With the PlayStation 4, Sony’s controllers included a new share button, making it easier for players to capture videos and screenshots of their games to publish on various social media including Twitter. Though no particular reason was given as to why, Sony has now announced that they are removing all integration with Twitter/X.

Making the announcement, Sony posted a message to PlayStation users via their consoles, saying (as shared by Wario64):

“IMPORTANT CHANGES TO PLAYSTATION COMMUNITIES ON YOUR PS5 CONSOLE. As of November 13, 2023, integration with X (formerly known as Twitter) will no longer function on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles.”

This change seems to be all-encompassing, with the message continuing: “This includes the ability to view any content published on X on PS5/PS4, and the ability to post and view content, trophies, and other gameplay related activities on X directly from PS5/PS4 (or link an X account to do so).”

While Sony did not offer any reasons for the disintegration of Twitter from PlayStation, the social media site has garnered a great number of controversies ever since it was purchased by Elon Musk last year. It is perhaps for this reason that PlayStation has decided to distance itself from the platform.

Tesla cars are known for offering many superfluous tech-focused features including customisable horns, voice commands, and a Wikipedia-page-long list of easter eggs. One of these bonus features includes the ability to play a few games on the built-in screen. In the future however, Teslas will have access to thousands of games.

Currently, Tesla’s inbuilt system is able to play a short and select number of games including Cuphead, Stardew Valley, Missile Command, and Sonic the Hedgehog. Thanks to their Zen+ APUs and Navi 23 GPUs, the infotainment systems in Tesla’s latest cars can certainly handle heavier games than what is currently being thrown at them.

In the future, you will be able to play all manner of games – and will even be able to see if a Tesla can run Crysis – as Elon Musk has claimed that “We’re working through the general case of making Steam games work on a Tesla vs specific titles. Former is obviously where we should be long-term”. One respondent then asked “Is Cyberpunk on Cybertruck a guarantee? Or is it a wish long-term” to which Musk simply responded with the ‘100%’ emoji.

The ability to play games on an in-built central display has already proven to be controversial with lawmakers. It will therefore be interesting to see whether Tesla will be allowed and able to add Steam to their cars – and just how well various games run on the hardware.

It turns out that when Space X and Tesla founder Elon Musk says he's going to do something, we should take him at his word. Following his unofficial announcement that he would begin digging tunnels to take cars underground to ease traffic, he's actually going to do it. Within a month or so, one of his ventures will begin boring tunnels right across from his Space X office.

December 2016 saw the multi-faceted entrepreneur announce his displeasure at having to sit in traffic. While there are no doubt jokes to be made about billionaires and the gripes of everyday humans, this sparked a desire in Musk to do for roadways what he's done for electric cars and space travel: innovate. His plan was to begin digging large scale underground tunnels to ease congestion and improve the efficiency of road travel.

While a number of people questioned the viability of such a project and how serious Musk was about the idea, it turns out we are about to find out, as he now claims drilling is set to begin within the next month or so.

When a commenter asked Musk to clarify that indeed he was serious, “like, seriously serious?” he replied with as obvious a reply as possible. “Yup.”

Quizzed further by those interested in the project, Musk said that the first tunnel would be drilled right across from his own desk.

While any sort of tunnelling project is unlikely to be completed in a short time frame, especially if it is to be large and long enough to have a significant impact on traffic, it will be interesting to see if the project can be simplified through restrictions. Many have speculated that Musk's tunnels would only allow access to zero-emission vehicles like electric cars, thereby requiring far less ventilation than standard tunnels.

If that was the case, they could be completed more quickly and provide an added incentive to drive electric cars.

Space X CEO Elon Musk is one of the world's leading proponents of colonising other worlds, but he may not stop at sending people to Mars. The Mars Colonial Transporter (MCT) design, which is said to be capable of transporting 100 people to the surface of the red planet, could potentially go much further.

Musk and Space X's goals over the past few years have been much more focused on getting hardware out of Earth's atmosphere on a tighter budget and they've had many successes. However the ultimate goal is to get to Mars and to colonise it, which is why the MCT design was put together, but purportedly it has the potential to take people further, so Musk may not settle for Mars.

Although Mars is likely to be the best place to begin colonising other worlds, there are many other places in our solar system that could potentially become home to human life in the future. The Moon is a possibility, as are Titan, Callisto and even dwarf planets like Ceres (thanks Ars).

The details for what Space X really has planned with its (potentially renamed) Interplanetary Colonial Transporter is something that we'll learn a lot more about later this month. Space X executives will break down the ultimate plan to get people to Mars and beyond at the International Astronautical Congress on the 27th, but Musk did hint at a potential topic of discussion by pointing out that MCT can do much more than take people to Mars.

Any such ship would likely take several launches and some in-space construction to put it all together, but it may be that in just over a week's time we'll know just how long it may be before a real human settlement begins to take shape on another world.

KitGuru Says: I've seen people complain before that we're a generation that will miss out on space travel, but we are very likely to see the first human flag driven into Martian soil and likely a habitat of some kind along with it. It's an awesome time to be alive.

Rocket launches are inherantly dangerous. While we may have come up with lots of clever ways to keep astronauts and expensive equipment safe during a launch, they are at the end of the day sat upon literal tonnes of highly explosive fuel, so sometimes things go wrong. That's why there are safety mechanisms like the one Space X tested earlier this month, which can abort a launch and make sure the crew gets away safely. Thanks to a new video release, we now we know what it would look like to be one of those crew members.

Space X's launch pad abort system went off without a hitch when it was tested in early May, with the commercial space venture releasing a video from the sidelines at the time. To give a better perspective to the event, Space X has now released a video from the camera feed aboard the capsule used in the test. The speed reached by the abort system a few seconds after launch really is something else.

superdraco

According to the video's description, the capsule hit over 360 miles per hour in short order, travelling from 0-100 miles per hour in just 1.2 seconds. Of course such speeds seem paltry compared to those achieved in space, but consider this was within Earth's atmosphere and it's far more impressive.

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcHD9AmkxA0′]

However what's important about Space X's abort system is that unlike traditional ones which used a rocket tower mounted on top of the capsule and could only be used up to a certain height, Space X's system should provide astronauts with a way to safely bail out of a launch all the way to orbit. It achieves this by using eight SuperDraco engines mounted along the sides of the craft, to deliver heavy thrust in short order. Those same thrusters can also be used to aid in landing the Dragon capsule safely.

Even more impressively, a number of SuperDraco parts are 3D printed.

KitGuru Says: Good to see that Space x takes the survival of its astronauts seriously. I suppose that's something you need to factor in without a quick-load function. That always saved my Kerbals from meeting a grisly end.
