We're still some ways off from AMD launching the Radeon RX 7000 series, but the rumour mill is continuing to churn out early information. Apparently, the RX 7000 series won't just include Navi 3x GPUs, as there may be some Navi 2x GPUs refreshed on a 6nm node to bulk out the line-up.

Known leaker @greymon55 claimed the Navi 31, 32, and 33 will be the only GPUs based on the RDNA 3 architecture. Other GPUs in the line-up will apparently be refreshed Navi 22, 23 and 24 GPUs based on the 6nm node instead of 7nm.

We may not see a refresh of Navi 21, as the Navi 33 GPU appears to be quite similar in terms of specifications. According to rumours, the Navi 33 GPU is expected to come with 5120 stream processors, the same as Navi 21.

The refreshed Navi 2x GPUs would fill in the ranks of the mid and low-range Radeon RX 7000 series cards, most likely the Radeon RX 7600/7500 and below. These GPUs will likely release quite late, with the first, high-end RX 7000 GPUs set to debut in late 2022, followed by mid-range and low-end options in 2023.

KitGuru says: We're still over a year away from seeing AMD's next-gen RDNA 3 graphics cards, so plenty could change over the course of 2022.

Back in April, we caught wind of a new Mac Pro upgrade featuring new AMD Radeon Pro graphics options. It has taken a couple of months but today, Apple brought the updates live, with the new AMD Radeon Pro graphics cards boasting 50 percent better performance-per-watt compared to the previous Vega II GPUs offered to Mac Pro buyers.

Apple is working on its own graphics solutions, but the company is still a long way off from being able to replace AMD in its pro-grade desktop offering. The Mac Pro is now available with AMD's Radeon Pro W6800X, W6800X Duo and W6900X graphics cards, replacing the Vega II and Vega II Duo graphics cards previously available with the Mac Pro.

The new W6000 series graphics cards make the jump to the RDNA 2 architecture, delivering 50 percent better performance-per-watt. Some of Apple's own tests show up to 84 percent gains in Octane X rendering, 26 percent better performance in Cinema 4D and 23 percent better performance in DaVinci Resolve. All three cards also have pro-grade features, such as Thunderbolt 3, and support for Infinity Fabric Link to allow multi-GPU setups.

Of course, as with any Mac Pro upgrade, configuring the system with one of these GPUs won't be cheap. The new Mac Pro with a W6800X will cost you an extra $2,400, while the top of the range W6900X will cost you an extra $5,600. Multi-GPU configurations can cost up to and over $10,000.

KitGuru Says: The Mac Pro just received a major GPU upgrade, but these performance gains also come at a high price.

The Radeon RX 6700 XT officially launched this week, targeting PC gamers looking to play at 1440p resolution. As we know though, this isn't the end for AMD's series of RDNA 2 based graphics cards. Another 1080p gaming focused graphics card is also due and according to leaks this week, we could see it next month.

A new report from known leaker, @KittyYYuko, AMD is preparing another GPU, codenamed ‘Dimgray Cavefish', for an April launch. This graphics card will likely be based on the Navi 23 GPU and will be marketed for “premium 1080p gaming”. In China, this graphics card is supposedly going to carry a 2499 CNY price tag, which converts to around £275 here in the UK, although conversion pricing is never accurate, so do not take this to be the official launch MSRP. So far, we are told to expect this GPU to pack 32 Compute Units and 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM. In terms of comparable GPUs, this upcoming graphics card is said to rival the RTX 3060.

It is possible that this graphics card will use the Navi 22 GPU instead and launch as the RX 6600 XT, which was recently listed on the EEC database. That's all the information we have for now though, but if this leak proves to be true, we'll be hearing official details in just a matter of weeks.

Aside from the upcoming RDNA 2 GPU, the leaker also claims that AMD's codenamed ‘Cezanne' desktop APU is launching in June.

KitGuru Says: Time will tell if these leaks are accurate, but it does seem in-line with what we would expect from a 1080p gaming card on paper. Are many of you still rocking a 1080p monitor? Will you be upgrading your graphics card this year?

Just yesterday, we learned that specifications for upcoming Radeon Navi GPUs had leaked. Now, a new Linux OpenGL driver stack might have given us more information, including the codename for another unannounced AMD GPU.

AMD's Linux OpenGL driver stack (Mesa 20.03-devel) added support for a new GPU codenamed Dimgrey Cavefish. In the driver stack's code, it isn't clear which Navi 2x GPU is Dimgrey Cavefish, but if we cross information with the hexadecimal ranges (0x3C, 0x46) that AMD has previously provided, just like @KOMACHI_ENSAKA did, we conclude that it is the Navi 23 GPU. Doing the same with Navy Flounder hexadecimal ranges (0x32, 0x3C) suggests that Flounder is the Navi 22 GPU.

Based on the leaked specifications of the Navy Flounder GPU, the Dimgrey Cavefish GPU should be based on the RDNA2 architecture and feature less than 40 CUs and a 192-bit memory bus or less.

For now, we expect that AMD will launch at least three new Navi 2x GPUs. Compared to previous generations, AMD seems to be planning to launch wider line-up of graphics cards in a shorter time span. Nonetheless, AMD likely won't launch all of them at the same time. The latest Navi 2x GPU added to the Linux OpenGL driver was introduced three months later than the Navi 21 GPU, so following the same rule we can expect the Dimgrey Cavefish GPU in early 2021.

AMD is set to announce its next generation of graphics cards on October 28th.

KitGuru says: Do you think AMD will launch all of its Radeon RX 6000 lineup at the same time? How well do you think these new Radeon GPUs will stack up against Nvidia?

AMD's quarterly financial earnings call took place last night and aside from record earnings for 2019, AMD also had good news on the 2020 front, with next-gen RDNA GPU architecture set to debut, along with AMD's return to high-end graphics with ‘Big Navi'.

For the full year of 2019, AMD made a record $6.73 billion, with $2.13bn of that coming in Q4 alone. The launch of Zen 2 based processors has been a huge success, although AMD's semi-custom/embedded CPU segment did fall slightly lower than expectations. However, with next-generation consoles due in 2020, semi-custom chip sales should pick back up again by the end of the year.

During the Q&A section of the earnings call, AMD CEO, Dr. Lisa Su, also teased a little about what's next on the GPU front. The original RDNA GPUs, (RX 5000 series) is due to be refreshed but there will also be next generation RDNA GPUs too.

We didn't get much more detail beyond that but we do know that more will be revealed at AMD's financial analyst day, which takes place on the 5th of March.

KitGuru Says: 2019 seems to have been a huge year for AMD and as usual, we are looking forward to seeing what can be brought to the table this year. What do you want to see from AMD this year? New Ryzen CPUs? RX 6000 series graphics?

The post EEC database lists new AMD Radeon RX 5000 series GPUs first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
PC gamers and enthusiasts hoping for a high-end AMD Navi GPU in 2020 may have had their wish granted if a recent listing added to the Eurasian Economic Commission database turns out to be correct. According to the EEC database, there could be new SKUs due from AMD’s Radeon RX 5000 series, all positioned above the current RX 5700 line.

First spotted yesterday by @KOMACHI_ENSAKA on Twitter was a new addition to the EEC database that contained three potential new AMD Radeon RX 5000 series SKUs, which could point to AMD releasing a Navi GPU that will complete with high-end offerings from Nvidia, something which PC gamers and enthusiasts have been calling for since AMD launched the RX 5000 Navi series last year.

Just last week at CES, AMD CEO Dr Lisa Su was quizzed about “Big Navi” by the media, Su didn’t give much away, However, she did seem upbeat about the prospect of a high-end Navi GPU coming. In response to a question from Gordon Ung of PC World, Dr Su replied “You should expect that we will have a high-end Navi and that it is important to have it. The discrete graphics market, especially at the high end, is very important to us. So you should expect that we will have a high-end Navi.”

There is still no firm timescale of when to expect a high-end Navi GPU but the recent listing on the EEC database by AMD partner AFOX suggests it could be soon. What’s even more interesting is that the EEC database doesn’t just list a single SKU and all of them are above the current AMD Radeon RX 700 series. These include the RX 5800 XT, RX 5900 and RX 5950/XT.

Of course, this is not the first time we have seen these SKUs, in September 2019, Sapphire listed an almost identical addition to the EEC database that contained all these potential high-end Navi SKUs and even though AMD has confirmed high-end Navi will happen, no one is entirely certain whether it will be part of the RX 5000 series, it could well be a brand new Radeon RX 6000 series, we will just have to wait and see.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: This new listing on the EEC database will no doubt get the AMD fans hopes up of high-end Navi coming soon. However, we should remain a little sceptical as to whether this will happen, as it may seem a little odd that AMD would have three of four more SKUs to add to the RX 5000 series. What do you guys think?

The post Early XFX product listing shows upcoming RX 5600 XT Thicc II Pro first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Over the last couple of weeks, leaks surrounding the RX 5600 XT have been picking up, including benchmark results and spec listings from board partner websites. The last leak came from a product page on ASRock's website that went live a bit too early and now it looks like XFX has made a similar mistake, with the RX 5600 XT Thicc II Pro breaking cover.

The page on XFX's website has since been taken offline but of course, eagle-eyed viewers were quick to spot the page and jot down the details. Videocardz also managed to obtain a few images of the GPU, which shows off the revised XFX Thicc cooler, which ran into some issues in the initial RX 5700 XT model.

As for specs, the XFX RX 5600 XT Thicc II Pro will have 2304 stream processors, a 1620MHz boost clock, 6GB of GDDR6 memory running at 12Gbps. The memory bus is 192-bit and total memory bandwidth clocks in at 288GB/s.

At this point, it seems that an RX 5600 XT announcement at CES is a certainty, so we'll be keeping an eye out next week for more official details.

KitGuru Says: We still need to see pricing and independent benchmarks before we can truly judge the RX 5600 XT but so far, it looks like we can expect plenty of custom versions from board partners. Are any of you considering an AMD GPU upgrade over the next few months?

AMD ended 2019 with the message that the company will push the envelope of high computing again in 2020, at the same time as announcing it will be holding its annual CES press conference on Monday 6th January at 2 pm.

AMD finished off 2019 with a message on its Twitter page announcing the company will be holding a press conference at 2 pm on Monday 6th January at CES. The announcement was published on AMD’s Twitter page with a caption that read “AMD will push the envelope yet again to make 2020 an incredible year for high-performance computing.” This instantly got people talking on the social media outlet with many Twitter users providing their opinion on what AMD will unveil at CES next week.

2019 has been a great year for AMD with the huge success of Ryzen 3000 processors. Intel may still hold the gauntlet when it comes to raw gaming CPU power, but AMD has certainly caught up and even passed Intel in terms of performance in all other workload scenarios. AMD has also excelled in the graphics market too with RDNA architecture and NAVI GPUs finally providing consumers with a valid alternative to Nvidia's mid-top tier cards with the 5700/5700 XT launch.

Following the message from AMD, the general consensus among Twitter users was the hope that AMD will announce its highly anticipated RDN2 graphics architecture and offer a true high-end GPU that can compete with Nvidia at the top end of the market. However, this is just opinion and in actual fact, AMD could be on another path completely. Even though it would be great for the industry for AMD to launch a 2080 Ti competitor early in 2020, it may not happen.

So, what can we expect from AMD at CES 2020? Well, we certainly know that the company’s flagship high-end desktop CPU, Threadripper 3990X is on its way soon – the 64-core monster was teased back in November and will be making a formal appearance at CES. AMD is also expected to announce a new mobile processor at CES too, in the form of its Ryzen 4000 ‘Renoir’ APU. The Renoir series will bring AMD’s successful Zen 2 7nm process to mobile devices in 2020.

In terms of graphics cards, it is possible AMD could officially announce Radeon RX 5600 XT at CES – just a few days ago an accidental leak from ASRock all but confirmed the specifications of the 5600 XT which will offer the same core count as the Radeon RX 5700 series with a little less VRAM at 6GB for a more cost-effective solution. Who knows, AMD could surprise us all and announce a new high-end NAVI card after all, we will just have to wait and see on that one.

It is also possible that we could hear something official from AMD regarding Zen 3 or Ryzen 4000 as some would rather call it. Just last week there were rumours that the new architecture could offer a substantial performance boost with IPC gains of up to 17% possible. Since Intel is expected to launch its 10th generation desktop Core series processors in the first half of 2020, AMD could be lining up Ryzen 4000 for a similar launch date and may provide some official information on the new architecture and whether it will be a generation bump up to Zen 3.

No matter what AMD has up its sleeve, I’m sure it will make for an interesting year in 2020 and CES will start the tech year off with a bang next week. If you are one of the lucky folks who are going to CES, AMD will be holding its press conference on Monday 6th January at 2 pm as part of the official CES 2020 Media Days and will be hosted by AMD President and CEO Dr. Lisa Su. The conference will also be live-streamed on the AMD YouTube channel.

Next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft are both due in late 2020 and while neither company has confirmed specific hardware specifications, we know quite a bit already. Thanks to various leaks and some additional confirmation from the folks at Digital Foundry, we now have our best approximation of performance and hardware spec for both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X.

The PS5 leak is the most concrete so far thanks to references found on GitHub, seemingly posted by someone at AMD's ASIC validation department to store testing data for a range of in-progress projects. As reported by Digital Foundry this week, this data was first stored around six months ago and while architecture changes are unlikely at this point, clock speeds could still be adjusted as the PS5 APU continues to be tuned and refined ahead of next year's launch.

So on to the specs, which primarily refer to the GPU as CPU specific details are still unconfirmed even through leaks. The current testing leaks show the PS5 GPU using 36 Navi compute units clocked at 2GHz, which would approximately lead to 9.2 TFLOPS in overall performance. The leak also points to GDDR6 memory being used with a rated bandwidth of 448GB/s.

The reason we can attribute this data to Sony's next-gen system is due to the additional modes. As part of an effort to support backwards compatibility with PS4, the PS5 chip has two additional operation modes, each of which match the performance of a PS4 and PS4 Pro console respectively.

The testing data also contains fragments of information on what appears to be the Xbox Series X chip, with mention of 3584 shaders, or 56 compute units. Running at 1700MHz, this chip should be capable of 12.2 TFLOPS of overall compute performance, which lines up with previous leaks that stated a 12 TFLOP performance target for Microsoft's top-end next-gen console. GDDR6 memory with 560GB/s bandwidth is also mentioned.

A chip with this specification would be significantly more expensive to manufacture, raising questions around just how much the Xbox Series X will cost at launch.

Both the Xbox Series X and the PS5 are expected to also utilise eight-core Zen 2 processors with simultaneous multi-threading (SMT) enabled. Both consoles will also be making the jump to SSDs, so assuming each comes with a 1TB NVMe SSD, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X may end up being very high-end, although so far, the PS5 stands a better chance of hitting a more palatable launch price point.

Of course, all of this is early and unconfirmed information based on just fragments of testing data, so it doesn't paint the full picture. In the months to come, we will be learning a lot more about the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, with more in-depth unveiling for both systems set to take place.

KitGuru Says: The next-gen console race is shaping up to be much more exciting this time around and the addition of higher-power CPUs should help more developers achieve 60 frames per second while maintaining a high bar for graphical fidelity. Are any of you thinking about getting one of these next-gen consoles in 2020? Which one are you looking forward to the most?

Just over a week ago, the guys over at VideoCardz received a tip from Reddit user _rogame that the new cards from AMD are likely to offer a 30% improvement in performance over the Radeon RX 5500 XT with leaked information appearing on the 3DMark database of a suspected Radeon RX 5600 XT SKU featuring 12 Gbps memory at 1500MHz clock speed and a 6144 MB memory capacity. The assumption was made that this will be the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT since the company has not launched a 6 GB card in years.

These rumours have been all but confirmed now with VideoCardz picking up on a leak from ASRock themselves listing a specification sheet for the Radeon RX 5600 XT Challenger D 6G OC card, which we can now assume will be released in the very near future and includes 2304 Stream Processors just like the Radeon RX 5700 non-XT cards.

As previous rumours suggested, the Radeon RX 5600 XT Challenger D 6G OC leaked specification does in fact, include 6 GB of GDDR6 VRAM with 12 Gbps bandwidth and a 192-bit memory bus. Also listed in the ASRock specification is the core frequency which reads 1235 MHz base, 1460 MHz boost and 1620 MHz game clock. Since this is a factory overclocked card, the game clock is likely to be the result of ASRock’s in house overlocking.

Another thing worth noting from the ASrock 5600 XT specifications is the listing that reads “2nd Gen 7nm GPU”, which further fuels rumours that the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT will be based on a refined RDNA architecture from AMD Navi 2x. However, this could just be how ASRock refer to all Navi GPUs, with Vega 20 being regarded as 1st Gen 7nm, so this rumour may well turn out to be wide of the mark.

KitGuru says: Looking at the potential specification for Radeon RX 5600 XT, it seems like it's placed much closer to the RX 5700 series and could provide a handy alternative for overlocking to compete with mid-range Nvidia cards such as the 2060 and 2060 super maybe. What do you guys think of this information and how do you expect the RX 5600 XT to stack up against Nvidia’s offerings?

AMD has been slowly ramping up its Navi GPU lineup, with the RX 5500 XT recently joining the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT. The next step seems to be the RX 5600 XT, with leaked benchmarks leading us to expect similar performance to a Vega 56.

User ‘_rogame’ posted leaked benchmark results for the upcoming RX 5600 XT on Reddit and shared the findings with Videocardz. The latest leak seems to confirm that the GPU will feature 6GB of VRAM, while other sources suggest that these will be 12Gbps GDDR6 memory chips.

The leak includes GPU scores for several prominent benchmarks putting the RX 5600 XT in similar territory to the RX Vega 56 and GTX 1070Ti. In most of the tests, the RX 5600 XT brought in over 30% better performance than the RX 5500 XT.

In Time Spy Extreme, the alleged RX 5600 XT is said to have scored 2815 points, while it scored 6446 points in standard Time Spy. In Fire Strike Ultra (4K), the GPU scored 4756 points, which rose to 9198 points in Fire Strike Extreme.

Of course, this is all rumour for now, so take this information with a grain of salt. Perhaps AMD will have something official to share early next year.

KitGuru Says: With the launch of next-gen consoles, APUs with Navi/RDNA graphics and of course, new discrete graphics cards, 2020 is shaping up to be a big year for Radeon. We are also still waiting to hear more about the ‘high-end’ Navi chip that AMD teased earlier in the year.

Over the course of this year, AMD has been making headway in the GPU market with its RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT GPUs. A while back, AMD CEO, Lisa Su, did mention that high-end Navi was ‘on track', so there is a bigger, more powerful version to come later down the line and now, evidence of ‘big Navi' is starting to pop up, with driver references to Navi 22 and Navi 23 being spotted.

Over on the 3DCenter forum, one user did some digging inside of a new Linux driver, finding two strings labelling “AMDGPU_NAVI22” and “AMDGPU_NAVI23”, in addition a ‘Navi 12 Lite' GPU is also listed.

Moving on from there, a Reddit user claiming to be benchmarking an upcoming AMD APU has posted a series of code references to Navi 14, some of which should power the RX 5500 and RX 5500M. Some of the other SKUs could be cut down versions of the chip intended for an RX 5300 series of GPUs.

These are still early days for rumours surrounding additional upcoming RX 5000 series Navi-based graphics cards but progress is being made. Perhaps over the course of Q1 and Q2 2020, we'll start to see the rest of the RX-5000 lineup fill up.

KitGuru Says: As always, nothing is confirmed but it stands to reason that a good number of additional Navi GPUs are on the way to bulk up the roster. Some of these listings could also potentially be referring to upcoming SKUs intended for next-gen consoles, which are also on the way next year.

Even though none of AMD's current generation of graphics cards officially support Microsoft’s DirectX Raytracing (DXR), according to recent reports, it seems AMD has been putting code in its GPU drivers since July this year.

As reported by PCGamesN, recent images from AMD’s China partner summit event, which were shared online, suggest attendees of the event may have heard details that the Radeon driver release due in December, will have new features coming that could include support for ray tracing.

It appears that AMD has had ray tracing code in its Radeon drivers since the Adrenalin 19.7.2 release back in July. While the code is thought to have been in the drivers since then, it has never been activated. Currently, none of the GPUs in AMD's current crop officially support ray tracing, while Nvidia have had hardware-level ray tracing since last year when its generation of RTX cards were released.

Given that Nvidia has had ray tracing enabled products on the market for over a year now, AMD has some catching up to do, it would make sense that AMD is working on support to incorporate ray tracing into its GPUs soon. However, that may not mean the current Navi generation, but possibly a rumoured selection of RDNA 2 cards which we could see as early as 2020, support ray tracing.

According to PCGamesN, Twitter tech analyst, Komachi spotted a reference to Microsoft’s DXR in AMD Adrenalin drivers in July but found it wasn’t actually active. However, Komachi is expecting DXR to be one of the new features in the Radeon Adrenalin 2019 software coming in December. This may mean the current crop of AMD Navi graphics cards will feature software level ray tracing. After all, there were suggestions in the past that Navi would have ray tracing patched in via software eventually, one way or another.

KitGuru says: Are you an AMD GPU owner looking forward to ray tracing support? would you like to see Navi support software level ray tracing or would you prefer to wait for hardware-level support in future generations?

The post Sapphire TriXX Boost Analysed – DLSS Killer! first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Since AMD launched its Navi graphics cards almost two months ago, we've reviewed a couple of partner cards from Sapphire – namely their Pulse and Nitro+ models. While we focused almost exclusively on the hardware for those reviews, Sapphire has also created an interesting tool on the software side of things, which it calls TriXX Boost. In a nutshell, this lets you lower your resolution scale to increase frame rates while gaming, but offsets the lower image quality by enabling Radeon Image Sharpening.

To be clear, TriXX Boost is not a revolutionary new feature that Sapphire has developed which fundamentally changes how games will be played. Instead, it is simply a case of setting a custom resolution based on a resolution scale slider which is adjustable in TriXX. There are other ways to set custom resolutions – some games even have resolution scaling built-in – but TriXX boost makes the process very easy.

Setting a custom resolution is only half of the equation, though – the other half is Radeon Image Sharpening. This works in tandem with setting a lower resolution than native (85% resolution scale with a 4K monitor results in a custom 3264×1836 resolution) by sharpening the final image, meaning we should see a decent improvement in frame rates, thanks to the resolution downscaling, without losing out on image quality.

For a full analysis of how this works and for performance figures, be sure to watch the video above. Here, we'll just focus on a few select examples of the differences in image quality between native 4K, and our custom 3264×1836 resolution with RIS enabled.

Our first example is from Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Here we can see the neon sign in the background is clearly shaper than the native 4K image – in fact, I'd say it is probably too sharp and looks a bit artificial. The same can also be said of Lara's hair, where each strand looks over-sharpened and a bit ‘fake'. This is a 200% crop however, and the differences are definitely less noticeable when viewed normally.

Things goes the opposite way with this next example, where the native 4K image just looks very soft – focus on the lady's face, and her features are barely distinguishable. The image with Trixx Boost and RIS, though, looks a lot clearer and sharper. I would say that the hair again looks more natural at native 4K, as sharpening this results in a grainy appearance. It's still a great result for TriXX Boost though.

Our last example comes from Metro Exodus, and there is very little difference between these two images. If anything, the flame on the right hand side looks a bit clearer and more well-defined, while the wood the candle is sitting on also shows a sharper edge to it than the native 4K image. That being said, it would be very hard to tell the difference between these two images in a blind comparison test, and that is surely good news for TriXX Boost.

If you want more performance figures then do watch the video above, but TriXX Boost clearly has its benefits. With our 85% resolution scale we saw average frame rates increase by 31% versus native resolution. Considering the minimal difference this made to image quality, we have to say it is a feature well-worth using for any owners of a Sapphire graphics card.

The one downside is that, at present, RIS only works with DX9, DX11 or Vulkan games. While you can use TriXX Boost to set a custom resolution for all games, if it's DX12 then image quality will suffer slightly as you won't be able to use RIS to sharpen things back up. How much that will affect you really depends which games you play the most, but it is certainly something to note.

KitGuru says: TriXX Boost is a useful feature that has largely flown under the radar, so we thought it was worth a closer look. Has anyone picked up a new Sapphire card and played around with this feature? Do let us know your experiences.

The post Cyberpower Hydro-X Ultra Gaming System Review first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Cyberpower is a UK retailer of pre-built computer systems, with a huge range to choose from, starting with affordable office/business systems all the way up to the top of the range workstation and gaming PCs. Today, we will be looking at one of their flagship systems, the Hydro-X Ultra Gaming, which features a custom CPU liquid cooling loop from Corsair.

The Hydro-X series from Cyberpower is one of their top of the line, pre-built systems. With Hydro-X systems, you can configure and customise the system to your needs. A huge range of options for customisation are available when ordering, such as a selection of cases, CPUs, GPUs, motherboards, storage devices and more. You even have the option of adding sound reducing foam, choosing the colour of the liquid in the cooling loop and adding a selection of coloured cable extensions amongst other things.

The possibilities are almost endless. However, the price is adjusted to reflect your choices, so you could quite easily spend much more than initially expected. The system we have for review is the default Hydro-X Ultra Gaming system, which is initially listed on their website from the ‘Exclusive Series’ pull-down menu, which you can see here.

Powered by the new AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, 12 core 24 thread CPU, it should provide the Hydro-X Ultra Gaming enough oomph for even the most demanding of tasks. While gaming is the primary focus with this system, the 3900X is a more than capable CPU for productivity tasks, so we will be testing the performance of the system in all scenarios.

Paired with the Ryzen 9 3900X CPU is an all new X570 platform, featuring an MSI MPG X570 Pro carbon gaming WIFI motherboard at the heart of it. With a number of issues plaguing X570 boards at launch, it didn’t get off to a great start. Recently, we have seen several BIOS updates, which are improving performance and stability with every release. The system arrived to us with BIOS revision 7B93v12, which at the time of writing is the current and latest version.

16GB of Corsair Vengeance PRO RGB DDR4 3200MHz is installed in the Hydro-X Ultra Gaming, which is still considered to be relatively high speed. However, due to the vast amount of testing we have seen recently on the new Ryzen 3000 series of CPUs, it is common knowledge that 3600MHz RAM is optimal for Zen 2 performance. With this in mind, we can’t help but feel the minimal extra cost incurred by choosing 3600MHz RAM for this system may have proved beneficial.

Two different drives provide storage in the Cyberpower Hydro-X Ultra Gaming system. The first is a Corsair MP600 Gen4 PCIe M.2 SSD – this is great news as the performance from PCIe 4.0 SSD drives is the best we can expect currently, so this an area we are glad to see Cyberpower has not cut costs. Offering extra storage is a 2TB Seagate Barracuda mechanical hard drive, while much slower than the M.2 SSD, it does offer plenty of extra storage for non-critical applications.

To power the system, Cyberpower have chosen a Corsair Vengeance 650M 650W 80+ Silver certified unit. As far as 80+ Silver power supplies go, the Vengeance 650M is very good. We do have to question a Silver rated PSU in 2019, however, when this system costs north of £2000 – an 850W Gold PSU could be sourced for as little as £20 more. On top of that, 650W for this system as sold should be enough – but when you factor in overclocking the CPU or adding extra components, it could well be pushing things close.

Now, for the most important part when it comes to a gaming PC- the GPU. Cyberpower has installed a MSI Radeon 5700 XT in the Ultra Gaming system as default. At around the £400 mark, it could be considered a mid-range card. However, it does have comparable performance to a Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super, and in some games the 5700 XT is better, so it’s no slouch. We will see how it performs in this system during testing.

Cyberpower have opted for a Corsair Crystal 680X case as the base for all of this hardware to fit into. The case should provide ample space for components and has good potential for cooling with its dual compartment layout. In addition to this, Cyberpower have installed a Corsair Hydro-X custom liquid cooling loop to keep CPU temperatures under control.

You could argue this is little overkill since the system is shipped with the CPU at stock frequency and voltage, though from an aesthetic point of view the custom loop does look lovely. There is also an option to have the system professionally overclocked by Cyberpower prior to shipping, but this comes with a £29 extra premium.

This has been quite the week for PC hardware leaks. We’ve been hearing a lot about Threadripper, Intel 10th Gen, Cascade Lake-X and various motherboards but now, we are also getting early news of upcoming graphics cards. Specifically, new GPUs based on AMD’s Navi architecture.

Over the weekend, we began seeing evidence for new Navi based graphics cards thanks to datamining driver updates. Notably, references to Navi 12 and Navi 14 were found, which are new GPUs as the RX 5700 series is based on Navi 10. Speculation pins these as the ‘high-end’ versions of Navi that Lisa Su previously confirmed to be in development. However, we now have some evidence of a lower-end Navi graphics card coming to market instead.

As spotted by German site, ComputerBase, HP’s website and a few retailers were updated with listings for new tower desktops featuring the RX 5300 XT, which has not been announced at this point in time. According to HP’s available documentation, this sport 4GB of GDDR5 memory too, making it one of the entry-level graphics cards.

Occasionally, hardware makers will make OEM-only products that are supposed to be sold in pre-built systems and not individually. With that in mind, we don’t know if the RX 5300 XT will be more widely available on the market for DIY PC builders. However, it is also worth noting that HP’s desktops were listed as being available in October and there is some evidence to indicate that AMD will have a new GPU around then.

KitGuru Says: AMD’s RX 5700 series has a great price to performance ratio, so it will be interesting to see how that scales, whether it is for higher or lower-end cards. Are any of you currently looking for a GPU upgrade?

It's been almost three months since AMD launched its latest RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT graphics cards, based on the Navi 10 GPU. Now, a recent post on Mesa 3D Graphics Library suggests the next Navi 12 and Navi 14 GPUs could be just around the corner.

The post was made by Marek Olšák, AMD's open source driver expert, adding the Navi 12 PC ID to the Mesa 19.2 library, and first reported by PCGamesN. To add an extra layer of intrigue, the post was labelled ‘trivial and urgent'. It's not clear what exactly that means, AMD is yet to officially announce any further GPUs, but it certainly doesn't seem like it will be long until we have more news on the subject. Given that the next update to Mesa is scheduled for 15 October, it's possible these GPUs may be released before then.

    RX 5700 reference card

While the post focuses on Navi 12, there is also another ID reference to Navi 14. It's not clear whether both GPUs are lower core count options than the existing RX 5700 series, but there has been suggestion online that Navi 12 could actually be a higher core count GPU, potentially coming to market as a ‘RX 5800 XT' or ‘RX 5900 XT' as has been previously rumoured.

At the moment, however, we just don't know – but considering Nvidia is also rumoured to launch its GTX 1650 Ti next month, a cut-down Navi GPU does seem more likely.

KitGuru says: It's been a fascinating few months for graphics card launches, and things could be about to heat up even more next month.

AMD's Navi launch went down very well in early June, with the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT garnering high praise. While the reference blower-style cooler is serviceable, it usually doesn't take long for better custom-cooled versions to hit the market. Today, the first custom RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT GPUs will be landing on store shelves.

The wave of custom RX 5700s kicks off with the Sapphire Pulse, trading in the blower fan for a much better dual-fan cooler. We've already reviewed the Sapphire RX 5700 Pulse ourselves, praising it for its cooling, clock speed increase and quiet operation. You can find our full video and written review of the card, HERE.

Currently, the Sapphire Pulse RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT are available through Overclockers UK for £364.99 or £424.99 respectively with stock already prepped to ship out. Of course, the Sapphire Pulse is just the beginning, with more custom AIB partner cards set to roll out in the coming weeks.

So far, we know that ASUS will have a Dual EVO, a TUF Gaming and ROG Strix cooled versions. Meanwhile, Power Colour will be releasing a Red Devil version of the RX 5700 XT within the next week. XFX has the THICC 2 version planned for launch soon and we will likely see variants from MSI and Gigabyte in the not too distant future too. If you've been waiting for custom-cooled RX 5700s, then August will be the month to start shopping around.

KitGuru Says: It is great to see custom-cooled versions of the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT finally hit the market. Are any of you currently thinking about upgrading to one of these?

It looks like custom editions of AMD’s RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT GPUs are due to drop any day now. So far, we’ve had pre-orders and retail listings open up for custom-cooled versions from Sapphire and ASUS ROG. Leaks have also shown off what XFX has planned and Power Colour has confirmed launch plans for a Red Devil version of the RX 5700 XT.

Over at Overclockers UK, you can currently pre-order the Sapphire Pulse version of the RX 5700 or RX 5700 XT for £368.99 or £428.99 respectively. Currently, there are also listings for three custom ASUS RX 5700 XT graphics cards, they can't be pre-ordered yet, but the Dual EVO will be £428.99, the TUF Gaming X3 will be £458.99 and the ROG STRIX version will be £529.99.

As for other board partners, we currently don’t have news on custom cards from MSI or Gigabyte, but we do know that XFX is launching an RX 5700 with an updated version of the Double Dissipation dual-fan cooler.

As leaked by Videocardz, this new XFX GPU will be known as ‘THICC 2’, although we don’t have word on a price or release date yet. Finally, Power Colour is also planning to launch a Red Devil version of the RX 5700 XT, initially, this was due to release on the 13th of August but a small delay has occurred in the supply chain, so the Power Colour Red Devil version will now begin shipping on the 15th of August, although that date might be limited to just a few countries/retailers.

Currently, we are expecting the Sapphire and ASUS GPUs to release before the end of this month too.

KitGuru Says: The RX 5700 series has been off to a good start with reference boards but quite a few will have been waiting for custom-cooled versions. Are any of you planning on picking up an RX 5700 this year once AIB cards start to ship?

The post More powerful AMD Navi GPUs said to be ‘on track’ first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
It has almost been one month since the launch of AMD's first Navi GPUs but it looks like there is more to come in the future. During an investor Q&A, AMD CEO, Lisa Su, seems to have confirmed that ‘high-end' Navi GPUs will be coming down the line.

The RX 5700 series is already quite competitive against the RTX 2070 and RTX 2060 graphics cards from NVIDIA. When asked about 7nm high-end NAVI and mobile 7nm CPUs, Lisa Su said to “expect that our execution on those are on track and we have a rich 7nm portfolio beyond the products that we have already announced”. With that in mind, it looks like the Radeon team is indeed working on a more powerful version of Navi.

As always though, timing will be hugely important, particularly if AMD is targeting RTX 2080 or RTX 2080Ti performance. Nvidia's two high-end Turing GPUs have almost been on the market for a full year, so Nvidia will also have next-gen chips in the works at this point.

So for now, we will just have to wait and see, but it seems that an RX 5800 series or RX 5900 series of GPUs is likely.

KitGuru Says: Are many of you currently shopping around for a GPU upgrade? Will you be jumping on Navi, or will you be waiting for more powerful cards to come?

AMD's RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT graphics cards are now officially out in the wild. We have reviewed both and were impressed by what was on offer with AMD's reference design but custom versions from board partners are on the way, although they will take a while to land at retail.

So far, all of the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT models available are using the reference blower-fan cooler, which does an okay job but many will be waiting for beefier cooling solutions to arrive. According to our sources, we will start to see the first custom GPUs in August, alongside a new driver with improved overclocking tools.

Beyond that, ASUS has confirmed itself that while its Navi GPUs on the market right now are bound to AMD's reference cooler, the company is already tweaking and gearing up to release new Radeon GPUs with custom cooler designs. We should get more details on those in September.

When it came to RX Vega 56 and RX Vega 64, there was a limited number of custom versions made available and it took a long time to bring these to market. There will be a pretty big gap between RX 5700 and the first custom cards too, but it sounds like there is going to be much more support for Navi compared to Vega.

KitGuru Says: We'll be keeping an eye out over the coming weeks for more information on custom RX 5700 GPUs. So far, it looks like we can expect to see the first ones arrive in August, with extra versions coming in September and beyond. The post AMD launches RX 5700 XT and RX 5700 GPUs with RDNA architecture first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Tonight during AMD’s Next Horizon event at E3, the company officially unveiled its first two graphics cards powered by the RDNA architecture. Previously teased at Computex last month, the RX 5700 and RX 5700XT are launching in July alongside 3rd Gen Ryzen processors.

Both the RX 5700 and the XT variant are built on the 7nm process. Navi is the GPU codename, while RDNA is the brand new architecture that will take over from GCN. With this new architecture, AMD can achieve higher performance per watt and deliver 25 percent more performance per Compute Unit at the same clock speeds. Scalability is another major factor with RDNA, providing enough room to scale all the way down for mobile and back up for gaming and data centres.

On the higher-end Radeon RX 5700 XT, you will be getting 40 Compute Units, 2560 Stream Processors, 8GB of GDDR6 memory a 1605MHz base clock and a 1905MHz boost clock all delivering 9.75 TFLOPS of performance. The XT has a TDP of 225W.

The RX 5700 on the other hand features 36 Compute Units, 2304 Stream Processors, 8GB of GDDR6 memory and a lower 1465MHz/1725MHz base/boost clock for 7.95 TFLOPS of performance. While the clock speeds and GPU have been cut down on the RX 5700, it also saves quite a bit of power, running with a 175W TDP.

The Radeon RX 5700 XT will be launching with a $449 MSRP, while the RX 5700 will be $379. We don’t have exact UK pricing numbers yet but we expect to hear more on that soon. We attended AMD’s media tech day this weekend, so we will be able to share more technical details on RDNA and the RX 5700 series soon.

KitGuru Says: These two graphics cards will be with us in just under one month’s time. July is shaping up to be huge for AMD, with an all new GPU architecture and Zen 2 CPUs all rolling out at once. Are any of you planning on upgrading?

The post Microsoft begins detailing Project Scarlett, the next-gen Xbox first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Earlier this year, Sony began sharing the first details for its next-gen console. Now, we have a better idea of what the competition is bringing to the table, as Microsoft began discussing Project Scarlett last night during E3. The next-gen Xbox will be arriving in late 2020, powered by AMD's Zen 2 CPU architecture and the Radeon RDNA architecture.

As previously rumoured, the codename for the next Xbox is Scarlett. Similarly to the PS5, it will make the jump to a Zen 2 CPU and new Radeon RDNA (previously ‘Navi') graphics with GDDR6 VRAM. Microsoft is also promising NVMe SSD storage, hardware accelerated ray-tracing and support for resolutions and frame rates we've “never seen before” on a console. That includes support for up to 120 frames per second and resolutions as high as 8K.

Interestingly, the SSD inside of Scarlett will also be capable of operating as virtual RAM, which will improve performance further. In all, this is supposed to be four times more powerful than an Xbox One X, which is a pretty major jump considering that the Xbox One X is still relatively new.

Everything we know so far is in broad strokes. Scarlett will be launching in Holiday 2020 with Halo Infinite as a launch title. With that in mind, we should hear a lot more at next year's E3, including a look at the actual box itself.

KitGuru Says: As expected, the PS5 and next-gen Xbox are going to be running similar hardware. 2020 won't just be a big year for hardware though, as Microsoft will also be pushing Project xCloud as another way to access games. So far, it is shaping up to be an interesting year.

The post Leo reacts to AMD Ryzen 3000 series launch and shares first impressions first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
Leo has his boots on the ground at Computex this week. We've already had a chance to talk a little bit about today's 3rd Gen Ryzen announcements but after a long busy day of presentations, Leo has had a chance to put his initial impressions and reactions to the news on camera for all to see.

As Leo notes, we had plenty of rumours surrounding Ryzen 9, Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5. Previously there was talk of a 16-core Ryzen 9 chip but that rumour has not come to fruition at this point in time. Instead, the top-end Ryzen 9 processor is the 12C/24T 3900X. There might be some wiggle room left to fit another chip in and Leo reckons we will see that 16-core Ryzen some day, whether it ends up being called Ryzen 9 or not.

Either way, though, what AMD has brought to the table so far looks to be a strong upgrade and another serious challenge to Intel. Beyond the CPUs themselves, the x570 chipset offers some serious upgrades, including support for higher DDR4 memory speeds, PCIe 4.0 and more.

Lots of great stuff on the Ryzen side, although the Navi part of the presentation was a tad dull. We will be getting more information on that front next month though, during AMD's E3 event. You can find specs and details for 3rd Gen Ryzen and the x570 chipset, HERE. You can find out more about what's next on the graphics side of AMD, HERE.

AMD has already had two major announcements for us today in the form of 3rd Gen Ryzen and the x570 chipset. However, Team Red isn't done just yet, as AMD has also announced the upcoming RX 5700-series of graphics cards, based on the new RDNA architecture to deliver up to 1.5x higher performance-per-watt over GCN.

AMD has been using the GCN architecture for years now, so RDNA is seen as the foundation of next-gen graphics from AMD. It will start off with the RX 5700-series, which will feature GDDR6 memory and a PCIe 4.0 interface, setting it up as a perfect pairing for new x570 motherboards and 3rd Gen Ryzen. In terms of performance per clock, we can expect up to a 1.25x improvement and up to a 1.5x improvement on performance per watt.

In a quick demonstration on what the RX 5700-series can do, AMD CEO, Dr. Lisa Su, presented one of the GPUs running a gameplay demo of Strange Brigade. During this demo, the unnamed RX-5700 series graphics card delivered higher performance than an RTX 2070. Of course, that is just one game, so we'll be looking forward to seeing a broader set of benchmarks in the future for a better comparison.

Right now, that is all of the information we have but AMD did reveal that the RX 5700-series will be properly revealed at its E3 event in June, with availability expected in July.

KitGuru Says: It has been a busy day for AMD with new CPUs, a new motherboard chipset and now, new GPUs to add on top of that. AMD's ‘Next Horizon' gaming event will kick off on the 10th of June, so we should have much more information to share then.

The post New leak points to Radeon Navi performance, pricing and launch first appeared on KitGuru.]]>
We already have confirmation that AMD’s first Radeon Navi graphics cards will be heading our way soon. As is often the case with any major tech launch, some of the information has made it out ahead of time, with a new leak confirming the first two Navi GPUs, alongside pricing and a launch date.

The leak comes from Chinese outlet, Zhihu, quoting a Sapphire representative. The post has since been removed but the details have already spread. According to the leak, we’ll be seeing two Navi GPUs announced next week, one with a full ‘XT’ chip at $499, and a cut down variant at the $399 mark. Performance for the XT graphics card is described as being ‘stronger than RTX 2070’. The cheaper version will then compete with the RTX 2060 for market share.

Navi won’t have specialised hardware on-board to accelerate raytracing, which means that Nvidia will continue to have an advantage on that front. However, rumour has it that AMD is working on another GPU architecture for 2020, which will have raytracing-specific hardware.

The full announcement from AMD will reportedly occur on the 27th of May during Computex. Retail availability will then follow on the 7th of July. It is worth noting that AMD has previously said that it will be showing off its next-gen gaming products at E3 this year, so there is a little bit of confusion surrounding exact dates at the moment.

KitGuru Says: We’ve been waiting on Navi for a long time now. If all of these details do prove to be true, it won’t be long until we can finally see it in action.

AMD has been making a habit of showing up at E3 for a few years now. Back in 2015, we saw Lisa Su arrive to launch the Radeon R9 Fury. One year later, AMD returned to the gaming-focused event to show off DOOM running on Ryzen, while also announcing the RX 470 and RX 460 graphics cards. AMD’s presence at E3 has quietened since then, but the company is hoping to make some noise again this year.

We’ve been following the rumours surrounding Ryzen and Navi for a while now. We’ve mainly been considering Computex as the launch platform for both, but it looks like some announcements will be coming a couple of weeks later at E3 instead. AMD has announced its ‘Next Horizon Gaming’ event at The Novo in Los Angeles.

The event will be live-streamed and hosted by Geoff Keighley on Monday the 10th of June. The press release promises a reveal for AMD’s ‘next-generation gaming products’, that will ‘shape the future of PC, console and cloud gaming for years to come’.

We already know that the PS5 will be running a Zen 2 Ryzen CPU and Navi graphics. The next-gen Xbox is also going to feature similar hardware. With that in mind, we already have a pretty good idea of what to expect from AMD in terms of hardware reveals.

Before E3, AMD’s Lisa Su will be delivering a Computex keynote on the 27th of May, which will also be live-streamed.

KitGuru Says: It looks like AMD is planning to go big over the next month, with announcements at Computex and E3. We’ll be covering both, so keep an eye out for more in the coming weeks.

While much of this year’s focus will be on Navi, it looks like AMD might be squeezing a bit more life out of Polaris this year in addition to ushering in new architecture. Recent reports suggest that we’ll be getting a Radeon RX 640 at the low-end of the line-up, which will sport the same chip found on the RX 550X.

According to a forum user on Techpowerup, AMD’s latest Adrenalin 19.4.3 GPU drivers contain an updated INF file with two instances of ‘Radeon RX 640’ popping up, using the same Device ID as the Radeon RX 550X. This suggests that low-end Polaris GPUs will be re-used to fill out the bottom segment of Radeon’s next-gen graphics card range.

So the RX 550X will turn into the RX 640 and then there is the possibility for the RX 560 to become the RX 650. From there, we would expect Navi GPUs to come in to play, keeping in mind that Navi is expected to be a replacement for Polaris (RX RX 590, RX 580, RX 570 etc) rather than Vega, which just got a new opportunity to shine thanks to the launch of Radeon VII.

The tricky part is that there are two differently spec’d versions of the RX 550X, one with 8 CUs, 512 SPs and 2GB of GDDR5, while the other has 10 CUs, 640 SPs and 4GB of GDDR5. We don’t know which version is planned to be used for the RX 640.

KitGuru Says: This isn’t the most exciting GPU news story but it does go to show that moves are being made and that it won’t be long before we can expect some announcements. AMD is going to have a big presence at Computex this year so hopefully that means Navi is just around the corner.
