Gotham Knights launched in late October to middling reviews from critics and fans alike. That being said, the team behind the game – WB Games Montreal – seems to already be hard at work on their next title.

Previously, VGC reported that WB Games Montreal had begun working on their follow-up title to the less-than-stellar Gotham Knights. According to the report, the studio is moving away from Batman to instead work on a Superman game. While we do not yet have official confirmation of such a project from WB Games Montreal, a new update has revealed definitively that the team has started work on their next game.

As discovered by Emopulse, Bryan Theberge, the Senior Producer at WB Games Montreal updated their LinkedIn to reveal that as of December 2022, the team have been working on an ‘unannounced project’ with no other details revealed (aside from the fact that Theberge will reprise their role as Senior Producer for this title).

It is worth noting that all the way back in 2021 another LinkedIn post revealed that WB Games Montreal had been working on a second project alongside Gotham Knights, though it was not known how far into development this title was. With Gotham Knights now out, it seems work is going full steam ahead on this next project – whatever it may be.

Back in May, it was announced that Embracer Group was set to acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, Square Enix Montréal as well as a litany of IPs. While it has now been revealed that Square Enix Montréal is being shut down, Eidos Montréal is fortunately still kicking, with the studio reportedly working on multiple projects – including a brand-new Deus Ex title.

Following the announcement that Embracer Group is planning to shut down Square Enix Montréal, industry insider Jason Schreier took to Twitter to offer some details on what its sister studio – Eidos Montréal – is working on.

According to Schreier, Eidos Montréal currently has three projects in the works. Firstly, the studio is working on a brand-new IP. Few details were provided, aside from the claim that this game has recently been rescoped in some capacity.

The second game Eidos is working on is a new entry in the much-loved Deus Ex franchise. With the most recent game releasing all the way back in 2016, it is safe to assume that fans are itching for a new Deus Ex title. That being said, according to Schreier, this game is in “very very early” development, meaning fans will likely be waiting quite a while for any details on this title.

The final game Eidos is said to be working on is the upcoming Fable game from Xbox. It is worth noting however that development on this title is headed by Playground Games, with Eidos taking on the role of co-developer.

Though it is highly unfortunate that Square Enix Montréal is shutting down, it is encouraging at least to see that Eidos is still hanging around and working on some rather exciting titles.

Rocksteady officially wrapped up its time with Batman earlier this year with the release of Arkham Knight. However, that doesn't mean Warner Bros is done developing games based on DC Comics characters, as it looks like WB Montreal, the team behind Arkham Origins, is currently working on two unannounced DC games.

Right now, the studio is in hiring mode, preparing to enter full production on its upcoming projects. Right now, Warner Bros hasn't confirmed anything, but job listings found by IGN point towards 11 open positions at the studio for two triple-A games based in the DC Comics universe.

We don't have any clues as to what game could be coming first. However, next year we will have both the Suicide Squad and Batman VS Superman launching at the Box Office, so we may see a Superman game of some kind, or even one to tie in to Suicide Squad.

Alternatively, Warner Bros could be planning to extend the Arkham franchise, which wouldn't be such a bad idea, not everyone liked Arkham Origins but I enjoyed it a lot more than Arkham Knight.

KitGuru Says: Personally, I'd like to see a decent Superman game made, though I'm not sure how a studio would pull that off. I'm not sure how well a movie tie-in game would go down though, particularly since the studio is more than capable of coming up with something more original.

A couple of days ago, Sony came out and said that Watch Dogs would run at 1080p and 60 frames per second “in a way that only PS4 can provide”. It turns out, the company's claims aren't even close to true as the Watch Dogs developer has revealed the actual resolution and frame rate for the game on both PS4 and Xbox One.

Sony's description for the game read: “Hack everything as you make your way through Chicago's underground as you experience Watch_Dogs in a way that only PS4 can provide, at 60 Frames Per Second in 1080p.” the claim has since been removed as the game will run at 900p and 30 frames per second on the PS4 and 792p with 30 frames per second on the Xbox One.

This makes Watch Dogs the second big title to not reach the 1080p resolution target on Sony's console with the first game being Battlefield 4. This also gives credit to claims that the game didn't look as good in recent trailers compared to when the game was first revealed and shown off.

KitGuru Says: Most of our readers are PC gamers but its still interesting to check in on how the consoles are doing. I'm still really excited for the game, hopefully Ubisoft has put in the time to optimise it properly for PC hardware as many of us don't want to be dealing with day one issues.

When fans of the Batman Arkham series found out that the third game wouldn't be made by Rocksteady, there was definitely concern for the series. Many were worried that the next chapter wouldn't live up to expectations or that it wouldn't do the series justice; it wasn't just fans worrying though. Speaking to Eurogamer Senior Producer, Ben Mattes, revealed that Warner Bros Montreal almost felt reluctant to take on the franchise.

When Warner Bros first announced pre-orders for the game, comment sections were flooded with people demanding to see gameplay first or latching on to the fact that Rocksteady was no longer at the helm of the project. The need to surpass what Rocksteady had already given us may have actually helped the game by giving the developers the pressure they needed to make sure it was polished enough and ready for release.

Mattes explains: “You don't want to be the guys who messed up and ran into the ground one of the absolute, top-rated franchises of all time. You don't want that at the top of your CV. ‘Yeah, I'm the guy who turned a 96 into a 60, that's my claim to fame.' So I think there was an extra desire to create something really great as we were fully aware of the opportunity that we had.”

Over the months as more gameplay was shown, Mattes recalls fans showing more positivity and many people stopped pessimistically ignoring the game due to the lack of Rocksteady or original voice actors. Eventually it got to the point where fans were more comfortable with how the game was coming along.

“I think every subsequent piece of code we've shown has won over more and more of the public, to the point where it now stands out as an exception if we see someone who's still towing that line of: ‘It's not Rocksteady, it's not going to be good.' There's only, like, one in a 1000 it seems now still playing that card.”

Batman Arkham Origins came out today on PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U with slightly toned down Arkham Origins: Blackgate games arriving on the 3DS and PS Vita.

KitGuru Says: Facing all of the original fan skepticism must have been hard for the developers but now the game is finally out, people can finally start to share their thoughts on it. Are you playing Arkham Origins yet? What do you think so far?
