Yoko Taro, the creator of the Drakengard and NieR series, has also developed a mobile game called SINoALICE. At first, this mobile game was scheduled for a worldwide release in July 2019, but the launch was postponed indefinitely. Now, Nexon has transferred the game service to Pokelabo, the original developer of SINoALICE, and scheduled its worldwide release for the 1st of July 2020.

SINoALICE is a turn-based RPG that released in Japan in 2017. According to Siliconera, the game's notoriety comes from its creative director, Yoko Taro, the creator of the successful NieR: Automata. In SINoALICE, you play with different interpretations of the characters from multiple known fairy tales as they explore “The Library”. The objective of each character is to revive the “Author” of its fairy tale. Some of the playable characters include Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Alice.

Alongside the release date announcement, there were also a couple of trailers launched (12). In these trailers, you can get an overview of the gameplay, mechanics and story of SINoALICE.

With the approaching release date, the SINoALICE developer Pokelabo is holding a global social media event. The event will be held on the game's Facebook page, Twitter account, and Instagram account. A part of this event comprises a 100 days Countdown Mission, which consist of two other missions: the first mission is to reach 30,000 social media interactions so players receive 100000 gold on the game's release. The second mission is to increase social interactions to 50,000, resulting in players receiving 150000 gold on release and unlocking Mission 3.

Additionally, Pokelabo announced that it will hold a 2-part collaboration event with both NieR: Automata (first) and NieR: Replicant (second). In these events, players will fight alongside the characters of each respective game, as seen in the trailer.

If you want to learn more or pre-register for SINoALICE, you can do it through the game's official website.

If you hanker for the long-gone days of dark and dingy arcades, with blinking and blooping machines with youngsters huddled round them, then New Retro Arcade: Neon is your VR dream come true. In its latest update too, the developers have added light gun support, meaning Time Crisis 2 and a host of other games are now available to play, just as they were back in the day.

Virtual reality is an exciting medium because it pushes the boundaries of what we know entertainment to be. It's ushered in all sorts of amazing new experiences for young and old alike, from the educational, to the awe inspiring, to the action packed. But it can also let us go back and relive life as it once was, like when we used to visit arcades. That's what New Retro is all about.

Compatible with Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and OSVR headsets, New Retro Arcade lets you visit the old world with up to five friends, letting you interact with it using fully tracked motion controllers – and now with light guns too. You will need to set the ROMs up yourself, or just tap up the community for the relevant files and folders, but that's the beauty of the VR arcade: it can be whatever you want it to be.

KitGuru Says: Sorry family, I have some retro arcade action to take part in. I appreciate we haven't seen each other for a while, but this is important. I never actually beat Time Crisis 2 in the arcade because it was too expensive.

Last year we took a look at the Ozone Neon mouse – finding it to be a solid offering for those not interested in fancy lighting or sensors with crazy DPI levels (like many of the latest mice all seem to be doing). Now, Ozone have released a successor – the Neon 3K. The ‘3K' in the name refers to its max DPI of 3500, in case you were wondering.

Unlike its predecessor, the Ozone Neon 3K can switch between 6 different lighting colours. Its maximum DPI is a fair bit lower, though – topping out at 3500, when the original Neon could go up to 6400. General design is also very similar – with eight re-programmable buttons and an ambidextrous shape to the mouse. We put it through its paces and see how it fares.

Distance, a game all about racing along at break-neck speed, gliding, twisting and flipping to the finish line with a thumping sound track and glowstick aesthetic – a bit like Tron's take on Trackmania – has been teasing us with its unfinished status for some time now. Fortunately, it's finally getting ready to hit the big time and enter Steam Early Access, so it won't be long until we get to go head to head with one another in the stylised world.

And of course this means a new trailer for us to enjoy also:

[yframe url='http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57AFXGzrhrs']

The developers describe Distance as a: “survival racing game that combines the intense action of arcade racing with the exploration of an atmospheric world. You control a unique car that allows you to boost, jump, rotate, and even fly through a chaotic and twisted city.”

distance

If all of this sounds and looks a little familiar, you might be thinking of the game's spiritual predecessor, Nitronic Rush, which was also developed by Refract Studios back in 2011. Distance is more than just an homage to past work though, it has a story too, something that players will discover as they race through thee broken world they find themselves in, going further and further into the… you guessed it, distance.

Distance will available to purchase on Steam Early Access on 9th December.

KitGuru Says: It's been a while since I played a solid arcade racer and this one looks like it could fit the bill nicely. I may give it a couple of weeks to settle down though, iron out a few of the bugs that will no doubt appear when the rabid hordes descend on it.

Unity Technologies this week said it will add native support for Intel Corp.’s x86 microprocessors and system on chips to its Unity game engine for the Android operating system, which is used by loads of video games. The move will improve performance of games on devices based on Intel’s x86 chips since previously the games had to use an emulation layer.

While Unity game engine supports multiple hardware and software platforms, when it comes to Unity game engine for Android, it has been developed with only ARM-based hardware in mind. As a result, in order to enable support for Intel’s x86 microprocessors Unity had to add a special translation layer. Even though the latter seems to be quite efficient, it still decreases performance, which negatively affects user experience. From now on, new or updated games based on the new versions of Unity engine will natively support Intel’s x86 chips and will not require any emulation software

Unity plans to add support for Android across all of Intel's current and future chips, including both the Intel Core and Intel Atom processor families based on various micro-architectures. Unity promises to ensure that Intel product enhancements, including both graphics and processor performance improvements and features (e.g., new instructions or special-purpose hardware), will be integrated into future releases of the Unity 4 and Unity 5 product lines. In particular, Unity paths that currently use ARM’s NEON optimized functions will be optimized for Intel's SSE instructions to achieve equivalent or superior performance. Unity's new Android build will also contain support for Intel's implementation of OpenGL ES so that to allow developers to access unique capabilities of Intel’s graphics cores.

In short, developers using Unity can now add support for Intel’s x86 in their applications or produce native applications for Intel’s architecture only with minimal extra effort.

“We have set a goal to ship 40 million Intel-based tablets this year and expect more than 100 Android tablet designs on Intel in the market by the end of this year,” said Doug Fisher, corporate vice president and general manager of the software and services group at Intel. “Our collaboration with Unity will give its nearly 3 million developers the necessary software tools and support to build amazing Android experiences on Intel architecture.”

KitGuru Says: While native support for Intel’s chips by Unity for Android will clearly improve future applications, it will not have an immediate effect on existing apps and existing hardware. Nonetheless, the importance of such support is hard to overestimate.
