Late last year, following the release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games announced that the title would be getting a rather significant update in 2024 – bringing with it a NewGame+ mode, additional accessibility options and more. Set to arrive on the 7th of March, we now have a complete breakdown of what to expect.

Detailing the upcoming update via the PlayStation Blog, James Stevenson – the Community Director at Insomniac Games – said:

“Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 version 1.002 will bring New Game+ to the game. We know many of you have been eager to replay the game on a harder difficulty, with all your suits and abilities carrying over. Or perhaps you want to just replay a favourite mission or two – you can do that, too! And there’s more to unlock – with Ultimate Levels, Golden Gadget styles, and more!”

Equally as exciting, the update will include extra customisation options for Peter’s black suit – including different symbiote ability colours.

Speaking of suits, the update also adds a couple extra based on Marvel’s Hellfire Gala series. Interestingly, two more outfits are being added, but in collaboration with the charity ‘Gameheads'.

These flashy suits will be part of the Fly N’ Fresh pack, which will be available to buy until the 5th of April for $4.99, with 100% of the proceeds going to the charity (up to $1 million). The suits will also be given to all for free eventually, so don’t worry if you miss out.

Last but certainly not least, the update brings with it a ton of added accessibility options, including Audio Descriptions; a screen reader; cinematic captions; high contrast outlines and more. The full list of changes and additions can be found HERE.

Late last year, following the release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games announced that the title would be getting a rather significant update in 2024 – bringing with it a NewGame+ mode, additional accessibility options and more. Though details on the update remain light, we now know that the NG+ patch will be arriving in early March.

Making the announcement via Twitter, the team at Insomniac Games said “OUR NEXT UPDATE IS COMING MARCH 7. Our title update for Marvel's #SpiderMan2PS5 arrives next month and adds highly requested features like New Game+, new suits, and more! Watch our social media for a complete list of features closer to release.”

As mentioned, we will have to wait a bit for a full breakdown of the upcoming update, but it is exciting nonetheless to see that more suits are set to be added in less than a month’s time. What these suits will be is currently unknown, but it is quite likely that obtaining the suits will be tied to completing the main campaign on NG+.

We will have to wait and see, but being able to re-experience the story of Spider-Man 2 with all the powers and upgrades should be fun enough in its own right.

Back in September – ahead of the game’s launch – Insomniac Games shared a bunch of details surrounding the many accessibility options available within Spider-Man 2. At the time, the team revealed that not all features would be available at launch. Now, we know when these are arriving – and what else they will bring besides the new accessibility options.

Releasing a statement to Twitter, the team at Insomniac Games said “Hey Web-Heads,

We have some news about the next game update for Marvel's Spider-Man 2. We know players have been eagerly awaiting features such as New Game+ and Audio Descriptions, among many more. We have been working vigilantly on these features and require more testing to ensure the quality is up to our standards.”

Prior to launch, the team stated that these features would be arriving some time in the month of December. Unfortunately for some, this has been pushed back slightly, with the team continuing:

“We are now targeting Early 2024 for the next game update, and we'll have a feature-complete list closer to its release. We've heard your feedback and will be adding some highly requested features, including the ability to change the time of day, swap tendril colors, and replay missions — just to name a few!”

While it is a shame to see that the patch won’t arrive in time for Christmas, the update seems to be including much more than was initially promised – so hopefully it’ll be worth the extra wait.

One of the best ways to entice players to re-experience your titles is to add a New Game Plus mode, allowing them to play through the story while keeping all the character progress from the initial playthrough. As with 2018’s God of War, Sony Santa Monica has confirmed that Ragnarok will get a New Game Plus mode early next year.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Sony Santa Monica account said “We know many of you have been asking, so we’re happy to confirm that New Game Plus will be coming to #GodofWarRagnarok in Spring 2023! We’ll share more details once we get closer to the release!”

To many, adding New Game Plus seems like a rather trivial affair, but studios have in the past discussed the many considerations needed to be made when designing a New Game Plus mode, with Cyberpunk 2077’s Lead Level Designer, Miles Tost, previously explaining why CP2077 does not feature a New Game Plus option, saying:

“NG+ for CP2077 is an incredibly complex feature to make. It's rebalancing the entire game (enemies, equipment, items) and tons of testing/tweaking; there's many skill checks in gameplay and dialogues, what happens here? How'd we handle/balance attribute + perk points?”

Considering all this, it is exciting to see Sony Santa Monica committed to bringing NG+ to God of War Ragnarök – even if we do have to wait a few more months.

CD Projekt RED have announced and released Cyberpunk 2077 patch 1.6 (the Edgerunners update) which brings with it hundreds of changes, improvements, and additions, including a transmog system; new weapons; cross progression; customisation outside of the initial character creation and so much more. Unfortunately, one of the most requested features – a New Game+ mode – did not make it into the update as according to the devs, it is an “incredibly complex feature to make.”

Cyberpunk 2077 patch 1.6 is live right now, bringing with it some of the most requested fan features including a new wardrobe system, mid-game character customisation and much more. Taking to Twitter to explain why the update does not include a New Game+ mode however, CDPR’s Lead Level Designer, Miles Tost, claimed:

“NG+ for CP2077 is an incredibly complex feature to make. It's rebalancing the entire game (enemies, equipment, items) and tons of testing/tweaking; there's many skill checks in gameplay and dialogues, what happens here? How'd we handle/balance attribute + perk points?”

Going into greater depth regarding these challenges, Tost continued, “Does cyberware in early game break anything new – Can the player get to places with doublejump they shouldn't? What happens when you get your first Grip at Vik's but have gorilla fists? Part where you see the surgery with your hand may potentially need to be reworked entirely. Do you keep your vehicles? How do we handle all those scenarios? Just to name a few questions we'd need to answer.”

That’s not to say that Cyberpunk 2077 will never get a New Game+ mode, but it is seemingly not a priority for CDPR, with Tost stating “We're listening and investigating. No promises however. Some answers may even be simple, but for us we'd need to sweep the entire game to make sure a feature that touches on pretty much all aspects of it is done right.”

One of Cyberpunk’s strongest aspects was its story, which is why a New Game+ mode has been so heavily requested. Unfortunately, for now, if you wish to replay Cyberpunk’s story you'll simply have to start a fresh save. Hopefully this does change in the future.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon, otherwise known as Yakuza 7, has been out in Japan for a while now, with a worldwide release scheduled for later this year. Since the game is already out in Japan, DLC has also been rolling out, although the latest could cause some controversy, with the latest paid expansion including New Game+ and access to a higher difficulty.

Yakuza 7 already has some scepticism surrounding it, in part due to a big shift in the combat system. The game has moved away from action-based real-time combat to a turn-based system. Now, the Japanese Twitter account for the game has also confirmed New Game+ will be a paid option, as will a higher difficulty mode:

The Google translation into English isn't perfect but it does describe New Game+ and a high difficulty mode as part of a paid expansion pack. Of course, since the game isn't out in the rest of the world yet, it isn't necessarily true that the same paid DLC will make its way over seas, but it seems to be another idea Sega is using as part of new experimentation with the Yakuza series.

Yakuza 7 wouldn't be the first game to release a paid challenge pack of sorts. Nintendo itself has done this with titles like Breath of the Wild.

KitGuru Says: The Yakuza series has traditionally had a legendary difficulty and New Game+ option as part of the main game, so turning it into paid DLC is going to cause some controversy. How do you all feel about this idea?
