Microsoft has set itself a goal of getting Windows 10 onto 1 billion devices, which now includes smartphones and potentially the Xbox One. Given how quickly people are adopting Windows 10, it seems that Microsoft may hit that number.

KitGuru Says: I've been using Windows 10 since launch and despite some initial graphics card driver issues, things have gone pretty smoothly for me. That said, we have heard some horror stories over on our Facebook page. Are any of you currently running Windows 10? How have you found it so far?

There is quite a bit of money to be made in streaming, but throughout the year plenty of Twitch streamers host charity events in order to raise money for good causes and this year, a substantial amount was raised, with the Twitch community generating over $17 million for charities.

Twitch revealed the figure in a new blog post, which noted that while the company itself managed to raise $42,000 through sales of its holiday shirt, the community at large managed to raise quite a bit more, with over $17.4 million made in donations for charities like Extra Life and St Jude.

Twitch managed to surpass the 100 million unique monthly views milestone last year, the video game streaming service has announced today. Twitch launched a new site yesterday, commemorating all of the milestones that the service has managed to surpass since its launch just a few years ago.

Other stats from 2014 include hitting a peak of one million concurrent viewers, 11 million videos broadcast per month and even 1.5 million unique broadcasters per month. Twitch streaming is now more accessible than ever thanks to the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft including free programs on the PC, like OBS.

Twitch

Towards the end of last year Twitch was bought by Amazon for $1 billion, since then, the company has cracked down on copyrighted music on VODs but this will not affect live streams at all. Additionally, Twitch has made its own library of free to use music for streamers, allowing them to avoid copyright issues.

The streaming service has even aired a few documentaries over the last year and it looks like things are just going to continue to grow.

The Google Lunar Xprize, like the Ansari Xprize that gave rise to Spaceship One and ultimately Virgin Galactic, exists to challenge and incentivise small, privately funded teams to do amazing things in space. In this case, that challenge is to get a robot to the Moon and travel across the surface while sending back live video before 2016. The grand prize: $30 million dollars.

So far progress has been a little slow, so to further incentivise and motivate the teams that are taking part, they will be receiving Milestone Prizes totalling $5.25 million. These are being given out for three separate challenges that will be part of the finial mission. They are mobility, imaging and landing technology.

google_lunar_xprize_launch_in_2007

The teams that won the Milestone Prizes are Astrobotic (US), Moon Express (US), Part-Time Scientists (Germany), Team Indus (India) and Hakoto (Japan), all who won a minimum of $250,000 each for various categories.

[yframe url='https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8NcwSqmHFM']

Not all Xprize participants choose to aim for these milestone prizes however with some teams aiming to keep focused on the big win at the finish, with 18 teams still in the running from an original 34. However the main challenge before all of the team is still the moon landing before the end of 2016 and if no teams are ready for this before the end of 2015 the challenge may be scrapped altogether.

Last week, AMD made a big end of 2014 splash with the launch of its new Catalyst Omega driver and it looks like it has certainly paid off as word has come down to us straight from AMD that the new driver has been downloaded over two million times in its first week.

The Catalyst Omega driver  brought a slew of new features to the table for AMD users, including Virtual Super Resolution (VSR), allowing users to render games at a higher resolution and then downsample it. 5K monitor support is also a big one, particularly now that the 5K iMac is out in the wild and we have monitors from the likes of Dell in the pipe line.

2 MILLION DOWNLOADS 1

It is clear that AMD has put a lot of effort in to this driver launch, which also brings future support for FreeSync technology on certain GPUs, with Samsung being the first to launch monitors supporting the tech next year. Frame Pacing has seen improvements and AMD has been working on new video upscaling tools as well.

Additionally, the service now has 100 million active user accounts, proving that PC gaming is very much alive and constantly growing. The top country for pledges was the US, raising a total of $663,316,496 for creative projects around the world. The UK came in second at $54,427,475 and in third place we have Canada bringing in $44,913,678:

According to Kickstarter the most money is usually raised on a Wednesday and projects also tend to see more money during the first half of the month. It's not all about the numbers though, the company took the time to highlight some of its best users:

  • Neil Gaiman, the author of Coraline, is the most influential Kickstarter user
  • Hope Leman is the most helpful backer aiming to “help drive technological innovation”.
  • Espen Artzen is the most Arctic user, living just a two hour flight away from the North Pole.
  • Tieg Zaharia is the last on the list and is apparently the ‘most Kickstarter' after backing more than 1000 projects.

Kickstarter 1 Billion

KitGuru Says: Kickstarter has helped a lot of projects come to life since its launch, now anyone with a great idea and the know-how can make it happen. There has been some project creators that took the money and bailed but lets not let a few bad eggs spoil the bunch, ultimately Kickstarter is a good thing. Have any of you guys backed a project on Kickstarter?
